Hosea
Marriage as metaphor for Israel's covenant infidelity
Oracles of the eighth-century northern prophet Hosea, framed around his marriage to the unfaithful Gomer. The marriage is treated throughout as a living parable of Israel's relationship with its God.

當烏西雅、約坦、亞哈斯、希西家、作猶大王、約阿施的兒子耶羅波安作以色列王的時候、耶和華的話臨到備利的兒子何西阿。
Yahweh’s word that came to Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

耶和華初次與何西阿說話、對他說、你去娶淫婦爲妻、也收那從淫亂所生的兒女、因爲這地大行淫亂、離棄耶和華。
When Yahweh spoke at first by Hosea, Yahweh said to Hosea, “Go, take for yourself a wife of prostitution and children of unfaithfulness; for the land commits great adultery, forsaking Yahweh.”

於是何西阿去娶了滴拉音的女兒歌篾．這婦人懷孕、給他生了一個兒子。
So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; and she conceived, and bore him a son.
4
耶和華對何西阿說、給他起名叫耶斯列、因爲再過片時、我必討耶戶家在耶斯列殺人流血的罪、也必使以色列家的國滅絕。
Yahweh said to him, “Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel on the house of Jehu, and will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease.

到那日、我必在耶斯列平原折斷以色列的弓。
It will happen in that day that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.”
6
歌篾又懷孕生了一個女兒、耶和華對何西阿說、給他起名叫羅路哈瑪、〈就是不蒙憐憫的意思〉因爲我必不再憐憫以色列家、決不赦免他們．
She conceived again, and bore a daughter.
Then he said to him, “Call her name Lo-Ruhamah; for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel, that I should in any way pardon them.
7
我卻要憐憫猶大家、使他們靠耶和華他們的 神得救、不使他們靠弓、刀、爭戰、馬匹、與馬兵得救。
But I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and will save them by Yahweh their God, and will not save them by bow, sword, battle, horses, or horsemen.”
8
歌篾給羅路哈瑪斷奶以後、又懷孕生了一個兒子。
Now when she had weaned Lo-Ruhamah, she conceived, and bore a son.
9
耶和華說、給他起名叫羅阿米、〈就是非我民的意思〉因爲你們不作我的子民、我也不作你們的 神。
He said, “Call his name Lo-Ammi; for you are not my people, and I will not be yours.
10
然而以色列的人數必如海沙、不可量、不可數．從前在甚麼地方對他們說、你們不是我的子民、將來在那裏必對他們說、你們是永生 神的兒子。
Yet the number of the children of Israel will be as the sand of the sea, which can’t be measured or counted; and it will come to pass that, in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’

猶大人和以色列人必一同聚集、爲自己立一個首領、從這地上去、〈或作從被擄之地上來〉因爲耶斯列的日子必爲大日。
The children of Judah and the children of Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint themselves one head, and will go up from the land; for great will be the day of Jezreel.

你們要稱你們的弟兄爲阿米、〈就是我民的意思〉稱你們的姐妹爲路哈瑪。〈就是蒙憐憫的意思〉
“Say to your brothers, ‘My people!’
and to your sisters, ‘My loved one!’
2
你們要與你們的母親大大爭辯、因爲他不是我的妻子、我也不是他的丈夫．叫他除掉臉上的淫像、和胸間的淫態．
Contend with your mother!
Contend, for she is not my wife,
neither am I her husband;
and let her put away her prostitution from her face,
and her adulteries from between her breasts;
3
免得我剝他的衣服、使他赤體與纔生的時候一樣、使他如曠野、如乾旱之地、因渴而死。
Lest I strip her naked,
and make her bare as in the day that she was born,
and make her like a wilderness,
and set her like a dry land,
and kill her with thirst.
4
我必不憐憫他的兒女、因爲他們是從淫亂而生的。
Indeed, on her children I will have no mercy;
for they are children of unfaithfulness;
5
他們的母親行了淫亂、懷他們的母作了可羞恥的事、因爲他說、我要隨從所愛的．我的餅、水、羊毛、麻、油、酒都是他們給的。
For their mother has played the prostitute.
She who conceived them has done shamefully;
for she said, ‘I will go after my lovers,
who give me my bread and my water,
my wool and my flax,
my oil and my drink.’

因此、我必用荊棘堵塞他的道、築牆擋住他、使他找不着路。
Therefore behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns,
and I will build a wall against her,
that she can’t find her way.
7
他必追隨所愛的、卻追不上、他必尋找他們、卻尋不見、便說、我要歸回前夫、因我那時的光景比如今還好。
She will follow after her lovers,
but she won’t overtake them;
and she will seek them,
but won’t find them.
Then she will say, ‘I will go and return to my first husband;
for then was it better with me than now.’

他不知道是我給他五穀新酒、和油、又加增他的金銀、他卻以此供奉〈或作製造〉巴力。
For she did not know that I gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil,
and multiplied to her silver and gold, which they used for Baal.
9
因此到了收割的日子、出酒的時候、我必將我的五穀新酒收回、也必將他應當遮體的羊毛和麻、奪回來。
Therefore I will take back my grain in its time,
and my new wine in its season,
and will pluck away my wool and my flax which should have covered her nakedness.
10
如今我必在他所愛的眼前、顯露他的醜態、必無人能救他脫離我的手。
Now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers,
and no one will deliver her out of my hand.
11
我也必使他的宴樂、節期、月朔、安息日、並他的一切大會、都止息了。
I will also cause all her celebrations to cease:
her feasts, her new moons, her Sabbaths, and all her solemn assemblies.
12
我也必毀壞他的葡萄樹和無花果樹、就是他說、這是我所愛的給我爲賞賜的、我必使這些樹變爲荒林、爲田野的走獸所喫。
I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees,
about which she has said, ‘These are my wages that my lovers have given me;
and I will make them a forest,’
and the animals of the field shall eat them.

我必追討他素日給諸巴力燒香的罪、那時他佩帶耳環、和別樣妝飾、隨從他所愛的、卻忘記我．這是耶和華說的。
I will visit on her the days of the Baals,
to which she burned incense,
when she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels,
and went after her lovers,
and forgot me,” says Yahweh.

後來我必勸導他、領他到曠野、對他說安慰的話．
“Therefore behold, I will allure her,
and bring her into the wilderness,
and speak tenderly to her.
15
他從那裏出來、我必賜他葡萄園、又賜他亞割谷作爲指望的門、他必在那裏應聲、〈或作歌唱〉、與幼年的日子一樣、與從埃及地上來的時候相同。
I will give her vineyards from there,
and the valley of Achor for a door of hope;
and she will respond there,
as in the days of her youth,
and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

耶和華說、那日你必稱呼我伊施、〈就是我夫的意思〉不再稱呼我巴力、〈就是我主的意思〉
It will be in that day,” says Yahweh,
“that you will call me ‘my husband,’
and no longer call me ‘my master.’
17
因爲我必從我民的口中除掉諸巴力的名號、這名號不再題起。
For I will take away the names of the Baals out of her mouth,
and they will no longer be mentioned by name.
18
當那日我必爲我的民、與田野的走獸、和空中的飛鳥、並地上的昆蟲立約．又必在國中折斷弓刀、止息爭戰、使他們安然躺臥。
In that day I will make a covenant for them with the animals of the field,
and with the birds of the sky,
and with the creeping things of the ground.
I will break the bow, the sword, and the battle out of the land,
and will make them lie down safely.
19
我必聘你永遠歸我爲妻、以仁義、公平、慈愛、憐憫聘你歸我．
I will betroth you to me forever.
Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness, in justice, in loving kindness, and in compassion.
20
也以誠實聘你歸我、你就必認識我耶和華。
I will even betroth you to me in faithfulness;
and you shall know Yahweh.
21
耶和華說、那日我必應允、我必應允天、天必應允地、
It will happen in that day, I will respond,” says Yahweh,
“I will respond to the heavens,
and they will respond to the earth;
22
地必應允五穀、新酒、和油、這些必應允耶斯列民、〈耶斯列就是 神栽種的意思〉
and the earth will respond to the grain, and the new wine, and the oil;
and they will respond to Jezreel.
23
我必將他種在這地、素不蒙憐憫的、我必憐憫、本非我民的、我必對他說、你是我的民、他必說、你是我的 神。
I will sow her to me in the earth;
and I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy;
and I will tell those who were not my people, ‘You are my people;’
and they will say, ‘My God!’”

耶和華對我說、你再去愛一個淫婦、就是他情人所愛的、好像以色列人、雖然偏向別神、喜愛葡萄餅、耶和華還是愛他們。
Yahweh said to me, “Go again, love a woman loved by another, and an adulteress, even as Yahweh loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods, and love cakes of raisins.”
2
我便用銀子十五舍客勒、大麥一賀梅珥半、買他歸我。
So I bought her for myself for fifteen pieces of silver and a homer
and a half of barley.
3
我對他說、你當多日爲我獨居、不可行淫、不可歸別人爲妻、我向你也必這樣。
I said to her, “You shall stay with me many days. You shall not play the prostitute, and you shall not be with any other man. I will also be so toward you.”
4
以色列人也必多日獨居、無君王、無首領、無祭祀、無柱像、無以弗得、無家中的神像。
For the children of Israel shall live many days without king, and without prince, and without sacrifice, and without sacred stone, and without ephod or idols.
5
後來以色列人必歸回、〈或作回心轉意〉尋求他們的 神耶和華、和他們的王大衞．在末後的日子、必以敬畏的心歸向耶和華、領受他的恩惠。
Afterward the children of Israel shall return, and seek Yahweh their God, and David their king, and shall come with trembling to Yahweh and to his blessings in the last days.
1
以色列人哪、你們當聽耶和華的話．耶和華與這地的居民爭辯、因這地上無誠實、無良善、無人認識 神。
Hear Yahweh’s word, you children of Israel;
for Yahweh has a charge against the inhabitants of the land:
“Indeed there is no truth,
nor goodness,
nor knowledge of God in the land.
2
但起假誓、不踐前言、殺害、偷盜、姦淫、行強暴、殺人流血接連不斷。
There is cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery;
they break boundaries, and bloodshed causes bloodshed.
3
因此、這地悲哀、其上的民、田野的獸、空中的鳥、必都衰微、海中的魚也必消滅。
Therefore the land will mourn,
and everyone who dwells therein will waste away.
all living things in her,
even the animals of the field and the birds of the sky;
yes, the fish of the sea also die.
4
然而人都不必爭辯、也不必指責、因爲這民與抗拒祭司的人一樣。
“Yet let no man bring a charge, neither let any man accuse; For your people are like those who bring charges against a priest.
5
你這祭司、必日間跌倒、先知也必夜間與你一同跌倒．我必滅絕你的母親。
You will stumble in the day,
and the prophet will also stumble with you in the night;
and I will destroy your mother.
6
我的民因無知識而滅亡．你棄掉知識、我也必棄掉你、使你不再給我作祭司．你旣忘了你 神的律法、我也必忘記你的兒女。
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you,
that you may be no priest to me.
Because you have forgotten your God’s law,
I will also forget your children.
7
祭司越發增多、就越發得罪我．我必使他們的榮耀變爲羞辱、
As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me.
I will change their glory into shame.
8
他們喫我民的贖罪祭、滿心願意我民犯罪。
They feed on the sin of my people,
and set their heart on their iniquity.
9
將來民如何、祭司也必如何、我必因他們所行的懲罰他們、照他們所作的報應他們。
It will be, like people, like priest;
and I will punish them for their ways,
and will repay them for their deeds.
10
他們喫、卻不得飽．行淫、而不得立後．因爲他們離棄耶和華、不遵他的命。
They will eat, and not have enough.
They will play the prostitute, and will not increase;
because they have abandoned giving to Yahweh.
11
姦淫和酒、並新酒、奪去人的心。
Prostitution, wine, and new wine take away understanding.
12
我的民求問木偶、以爲木杖能指示他們、因爲他們的淫心使他們失迷、他們就行淫離棄 神、不守約束。
My people consult with their wooden idol,
and answer to a stick of wood.
Indeed the spirit of prostitution has led them astray,
and they have been unfaithful to their God.
13
在各山頂、各高岡的橡樹、楊樹、栗樹之下、獻祭燒香、因爲樹影美好．所以你們的女兒淫亂、你們的新婦〈或作兒婦下同〉行淫。
They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains,
and burn incense on the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths,
because its shade is good.
Therefore your daughters play the prostitute,
and your brides commit adultery.
14
你們的女兒淫亂、你們的新婦行淫、我卻不懲罰他們、因爲你們自己離羣與娼妓同居、與妓女一同獻祭、這無知的民、必致傾倒。
I will not punish your daughters when they play the prostitute,
nor your brides when they commit adultery;
because the men consort with prostitutes,
and they sacrifice with the shrine prostitutes;
so the people without understanding will come to ruin.
15
以色列阿、你雖然行淫、猶大卻不可犯罪．不要往吉甲去、不要上到伯亞文、也不要指着永生的耶和華起誓。
“Though you, Israel, play the prostitute,
yet don’t let Judah offend;
and don’t come to Gilgal,
neither go up to Beth Aven,
nor swear, ‘As Yahweh lives.’
16
以色列倔強、猶如倔強的母牛．現在耶和華要放他們、如同放羊羔在寬闊之地。
For Israel has behaved extremely stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer.
Then how will Yahweh feed them like a lamb in a meadow.
17
以法蓮親近偶像、任憑他罷。
Ephraim is joined to idols.
Leave him alone!
18
他們所喝的已經發酸．他們時常行淫、他們的官長最愛羞恥的事。
Their drink has become sour.
They play the prostitute continually.
Her rulers dearly love their shameful way.
19
風把他們裹在翅膀裏．他們因所獻的祭必致蒙羞。
The wind has wrapped her up in its wings;
and they shall be disappointed because of their sacrifices.
1
衆祭司阿、要聽我的話。以色列家阿、要留心聽．王家阿、要側耳而聽．審判要臨到你們、因你們在米斯巴如網羅、在他泊山如鋪張的網。
“Listen to this, you priests!
Listen, house of Israel,
and give ear, house of the king!
For the judgment is against you;
for you have been a snare at Mizpah,
and a net spread on Tabor.
2
這些悖逆的人、肆行殺戮、罪孽極深．我卻斥責他們衆人。
The rebels are deep in slaughter;
but I discipline all of them.
3
以法蓮爲我所知．以色列不能向我隱藏．以法蓮哪、現在你行淫了、以色列被玷汚了。
I know Ephraim,
and Israel is not hidden from me;
for now, Ephraim, you have played the prostitute.
Israel is defiled.
4
他們所行的使他們不能歸向 神、因有淫心在他們裏面、他們也不認識耶和華。
Their deeds won’t allow them to turn to their God;
for the spirit of prostitution is within them,
and they don’t know Yahweh.
5
以色列的驕傲當面見證自己．故此、以色列和以法蓮必因自己的罪孽跌倒、猶大也必與他們一同跌倒。
The pride of Israel testifies to his face.
Therefore Israel and Ephraim will stumble in their iniquity.
Judah also will stumble with them.
6
他們必牽着牛羊去尋求耶和華、卻尋不見．他已經轉去離開他們。
They will go with their flocks and with their herds to seek Yahweh;
but they won’t find him.
He has withdrawn himself from them.
7
他們向耶和華行事詭詐、生了私子．到了月朔、他們與他們的地業必被吞滅。
They are unfaithful to Yahweh;
for they have borne illegitimate children.
Now the new moon will devour them with their fields.
8
你們當在基比亞吹角、在拉瑪吹號、在伯亞文吹出大聲、說、便雅憫哪、有仇敵在你後頭。
“Blow the cornet in Gibeah,
and the trumpet in Ramah!
Sound a battle cry at Beth Aven, behind you, Benjamin!
9
在責罰的日子、以法蓮必變爲荒塲．我在以色列支派中、指示將來必成的事。
Ephraim will become a desolation in the day of rebuke.
Among the tribes of Israel, I have made known that which will surely be.
10
猶大的首領如同挪移地界的人、我必將忿怒倒在他們身上、如水一般。
The princes of Judah are like those who remove a landmark.
I will pour out my wrath on them like water.
11
以法蓮因樂從人的命令、就受欺壓、被審判壓碎。
Ephraim is oppressed,
he is crushed in judgment;
Because he is intent in his pursuit of idols.
12
我使以法蓮如蟲蛀之物、使猶大家如朽爛之木。
Therefore I am to Ephraim like a moth,
and to the house of Judah like rottenness.
13
以法蓮見自己有病、猶大見自己有傷、他們就打發人往亞述去見耶雷布王、他卻不能醫治你們、不能治好你們的傷。
“When Ephraim saw his sickness,
and Judah his wound,
Then Ephraim went to Assyria,
and sent to king Jareb:
but he is not able to heal you,
neither will he cure you of your wound.
14
我必向以法蓮如獅子、向猶大家如少壯獅子、我必撕裂而去、我要奪去、無人搭救。
For I will be to Ephraim like a lion,
and like a young lion to the house of Judah.
I myself will tear in pieces and go away.
I will carry off, and there will be no one to deliver.
15
我要回到原處、等他們自覺有罪、〈或作承認己罪〉尋求我面、他們在急難的時候必切切尋求我。
I will go and return to my place,
until they acknowledge their offense,
and seek my face.
In their affliction they will seek me earnestly.”

來罷、我們歸向耶和華．他撕裂我們、也必醫治．他打傷我們、也必纏裹。
“Come, and let us return to Yahweh;
for he has torn us to pieces,
and he will heal us;
he has injured us,
and he will bind up our wounds.
2
過兩天他必使我們甦醒、第三天他必使我們興起、我們就在他面前得以存活。
After two days he will revive us.
On the third day he will raise us up,
and we will live before him.
3
我們務要認識耶和華、竭力追求認識他．他出現確如晨光、他必臨到我們像甘雨、像滋潤田地的春雨。
Let us acknowledge Yahweh.
Let us press on to know Yahweh.
As surely as the sun rises,
Yahweh will appear.
He will come to us like the rain,
like the spring rain that waters the earth.”

主說、以法蓮哪、我可向你怎樣行呢．猶大阿、我可向你怎樣作呢．因爲你們的良善如同早晨的雲霧、又如速散的甘露。
“Ephraim, what shall I do to you?
Judah, what shall I do to you?
For your love is like a morning cloud,
and like the dew that disappears early.

因此、我藉先知砍伐他們、以我口中的話殺戮他們、我施行的審判如光發出。
Therefore I have cut them to pieces with the prophets;
I killed them with the words of my mouth.
Your judgments are like a flash of lightning.
6
我喜愛良善、〈或作憐恤〉不喜愛祭祀、喜愛認識 神、勝於燔祭。
For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice;
and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
7
他們卻如亞當背約、在境內向我行事詭詐。
But they, like Adam, have broken the covenant.
They were unfaithful to me, there.
8
基列是作孽之人的城、被血沾染。
Gilead is a city of those who work iniquity;
it is stained with blood.
9
強盜成羣、怎樣埋伏殺人．祭司結黨、也照樣在示劍的路上殺戮、行了邪惡。
As gangs of robbers wait to ambush a man,
so the company of priests murder on the path toward Shechem,
committing shameful crimes.
10
在以色列家、我見了可憎的事、在以法蓮那裏有淫行、以色列被玷汚。
In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing.
There is prostitution in Ephraim.
Israel is defiled.
11
猶大阿、我使被擄之民歸回的時候、必有爲你所命定的收塲。
“Also, Judah, there is a harvest appointed for you,
when I restore the fortunes of my people.
1
我想醫治以色列的時候、以法蓮的罪孽、和撒瑪利亞的罪惡、就顯露出來．他們行事虛謊、內有賊人入室偷竊、外有強盜成羣騷擾。
When I would heal Israel,
then the iniquity of Ephraim is uncovered,
also the wickedness of Samaria;
for they commit falsehood,
and the thief enters in,
and the gang of robbers ravages outside.

他們心裏並不思想我記念他們的一切惡、他們所行的現在纏繞他們、都在我面前。
They don’t consider in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness.
Now their own deeds have engulfed them.
They are before my face.
3
他們行惡使君王歡喜、說謊使首領喜樂。
They make the king glad with their wickedness,
and the princes with their lies.
4
他們都是行淫的、像火爐被烤餅的燒熱、從摶麵到發麵的時候、暫不使火着旺。
They are all adulterers.
They are burning like an oven that the baker stops stirring,
from the kneading of the dough, until it is leavened.
5
在我們王宴樂的日子、首領因酒的烈性成病．王與褻慢人拉手。
On the day of our king, the princes made themselves sick with the heat of wine.
He joined his hand with mockers.
6
首領埋伏的時候、心中熱如火爐、就如烤餅的整夜睡臥、到了早晨火氣炎炎。
For they have prepared their heart like an oven,
while they lie in wait.
Their baker sleeps all the night.
In the morning it burns as a flaming fire.
7
衆民也熱如火爐、燒滅他們的官長．他們的君王都仆倒而死．他們中間無一人求告我。
They are all hot as an oven,
and devour their judges.
All their kings have fallen.
There is no one among them who calls to me.
8
以法蓮與列邦人攙雜．以法蓮是沒有翻過的餅。
Ephraim, he mixes himself among the nations.
Ephraim is a pancake not turned over.
9
外邦人吞喫他勞力得來的、他卻不知道、頭髮斑白、他也不覺得。
Strangers have devoured his strength,
and he doesn’t realize it.
Indeed, gray hairs are here and there on him,
and he doesn’t realize it.
10
以色列的驕傲當面見證自己、雖遭遇這一切、他們仍不歸向耶和華他們的 神、也不尋求他。
The pride of Israel testifies to his face;
yet they haven’t returned to Yahweh their God,
nor sought him, for all this.
11
以法蓮好像鴿子愚蠢無知、他們求告埃及、投奔亞述。
“Ephraim is like an easily deceived dove, without understanding.
They call to Egypt.
They go to Assyria.
12
他們去的時候、我必將我的網撒在他們身上、我要打下他們、如同空中的鳥、我必按他們會衆所聽見的、懲罰他們。
When they go, I will spread my net on them.
I will bring them down like the birds of the sky.
I will chastise them, as their congregation has heard.
13
他們因離棄我、必定有禍、因違背我、必被毀滅．我雖要救贖他們、他們卻向我說謊。
Woe to them!
For they have wandered from me.
Destruction to them!
For they have trespassed against me.
Though I would redeem them,
yet they have spoken lies against me.
14
他們並不誠心哀求我、乃在牀上呼號．他們爲求五穀新酒聚集、仍然悖逆我。
They haven’t cried to me with their heart,
but they howl on their beds.
They assemble themselves for grain and new wine.
They turn away from me.
15
我雖教導他們、堅固他們的膀臂、他們竟圖謀抗拒我。
Though I have taught and strengthened their arms,
yet they plot evil against me.
16
他們歸向、卻不歸向至上者．他們如同翻背的弓．他們的首領必因舌頭的狂傲倒在刀下．這在埃及地必作人的譏笑。
They return, but not to the Most High.
They are like a faulty bow.
Their princes will fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue.
This will be their derision in the land of Egypt.

你用口吹角罷．敵人如鷹來攻打耶和華的家、因爲這民違背我的約、干犯我的律法。
“Put the trumpet to your lips!
Something like an eagle is over Yahweh’s house,
because they have broken my covenant,
and rebelled against my law.
2
他們必呼叫我說、我的 神阿、我們以色列認識你了。
They cry to me, ‘My God, we Israel acknowledge you!’
3
以色列丟棄良善、〈或作福分〉仇敵必追逼他。
Israel has cast off that which is good.
The enemy will pursue him.
4
他們立君王、卻不由我、他們立首領、我卻不認．他們用金銀爲自己製造偶像、以致被剪除。
They have set up kings, but not by me.
They have made princes, and I didn’t approve.
Of their silver and their gold they have made themselves idols,
that they may be cut off.

撒瑪利亞阿、耶和華已經丟棄你的牛犢．我的怒氣向拜牛犢的人發作．他們到幾時方能無罪呢。
Let Samaria throw out his calf idol!
My anger burns against them!
How long will it be until they are capable of purity?
6
這牛犢出於以色列、是匠人所造的、並不是神．撒瑪利亞的牛犢、必被打碎。
For this is even from Israel!
The workman made it, and it is no God;
indeed, the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.
7
他們所種的是風、所收的是暴風、所種的不成禾稼、就是發苗也不結實、卽便結實、外邦人必吞喫。
For they sow the wind,
and they will reap the whirlwind.
He has no standing grain.
The stalk will yield no head.
If it does yield, strangers will swallow it up.
8
以色列被吞喫．現今在列國中、好像人不喜悅的器皿。
Israel is swallowed up.
Now they are among the nations like a worthless thing.
9
他們投奔亞述、如同獨行的野驢．以法蓮賄買朋黨。
For they have gone up to Assyria,
like a wild donkey wandering alone.
Ephraim has hired lovers for himself.
10
他們雖在列邦中賄買人、現在我卻要聚集懲罰他們．他們因君王和首領所加的重擔、日漸衰微。
But although they sold themselves among the nations,
I will now gather them;
and they begin to waste away because of the oppression of the king of mighty ones.
11
以法蓮增添祭壇取罪、因此、祭壇使他犯罪。
Because Ephraim has multiplied altars for sinning,
they became for him altars for sinning.
12
我爲他寫了律法萬條、他卻以爲與他毫無關涉。
I wrote for him the many things of my law;
but they were regarded as a strange thing.
13
至於獻給我的祭物、他們自食其肉、耶和華卻不悅納他們．現在必記念他們的罪孽、追討他們的罪惡、他們必歸回埃及。
As for the sacrifices of my offerings,
they sacrifice meat and eat it;
But Yahweh doesn’t accept them.
Now he will remember their iniquity,
and punish their sins.
They will return to Egypt.
14
以色列忘記造他的主、建造宮殿．猶大多造堅固城、我卻要降火焚燒他的城邑、燒滅其中的宮殿。
For Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces;
and Judah has multiplied fortified cities;
but I will send a fire on his cities,
and it will devour its fortresses.”

以色列阿、不要像外邦人歡喜快樂、因爲你行邪淫離棄你的 神、在各穀塲上如妓女喜愛賞賜。
Don’t rejoice, Israel, to jubilation like the nations;
for you were unfaithful to your God.
You love the wages of a prostitute at every grain threshing floor.
2
穀塲和酒醡、都不彀以色列人使用、新酒也必缺乏。
The threshing floor and the wine press won’t feed them,
and the new wine will fail her.
3
他們必不得住耶和華的地、以法蓮卻要歸回埃及、必在亞述喫不潔淨的食物。
They won’t dwell in Yahweh’s land;
but Ephraim will return to Egypt,
and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.
4
他們必不得向耶和華奠酒、卽便奠酒、也不蒙悅納．他們的祭物、必如居喪者的食物、凡喫的必被玷汚、因他們的食物、只爲自己的口腹、必不奉入耶和華的殿。
They won’t pour out wine offerings to Yahweh,
neither will they be pleasing to him.
Their sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners;
all who eat of it will be polluted;
for their bread will be for their appetite.
It will not come into Yahweh’s house.
5
在大會的日子、到耶和華的節期、你們怎樣行呢。
What will you do in the day of solemn assembly,
and in the day of the feast of Yahweh?
6
看哪、他們逃避災難、埃及人必收殮他們的屍首、摩弗人必葬埋他們的骸骨．他們用銀子作的美物上必長蒺藜．他們的帳棚中必生荊棘。
For, behold, they have gone away from destruction.
Egypt will gather them up.
Memphis will bury them.
Nettles will possess their pleasant things of silver.
Thorns will be in their tents.
7
以色列人必知道降罰的日子臨近、報應的時候來到．（民說、作先知的是愚昧、受靈感的是狂妄．）皆因他們多多作孽、大懷怨恨。
The days of visitation have come.
The days of reckoning have come.
Israel will consider the prophet to be a fool,
and the man who is inspired to be insane,
because of the abundance of your sins,
and because your hostility is great.

以法蓮曾作我 神守望的、至於先知、在他一切的道上作爲捕鳥人的網羅、在他 神的家中懷怨恨。
A prophet watches over Ephraim with my God.
A fowler’s snare is on all of his paths,
and hostility in the house of his God.
9
以法蓮深深的敗壞、如在基比亞的日子一樣．耶和華必記念他們的罪孽、追討他們的罪惡。
They have deeply corrupted themselves,
as in the days of Gibeah.
He will remember their iniquity.
He will punish them for their sins.
10
主說、我遇見以色列如葡萄在曠野、我看見你們的列祖如無花果樹上春季初熟的果子．他們卻來到巴力毘珥專拜那可羞恥的、就成爲可憎惡的、與他們所愛的一樣。
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness.
I saw your fathers as the first ripe in the fig tree at its first season;
but they came to Baal Peor, and consecrated themselves to the shameful thing,
and became abominable like that which they loved.
11
至於以法蓮人、他們的榮耀必如鳥飛去、必不生產、不懷胎、不成孕。
As for Ephraim, their glory will fly away like a bird.
There will be no birth, no one with child, and no conception.
12
縱然養大兒女、我卻必使他們喪子、甚至不留一個．我離棄他們、他們就有禍了。
Though they bring up their children,
yet I will bereave them, so that not a man shall be left.
Indeed, woe also to them when I depart from them!
13
我看以法蓮如推羅栽於美地．以法蓮卻要將自己的兒女帶出來、交與行殺戮的人。
I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre, planted in a pleasant place;
but Ephraim will bring out his children to the murderer.
14
耶和華阿、求你加給他們加甚麼呢、要使他們胎墜乳乾。
Give them—Yahweh what will you give?
Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
15
耶和華說、他們一切的惡事都在吉甲、我在那裏憎惡他們、因他們所行的惡、我必從我地上趕出他們去、不再憐愛他們．他們的首領都是悖逆的。
“All their wickedness is in Gilgal;
for there I hated them.
Because of the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of my house!
I will love them no more.
All their princes are rebels.
16
以法蓮受責罰、根本枯乾、必不能結果、卽或生產、我必殺他們所生的愛子。
Ephraim is struck.
Their root has dried up.
They will bear no fruit.
Even though they give birth, yet I will kill the beloved ones of their womb.”
17
我的 神必棄絕他們、因爲他們不聽從他．他們也必飄流在列國中。
My God will cast them away, because they did not listen to him;
and they will be wanderers among the nations.

以色列是茂盛的葡萄樹、結果繁多、果子越多、就越增添祭壇．地土越肥美、就越造美麗的柱像。
Israel is a luxuriant vine that produces his fruit.
According to the abundance of his fruit he has multiplied his altars.
As their land has prospered, they have adorned their sacred stones.
2
他們心懷二意、現今要定爲有罪．耶和華必拆毀他們的祭壇、毀壞他們的柱像。
Their heart is divided.
Now they will be found guilty.
He will demolish their altars.
He will destroy their sacred stones.
3
他們必說、我們沒有王、因爲我們不敬畏耶和華。王能爲我們作甚麼呢。
Surely now they will say, “We have no king; for we don’t fear Yahweh;
and the king, what can he do for us?”
4
他們爲立約說謊言、起假誓、因此、災罰如苦菜滋生在田間的犂溝中。
They make promises, swearing falsely in making covenants.
Therefore judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.
5
撒瑪利亞的居民必因伯亞文的牛犢驚恐、崇拜牛犢的民、和喜愛牛犢的祭司、都必因榮耀離開他、爲他悲哀。
The inhabitants of Samaria will be in terror for the calves of Beth Aven;
for its people will mourn over it,
Along with its priests who rejoiced over it,
for its glory, because it has departed from it.
6
人必將牛犢帶到亞述、當作禮物、獻給耶雷布王．以法蓮必蒙羞、以色列必因自己的計謀慚愧。
It also will be carried to Assyria for a present to a great king.
Ephraim will receive shame,
and Israel will be ashamed of his own counsel.
7
至於撒瑪利亞、他的王必滅沒、如水面的沫子一樣。
Samaria and her king float away,
like a twig on the water.
8
伯亞文的邱壇、就是以色列取罪的地方、必被毀滅、荊棘和蒺藜必長在他們的祭壇上、他們必對大山說、遮蓋我們。對小山說、倒在我們身上。
The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed.
The thorn and the thistle will come up on their altars.
They will tell the mountains, “Cover us!” and the hills, “Fall on us!”
9
以色列阿、你從基比亞的日子以來、時常犯罪．你們的先人曾站在那裏、現今住基比亞的人以爲攻擊罪孽之輩的戰事臨不到自己。
“Israel, you have sinned from the days of Gibeah.
There they remained.
The battle against the children of iniquity doesn’t overtake them in Gibeah.
10
我必隨意懲罰他們．他們爲兩樣的罪所纏、列邦的民必聚集攻擊他們。
When it is my desire, I will chastise them;
and the nations will be gathered against them,
when they are bound to their two transgressions.
11
以法蓮是馴良的母牛犢、喜愛踹穀、我卻將軛加在他肥美的頸項上、我要使以法蓮拉套、〈或作被騎〉猶大必耕田、雅各必耙地。
Ephraim is a trained heifer that loves to thresh;
so I will put a yoke on her beautiful neck.
I will set a rider on Ephraim.
Judah will plow.
Jacob will break his clods.
12
你們要爲自己栽種公義、就能收割慈愛、現今正是尋求耶和華的時候、你們要開墾荒地、等他臨到、使公義如雨降在你們身上。
Sow to yourselves in righteousness,
reap according to kindness.
Break up your fallow ground;
for it is time to seek Yahweh,
until he comes and rains righteousness on you.
13
你們耕種的是奸惡、收割的是罪孽、喫的是謊話的果子．因你倚靠自己的行爲、仰賴勇士衆多、
You have plowed wickedness.
You have reaped iniquity.
You have eaten the fruit of lies,
for you trusted in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.
14
所以在這民中必有鬨嚷之聲、你一切的保障必被拆毀、就如沙勒幔在爭戰的日子拆毀伯亞比勒、將其中的母子、一同摔死。
Therefore a battle roar will arise among your people,
and all your fortresses will be destroyed,
as Shalman destroyed Beth Arbel in the day of battle.
The mother was dashed in pieces with her children.
15
因他們的大惡、伯特利必使你們遭遇如此．到了黎明、以色列的王必全然滅絕。
So Bethel will do to you because of your great wickedness.
At daybreak the king of Israel will be destroyed.

以色列年幼的時候我愛他、就從埃及召出我的兒子來。
“When Israel was a child, then I loved him,
and called my son out of Egypt.
2
先知越發招呼他們、他們越發走開、向諸巴力獻祭、給雕刻的偶像燒香。
They called to them, so they went from them.
They sacrificed to the Baals,
and burned incense to engraved images.
3
我原教導以法蓮行走、用膀臂抱着他們、他們卻不知道是我醫治他們。
Yet I taught Ephraim to walk.
I took them by his arms;
but they didn’t know that I healed them.
4
我用慈繩〈慈原文作人的〉愛索牽引他們、我待他們如人放鬆牛的兩腮夾板、把糧食放在他們面前。
I drew them with cords of a man, with ties of love;
and I was to them like those who lift up the yoke on their necks;
and I bent down to him and I fed him.
5
他們必不歸回埃及地、亞述人卻要作他們的王、因他們不肯歸向我。
“They won’t return into the land of Egypt;
but the Assyrian will be their king,
because they refused to repent.
6
刀劍必臨到他們的城邑、毀壞門閂、把人吞滅、都因他們隨從自己的計謀。
The sword will fall on their cities,
and will destroy the bars of their gates,
and will put an end to their plans.
7
我的民偏要背道離開我、衆先知雖然招呼他們歸向至上的主、卻無人尊崇主。
My people are determined to turn from me.
Though they call to the Most High,
he certainly won’t exalt them.
8
以法蓮哪、我怎能捨棄你、以色列阿、我怎能棄絕你、我怎能使你如押瑪、怎能使你如洗扁、我回心轉意、我的憐愛大大發動。
“How can I give you up, Ephraim?
How can I hand you over, Israel?
How can I make you like Admah?
How can I make you like Zeboiim?
My heart is turned within me,
my compassion is aroused.
9
我必不發猛烈的怒氣、也不再毀滅以法蓮、因我是 神、並非世人、是你們中間的聖者、我必不在怒中臨到你們。
I will not execute the fierceness of my anger.
I will not return to destroy Ephraim:
for I am God, and not man; the Holy One among you;
and I will not come in wrath.
10
耶和華必如獅子吼叫、子民必跟隨他、他一吼叫、他們就從西方急速而來。
They will walk after Yahweh,
who will roar like a lion;
for he will roar, and the children will come trembling from the west.
11
他們必如雀鳥從埃及急速而來、又如鴿子從亞述地來到．我必使他們住自己的房屋、這是耶和華說的。
They will come trembling like a bird out of Egypt,
and like a dove out of the land of Assyria;
and I will settle them in their houses,” says Yahweh.
12
以法蓮用謊話、以色列家用詭計圍繞我、猶大卻靠 神掌權、向聖者有忠心。〈或作猶大向 神向誠實的聖者猶疑不定〉
Ephraim surrounds me with falsehood,
and the house of Israel with deceit.
Judah still strays from God,
and is unfaithful to the Holy One.

以法蓮喫風、且追趕東風．時常增添虛謊和強暴．與亞述立約、把油送到埃及。
Ephraim feeds on wind,
and chases the east wind.
He continually multiplies lies and desolation.
They make a covenant with Assyria,
and oil is carried into Egypt.
2
耶和華與猶大爭辯、必照雅各所行的懲罰他、按他所作的報應他。
Yahweh also has a controversy with Judah,
and will punish Jacob according to his ways;
according to his deeds he will repay him.
3
他在腹中抓住哥哥的腳跟、壯年的時候與 神較力、
In the womb he took his brother by the heel;
and in his manhood he contended with God.
4
與天使較力並且得勝、哭泣懇求、在伯特利遇見耶和華、耶和華萬軍之 神在那裏曉諭我們以色列人．耶和華是他可記念的名。
Indeed, he struggled with the angel, and prevailed;
he wept, and made supplication to him.
He found him at Bethel, and there he spoke with us,

與天使較力並且得勝、哭泣懇求、在伯特利遇見耶和華、耶和華萬軍之 神在那裏曉諭我們以色列人．耶和華是他可記念的名。
even Yahweh, the God of Armies;
Yahweh is his name of renown!
6
所以你當歸向你的 神、謹守仁愛、公平、常常等候你的 神。
Therefore turn to your God.
Keep kindness and justice,
and wait continually for your God.
7
以法蓮是商人、手裏有詭詐的天平、愛行欺騙。
A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand.
He loves to defraud.
8
以法蓮說、我果然成了富足、得了財寶．我所勞碌得來的、人必不見有甚麼不義、可算爲罪的。
Ephraim said, “Surely I have become rich,
I have found myself wealth.
In all my wealth they won’t find in me any iniquity that is sin.”
9
自從你出埃及地以來、我就是耶和華你的 神、我必使你再住帳棚、如在大會的日子一樣。
“But I am Yahweh your God from the land of Egypt.
I will yet again make you dwell in tents,
as in the days of the solemn feast.
10
我已曉諭衆先知、並且加增默示、藉先知設立比喻。
I have also spoken to the prophets,
and I have multiplied visions;
and by the ministry of the prophets I have used parables.
11
基列人沒有罪孽麼．他們全然是虛假的．人在吉甲獻牛犢爲祭、他們的祭壇、好像田間犂溝中的亂堆。
If Gilead is wicked,
surely they are worthless.
In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls.
Indeed, their altars are like heaps in the furrows of the field.
12
從前雅各逃到亞蘭地、以色列爲得妻服事人、爲得妻與人放羊。
Jacob fled into the country of Aram,
and Israel served to get a wife,
and for a wife he tended flocks and herds.
13
耶和華藉先知領以色列從埃及上來、以色列也藉先知而得保存。
By a prophet Yahweh brought Israel up out of Egypt,
and by a prophet he was preserved.
14
以法蓮大大惹動主怒、所以他流血的罪、必歸在他身上、主必將那因以法蓮所受的羞辱歸還他。
Ephraim has bitterly provoked anger.
Therefore his blood will be left on him,
and his Lord will repay his contempt.

從前以法蓮說話、人都戰兢、他在以色列中居處高位、但他在事奉巴力的事上犯罪就死了。
When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling.
He exalted himself in Israel,
but when he became guilty in Baal, he died.
2
現今他們罪上加罪、用銀子爲自己鑄造偶像、就是照自己的聰明製造、都是匠人的工作、有人論說、獻祭的人可以向牛犢親嘴。
Now they sin more and more,
and have made themselves molten images of their silver,
even idols according to their own understanding,
all of them the work of the craftsmen.
They say of them, ‘They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves.’

因此、他們必如早晨的雲霧、又如速散的甘露、像塲上的糠粃被狂風吹去、又像煙氣騰於窗外。
Therefore they will be like the morning mist,
and like the dew that passes away early,
like the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing floor,
and like the smoke out of the chimney.
4
自從你出埃及地以來、我就是耶和華你的 神、在我以外、你不可認識別神、除我以外並沒有救主。
“Yet I am Yahweh your God from the land of Egypt;
and you shall acknowledge no god but me,
and besides me there is no savior.
5
我曾在曠野乾旱之地認識你。
I knew you in the wilderness,
in the land of great drought.
6
這些民照我所賜的食物得了飽足．旣得飽足心就高傲、忘記了我。
According to their pasture, so were they filled;
they were filled, and their heart was exalted.
Therefore they have forgotten me.
7
因此、我向他們如獅子、又如豹伏在道旁。
Therefore I am like a lion to them.
Like a leopard, I will lurk by the path.
8
我遇見他們必像丟崽子的母熊、撕裂他們的胸膛、〈或作心膜〉在那裏我必像母獅吞喫他們．野獸必撕裂他們。
I will meet them like a bear that is bereaved of her cubs,
and will tear the covering of their heart.
There I will devour them like a lioness.
The wild animal will tear them.
9
以色列阿、你與我反對、就是反對幫助你的、自取敗壞。
You are destroyed, Israel, because you are against me,
against your help.
10
你曾求我說、給我立王和首領、現在你的王在哪裏呢、治理你的在哪裏呢、讓他在你所有的城中拯救你罷。
Where is your king now, that he may save you in all your cities?
And your judges, of whom you said, ‘Give me a king and princes?’
11
我在怒氣中將王賜你、又在烈怒中將王廢去。
I have given you a king in my anger,
and have taken him away in my wrath.
12
以法蓮的罪孽包裹、他的罪惡收藏。
The guilt of Ephraim is stored up.
His sin is stored up.
13
產婦的疼痛必臨到他身上．他是無智慧之子、到了產期不當遲延。
The sorrows of a travailing woman will come on him.
He is an unwise son;
for when it is time, he doesn’t come to the opening of the womb.
14
我必救贖他們脫離陰間、救贖他們脫離死亡．死亡阿、你的災害在哪裏呢．陰間哪、你的毀滅在哪裏呢．在我眼前絕無後悔之事。
I will ransom them from the power of Sheol.
I will redeem them from death!
Death, where are your plagues?
Sheol, where is your destruction?
“Compassion will be hidden from my eyes.
15
他在弟兄中雖然茂盛、必有東風颳來、就是耶和華的風從曠野上來、他的泉源必乾、他的源頭必竭、仇敵必擄掠他所積蓄的一切寶器。
Though he is fruitful among his brothers, an east wind will come,
the breath of Yahweh coming up from the wilderness;
and his spring will become dry,
and his fountain will be dried up.
He will plunder the storehouse of treasure.
16
撒瑪利亞必擔當自己的罪、因爲悖逆他的 神、他必倒在刀下、嬰孩必被摔死、孕婦必被剖開。
Samaria will bear her guilt;
for she has rebelled against her God.
They will fall by the sword.
Their infants will be dashed in pieces,
and their pregnant women will be ripped open.”

以色列阿、你要歸向耶和華你的 神．你是因自己的罪孽跌倒了。
Israel, return to Yahweh your God;
for you have fallen because of your sin.
2
當歸向耶和華、用言語禱告他說、求你除淨罪孽、悅納善行、這樣、我們就把嘴唇的祭、代替牛犢獻上。
Take words with you, and return to Yahweh.
Tell him, “Forgive all our sins,
and accept that which is good:
so we offer our lips like bulls.
3
我們不向亞述求救．不騎埃及的馬．也不再對我們手所造的說、你是我們的 神、因爲孤兒在你耶和華那裏得蒙憐憫。
Assyria can’t save us.
We won’t ride on horses;
neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, ‘Our gods!’
for in you the fatherless finds mercy.”
4
我必醫治他們背道的病、甘心愛他們、因爲我的怒氣向他們轉消。
“I will heal their waywardness.
I will love them freely;
for my anger is turned away from him.
5
我必向以色列如甘露、他必如百合花開放、如利巴嫩的樹木扎根。
I will be like the dew to Israel.
He will blossom like the lily,
and send down his roots like Lebanon.
6
他的枝條必延長、他的榮華如橄欖樹、他的香氣如利巴嫩的香柏樹。
His branches will spread,
and his beauty will be like the olive tree,
and his fragrance like Lebanon.
7
曾住在他蔭下的必歸回、發旺如五穀、開花如葡萄樹．他的香氣如利巴嫩的酒。
Men will dwell in his shade.
They will revive like the grain,
and blossom like the vine.
Their fragrance will be like the wine of Lebanon.
8
以法蓮必說、我與偶像還有甚麼關涉呢．我耶和華回答他、也必顧念他．我如青翠的松樹、你的果子從我而得。
Ephraim, what have I to do any more with idols?
I answer, and will take care of him.
I am like a green cypress tree;
from me your fruit is found.”
9
誰是智慧人、可以明白這些事、誰是通達人、可以知道這一切．因爲耶和華的道是正直的、義人必在其中行走、罪人卻在其上跌倒。
Who is wise, that he may understand these things?
Who is prudent, that he may know them?
For the ways of Yahweh are right,
and the righteous walk in them;
But the rebellious stumble in them.
