Joel
A locust plague and the outpouring of the spirit
A short prophetic book responding to a devastating locust plague. The plague becomes the figure for a coming day of the Lord, and the book closes with an oracle of the spirit being poured out on all flesh — later cited at Pentecost in the book of Acts.

耶和華的話臨到毘土珥的兒子約珥。
Yahweh’s word that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel.
2
老年人哪、當聽我的話．國中的居民哪、都要側耳而聽．在你們的日子、或你們列祖的日子、曾有這樣的事麼。
Hear this, you elders,
And listen, all you inhabitants of the land.
Has this ever happened in your days,
or in the days of your fathers?
3
你們要將這事傳與子、子傳與孫、孫傳與後代。
Tell your children about it,
and have your children tell their children,
and their children, another generation.
4
剪蟲剩下的、蝗蟲來喫．蝗蟲剩下的、蝻子來喫．蝻子剩下的、螞蚱來喫。
What the swarming locust has left, the great locust has eaten.
What the great locust has left, the grasshopper has eaten.
What the grasshopper has left, the caterpillar has eaten.

酒醉的人哪、要清醒哭泣．好酒的人哪、都要爲甜酒哀號．因爲從你們的口中斷絕了。
Wake up, you drunkards, and weep!
Wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine;
for it is cut off from your mouth.
6
有一隊蝗蟲〈原文作民〉又強盛、又無數、侵犯我的地．他的牙齒如獅子的牙齒、大牙如母獅的大牙。
For a nation has come up on my land, strong, and without number.
His teeth are the teeth of a lion,
and he has the fangs of a lioness.
7
他毀壞我的葡萄樹、剝了我無花果樹的皮、剝盡而丟棄、使枝條露白。
He has laid my vine waste,
and stripped my fig tree.
He has stripped its bark, and thrown it away.
Its branches are made white.
8
我的民哪、你當哀號、像處女腰束麻布、爲幼年的丈夫哀號。
Mourn like a virgin dressed in sackcloth for the husband of her youth!
9
素祭和奠祭從耶和華的殿中斷絕．事奉耶和華的祭司都悲哀。
The meal offering and the drink offering are cut off from Yahweh’s house.
The priests, Yahweh’s ministers, mourn.
10
田荒涼、地悲哀．因爲五穀毀壞、新酒乾竭、油也缺乏。
The field is laid waste.
The land mourns, for the grain is destroyed,
The new wine has dried up,
and the oil languishes.
11
農夫阿、你們要慚愧、修理葡萄園的阿、你們要哀號、因爲大麥小麥與田間的莊稼都滅絕了。
Be confounded, you farmers!
Wail, you vineyard keepers;
for the wheat and for the barley;
for the harvest of the field has perished.
12
葡萄樹枯乾、無花果樹衰殘。石榴樹、棕樹、㰋果樹、連田野一切的樹木也都枯乾．衆人的喜樂盡都消滅。
The vine has dried up, and the fig tree withered;
the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree,
even all of the trees of the field are withered;
for joy has withered away from the sons of men.

祭司阿、你們當腰束麻布痛哭．伺候祭壇的阿、你們要哀號．事奉我 神的阿、你們要來披上麻布過夜．因爲素祭、和奠祭、從你們 神的殿中斷絕了。
Put on sackcloth and mourn, you priests!
Wail, you ministers of the altar.
Come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God,
for the meal offering and the drink offering are withheld from your God’s house.
14
你們要分定禁食的日子、宣告嚴肅會、招聚長老、和國中的一切居民、到耶和華你們 神的殿、向耶和華哀求。
Sanctify a fast.
Call a solemn assembly.
Gather the elders,
and all the inhabitants of the land, to the house of Yahweh, your God,
and cry to Yahweh.

哀哉、耶和華的日子臨近了．這日來到、好像毀滅從全能者來到。
Alas for the day!
For the day of Yahweh is at hand,
and it will come as destruction from the Almighty.
16
糧食不是在我們眼前斷絕了麼．歡喜快樂不是從我們 神的殿中止息了麼。
Isn’t the food cut off before our eyes;
joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17
穀種在土塊下朽爛．倉也荒涼、廩也破壞．因爲五穀枯乾了。
The seeds rot under their clods.
The granaries are laid desolate.
The barns are broken down, for the grain has withered.
18
牲畜哀鳴、牛羣混亂、因爲無草．羊羣也受了困苦。
How the animals groan!
The herds of livestock are perplexed, because they have no pasture.
Yes, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
19
耶和華阿、我向你求告．因爲火燒滅曠野的草塲、火燄燒盡田野的樹木．
Yahweh, I cry to you,
For the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness,
and the flame has burned all the trees of the field.
20
田野的走獸向你發喘．因爲溪水乾涸、火也燒滅曠野的草塲。
Yes, the animals of the field pant to you,
for the water brooks have dried up,
And the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

你們要在錫安吹角、在我聖山吹出大聲．國中的居民、都要發顫．因爲耶和華的日子將到、已經臨近。
Blow the trumpet in Zion,
and sound an alarm in my holy mountain!
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble,
for the day of Yahweh comes,
for it is close at hand:

那日是黑暗、幽冥、密雲、烏黑的日子、好像晨光鋪滿山嶺．有一隊蝗蟲〈原文作民〉又大又強．從來沒有這樣的、以後直到萬代也必沒有。
A day of darkness and gloominess,
a day of clouds and thick darkness.
As the dawn spreading on the mountains,
a great and strong people;
there has never been the like,
neither will there be any more after them,
even to the years of many generations.

他們前面如火燒滅、後面如火燄燒盡．未到以前、地如伊甸園．過去以後、成了荒涼的曠野．沒有一樣能躱避他們的。
A fire devours before them,
and behind them, a flame burns.
The land is as the garden of Eden before them,
and behind them, a desolate wilderness.
Yes, and no one has escaped them.
4
他們的形狀如馬、奔跑如馬兵。
Their appearance is as the appearance of horses,
and as horsemen, so do they run.
5
在山頂蹦跳的響聲、如車輛的響聲、又如火燄燒碎稭的響聲、好像強盛的民擺陣豫備打仗。
Like the noise of chariots on the tops of the mountains do they leap,
like the noise of a flame of fire that devours the stubble,
as a strong people set in battle array.
6
他們一來、衆民傷慟、臉都變色。
At their presence the peoples are in anguish.
All faces have grown pale.
7
他們如勇士奔跑、像戰士爬城．各都步行、不亂隊伍．
They run like mighty men.
They climb the wall like warriors.
They each march in his line, and they don’t swerve off course.
8
彼此並不擁擠、向前各行其路．直闖兵器、不偏左右。
Neither does one jostle another;
they march everyone in his path,
and they burst through the defenses,
and don’t break ranks.
9
他們蹦上城、躥上牆、爬上房屋、進入窗戶如同盜賊。
They rush on the city.
They run on the wall.
They climb up into the houses.
They enter in at the windows like thieves.
10
他們一來、地震天動、日月昏暗、星宿無光。
The earth quakes before them.
The heavens tremble.
The sun and the moon are darkened,
and the stars withdraw their shining.
11
耶和華在他軍旅前發聲．他的隊伍甚大．成就他命的、是強盛者．因爲耶和華的日子大而可畏．誰能當得起呢。
Yahweh thunders his voice before his army;
for his forces are very great;
for he is strong who obeys his command;
for the day of Yahweh is great and very awesome,
and who can endure it?

耶和華說、雖然如此、你們應當禁食、哭泣、悲哀、一心歸向我。
“Yet even now,” says Yahweh, “turn to me with all your heart,
and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.”
13
你們要撕裂心腸、不撕裂衣服．歸向耶和華你們的 神．因爲他有恩典、有憐憫、不輕易發怒、有豐盛的慈愛、並且後悔不降所說的災。
Tear your heart, and not your garments,
and turn to Yahweh, your God;
for he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness,
and relents from sending calamity.
14
或者他轉意後悔、留下餘福、就是留下獻給耶和華你們 神的素祭、和奠祭、也未可知。
Who knows? He may turn and relent,
and leave a blessing behind him,
even a meal offering and a drink offering to Yahweh, your God.
15
你們要在錫安吹角、分定禁食的日子、宣告嚴肅會．
Blow the trumpet in Zion!
Sanctify a fast.
Call a solemn assembly.
16
聚集衆民、使會衆自潔、招聚老者、聚集孩童、和喫奶的．使新郎出離洞房、新婦出離內室。
Gather the people.
Sanctify the assembly.
Assemble the elders.
Gather the children, and those who nurse from breasts.
Let the bridegroom go out of his room,
and the bride out of her room.
17
事奉耶和華的祭司、要在廊子和祭壇中間哭泣、說、耶和華阿、求你顧惜你的百姓、不要使你的產業受羞辱、列邦管轄他們．爲何容列國的人說、他們的 神在哪裏呢。
Let the priests, the ministers of Yahweh, weep between the porch and the altar,
and let them say, “Spare your people, Yahweh,
and don’t give your heritage to reproach,
that the nations should rule over them.
Why should they say among the peoples,
‘Where is their God?’”

耶和華就爲自己的地發熱心、憐恤他的百姓．
Then Yahweh was jealous for his land,
And had pity on his people.
19
耶和華應允他的百姓、說、我必賜給你們五穀、新酒、和油、使你們飽足．我也不再使你們受列國的羞辱．
Yahweh answered his people,
“Behold, I will send you grain, new wine, and oil,
and you will be satisfied with them;
and I will no more make you a reproach among the nations.
20
卻要使北方來的軍隊遠離你們、將他們趕到乾旱荒廢之地、前隊趕入東海、後隊趕入西海．因爲他們所行的大惡、〈原文作事〉臭氣上升、腥味騰空。
But I will remove the northern army far away from you,
and will drive it into a barren and desolate land,
its front into the eastern sea,
and its back into the western sea;
and its stench will come up,
and its bad smell will rise.”
Surely he has done great things.
21
地土阿、不要懼怕、要歡喜快樂．因爲耶和華行了大事。
Land, don’t be afraid.
Be glad and rejoice, for Yahweh has done great things.
22
田野的走獸阿、不要懼怕．因爲曠野的草發生、樹木結果、無花果樹、葡萄樹也都効力。
Don’t be afraid, you animals of the field;
for the pastures of the wilderness spring up,
for the tree bears its fruit.
The fig tree and the vine yield their strength.
23
錫安的民哪、你們要快樂、爲耶和華你們的 神歡喜．因他賜給你們合宜的秋雨、爲你們降下甘霖、就是秋雨、春雨、和先前一樣。
“Be glad then, you children of Zion,
and rejoice in Yahweh, your God;
for he gives you the former rain in just measure,
and he causes the rain to come down for you,
the former rain and the latter rain,
as before.
24
禾塲必滿了麥子．酒醡與油醡必有新酒和油盈溢。
The threshing floors will be full of wheat,
and the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.
25
我打發到你們中間的大軍隊、就是蝗蟲、蝻子、螞蚱、剪蟲、那些年所喫的、我要補還你們。
I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten,
the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar,
my great army, which I sent among you.
26
你們必多喫而得飽足、就讚美爲你們行奇妙事之耶和華你們 神的名．我的百姓、必永遠不至羞愧。
You will have plenty to eat, and be satisfied,
and will praise the name of Yahweh, your God,
who has dealt wondrously with you;
and my people will never again be disappointed.
27
你們必知道我是在以色列中間、又知道我是耶和華你們的 神、在我以外並無別神、我的百姓必永遠不至羞愧。
You will know that I am among Israel,
and that I am Yahweh, your God, and there is no one else;
and my people will never again be disappointed.
28
以後、我要將我的靈澆灌凡有血氣的．你們的兒女要說豫言．你們的老年人要作異夢．少年人要見異象．
“It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;
and your sons and your daughters will prophesy.
Your old men will dream dreams.
Your young men will see visions.

在那些日子、我要將我的靈澆灌我的僕人和使女。
And also on the servants and on the handmaids in those days,
I will pour out my Spirit.
30
在天上地下、我要顯出奇事、有血、有火、有煙柱。
I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth:
blood, fire, and pillars of smoke.
31
日頭要變爲黑暗、月亮要變爲血、這都在耶和華大而可畏的日子未到以前。
The sun will be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood,
before the great and terrible day of Yahweh comes.
32
到那時候、凡求告耶和華名的就必得救．因爲照耶和華所說的、在錫安山耶路撒冷必有逃脫的人、在剩下的人中必有耶和華所召的。
It will happen that whoever will call on Yahweh’s name shall be saved;
for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape,
as Yahweh has said,
and among the remnant, those whom Yahweh calls.

到那日、我使猶大和耶路撒冷被擄之人歸回的時候、
“For, behold, in those days,
and in that time,
when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
2
我要聚集萬民、帶他們下到約沙法谷．在那裏施行審判、因爲他們將我的百姓、就是我的產業以色列、分散在列國中．又分取我的地土．
I will gather all nations,
and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat;
and I will execute judgment on them there for my people,
and for my heritage, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations.
They have divided my land,

且爲我的百姓拈鬮、將童子換妓女、賣童女買酒喝。
and have cast lots for my people,
and have given a boy for a prostitute,
and sold a girl for wine, that they may drink.
4
推羅西頓、和非利士四境的人哪、你們與我何干．你們要報復我麼．若報復我、我必使報應速速歸到你們的頭上。
“Yes, and what are you to me, Tyre, and Sidon,
and all the regions of Philistia?
Will you repay me?
And if you repay me,
I will swiftly and speedily return your repayment on your own head.

你們旣然奪取我的金銀、又將我可愛的寶物帶入你們宮殿、〈或作廟中〉
Because you have taken my silver and my gold,
and have carried my finest treasures into your temples,
6
並將猶大人、和耶路撒冷人、賣給希臘人〈原文作雅完人〉使他們遠離自己的境界．
and have sold the children of Judah and the children of Jerusalem to the sons of the Greeks,
that you may remove them far from their border.
7
我必激動他們離開你們所賣到之地、又必使報應歸到你們的頭上．
Behold, I will stir them up out of the place where you have sold them,
and will return your repayment on your own head;
8
我必將你們的兒女賣在猶大人的手中、他們必賣給遠方示巴國的人．這是耶和華說的。
and I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hands of the children of Judah,
and they will sell them to the men of Sheba,
to a faraway nation,
for Yahweh has spoken it.”
9
當在萬民中宣告說、要豫備打仗．激動勇士．使一切戰士上前來。
Proclaim this among the nations:
“Prepare for war!
Stir up the mighty men.
Let all the warriors draw near.
Let them come up.
10
要將犂頭打成刀劍、將鐮刀打成戈矛．輭弱的要說、我有勇力。
Beat your plowshares into swords,
and your pruning hooks into spears.
Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’
11
四圍的列國阿、你們要速速的來、一同聚集．耶和華阿、求你使你的大能者降臨。
Hurry and come, all you surrounding nations,
and gather yourselves together.”
Cause your mighty ones to come down there, Yahweh.
12
萬民都當興起、上到約沙法谷．因爲我必坐在那裏、審判四圍的列國。
“Let the nations arouse themselves,
and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat;
for there will I sit to judge all the surrounding nations.
13
開鐮罷．因爲莊稼熟了．踐踏罷。因爲酒醡滿了、酒池盈溢．他們的罪惡甚大。
Put in the sickle;
for the harvest is ripe.
Come, tread, for the wine press is full,
the vats overflow, for their wickedness is great.”
14
許多許多的人在斷定谷．因爲耶和華的日子臨近斷定谷。
Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision!
For the day of Yahweh is near, in the valley of decision.
15
日月昏暗、星宿無光。
The sun and the moon are darkened,
and the stars withdraw their shining.
16
耶和華必從錫安吼叫、從耶路撒冷發聲．天地就震動．耶和華卻要作他百姓的避難所、作以色列人的保障。
Yahweh will roar from Zion,
and thunder from Jerusalem;
and the heavens and the earth will shake;
but Yahweh will be a refuge to his people,
and a stronghold to the children of Israel.
17
你們就知道我是耶和華你們的 神、且又住在錫安我的聖山．那時、耶路撒冷必成爲聖、外邦人不再從其中經過。
“So you will know that I am Yahweh, your God,
dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain.
Then Jerusalem will be holy,
and no strangers will pass through her any more.
18
到那日、大山要滴甜酒、小山要流奶子、猶大溪河、都有水流．必有泉源從耶和華的殿中流出來、滋潤什亭谷。
It will happen in that day,
that the mountains will drop down sweet wine,
the hills will flow with milk,
all the brooks of Judah will flow with waters,
and a fountain will flow out from Yahweh’s house,
and will water the valley of Shittim.
19
埃及必然荒涼、以東變爲悽涼的曠野、都因向猶大人所行的強暴、又因在本地流無辜人的血。
Egypt will be a desolation,
and Edom will be a desolate wilderness,
for the violence done to the children of Judah,
because they have shed innocent blood in their land.
20
但猶大必存到永遠．耶路撒冷必存到萬代。
But Judah will be inhabited forever,
and Jerusalem from generation to generation.
21
我未曾報復〈或作洗除下同〉流血的罪、現在我要報復、因爲耶和華住在錫安。
I will cleanse their blood,
that I have not cleansed:
for Yahweh dwells in Zion.”
