גלגל השמיים הוא קריאה ארוכה של סיפור עתיק — הסיפור שטקסטים עתיקים ממסורות רבות מספרים על מאיין הגיעה האנושות, מי יצר אותה ולמה. הקריאה מאמצת את טקסטי המקור הראליאניים כעדשה הפרשנית הראשית שלה: שהאלוהים של בראשית לא היו אלוהות אלא צוות — ציוויליזציה אנושית מתקדמת וקטנה, המסוגלת לעצב חיים ולפעול ממרחקים בין‑כוכביים. סביב העדשה הזו הפרויקט מקבץ חומר מקראי, מסופוטמי, וֵדִי, מסואמריקאי ואחר, ומסדר אותו על השעון היחיד הארוך דיו כדי להחזיק אותו — נקיפת השוויונות, אותה תנודה איטית בת 26,000 שנה של ציר כדור הארץ שהופכת את שמי הלילה ליומן של עידנים.
