World Age

A World Age (also Precessional Age, Astrological Age, or Great Month) is one of twelve roughly 2,160-year intervals that make up the Great Year, the ~25,920-year cycle in which the precession of the equinoxes carries the spring equinox backward through the twelve constellations of the zodiac. In the Wheel of Heaven framework the World Ages are the chronological backbone of the corpus: each age names a phase of the Elohim project on Earth, from the Age of Capricorn that opened it to the present Age of Aquarius, and the framework reads the zodiac as the Elohim's own engineering calendar rather than as mystical astrology.

A World Age — also called a Precessional Age, Astrological Age, Zodiacal Age, or Great Month — is one of twelve intervals of roughly 2,160 years that together make up the Great Year, the roughly 25,920-year cycle produced by the precession of the equinoxes as it carries the spring-equinox point backward through the twelve constellations of the zodiac. In the Wheel of Heaven framework the twelve World Ages are the chronological backbone of the whole corpus: each age names a phase of the Elohim project on Earth, and the sequence from the Age of Capricorn to the present Age of Aquarius traces one full turn of the sky against which every major event of that project is dated.

The precessional ages

The mechanism is ordinary astronomy. Earth's rotational axis is tilted about 23.4° from the plane of its orbit, and it is not fixed in space: it traces a slow conical wobble, like a spinning top, completing one cone roughly every 25,920 years. The wobble comes mostly from the gravitational pull of the sun and moon on Earth's equatorial bulge, and it moves the axis at about 50 arcseconds a year — too slow to notice from one year to the next, but enough that, over centuries, it shifts the apparent position of the stars.

Its most useful effect is on the vernal equinox, the point in the sky where the sun stands at the first moment of spring. Against the fixed stars, that point drifts slowly westward, so the constellation behind the equinox sun changes from epoch to epoch. Each of the twelve zodiac constellations occupies about one-twelfth of the circle, so the equinox lingers in each for roughly 2,160 years before crossing into the next. That interval is the World Age. Because the equinox moves against the sun's annual motion, the ages run backward through the familiar order of the signs — Capricorn, then Sagittarius, then Scorpio, and so on around to Aquarius and back to Capricorn — which is a persistent source of confusion in popular writing on the subject. Two thousand years ago the equinox sun rose in Pisces; it is now crossing into Aquarius, which is why the present is described as the transition from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius.

The phenomenon has a well-documented history. Hipparchus of Nicaea identified precession around 129 BCE by comparing his own star positions with earlier Greek measurements, and Isaac Newton gave it its gravitational explanation in the Principia (1687). The age boundaries themselves are soft rather than sharp: the zodiac constellations are unequal in size (Virgo is the largest, Cancer among the smallest), and the criteria for marking a transition differ from tradition to tradition, so the corpus treats the round 2,160-year figure as a working idealization and its boundary dates as approximate.

The framework calls the unit a World Age in preference to Astrological Age because the latter is bound up with mainstream astrology's tropical zodiac, in which the signs are pinned to the seasons — 0° Aries is simply the spring equinox, whatever constellation lies behind it — and so decouple from precession entirely. The framework works instead in the sidereal sense, tracking the actual constellations, where the question "which age is it?" is answered by looking at where the equinox sun really rises. Precessional Age is the most exact label; Great Month is the old Western one, on the analogy that a Great Month is to the Great Year as an ordinary month is to an ordinary year.

The Wheel of Heaven reading

The zodiac as an engineering calendar. The framework reads the precessional age not as mystical symbolism laid over the sky but as a natural unit of time the Elohim measured and put to work — the long-duration calendar an extended project needs to keep its bearings across thousands of years. The day comes from Earth's rotation, the year from its orbit, the age from the precession of its axis; all three are there to be measured, and the corpus holds that the Elohim measured them. As the Libra chapter of timeline.epub puts it, "None of it was mythological for the Elohim... For the project itself, the zodiac was an engineering instrument." The mythology came later, when human cultures received fragments of the framework and wove them into their sacred traditions. [4]

Twelve ages, twelve phases. On this reading the twelve ages are the twelve chapters of the project, and the corpus's own twelve main chapters walk through them in order. The Age of Capricorn opens the work around 21,810 BCE with planetary survey and the beginnings of terraforming; the ages of Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra, and Virgo carry the preparation of the world and its life; the Age of Leo is the age of human creation; Cancer holds Eden; Gemini holds the Great Flood and Noah; and the later ages carry the post-flood recovery, the prophetic missions, and the spread of the message across the world.

Explore the data

The corpus's twelve World Ages are published as the Precessional World Ages dataset: zodiac, symbol, start and end year, and Genesis-day mapping for all twelve, as downloadable CC0 CSV and JSON.

The doubled signature. Each age, on the framework's reading, leaves its mark in doubled form — pointing both to its own sign and to the opposite sign 180° across the zodiac. Taurus is paired with Scorpio, Aries with Libra, Pisces with Virgo, and the present Aquarius with Leo. The pairing is what lets the astronomical content survive transmission through religions whose carriers no longer know what they are carrying. Taught, not discovered. The framework's cross-cultural reading rests on Giorgio de Santillana and Hertha von Dechend's Hamlet's Mill (1969), which argues that ancient cultures across the world tracked precession and encoded it in myth. [1] The corpus adopts that thesis openly, as an inferred reading rather than settled fact, and adds one canon claim of its own about how the knowledge arrived. Precession is far too slow to notice within a single lifetime, so whoever demonstrably knew it either kept an observing archive intact across dozens of generations or was told. The framework holds that the early cultures were taught — by the exiled Lucifer faction, the creators who sided with their own creation and stayed on Earth as its teachers, and not by the home-world Council or by Satan's faction, which had argued for humanity's abolition and had no reason to instruct it. Stated plainly, this is a claim internal to the canon; the corpus does not present it as mainstream science.

The current age and the second Great Year. The present World Age is the Age of Aquarius. The corpus dates its opening to 1950 CE as a round boundary, with the source-anchored alternative of 1946 — the year of Vorilhon's birth — marking the operational threshold. [2] The age runs to about 4110 CE, when the equinox returns to Capricorn and a second Great Year begins. The corpus reads that turn as the closure of the first Great Year, the cycle across which the Elohim's creation project has unfolded, and the opening of a second in which humanity itself becomes the creating civilization, carrying the work outward to other worlds. The forty prophets the Raëlian material describes belong to this architecture, each mission set in the age appropriate to it and the whole sequence pointing toward the Aquarian recognition. Sendy's parallel reading. Jean Sendy, in L'ère du Verseau (1970), develops a complementary account of the Aquarian opening as the moment of a major civilizational turn, read through the same precessional lens the corpus uses. [5] Sendy's 1946 boundary and the corpus's smoother 1950 boundary do not displace each other; the first records the source's specific dating, the second the corpus's round-numbered chronology.

Comparative cycles

The precessional ages sit within a much wider family of cyclical cosmologies, and the framework reads them alongside that family without collapsing the differences between them.

The most elaborate parallel is the Hindu yuga system. Its four ages — Krita, Treta, Dvapara, and the present Kali — run in a 4:3:2:1 ratio to a total mahayuga of 4,320,000 years, with the Kali Yuga alone reckoned at 432,000 years, far longer than a 2,160-year precessional age. [7] A minority tradition, following Sri Yukteswar's The Holy Science (1894), reads the original yuga cycle as a shorter, precession-scaled one later inflated by elaboration, and points to a 24,000-year figure close to the Great Year; that reading is contested in mainstream Hindu-studies scholarship, which treats the large Puranic numbers as the standard reckoning. Hesiod's five ages of man — golden, silver, bronze, heroic, iron — give Greece a comparable pattern of decline, though one with no precessional anchoring: Hesiod predates Hipparchus by some five centuries. [6] The Mesoamerican Long Count turns on a Great Cycle of thirteen bak'tuns, about 5,125 years, close to one-fifth of the Great Year — a numerical resemblance some writers read as precessional encoding and others as coincidence. [9] The Zoroastrian tradition frames world history as a 12,000-year cycle of four 3,000-year periods ending in the Frashokereti, the renovation of the world. [8]

The modern "Age of Aquarius" is a fourth kind of parallel. It reached wide audiences through the 1967 musical Hair and the Theosophical and New Age writing around it, and it shares the corpus's vocabulary without sharing its warrant: the framework does not derive its chronology from Theosophical sources, and it dates the Aquarian opening on its own terms. Mainstream comparative scholarship explains the recurrence of cyclical cosmologies through some mix of independent sky-watching, a shared human tendency to imagine time as recurring, and cultural diffusion — and much of the record is well accounted for that way. The framework makes a narrower comparative claim: that the tightest of these convergences preserve a common memory of the real precessional cycle the Elohim used, refracted through each culture's own framing. It is offered as interpretation, and the irreducible differences between the traditions — the vast Hindu numbers, the Greek moralized decline, the Mesoamerican day-count — are kept in view rather than flattened into one story.

Scholarly and critical perspectives

The framework's reading of the World Ages layers together claims of very different epistemic weight, and it is worth keeping them apart.

The astronomy is uncontroversial. Precession is real, well measured, and physically explained; Hipparchus's discovery around 129 BCE is genuine and correctly dated, and the modern rate is fixed by the IAU 2006 precession model. Nothing in the framework contests any of this.

The cross-cultural reading is where the contest lies. Hamlet's Mill has had a mixed reception: influential in the archaeoastronomy that grew up in the 1970s and 1980s, but treated skeptically by many classicists and historians of astronomy, who object that the method lacks a rigorous way to tell genuine precessional content from patterns that arise independently, and that the claim of a Neolithic discovery of precession outruns the evidence. A related objection targets the famous recurring numbers — 72, 432, 25,920 and their multiples: because 12, 30, 60, and 360 are humanity's favorite round divisors, products like 432,000 can appear in cosmological texts with no precessional referent at all. The corpus takes these objections seriously and does not lean on the weakest links in the alternative-history literature; where writers such as Graham Hancock and Robert Bauval press deep-time precessional claims, the framework notes the shared interest in ancient sky-knowledge while grounding its own account in the Raëlian canon rather than in a lost human civilization. [10]

The "astrological age" idea draws its own criticism, much of it deserved: popular treatments routinely confuse the tropical and sidereal frameworks, and the boundary date for the Aquarian opening ranges across traditions from roughly the fifteenth century CE to the twenty-seventh, depending on the constellation boundaries and reference points chosen. The framework's response is to be explicit about what it is doing — working in the sidereal sense, treating the boundaries as conventions rather than sharp astronomical lines, and labeling its own distinctive claim, that the precessional knowledge was taught, as a canon claim rather than a finding of the sciences it borrows from. David Ulansey's account of the Mithraic tauroctony as a star-map of the Taurus-to-Aries transition (see Archaeoastronomy) stands as the best-documented worked example of precessional content preserved in a religion's imagery — the kind of case the framework reads as characteristic, offered without overstating what it proves.
