Wheel of Heaven הוא קריאה ארוכה של סיפור עתיק — הסיפור שטקסטים עתיקים ממסורות רבות מספרים על מאין באה האנושות, מי יצר אותה, ומדוע. הקריאה מאמצת את חומר המקור הראליאני כעדשה הפרשנית הראשית שלה: שאלוהים של בראשית לא היו אלוהות אלא צוות — ציוויליזציה אנושית מתקדמת קטנה, המסוגלת לתכנן חיים ולפעול על פני מרחקים בין־כוכביים. סביב עדשה זו, המיזם אוסף חומר מקראי, מסופוטמי, ודי, מסואמריקני ואחר, ומארגן אותו על השעון היחיד הארוך דיו להכיל אותו — נקיפת המילואות, הנדנוד האיטי בן 26,000 השנים של ציר כדור הארץ, ההופך את שמי הלילה ללוח שנה של עידנים.
