Genealogies and a priestly retelling of David's reign

A post-exilic re-narration of Israel's history opening with extensive genealogies from Adam onward. Its account of David emphasizes the temple cult, the Levites, and the dynastic promise rather than the political and personal turbulence highlighted by Samuel.

Reaiah the son of Shobal became the father of Jahath; and Jahath became the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These are the families of the Zorathites.

These were the sons of the father of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash. The name of their sister was Hazzelelponi.

Penuel was the father of Gedor and Ezer the father of Hushah. These are the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem.

Y Asur padre de Tecoa tuvo dos mujeres, á saber, Helea, y Naara.

Ashhur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah.

Y Naara le parió á Auzam, y á Hepher, á Themeni, y á Ahastari. Estos fueron los hijos de Naara.

Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah.

Y los hijos de Helea: Sereth, Jesohar, Ethnán.

The sons of Helah were Zereth, Izhar, and Ethnan.

Hakkoz became the father of Anub, Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel the son of Harum.

Y Jabes fué más ilustre que sus hermanos, al cual su madre llamó Jabes, diciendo: Por cuanto le parí en dolor.

Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother named him Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him with sorrow.”

E invocó Jabes al Dios de Israel, diciendo: ¡Oh si me dieras bendición, y ensancharas mi término, y si tu mano fuera conmigo, y me libraras de mal, que no me dañe! E hizo Dios que le viniese lo que pidió.

Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my border! May your hand be with me, and may you keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” God granted him that which he requested.

They found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide, and quiet, and peaceful; for those who lived there before were descended from Ham.

Y LOS hijos de Rubén, primogénito de Israel, (porque él era el primogénito, mas como violó el lecho de su padre, sus derechos de primogenitura fueron dados á los hijos de José, hijo de Israel; y no fué contado por primogénito.

The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (for he was the firstborn; but, because he defiled his father’s couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel; and the genealogy is not to be listed according to the birthright.

Porque Judá fué el mayorazgo sobre sus hermanos, y el príncipe de ellos: mas el derecho de primogenitura fué de José.)

For Judah prevailed above his brothers, and from him came the prince; but the birthright was Joseph’s)—

the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

and he lived eastward even to the entrance of the wilderness from the river Euphrates, because their livestock were multiplied in the land of Gilead.

In the days of Saul, they made war with the Hagrites, who fell by their hand; and they lived in their tents throughout all the land east of Gilead.

Mas se rebelaron contra el Dios de sus padres, y fornicaron siguiendo los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, á los cuales había Jehová quitado de delante de ellos.

They trespassed against the God of their fathers, and played the prostitute after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God destroyed before them.

Por lo cual el Dios de Israel excitó el espíritu de Phul rey de los Asirios, y el espíritu de Thiglath-pilneser rey de los Asirios, el cual trasportó á los Rubenitas y Gaditas y á la media tribu de Manasés, y llevólos á Halad, y á Habor y á Ara, y al río de Gozán, hasta hoy.

So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath Pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, even the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and to the river of Gozan, to this day.

Ahitub became the father of Zadok. Zadok became the father of Ahimaaz.

Y Achîmaas engendró á Azarías, y Azarías engendró á Johanan;

Ahimaaz became the father of Azariah. Azariah became the father of Johanan.

Y Johanan engendró á Azarías, el que tuvo el sacerdocio en la casa que Salomón edificó en Jerusalem;

Johanan became the father of Azariah, who executed the priest’s office in the house that Solomon built in Jerusalem.

Y Azarías engendró á Amarías, y Amarías engendró á Achîtob;

Azariah became the father of Amariah. Amariah became the father of Ahitub.

Ahitub became the father of Zadok. Zadok became the father of Shallum.

Y Josadec fué cautivo cuando Jehová trasportó á Judá y á Jerusalem por mano de Nabucodonosor.

Jehozadak went into captivity, when Yahweh carried Judah and Jerusalem away by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.

Los hijos de Thola: Uzzi, Rephaías, Jeriel, Jamai, Jibsam y Samuel, cabezas en las familias de sus padres. De Thola fueron contados por sus linajes en el tiempo de David, veintidós mil seiscientos hombres muy valerosos.

The sons of Tola: Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam, and Shemuel, heads of their fathers’ houses, of Tola; mighty men of valor in their generations. Their number in the days of David was twenty-two thousand six hundred.

Hijo de Uzzi fué Izrahías; y los hijos de Izrahías: Michâel, Obadías, Joel, é Isías: todos, cinco príncipes.

The son of Uzzi: Izrahiah. The sons of Izrahiah: Michael, Obadiah, Joel, and Isshiah, five; all of them chief men.

Y Machîr tomó por mujer la hermana de Huppim y Suppim, cuya hermana tuvo por nombre Maachâ:) y el nombre del segundo fué Salphaad. Y Salphaad tuvo hijas.

Machir took a wife of Huppim and Shuppim, whose sister’s name was Maacah. The name of the second was Zelophehad; and Zelophehad had daughters.

Y Maachâ mujer de Machîr le parió un hijo, y llamóle Peres; y el nombre de su hermano fué Seres, cuyos hijos fueron Ulam y Recem.

Maacah the wife of Machir bore a son, and she named him Peresh. The name of his brother was Sheresh; and his sons were Ulam and Rakem.

Hijo de Ulam fué Bedán. Estos fueron los hijos de Galaad, hijo de Machîr, hijo de Manasés.

The sons of Ulam: Bedan. These were the sons of Gilead the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh.

Y su hermana Molechêt parió á Ischôd, y á Abiezer, y Mahala.

Moza became the father of Binea. Raphah was his son, Eleasah his son, and Azel his son.

Azel had six sons, whose names are these: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. All these were the sons of Azel.

The sons of Eshek his brother: Ulam his firstborn, Jeush the second, and Eliphelet the third.

The sons of Ulam were mighty men of valor, archers, and had many sons, and sons’ sons, one hundred fifty. All these were of the sons of Benjamin.

Y CONTADO todo Israel por el orden de los linajes, fueron escritos en el libro de los reyes de Israel y de Judá, que fueron trasportados á Babilonia por su rebelión.

So all Israel were listed by genealogies; and behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel. Judah was carried away captive to Babylon for their disobedience.

Los primeros moradores que entraron en sus posesiones en sus ciudades, fueron así de Israel, como de los sacerdotes, Levitas, y Nethineos.

Now the first inhabitants who lived in their possessions in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the temple servants.

Of the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah,

and Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah;

Y sus hermanos por sus linajes fueron nuevecientos cincuenta y seis. Todos estos hombres fueron cabezas de familia en las casas de sus padres.

and their brothers, according to their generations, nine hundred fifty-six. All these men were heads of fathers’ households by their fathers’ houses.

Y de los sacerdotes: Jedaía, Joiarib, Joachîm;

Of the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin,

Y Azarías hijo de Hilcías, hijo de Mesullam, hijo de Sadoc, hijo de Meraioth, hijo de Achîtob, príncipe de la casa de Dios;

and Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of God’s house;

Y Adaías hijo de Jeroham, hijo de Phasur, hijo de Machîas; y Masai hijo de Adiel, hijo de Jazera, hijo de Mesullam, hijo de Mesillemith, hijo de Immer;

and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer;

Y sus hermanos, cabezas de las casas de sus padres, en número de mil setecientos sesenta, hombres de grande eficacia en la obra del ministerio en la casa de Dios.

and their brothers, heads of their fathers’ houses, one thousand seven hundred sixty; very able men for the work of the service of God’s house.

Y de los Levitas: Semeías, hijo de Hassub, hijo de Azricam, hijo de Hasabías, de los hijos de Merari;

Of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;

Y Bacbaccar, Heres, y Galal, y Mattanía hijo de Michâs, hijo de Zichri, hijo de Asaph;

and Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph,

Y Obadías hijo de Semeías, hijo de Galal, hijo de Iduthum: y Berachîas hijo de Asa, hijo de Elcana, el cual habitó en las aldeas de Nethophati.

and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.

Y los porteros: Sallum, Accub, Talmon, Ahiman, y sus hermanos. Sallum era el jefe.

The gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their brothers (Shallum was the chief),

Y hasta ahora entre las cuadrillas de los hijos de Leví han sido estos los porteros en la puerta del rey que está al oriente.

who previously served in the king’s gate eastward. They were the gatekeepers for the camp of the children of Levi.

Y Sallum hijo de Core, hijo de Abiasath, hijo de Corah, y sus hermanos los Coraitas por la casa de su padre, tuvieron cargo de la obra del ministerio, guardando las puertas del tabernáculo; y sus padres fueron sobre la cuadrilla de Jehová guardas de la entrada.

Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brothers, of his father’s house, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent. Their fathers had been over Yahweh’s camp, keepers of the entry.

Y Phinees hijo de Eleazar fué antes capitán sobre ellos, siendo Jehová con él.

Phinehas the son of Eleazar was ruler over them in time past, and Yahweh was with him.

Y Zacarías hijo de Meselemia era portero de la puerta del tabernáculo del testimonio.

Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper of the door of the Tent of Meeting.

Todos estos, escogidos para guardas en las puertas, eran doscientos doce cuando fueron contados por el orden de sus linajes en sus villas, á los cuales constituyó en su oficio David y Samuel el vidente.

All these who were chosen to be gatekeepers in the thresholds were two hundred twelve. These were listed by genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer ordained in their office of trust.

Así ellos y sus hijos eran porteros por sus turnos á las puertas de la casa de Jehová, y de la casa del tabernáculo.

So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of Yahweh’s house, even the house of the tent, by wards.

Y estaban los porteros á los cuatro vientos, al oriente, al occidente, al septentrión, y al mediodía.

On the four sides were the gatekeepers, toward the east, west, north, and south.

Y sus hermanos que estaban en sus aldeas, venían cada siete días por sus tiempos con ellos.

Their brothers, in their villages, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them:

Porque cuatro principales de los porteros Levitas estaban en el oficio, y tenían cargo de las cámaras, y de los tesoros de la casa de Dios.

for the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, were in an office of trust, and were over the rooms and over the treasuries in God’s house.

Estos moraban alrededor de la casa de Dios, porque tenían cargo de la guardia, y el de abrir aquélla todas las mañanas.

They stayed around God’s house, because that duty was on them; and to their duty was its opening morning by morning.

Algunos de estos tenían cargo de los vasos del ministerio, los cuales se metían por cuenta, y por cuenta se sacaban.

Certain of them were in charge of the vessels of service; for these were brought in by count, and these were taken out by count.

Y otros de ellos tenían cargo de la vajilla, y de todos los vasos del santuario, y de la harina, y del vino, y del aceite, y del incienso, y de los aromas.

Some of them also were appointed over the furniture, and over all the vessels of the sanctuary, over the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices.

Y algunos de los hijos de los sacerdotes hacían los ungüentos aromáticos.

Some of the sons of the priests prepared the mixing of the spices.

Y Mathathías, uno de los Levitas, primogénito de Sallum Coraita, tenía cargo de las cosas que se hacían en sartén.

Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the office of trust over the things that were baked in pans.

Y algunos de los hijos de Coath, y de sus hermanos, tenían el cargo de los panes de la proposición, los cuales ponían por orden cada sábado.

Some of their brothers, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the show bread, to prepare it every Sabbath.

Y de estos había cantores, principales de familias de los Levitas, los cuales estaban en sus cámaras exentos; porque de día y de noche estaban en aquella obra.

These are the singers, heads of fathers’ households of the Levites, who lived in the rooms and were free from other service; for they were employed in their work day and night.

Estos eran jefes de familias de los Levitas por sus linajes, jefes que habitaban en Jerusalem.

These were heads of fathers’ households of the Levites, throughout their generations, chief men. These lived at Jerusalem.

Y en Gabaón habitaban Jehiel padre de Gabaón, el nombre de cuya mujer era Maachâ;

Jeiel the father of Gibeon, whose wife’s name was Maacah, lived in Gibeon with

Y su hijo primogénito Abdón, luego Sur, Chîs, Baal, Ner, Nadab;

his firstborn son Abdon, Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,

Gedor, Ahio, Zachârías, y Micloth.

Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.

Y Micloth engendró á Samaán. Y estos habitaban también en Jerusalem con sus hermanos enfrente de ellos.

Mikloth became the father of Shimeam. They also lived with their brothers in Jerusalem, near their brothers.

Y Ner engendró á Cis, y Cis engendró á Saúl, y Saúl engendró á Jonathán, Malchîsua, Abinadab, y Esbaal.

Ner became the father of Kish. Kish became the father of Saul. Saul became the father of Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

E hijo de Jonathán fué Merib-baal, y Merib-baal engendró á Michâ.

The son of Jonathan was Merib Baal. Merib Baal became the father of Micah.

Y los hijos de Michâ: Phitón, Melech, Tharea, y Ahaz.

The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.

Ahaz engendró á Jara, y Jara engendró á Alemeth, Azmaveth, y Zimri: y Zimri engendró á Mosa;

Ahaz became the father of Jarah. Jarah became the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. Zimri became the father of Moza.

Y Mosa engendró á Bina, cuyo hijo fué Rephaía, del que fué hijo Elasa, cuyo hijo fué Asel.

Moza became the father of Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, and Azel his son.

Y Asel tuvo seis hijos, los nombres de los cuales son: Azricam, Bochru, Ismael, Seraía, Obadías, y Hanán: estos fueron los hijos de Asel.

Azel had six sons, whose names are these: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.

Capítulo 10

LOS Filisteos pelearon con Israel; y huyeron delante de ellos los Israelitas, y cayeron heridos en el monte de Gilboa.

Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.

Y los Filisteos siguieron á Saúl y á sus hijos; y mataron los Filisteos á Jonathán, y á Abinadab, y á Malchîsua, hijos de Saúl.

The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

Y agravóse la batalla sobre Saúl, y le alcanzaron los flecheros, y fué de los flecheros herido.

The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.

Entonces dijo Saúl á su escudero: Saca tu espada, y pásame con ella, porque no vengan estos incircuncisos, y hagan escarnio de mí; mas su escudero no quiso, porque tenía gran miedo. Entonces Saúl tomó la espada, y echóse sobre ella.

Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not; for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.

Y como su escudero vió á Saúl muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada, y matóse.

When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died.

Así murió Saúl, y sus tres hijos; y toda su casa murió juntamente con él.

So Saul died with his three sons; and all his house died together.

Y viendo todos los de Israel que habitaban en el valle, que habían huído, y que Saúl y sus hijos eran muertos, dejaron sus ciudades, y huyeron: y vinieron los Filisteos, y habitaron en ellas.

When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.

Y fué que viniendo el día siguiente los Filisteos á despojar los muertos, hallaron á Saúl y á sus hijos tendidos en el monte de Gilboa.

On the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

Y luego que le hubieron desnudado, tomaron su cabeza y sus armas, y enviáronlo todo á la tierra de los Filisteos por todas partes, para que fuese denunciado á sus ídolos y al pueblo.

They stripped him, and took his head and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry the news to their idols, and to the people.

Y pusieron sus armas en el templo de su dios, y colgaron la cabeza en el templo de Dagón.

They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.

Y oyendo todos los de Jabes de Galaad lo que los Filisteos habían hecho de Saúl,

When all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

Levantáronse todos los hombres valientes, y tomaron el cuerpo de Saúl, y los cuerpos de sus hijos, y trajéronlos á Jabes; y enterraron sus huesos debajo del alcornoque en Jabes, y ayunaron siete días.

all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

Así murió Saúl por su rebelión con que prevaricó contra Jehová, contra la palabra de Jehová, la cual no guardó; y porque consultó al pythón, preguntándole,

So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Yahweh, because of Yahweh’s word, which he didn’t keep; and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire,

Y no consultó á Jehová: por esta causa lo mató, y traspasó el reino á David, hijo de Isaí.

and didn’t inquire of Yahweh. Therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

Capítulo 11

ENTONCES todo Israel se juntó á David en Hebrón, diciendo: He aquí nosotros somos tu hueso y tu carne.

Then all Israel gathered themselves to David to Hebron, saying, “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.

Y además antes de ahora, aun mientras Saúl reinaba, tú sacabas y metías á Israel. También Jehová tu Dios te ha dicho: Tú apacentarás mi pueblo Israel, y tú serás príncipe sobre Israel mi pueblo.

In times past, even when Saul was king, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. Yahweh your God said to you, ‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over my people Israel.’”

Y vinieron todos los ancianos de Israel al rey en Hebrón, y David hizo con ellos alianza delante de Jehová; y ungieron á David por rey sobre Israel, conforme á la palabra de Jehová por mano de Samuel.

So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Yahweh; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to Yahweh’s word by Samuel.

Entonces se fué David con todo Israel á Jerusalem, la cual es Jebus; y allí era el Jebuseo habitador de aquella tierra.

David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (also called Jebus); and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.

Y los moradores de Jebus dijeron á David: No entrarás acá. Mas David tomó la fortaleza de Sión, que es la ciudad de David.

The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You will not come in here.” Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion. The same is David’s city.

Y David había dicho: El que primero hiriere al Jebuseo, será cabeza y jefe. Entonces Joab hijo de Sarvia subió el primero, y fué hecho jefe.

David said, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain.” Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief.

Y David habitó en la fortaleza, y por esto le llamaron la ciudad de David.

David lived in the stronghold; therefore they called it David’s city.

Y edificó la ciudad alrededor, desde Millo hasta la cerca: y Joab reparó el resto de la ciudad.

He built the city all around, from Millo even around; and Joab repaired the rest of the city.

Y David iba adelantando y creciendo, y Jehová de los ejércitos era con él.

David grew greater and greater; for Yahweh of Armies was with him.

Estos son los principales de los valientes que David tuvo, y los que le ayudaron en su reino, con todo Israel, para hacerle rey sobre Israel, conforme á la palabra de Jehová.

Now these are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who showed themselves strong with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to Yahweh’s word concerning Israel.

Y este es el número de los valientes que David tuvo: Jasobam hijo de Hachmoni, caudillo de los treinta, el cual blandió su lanza una vez contra trescientos, á los cuales mató.

This is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Jashobeam, the son of a Hachmonite, the chief of the thirty; he lifted up his spear against three hundred and killed them at one time.

Tras de éste fué Eleazar hijo de Dodo, Ahohita, el cual era de los tres valientes.

After him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men.

Este estuvo con David en Pasdammin, estando allí juntos en batalla los Filisteos: y había allí una suerte de tierra llena de cebada, y huyendo el pueblo delante de los Filisteos,

He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where there was a plot of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.

Pusiéronse ellos en medio de la haza, y la defendieron, y vencieron á los Filisteos; y favoreciólos Jehová con grande salvamento.

They stood in the middle of the plot, defended it, and killed the Philistines; and Yahweh saved them by a great victory.

Y tres de los treinta principales descendieron á la peña á David, á la cueva de Adullam, estando el campo de los Filisteos en el valle de Raphaim.

Three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the army of the Philistines were encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

Y David estaba entonces en la fortaleza, y había á la sazón guarnición de Filisteos en Beth-lehem.

David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was in Bethlehem at that time.

David deseó entonces, y dijo: ¡Quién me diera á beber de las aguas del pozo de Beth-lehem, que está á la puerta!

David longed, and said, “Oh that one would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!”

Y aquellos tres rompieron por el campo de los Filisteos, y sacaron agua del pozo de Beth-lehem, que está á la puerta, y tomaron y trajéronla á David: mas él no la quiso beber, sino que la derramó á Jehová, y dijo:

The three broke through the army of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David; but David would not drink any of it, but poured it out to Yahweh,

Guárdeme mi Dios de hacer esto: ¿había yo de beber la sangre de estos varones con sus vidas, que con peligro de sus vidas la han traído? Y no la quiso beber. Esto hicieron aquellos tres valientes.

and said, “My God forbid me, that I should do this! Shall I drink the blood of these men who have put their lives in jeopardy?” For they risked their lives to bring it. Therefore he would not drink it. The three mighty men did these things.

Y Abisai, hermano de Joab, era cabeza de los tres, el cual blandió su lanza sobre trescientos, á los cuales hirió; y fué entre los tres nombrado.

Abishai, the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three; for he lifted up his spear against three hundred and killed them, and had a name among the three.

De los tres fué más ilustre que los otros dos, y fué el principal de ellos: mas no llegó á los tres primeros.

Of the three, he was more honorable than the two, and was made their captain; however he wasn’t included in the three.

Benaías hijo de Joiada, hijo de varón de esfuerzo, de grandes hechos, de Cabseel: él venció los dos leones de Moab: también descendió, é hirió un león en mitad de un foso en tiempo de nieve.

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, killed the two sons of Ariel of Moab. He also went down and killed a lion in the middle of a pit on a snowy day.

El mismo venció á un Egipcio, hombre de cinco codos de estatura: y el Egipcio traía una lanza como un enjullo de tejedor; mas él descendió á él con un bastón, y arrebató al Egipcio la lanza de la mano, y matólo con su misma lanza.

He killed an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high. In the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear.

Esto hizo Benaías hijo de Joiada, y fué nombrado entre los tres valientes.

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did these things, and had a name among the three mighty men.

Y fué el más honrado de los treinta, mas no llegó á los tres primeros. A éste puso David en su consejo.

Behold, he was more honorable than the thirty, but he didn’t attain to the three; and David set him over his guard.

Y los valientes de los ejércitos: Asael hermano de Joab, y Elchânan hijo de Dodo de Beth-lehem;

The mighty men of the armies also include Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

Samoth de Arori, Helles Pelonita;

Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,

Ira hijo de Acces Tecoita, Abiezer Anathothita;

Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Anathothite,

Sibbecai Husatita, Ilai Ahohita;

Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,

Maharai Nethophathita, Heled hijo de Baana Nethophathita;

Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite,

Ithai hijo de Ribai de Gabaath de los hijos de Benjamín, Benaías Phirathita;

Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite,

Adina hijo de Siza Rubenita, príncipe de los Rubenitas, y con él treinta;

Eliel the Mahavite, and Jeribai, and Joshaviah, the sons of Elnaam, and Ithmah the Moabite,

Eliel, y Obed, y Jaasiel de Mesobia.

Eliel, and Obed, and Jaasiel the Mezobaite.

Capítulo 12

ESTOS son los que vinieron á David á Siclag, estando él aún encerrado por causa de Saúl hijo de Cis, y eran de los valientes ayudadores de la guerra.

Now these are those who came to David to Ziklag, while he was a fugitive from Saul the son of Kish. They were among the mighty men, his helpers in war.

Estaban armados de arcos, y usaban de ambas manos en tirar piedras con honda, y saetas con arco. De los hermanos de Saúl de Benjamín:

They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in slinging stones and in shooting arrows from the bow. They were of Saul’s relatives of the tribe of Benjamin.

El principal Ahiezer, después Joas, hijos de Semaa Gabaathita; y Jeziel, y Pheleth, hijos de Azmaveth, y Beracah, y Jehú Anathothita;

The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; Jeziel and Pelet, the sons of Azmaveth; Beracah; Jehu the Anathothite;

E Ismaías Gabaonita, valiente entre los treinta, y más que los treinta; y Jeremías, Jahaziel, Joanán, Jozabad Gederathita,

Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty and a leader of the thirty; Jeremiah; Jahaziel; Johanan; Jozabad the Gederathite;

Eluzai, y Jeremoth, Bealías, Semarías, y Sephatías Haruphita;

Eluzai; Jerimoth; Bealiah; Shemariah; Shephatiah the Haruphite;

Elcana, é Isías, y Azareel, y Joezer, y Jasobam, de Coré;

Elkanah, Isshiah Azarel, Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites;

Y Joela, y Zebadías, hijos de Jeroham de Gedor.

and Joelah and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham of Gedor.

También de los de Gad se huyeron á David, estando en la fortaleza en el desierto, muy valientes hombres de guerra para pelear, dispuestos á hacerlo con escudo y pavés: sus rostros como rostros de leones, y ligeros como las cabras monteses.

Some Gadites joined David in the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men trained for war, who could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the gazelles on the mountains:

Ezer the chief, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,

Mismana el cuarto, Jeremías el quinto,

Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,

Attai el sexto, Eliel el séptimo,

Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,

Johanán el octavo, Elzabad el nono,

Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,

Jeremías el décimo, Machbani el undécimo.

Jeremiah the tenth, and Machbannai the eleventh.

Estos fueron capitanes del ejército de los hijos de Gad. El menor tenía cargo de cien hombres, y el mayor de mil.

These of the sons of Gad were captains of the army: he who was least was equal to one hundred, and the greatest to one thousand.

Estos pasaron el Jordán en el mes primero, cuando había salido sobre todas sus riberas; é hicieron huir á todos los de los valles al oriente y al poniente.

These are those who went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all who lived in the valleys, both toward the east and toward the west.

Asimismo algunos de los hijos de Benjamín y de Judá vinieron á David á la fortaleza.

Some of the children of Benjamin and Judah came to the stronghold to David.

Y David salió á ellos, y hablóles diciendo: Si habéis venido á mí para paz y para ayudarme, mi corazón será unido con vosotros; mas si para engañarme en pro de mis enemigos, siendo mis manos sin iniquidad, véalo el Dios de nuestros padres, y demándelo.

David went out to meet them, and answered them, “If you have come peaceably to me to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if you have come to betray me to my adversaries, since there is no wrong in my hands, may the God of our fathers see this and rebuke it.”

Entonces se envistió el espíritu en Amasai, príncipe de treinta, y dijo: Por ti, oh David, y contigo, oh hijo de Isaí. Paz, paz contigo, y paz con tus ayudadores; pues que también tu Dios te ayuda. Y David los recibió, y púsolos entre los capitanes de la cuadrilla.

Then the Spirit came on Amasai, who was chief of the thirty, and he said, “We are yours, David, and on your side, you son of Jesse. Peace, peace be to you, and peace be to your helpers; for your God helps you.” Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.

También se pasaron á David algunos de Manasés, cuando vino con los Filisteos á la batalla contra Saúl, aunque no les ayudaron; porque los sátrapas de los Filisteos, habido consejo, lo despidieron, diciendo: Con nuestras cabezas se pasará á su señor Saúl.

Some of Manasseh also joined David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle; but they didn’t help them; for the lords of the Philistines sent him away after consultation, saying, “He will desert to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads.”

Así que viniendo él á Siclag, se pasaron á él de los de Manasés, Adnas, Jozabad, Jediaiel, Michâel, Jozabad, Eliú, y Sillethai, príncipes de millares de los de Manasés.

As he went to Ziklag, some from Manasseh joined him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai, captains of thousands who were of Manasseh.

Estos ayudaron á David contra aquella compañía; porque todos ellos eran hombres valientes, y fueron capitanes en el ejército.

They helped David against the band of rovers; for they were all mighty men of valor, and were captains in the army.

Porque entonces todos los días venía ayuda á David, hasta hacerse un grande ejército, como ejército de Dios.

For from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great army, like God’s army.

Y este es el número de los principales que estaban á punto de guerra, y vinieron á David en Hebrón, para traspasarle el reino de Saúl, conforme á la palabra de Jehová:

These are the numbers of the heads of those who were armed for war, who came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to Yahweh’s word.

De los hijos de Judá que traían escudo y lanza, seis mil y ochocientos, á punto de guerra.

The children of Judah who bore shield and spear were six thousand eight hundred, armed for war.

De los hijos de Simeón, valientes y esforzados hombres para la guerra, siete mil y ciento.

Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valor for the war, seven thousand one hundred.

De los hijos de Leví, cuatro mil y seiscientos;

Of the children of Levi four thousand six hundred.

Asimismo Joiada, príncipe de los del linaje de Aarón, y con él tres mil y setecientos;

Jehoiada was the leader of the household of Aaron; and with him were three thousand seven hundred,

Y Sadoc, mancebo valiente y esforzado, con veinte y dos de los principales de la casa de su padre.

and Zadok, a young man mighty of valor, and of his father’s house twenty-two captains.

De los hijos de Benjamín hermanos de Saúl, tres mil; porque aun en aquel tiempo muchos de ellos tenían la parte de la casa de Saúl.

Of the children of Benjamin, Saul’s relatives, three thousand: for until then, the greatest part of them had kept their allegiance to Saul’s house.

Y de los hijos de Ephraim, veinte mil y ochocientos, muy valientes, varones ilustres en las casas de sus padres.

Of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand eight hundred, mighty men of valor, famous men in their fathers’ houses.

De la media tribu de Manasés, diez y ocho mil, los cuales fueron tomados por lista para venir á poner á David por rey.

Of the half-tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, who were mentioned by name, to come and make David king.

Y de los hijos de Issachâr, doscientos principales, entendidos en los tiempos, y que sabían lo que Israel debía hacer, cuyo dicho seguían todos sus hermanos.

Of the children of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their heads were two hundred; and all their brothers were at their command.

Y de Zabulón cincuenta mil, que salían á campaña á punto de guerra, con todas armas de guerra, dispuestos á pelear sin doblez de corazón.

Of Zebulun, such as were able to go out in the army, who could set the battle in array, with all kinds of instruments of war, fifty thousand, and who could command and were not of double heart.

Y de Nephtalí mil capitanes, y con ellos treinta y siete mil con escudo y lanza.

Of Naphtali one thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty-seven thousand.

De los de Dan, dispuestos á pelear, veinte y ocho mil y seiscientos.

Of the Danites who could set the battle in array, twenty-eight thousand six hundred.

Y de Aser, á punto de guerra y aparejados á pelear, cuarenta mil.

Of Asher, such as were able to go out in the army, who could set the battle in array, forty thousand.

Y de la otra parte del Jordán, de los Rubenitas y de los de Gad y de la media tribu de Manasés, ciento y veinte mil con toda suerte de armas de guerra.

On the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites, the Gadites, and of the half-tribe of Manasseh, with all kinds of instruments of war for the battle, one hundred twenty thousand.

Todos estos hombres de guerra, dispuestos para guerrear, vinieron con corazón perfecto á Hebrón, para poner á David por rey sobre todo Israel; asimismo todos los demás de Israel estaban de un mismo ánimo para poner á David por rey.

All these were men of war, who could order the battle array, and came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.

Y estuvieron allí con David tres días comiendo y bebiendo, porque sus hermanos habían prevenido para ellos.

They were there with David three days, eating and drinking; for their brothers had supplied provisions for them.

Y también los que les eran vecinos, hasta Issachâr y Zabulón y Nephtalí, trajeron pan en asnos, y camellos, y mulos, y bueyes; y provisión de harina, masas de higos, y pasas, vino y aceite, bueyes y ovejas en abundancia, porque en Israel había alegría.

Moreover those who were near to them, as far as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali, brought bread on donkeys, on camels, on mules, and on oxen: supplies of flour, cakes of figs, clusters of raisins, wine, oil, cattle, and sheep in abundance; for there was joy in Israel.

Capítulo 13

ENTONCES David tomó consejo con los capitanes de millares y de cientos, y con todos los jefes.

David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader.

Y dijo David á todo el congreso de Israel: Si os parece bien y de Jehová nuestro Dios, enviaremos á todas partes á llamar nuestros hermanos que han quedado en todas las tierras de Israel, y á los sacerdotes y Levitas que están con ellos en sus ciudades y ejidos que se junten con nosotros;

David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is of Yahweh our God, let us send word everywhere to our brothers who are left in all the land of Israel, with whom the priests and Levites are in their cities that have suburbs, that they may gather themselves to us.

Y traigamos el arca de nuestro Dios á nosotros, porque desde el tiempo de Saúl no hemos hecho caso de ella.

Also, let us again bring the ark of our God back to us; for we didn’t seek it in the days of Saul.”

Y dijo todo el congreso que se hiciese así, porque la cosa parecía bien á todo el pueblo.

All the assembly said that they would do so; for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

Entonces juntó David á todo Israel, desde Sihor de Egipto hasta entrar en Hamath, para que trajesen el arca de Dios de Chîriath-jearim.

So David assembled all Israel together, from the Shihor the brook of Egypt even to the entrance of Hamath, to bring God’s ark from Kiriath Jearim.

Y subió David con todo Israel á Baala de Chîriath-jearim, que es en Judá, para pasar de allí el arca de Jehová Dios que habita entre los querubines, sobre la cual su nombre es invocado.

David went up with all Israel to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath Jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there God Yahweh’s ark that sits above the cherubim, that is called by the Name.

Y lleváronse el arca de Dios de la casa de Abinadab en un carro nuevo; y Uzza y su hermano guiaban el carro.

They carried God’s ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadab’s house; and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.

Y David y todo Israel hacían alegrías delante de Dios con todas sus fuerzas, con canciones, arpas, salterios, tamboriles, címbalos y trompetas.

David and all Israel played before God with all their might, even with songs, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with cymbals, and with trumpets.

Y como llegaron á la era de Chidón, Uzza extendió su mano al arca para tenerla, porque los bueyes se desmandaban.

When they came to Chidon’s threshing floor, Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.

Y el furor de Jehová se encendió contra Uzza, é hiriólo, porque había extendido su mano al arca: y murió allí delante de Dios.

Yahweh’s anger burned against Uzza, and he struck him, because he put his hand on the ark; and he died there before God.

Y David tuvo pesar, porque Jehová había hecho rotura en Uzza; por lo que llamó aquel lugar Pérez-uzza, hasta hoy.

David was displeased, because Yahweh had broken out against Uzza. He called that place Perez Uzza, to this day.

Y David temió á Dios aquel día, y dijo: ¿Cómo he de traer á mi casa el arca de Dios?

David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring God’s ark home to me?”

Y no trajo David el arca á su casa en la ciudad de David, sino llevóla á casa de Obed-edom Getheo.

So David didn’t move the ark with him into David’s city, but carried it aside into Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house.

Y el arca de Dios estuvo en casa de Obed-edom, en su casa, tres meses: y bendijo Jehová la casa de Obed-edom, y todas las cosas que tenía.

God’s ark remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house three months; and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom’s house and all that he had.

Capítulo 14

E HIRAM rey de Tiro envió embajadores á David, y madera de cedro, y albañiles y carpinteros, que le edificasen una casa.

Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David with cedar trees, masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.

Y entendió David que Jehová lo había confirmado por rey sobre Israel, y que había ensalzado su reino sobre su pueblo Israel.

David perceived that Yahweh had established him king over Israel; for his kingdom was exalted on high, for his people Israel’s sake.

Entonces David tomó también mujeres en Jerusalem y aun engendró David hijos é hijas.

David took more wives at Jerusalem, and David became the father of more sons and daughters.

Y estos son los nombres de los que le nacieron en Jerusalem: Samua, Sobab, Nathán, Salomón,

These are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

Ibhar, Elisua, Eliphelet,

Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,

Noga, Nepheg, Japhías,

Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,

Elisama, Beel-iada y Eliphelet.

Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

Y oyendo los Filisteos que David había sido ungido por rey sobre todo Israel, subieron todos los Filisteos en busca de David. Y como David lo oyó, salió contra ellos.

When the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went out against them.

Y vinieron los Filisteos, y extendiéronse por el valle de Raphaim.

Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.

Entonces David consultó á Dios, diciendo: ¿Subiré contra los Filisteos? ¿los entregarás en mi mano? Y Jehová le dijo: Sube, que yo los entregaré en tus manos.

David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?” Yahweh said to him, “Go up; for I will deliver them into your hand.”

Subieron pues á Baal-perasim, y allí los hirió David. Dijo luego David: Dios rompió mis enemigos por mi mano, como se rompen las aguas. Por esto llamaron el nombre de aquel lugar Baal-perasim.

So they came up to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. David said, God has broken my enemies by my hand, like waters breaking out. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim.

Y dejaron allí sus dioses, y David dijo que los quemasen al fuego.

They left their gods there; and David gave a command, and they were burned with fire.

Y volviendo los Filisteos á extenderse por el valle,

The Philistines made a another raid in the valley.

David volvió á consultar á Dios, y Dios le dijo: No subas tras ellos, sino rodéalos, para venir á ellos por delante de los morales;

David inquired again of God; and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them. Turn away from them, and come on them opposite the mulberry trees.

Y así que oyeres venir un estruendo por las copas de los morales, sal luego á la batalla: porque Dios saldrá delante de ti, y herirá el campo de los Filisteos.

When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then go out to battle; for God has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”

Hizo pues David como Dios le mandó, é hirieron el campo de los Filisteos desde Gabaón hasta Gezer.

David did as God commanded him; and they attacked the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.

Y la fama de David fué divulgada por todas aquellas tierras: y puso Jehová temor de David sobre todas las gentes.

The fame of David went out into all lands; and Yahweh brought the fear of him on all nations.

Capítulo 15

HIZO también casas para sí en la ciudad de David, y labró un lugar para el arca de Dios, y tendióle una tienda.

David made himself houses in David’s city; and he prepared a place for God’s ark, and pitched a tent for it.

Entonces dijo David: El arca de Dios no debe ser traída sino por los Levitas; porque á ellos ha elegido Jehová para que lleven el arca de Jehová, y le sirvan perpetuamente.

Then David said, “No one ought to carry God’s ark but the Levites. For Yahweh has chosen them to carry God’s ark, and to minister to him forever.”

Y juntó David á todo Israel en Jerusalem, para que pasasen el arca de Jehová á su lugar, el cual le había él preparado.

David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem, to bring up Yahweh’s ark to its place, which he had prepared for it.

Juntó también David á los hijos de Aarón y á los Levitas:

David gathered together the sons of Aaron and the Levites:

De los hijos de Coath, Uriel el principal, y sus hermanos, ciento y veinte;

of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, and his brothers one hundred twenty;

De los hijos de Merari, Asaías el principal, y sus hermanos, doscientos y veinte;

of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and his brothers two hundred twenty;

De los hijos de Gersón, Joel el principal, y sus hermanos, ciento y treinta;

of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and his brothers one hundred thirty;

De los hijos de Elisaphán, Semeías el principal, y sus hermanos, doscientos;

of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and his brothers two hundred;

De los hijos de Hebrón, Eliel el principal, y sus hermanos, ochenta;

of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, and his brothers eighty;

De los hijos de Uzziel, Aminadab el principal, y sus hermanos, ciento y doce.

of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and his brothers one hundred twelve.

Y llamó David á Sadoc y á Abiathar, sacerdotes, y á los Levitas, Uriel, Asaías, Joel, Semeías, Eliel, y Aminadab;

David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab,

Y díjoles: Vosotros que sois los principales de padres entre los Levitas, santificaos, vosotros y vuestros hermanos, y pasad el arca de Jehová Dios de Israel al lugar que le he preparado;

and said to them, “You are the heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites. Sanctify yourselves, both you and your brothers, that you may bring the ark of Yahweh, the God of Israel, up to the place that I have prepared for it.

Pues por no haberlo hecho así vosotros la primera vez, Jehová nuestro Dios hizo en nosotros rotura, por cuanto no le buscamos según la ordenanza.

For because you didn’t carry it at first, Yahweh our God broke out in anger against us, because we didn’t seek him according to the ordinance.”

Así los sacerdotes y los Levitas se santificaron para traer el arca de Jehová Dios de Israel.

So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

Y los hijos de los Levitas trajeron el arca de Dios puesta sobre sus hombros en las barras, como lo había mandado Moisés conforme á la palabra de Jehová.

The children of the Levites bore God’s ark on their shoulders with its poles, as Moses commanded according to Yahweh’s word.

Asimismo dijo David á los principales de los Levitas, que constituyesen de sus hermanos cantores, con instrumentos de música, con salterios, y arpas, y címbalos, que resonasen, y alzasen la voz con alegría.

David spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers with instruments of music, stringed instruments, harps, and cymbals, sounding aloud and lifting up their voices with joy.

Y los Levitas constituyeron á Hemán hijo de Joel; y de sus hermanos, á Asaph hijo de Berechîas; y de los hijos de Merari y de sus hermanos, á Ethán hijo de Cusaías;

So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brothers, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brothers, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;

Y con ellos á sus hermanos del segundo orden, á Zachârías, Ben y Jaaziel, Semiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaías, Maasías, y Mathithías, Eliphelehu, Micnías, Obed-edom, y Jehiel, los porteros.

and with them their brothers of the second rank, Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, the doorkeepers.

Así Hemán, Asaph, y Ethán, que eran cantores, sonaban con címbalos de metal.

So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were given cymbals of brass to sound aloud;

Y Zachârías, Jaaziel, Semiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maasías, y Benaías, con salterios sobre Alamoth.

and Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with stringed instruments set to Alamoth;

Y Mathithías, Eliphelehu, Micnías, Obed-edom, Jehiel, y Azazías, cantaban con arpas en la octava sobresaliendo.

and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps tuned to the eight-stringed lyre, to lead.

Y Chênanías, principal de los Levitas, estaba para la entonación; pues él presidía en el canto, porque era entendido.

Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was over the singing. He taught the singers, because he was skillful.

Y Berechîas y Elcana eran porteros del arca.

Berechiah and Elkanah were doorkeepers for the ark.

Y Sebanías, Josaphat, Nathanael, Amasai, Zachârías, Benaías, y Eliezer, sacerdotes, tocaban las trompetas delante del arca de Dios: Obed-edom y Jehías eran también porteros del arca.

Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, blew the trumpets before God’s ark; and Obed-Edom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.

David pues y los ancianos de Israel, y los capitanes de millares, fueron á traer el arca del pacto de Jehová, de casa de Obed-edom, con alegría.

So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring the ark of Yahweh’s covenant up out of the house of Obed-Edom with joy.

Y ayudando Dios á los Levitas que llevaban el arca del pacto de Jehová, sacrificaban siete novillos y siete carneros.

When God helped the Levites who bore the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.

Y David iba vestido de lino fino y también todos los Levitas que llevaban el arca, y asimismo los cantores; y Chênanías era maestro de canto entre los cantores. Llevaba también David sobre sí un ephod de lino.

David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who bore the ark, the singers, and Chenaniah the choir master with the singers; and David had an ephod of linen on him.

De esta manera llevaba todo Israel el arca del pacto de Jehová, con júbilo y sonido de bocinas, y trompetas, y címbalos, y al son de salterios y arpas.

Thus all Israel brought the ark of Yahweh’s covenant up with shouting, with sound of the cornet, with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud with stringed instruments and harps.

Y como el arca del pacto de Jehová llegó á la ciudad de David, Michâl, hija de Saúl, mirando por una ventana, vió al rey David que saltaba y bailaba; y menospreciólo en su corazón.

As the ark of Yahweh’s covenant came to David’s city, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David dancing and playing; and she despised him in her heart.

Capítulo 16

ASÍ trajeron el arca de Dios, y asentáronla en medio de la tienda que David había tendido para ella: y ofrecieron holocaustos y pacíficos delante de Dios.

They brought in God’s ark, and set it in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.

Y como David hubo acabado de ofrecer el holocausto y los pacíficos, bendijo al pueblo en el nombre de Jehová.

When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in Yahweh’s name.

Y repartió á todo Israel, así á hombres como á mujeres, á cada uno una torta de pan, y una pieza de carne, y un frasco de vino.

He gave to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to everyone a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins.

Y puso delante del arca de Jehová ministros de los Levitas, para que recordasen, y confesasen, y loasen á Jehová Dios de Israel:

He appointed some of the Levites to minister before Yahweh’s ark, and to commemorate, to thank, and to praise Yahweh, the God of Israel:

Asaph el primero, el segundo después de él Zachârías, Jeiel, Semiramoth, Jehiel, Mathithías, Eliab, Benaías, Obed-edom, y Jehiel, con sus instrumentos de salterios y arpas; mas Asaph hacía sonido con címbalos:

Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, with stringed instruments and with harps; and Asaph with cymbals, sounding aloud;

Benaías también y Jahaziel, sacerdotes, continuamente con trompetas delante del arca del pacto de Dios.

with Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually, before the ark of the covenant of God.

Entonces, en aquel día, dió David principio á celebrar á Jehová por mano de Asaph y de sus hermanos:

Then on that day David first ordained to give thanks to Yahweh, by the hand of Asaph and his brothers.

Confesad á Jehová, invocad su nombre, haced notorias en los pueblos sus obras.

Oh give thanks to Yahweh. Call on his name. Make what he has done known among the peoples.

Cantad á él, cantadle salmos; hablad de todas sus maravillas.

Sing to him. Sing praises to him. Tell of all his marvelous works.

Gloriaos en su santo nombre; alégrese el corazón de los que buscan á Jehová.

Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek Yahweh rejoice.

Buscad á Jehová y su fortaleza; buscad su rostro continuamente.

Seek Yahweh and his strength. Seek his face forever more.

Haced memoria de sus maravillas que ha obrado, de sus prodigios, y de los juicios de su boca,

Remember his marvelous works that he has done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth,

Oh vosotros, simiente de Israel su siervo, hijos de Jacob, sus escogidos.

you offspring of Israel his servant, you children of Jacob, his chosen ones.

Jehová, él es nuestro Dios; sus juicios en toda la tierra.

He is Yahweh our God. His judgments are in all the earth.

Haced memoria de su alianza perpetuamente, y de la palabra que él mandó en mil generaciones;

Remember his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,

Del pacto que concertó con Abraham, y de su juramento á Isaac;

the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac.

El cual confirmó á Jacob por estatuto, y á Israel por pacto sempiterno,

He confirmed the same to Jacob for a statute, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,

Diciendo: A ti daré la tierra de Canaán, suerte de vuestra herencia;

saying, “I will give you the land of Canaan, The lot of your inheritance,”

Cuando erais pocos en número, pocos y peregrinos en ella;

when you were but a few men in number, yes, very few, and foreigners were in it.

Y andaban de nación en nación, y de un reino á otro pueblo.

They went about from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people.

No permitió que nadie los oprimiese: antes por amor de ellos castigó á los reyes.

He allowed no man to do them wrong. Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes,

No toquéis, dijo, á mis ungidos, ni hagáis mal á mis profetas.

“Don’t touch my anointed ones! Do my prophets no harm!”

Cantad á Jehová, toda la tierra, anunciad de día en día su salud.

Sing to Yahweh, all the earth! Display his salvation from day to day.

Cantad entre las gentes su gloria, y en todos los pueblos sus maravillas.

Declare his glory among the nations, and his marvelous works among all the peoples.

Porque grande es Jehová, y digno de ser grandemente loado, y de ser temido sobre todos los dioses.

For great is Yahweh, and greatly to be praised. He also is to be feared above all gods.

Porque todos los dioses de los pueblos son nada: mas Jehová hizo los cielos.

For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but Yahweh made the heavens.

Poderío y hermosura delante de él; fortaleza y alegría en su morada.

Honor and majesty are before him. Strength and gladness are in his place.

Atribuid á Jehová, oh familias de los pueblos, atribuid á Jehová gloria y potencia.

Ascribe to Yahweh, you relatives of the peoples, ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength!

Tributad á Jehová la gloria debida á su nombre: traed ofrenda, y venid delante de él; postraos delante de Jehová en la hermosura de su santidad.

Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due to his name. Bring an offering, and come before him. Worship Yahweh in holy array.

Temed en su presencia, toda la tierra: el mundo será aún establecido, para que no se conmueva.

Tremble before him, all the earth. The world also is established that it can’t be moved.

Alégrense los cielos, y gócese la tierra, y digan en las naciones: Reina Jehová.

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice! Let them say among the nations, “Yahweh reigns!”

Resuene la mar, y la plenitud de ella: alégrese el campo, y todo lo que contiene.

Let the sea roar, and its fullness! Let the field exult, and all that is in it!

Entonces cantarán los árboles de los bosques delante de Jehová, porque viene á juzgar la tierra.

Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before Yahweh, for he comes to judge the earth.

Celebrad á Jehová, porque es bueno; porque su misericordia es eterna.

Oh give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

Y decid: Sálvanos, oh Dios, salud nuestra: júntanos, y líbranos de las gentes, para que confesemos tu santo nombre, y nos gloriemos en tus alabanzas.

Say, “Save us, God of our salvation! Gather us together and deliver us from the nations, to give thanks to your holy name, to triumph in your praise.”

Bendito sea Jehová Dios de Israel, de eternidad á eternidad. Y dijo todo el pueblo, Amén: y alabó á Jehová.

Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. All the people said, “Amen,” and praised Yahweh.

Y dejó allí, delante del arca del pacto de Jehová, á Asaph y á sus hermanos, para que ministrasen de continuo delante del arca, cada cosa en su día:

So he left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work required;

Y á Obed-edom y á sus hermanos, sesenta y ocho; y á Obed-edom hijo de Jeduthún, y á Asa, por porteros:

and Obed-Edom with their brothers, sixty-eight; Obed-Edom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be doorkeepers;

Asimismo á Sadoc el sacerdote, y á sus hermanos los sacerdotes, delante del tabernáculo de Jehová en el alto que estaba en Gabaón,

and Zadok the priest, and his brothers the priests, before Yahweh’s tabernacle in the high place that was at Gibeon,

Para que sacrificasen continuamente, á mañana y tarde, holocaustos á Jehová en el altar del holocausto, conforme á todo lo que está escrito en la ley de Jehová, que él prescribió á Israel;

to offer burnt offerings to Yahweh on the altar of burnt offering continually morning and evening, even according to all that is written in Yahweh’s law, which he commanded to Israel;

Y con ellos á Hemán y á Jeduthún, y los otros escogidos declarados por sus nombres, para glorificar á Jehová, porque es eterna su misericordia;

and with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen, who were mentioned by name, to give thanks to Yahweh, because his loving kindness endures forever;

Con ellos á Hemán y á Jeduthún con trompetas y címbalos para tañer, y con otros instrumentos de música de Dios; y á los hijos de Jeduthún, por porteros.

and with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should sound aloud, and with instruments for the songs of God; and the sons of Jeduthun to be at the gate.

Y todo el pueblo se fué cada uno á su casa; y David se volvió para bendecir su casa.

All the people departed, each man to his house; and David returned to bless his house.

Capítulo 17

Y ACONTECIÓ que morando David en su casa, dijo David al profeta Nathán: He aquí yo habito en casa de cedro, y el arca del pacto de Jehová debajo de cortinas.

When David lived in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, “Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of Yahweh’s covenant is in a tent.”

Y Nathán dijo á David: Haz todo lo que está en tu corazón, porque Dios es contigo.

Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart; for God is with you.”

En aquella misma noche fué palabra de Dios á Nathán, diciendo:

That same night, the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

Ve y di á David mi siervo: Así ha dicho Jehová: Tú no me edificarás casa en que habite:

“Go and tell David my servant, ‘Yahweh says, “You shall not build me a house to dwell in;

Porque no he habitado en casa alguna desde el día que saqué á los hijos de Israel hasta hoy; antes estuve de tienda en tienda, y de tabernáculo en tabernáculo.

for I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tent to another.

En todo cuanto anduve con todo Israel ¿hablé una palabra á alguno de los jueces de Israel, á los cuales mandé que apacentasen mi pueblo, para decirles: Por qué no me edificáis una casa de cedro?

In all places in which I have walked with all Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people, saying, ‘Why have you not built me a house of cedar?’”’

Por tanto, ahora dirás á mi siervo David: Así dijo Jehová de los ejércitos: Yo te tomé de la majada, de detrás del ganado, para que fueses príncipe sobre mi pueblo Israel;

“Now therefore, you shall tell my servant David, ‘Yahweh of Armies says, “I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel.

Y he sido contigo en todo cuanto has andado, y he talado á todos tus enemigos de delante de ti, y hete hecho grande nombre, como el nombre de los grandes que son en la tierra.

I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you. I will make you a name, like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.

Asimismo he dispuesto lugar á mi pueblo Israel, y lo he plantado para que habite por sí, y que no sea más conmovido: ni los hijos de iniquidad lo consumirán más, como antes,

I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more. The children of wickedness will not waste them any more, as at the first,

Y desde el tiempo que puse los jueces sobre mi pueblo Israel; mas humillaré á todos tus enemigos. Hágote además saber que Jehová te ha de edificar casa.

and from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover I tell you that Yahweh will build you a house.

Y será que, cuando tus días fueren cumplidos para irte con tus padres, levantaré tu simiente después de ti, la cual será de tus hijos, y afirmaré su reino.

It will happen, when your days are fulfilled that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up your offspring after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

El me edificará casa, y yo confirmaré su trono eternalmente.

He will build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.

Yo le seré por padre, y él me será por hijo: y no quitaré de él mi misericordia, como la quité de aquel que fué antes de ti;

I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will not take my loving kindness away from him, as I took it from him that was before you;

Mas yo lo confirmaré en mi casa y en mi reino eternalmente; y su trono será firme para siempre.

but I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom forever. His throne will be established forever.”’”

Conforme á todas estas palabras, y conforme á toda esta visión, así habló Nathán á David.

According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.

Y entró el rey David, y estuvo delante de Jehová, y dijo: Jehová Dios, ¿quién soy yo, y cuál es mi casa, que me has traído hasta este lugar?

Then David the king went in, and sat before Yahweh; and he said, “Who am I, Yahweh God, and what is my house, that you have brought me this far?

Y aun esto, oh Dios, te ha parecido poco, pues que has hablado de la casa de tu siervo para más lejos, y me has mirado como á un hombre excelente, oh Jehová Dios.

This was a small thing in your eyes, God; but you have spoken of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and have respected me according to the standard of a man of high degree, Yahweh God.

¿Qué más puede añadir David pidiendo de ti para glorificar á tu siervo? mas tú conoces á tu siervo.

What can David say yet more to you concerning the honor which is done to your servant? For you know your servant.

Oh Jehová, por amor de tu siervo y según tu corazón, has hecho toda esta grandeza, para hacer notorias todas tus grandezas.

Yahweh, for your servant’s sake, and according to your own heart, you have done all this greatness, to make known all these great things.

Jehová, no hay semejante á ti, ni hay Dios sino tú, según todas las cosas que hemos oído con nuestros oídos.

Yahweh, there is no one like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

¿Y qué gente hay en la tierra como tu pueblo Israel, cuyo Dios fuese y se redimiera un pueblo, para hacerte nombre con grandezas y maravillas, echando las gentes de delante de tu pueblo, que tú rescataste de Egipto?

What one nation in the earth is like your people Israel, whom God went to redeem to himself for a people, to make you a name by great and awesome things, in driving out nations from before your people, whom you redeem out of Egypt?

Tú has constituído á tu pueblo Israel por pueblo tuyo para siempre; y tú, Jehová, has venido á ser su Dios.

For you made your people Israel your own people forever; and you, Yahweh, became their God.

Ahora pues, Jehová, la palabra que has hablado acerca de tu siervo y de su casa, sea firme para siempre, y haz como has dicho.

Now, Yahweh, let the word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, be established forever, and do as you have spoken.

Permanezca pues, y sea engrandecido tu nombre para siempre, á fin de que se diga: Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, es Dios para Israel. Y sea la casa de tu siervo David firme delante de ti.

Let your name be established and magnified forever, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel. The house of David your servant is established before you.’

Porque tú, Dios mío, revelaste al oído á tu siervo que le has de edificar casa; por eso ha hallado tu siervo motivo de orar delante de ti.

For you, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build him a house. Therefore your servant has found courage to pray before you.

Ahora pues, Jehová, tú eres el Dios que has hablado de tu siervo este bien;

Now, Yahweh, you are God, and have promised this good thing to your servant.

Y ahora has querido bendecir la casa de tu siervo, para que permanezca perpetuamente delante de ti: porque tú, Jehová, la has bendecido, y será bendita para siempre.

Now it has pleased you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, Yahweh, have blessed, and it is blessed forever.”

Capítulo 18

DESPUÉS de estas cosas aconteció que David hirió á los Filisteos, y los humilló; y tomó á Gath y sus villas de mano de los Filisteos.

After this, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines.

También hirió á Moab; y los Moabitas fueron siervos de David trayéndole presentes.

He defeated Moab; and the Moabites became servants to David, and brought tribute.

Asimismo hirió David á Adarezer rey de Soba, en Hamath, yendo él á asegurar su dominio al río de Eufrates.

David defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah to Hamath, as he went to establish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

Y tomóles David mil carros, y siete mil de á caballo, y veinte mil hombres de á pie: y desjarretó David los caballos de todos los carros, excepto los de cien carros que dejó.

David took from him one thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved of them enough for one hundred chariots.

Y viniendo los Siros de Damasco en ayuda de Adarezer rey de Soba, David hirió de los Siros veintidós mil hombres.

When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck twenty-two thousand men of the Syrians.

Y puso David guarnición en Siria la de Damasco, y los Siros fueron hechos siervos de David, trayéndole presentes: porque Jehová salvaba á David donde quiera que iba.

Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought tribute. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went.

Tomó también David los escudos de oro que llevaban los siervos de Adarezer, y trájolos á Jerusalem.

David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

Asimismo de Thibath y de Chûn ciudades de Adarezer, tomó David muy mucho metal, de que Salomón hizo el mar de bronce, las columnas, y vasos de bronce.

From Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took very much brass, with which Solomon made the bronze sea, the pillars, and the vessels of brass.

Y oyendo Tou rey de Hamath, que David había deshecho todo el ejército de Adarezer, rey de Soba,

When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had struck all the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,

Envió á Adoram su hijo al rey David, á saludarle y á bendecirle por haber peleado con Adarezer, y haberle vencido; porque Tou tenía guerra con Adarezer. Envióle también toda suerte de vasos de oro, de plata y de metal;

he sent Hadoram his son to king David, to Greet him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him (for Hadadezer had wars with Tou); and he had with him all kinds of vessels of gold and silver and brass.

Los cuales el rey David dedicó á Jehová, con la plata y oro que había tomado de todas las naciones, de Edom, de Moab, de los hijos de Ammón, de los Filisteos, y de Amalec.

King David also dedicated these to Yahweh, with the silver and the gold that he carried away from all the nations; from Edom, from Moab, from the children of Ammon, from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

A más de esto Abisai hijo de Sarvia hirió en el valle de la Sal dieciocho mil Idumeos.

Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah struck eighteen thousand of the Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

Y puso guarnición en Edom, y todos los Idumeos fueron siervos de David: porque Jehová guardaba á David donde quiera que iba.

He put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became servants to David. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went.

Y reinó David sobre todo Israel, y hacía juicio y justicia á todo su pueblo.

David reigned over all Israel; and he executed justice and righteousness for all his people.

Y Joab hijo de Sarvia era general del ejército; y Josaphat hijo de Ahilud, canciller;

Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;

Y Sadoc hijo de Achîtob, y Abimelec hijo de Abiathar, eran sacerdotes; y Sausa, secretario;

Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were priests; Shavsha was scribe;

Y Benaías hijo de Joiada era sobre los Ceretheos y Peletheos; y los hijos de David eran los príncipes cerca del rey.

and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief officials serving the king.

Capítulo 19

DESPUÉS de estas cosas aconteció que murió Naas rey de los hijos de Ammón, y reinó en su lugar su hijo.

After this, Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his place.

Y dijo David: Haré misericordia con Hanán hijo de Naas, porque también su padre hizo conmigo misericordia. Así David envió embajadores que lo consolasen de la muerte de su padre. Mas venidos los siervos de David en la tierra de los hijos de Ammón á Hanán, para consolarle,

David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.

Los príncipes de los hijos de Ammón dijeron á Hanán: ¿A tu parecer honra David á tu padre, que te ha enviado consoladores? ¿no vienen antes sus siervos á ti para escudriñar, é inquirir, y reconocer la tierra?

But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Haven’t his servants come to you to search, to overthrow, and to spy out the land?”

Entonces Hanán tomó los siervos de David, y rapólos, y cortóles los vestidos por medio, hasta las nalgas, y despachólos.

So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle at their buttocks, and sent them away.

Fuéronse pues, y dada que fué la nueva á David de aquellos varones, él envió á recibirlos, porque estaban muy afrentados. E hízoles decir el rey: Estaos en Jericó hasta que os crezca la barba, y entonces volveréis.

Then some people went and told David how the men were treated. He sent to meet them; for the men were greatly humiliated. The king said, “Stay at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”

Y viendo los hijos de Ammón que se habían hecho odiosos á David, Hanán y los hijos de Ammón enviaron mil talentos de plata, para tomar á sueldo carros y gente de á caballo de Siria de los ríos, y de la Siria de Maachâ, y de Soba.

When the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent one thousand talents of silver to hire chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, out of Aram-maacah, and out of Zobah.

Y tomaron á sueldo treinta y dos mil carros, y al rey de Maachâ y á su pueblo, los cuales vinieron y asentaron su campo delante de Medeba. Y juntáronse también los hijos de Ammón de sus ciudades, y vinieron á la guerra.

So they hired for themselves thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah with his people, who came and encamped near Medeba. The children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.

Oyéndolo David, envió á Joab con todo el ejército de los hombres valientes.

When David heard of it, he sent Joab with all the army of the mighty men.

Y los hijos de Ammón salieron, y ordenaron su tropa á la entrada de la ciudad; y los reyes que habían venido, estaban por sí en el campo.

The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the gate of the city; and the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.

Y viendo Joab que la haz de la batalla estaba contra él delante y á las espaldas, escogió de todos los más aventajados que había en Israel, y ordenó su escuadrón contra los Siros.

Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose some of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.

Puso luego el resto de la gente en mano de Abisai su hermano, ordenándolos en batalla contra los Ammonitas.

The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and they put themselves in array against the children of Ammon.

Y dijo: Si los Siros fueren más fuertes que yo, tú me salvarás; y si los Ammonitas fueren más fuertes que tú, yo te salvaré.

He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you are to help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you.

Esfuérzate, y esforcémonos por nuestro pueblo, y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios; y haga Jehová lo que bien le pareciere.

Be courageous, and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. May Yahweh do that which seems good to him.”

Acercóse luego Joab y el pueblo que tenía consigo, para pelear contra los Siros; mas ellos huyeron delante de él.

So Joab and the people who were with him came near to the front of the Syrians to the battle; and they fled before him.

Y los hijos de Ammón, viendo que los Siros habían huído, huyeron también ellos delante de Abisai su hermano, y entráronse en la ciudad. Entonces Joab se volvió á Jerusalem.

When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.

Y viendo los Siros que habían caído delante de Israel, enviaron embajadores, y trajeron á los Siros que estaban de la otra parte del río, cuyo capitán era Sophach, general del ejército de Adarezer.

When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they sent messengers, and called out the Syrians who were beyond the River, with Shophach the captain of the army of Hadadezer leading them.

Luego que fué dado aviso á David, juntó á todo Israel, y pasando el Jordán vino á ellos, y ordenó contra ellos su ejército. Y como David hubo ordenado su tropa contra ellos, pelearon con él los Siros.

David was told that; so he gathered all Israel together, passed over the Jordan, came to them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.

Mas el Siro huyó delante de Israel; y mató David de los Siros siete mil hombres de los carros, y cuarenta mil hombres de á pie: asimismo mató á Sophach, general del ejército.

The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed of the Syrian men seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and also killed Shophach the captain of the army.

Y viendo los Siros de Adarezer que habían caído delante de Israel, concertaron paz con David, y fueron sus siervos; y nunca más quiso el Siro ayudar á los hijos de Ammón.

When the servants of Hadadezer saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with David, and served him. The Syrians would not help the children of Ammon any more.

Capítulo 20

Y ACONTECIÓ á la vuelta del año, en el tiempo que suelen los reyes salir á la guerra, que Joab sacó las fuerzas del ejército, y destruyó la tierra de los hijos de Ammón, y vino y cercó á Rabba. Mas David estaba en Jerusalem: y Joab batió á Rabba, y destruyóla.

At the time of the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, Joab led out the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem. Joab struck Rabbah, and overthrew it.

Y tomó David la corona de su rey de encima de su cabeza, y hallóla de peso de un talento de oro, y había en ella piedras preciosas; y fué puesta sobre la cabeza de David. Y además de esto sacó de la ciudad un muy gran despojo.

David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it. It was set on David’s head, and he brought very much plunder out of the city.

Sacó también al pueblo que estaba en ella, y cortólos con sierras, y con trillos de hierro, y segures. Lo mismo hizo David á todas las ciudades de los hijos de Ammón. Y volvióse David con todo el pueblo á Jerusalem.

He brought out the people who were in it, and had them cut with saws, with iron picks, and with axes. David did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

Después de esto aconteció que se levantó guerra en Gezer con los Filisteos; é hirió Sibbecai Husathita á Sippai, del linaje de los gigantes; y fueron humillados.

After this, war arose at Gezer with the Philistines. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai, of the sons of the giant; and they were subdued.

Y volvióse á levantar guerra con los Filisteos; é hirió Elhanán hijo de Jair á Lahmi, hermano de Goliath Getheo, el asta de cuya lanza era como un enjullo de tejedores.

Again there was war with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.

Y volvió á haber guerra en Gath, donde hubo un hombre de grande estatura, el cual tenía seis dedos en pies y manos, en todos veinticuatro: y también era hijo de Rapha.

There was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had twenty-four fingers and toes, six on each hand, and six on each foot; and he also was born to the giant.

Denostó él á Israel, mas hiriólo Jonathán, hijo de Sima hermano de David.

When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David’s brother killed him.

Estos fueron hijos de Rapha en Gath, los cuales cayeron por mano de David y de sus siervos.

These were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Capítulo 21

MAS Satanás se levantó contra Israel, é incitó á David á que contase á Israel.

Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to take a census of Israel.

Y dijo David á Joab y á los príncipes del pueblo: Id, contad á Israel desde Beer-seba hasta Dan, y traedme el número de ellos para que yo lo sepa.

David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, “Go, count Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know how many there are.”

Y dijo Joab: Añada Jehová á su pueblo cien veces otros tantos. Rey señor mío, ¿no son todos estos siervos de mi señor? ¿para qué procura mi señor esto, que será pernicioso á Israel?

Joab said, “May Yahweh make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, aren’t they all my lord’s servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?”

Mas el mandamiento del rey pudo más que Joab. Salió por tanto Joab, y fué por todo Israel; y volvió á Jerusalem, y dió la cuenta del número del pueblo á David.

Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Therefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, then came to Jerusalem.

Y hallóse en todo Israel que sacaban espada, once veces cien mil; y de Judá cuatrocientos y setenta mil hombres que sacaban espada.

Joab gave up the sum of the census of the people to David. All those of Israel were one million one hundred thousand men who drew a sword; and in Judah were four hundred seventy thousand men who drew a sword.

Entre estos no fueron contados los Levitas, ni los hijos de Benjamín, porque Joab abominaba el mandamiento del rey.

But he didn’t count Levi and Benjamin among them; for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.

Asimismo desagradó este negocio á los ojos de Dios, é hirió á Israel.

God was displeased with this thing; therefore he struck Israel.

Y dijo David á Dios: He pecado gravemente en hacer esto: ruégote que hagas pasar la iniquidad de tu siervo, porque yo he hecho muy locamente.

David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing. But now put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.”

Y habló Jehová á Gad, vidente de David, diciendo:

Yahweh spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying,

Ve, y habla á David, y dile: Así ha dicho Jehová: Tres cosas te propongo; escoge de ellas una que yo haga contigo.

“Go and speak to David, saying, ‘Yahweh says, “I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.”’”

Y viniendo Gad á David, díjole: Así ha dicho Jehová:

So Gad came to David, and said to him, “Yahweh says, ‘Take your choice:

Escógete, ó tres años de hambre; ó ser por tres meses deshecho delante de tus enemigos, y que la espada de tus adversarios te alcance; ó por tres días la espada de Jehová y pestilencia en la tierra, y que el ángel de Jehová destruya en todo el término de Israel: mira pues qué he de responder al que me ha enviado.

either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you; or else three days the sword of Yahweh, even pestilence in the land, and Yahweh’s angel destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.’”

Entonces David dijo á Gad: Estoy en grande angustia: ruego que yo caiga en la mano de Jehová; porque sus misericordias son muchas en extremo, y que no caiga yo en manos de hombres.

David said to Gad, “I am in distress. Let me fall, I pray, into Yahweh’s hand; for his mercies are very great. Don’t let me fall into man’s hand.”

Así Jehová dió pestilencia en Israel, y cayeron de Israel setenta mil hombres.

So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell.

Y envió Jehová el ángel á Jerusalem para destruirla: pero estando él destruyendo, miró Jehová, y arrepintióse de aquel mal,

God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was about to destroy, Yahweh saw, and he relented of the disaster, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough. Now withdraw your hand.” Yahweh’s angel was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Y dijo al ángel que destruía: Basta ya; detén tu mano. Y el ángel de Jehová estaba junto á la era de Ornán Jebuseo.

David lifted up his eyes, and saw Yahweh’s angel standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.

Y alzando David sus ojos, vió al ángel de Jehová, que estaba entre el cielo y la tierra, teniendo un espada desnuda en su mano, extendida contra Jerusalem. Entonces David y los ancianos se postraron sobre sus rostros, cubiertos de sacos.

David said to God, “Isn’t it I who commanded the people to be counted? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O Yahweh my God, be against me, and against my father’s house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued.”

Y dijo David á Dios: ¿No soy yo el que hizo contar el pueblo? Yo mismo soy el que pequé, y ciertamente he hecho mal; mas estas ovejas, ¿qué han hecho? Jehová Dios mío, sea ahora tu mano contra mí, y contra la casa de mi padre, y no haya plaga en tu pueblo.

Then Yahweh’s angel commanded Gad to tell David that David should go up and raise an altar to Yahweh on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Y el ángel de Jehová ordenó á Gad que dijese á David, que subiese y construyese un altar á Jehová en la era de Ornán Jebuseo.

David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in Yahweh’s name.

Entonces David subió, conforme á la palabra de Gad que le había dicho en nombre de Jehová.

Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.

Y volviéndose Ornán vió al ángel; por lo que se escondieron cuatro hijos suyos que con él estaban. Y Ornán trillaba el trigo.

As David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.

Y viniendo David á Ornán, miró éste, y vió á David: y saliendo de la era, postróse en tierra á David.

Then David said to Ornan, “Give me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build an altar to Yahweh on it. You shall sell it to me for the full price, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.”

Entonces dijo David á Ornán: Dame este lugar de la era, en que edifique un altar á Jehová, y dámelo por su cabal precio, para que cese la plaga del pueblo.

Ornan said to David, “Take it for yourself, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes. Behold, I give the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal offering. I give it all.”

Y Ornán respondió á David: Tómalo para ti, y haga mi señor el rey lo que bien le pareciere: y aun los bueyes daré para el holocausto, y los trillos para leña, y trigo para el presente: yo lo doy todo.

King David said to Ornan, “No; but I will most certainly buy it for the full price. For I will not take that which is yours for Yahweh, nor offer a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”

Entonces el rey David dijo á Ornán: No, sino que efectivamente la compraré por su justo precio: porque no tomaré para Jehová lo que es tuyo, ni sacrificaré holocausto que nada me cueste.

So David gave to Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the place.

Y dió David á Ornán por el lugar seiscientos siclos de oro por peso.

David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on Yahweh; and he answered him from the sky by fire on the altar of burnt offering.

Y edificó allí David un altar á Jehová, en el que ofreció holocaustos y sacrificios pacíficos, é invocó á Jehová, el cual le respondió por fuego de los cielos en el altar del holocausto.

Then Yahweh commanded the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.

Y como Jehová habló al ángel, él volvió su espada á la vaina.

At that time, when David saw that Yahweh had answered him in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.

Entonces viendo David que Jehová le había oído en la era de Ornán Jebuseo, sacrificó allí.

For Yahweh’s tabernacle, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.

Y el tabernáculo de Jehová que Moisés había hecho en el desierto, y el altar del holocausto, estaban entonces en el alto de Gabaón: Mas David no pudo ir allá á consultar á Dios, porque estaba espantado á causa de la espada del ángel de Jehová.

But David couldn’t go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of Yahweh’s angel.

Capítulo 22

Y DIJO David: Esta es la casa de Jehová Dios, y este es el altar del holocausto para Israel.

Then David said, “This is the house of Yahweh God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”

Después mandó David que se juntasen los extranjeros que estaban en la tierra de Israel, y señaló de ellos canteros que labrasen piedras para edificar la casa de Dios.

David gave orders to gather together the foreigners who were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to cut dressed stones to build God’s house.

Asimismo aparejó David mucho hierro para la clavazón de las puertas, y para las junturas; y mucho metal sin peso, y madera de cedro sin cuenta.

David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the couplings; and brass in abundance without weight;

Porque los Sidonios y Tirios habían traído á David madera de cedro innumerable.

and cedar trees without number, for the Sidonians and the people of Tyre brought cedar trees in abundance to David.

Y dijo David: Salomón mi hijo es muchacho y tierno, y la casa que se ha de edificar á Jehová ha de ser magnífica por excelencia, para nombre y honra en todas las tierras; ahora pues yo le aparejaré lo necesario. Y preparó David antes de su muerte en grande abundancia.

David said, “Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for Yahweh must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David prepared abundantly before his death.

Llamó entonces David á Salomón su hijo, y mandóle que edificase casa á Jehová Dios de Israel.

Then he called for Solomon his son, and commanded him to build a house for Yahweh, the God of Israel.

Y dijo David á Salomón: Hijo mío, en mi corazón tuve el edificar templo al nombre de Jehová mi Dios.

David said to Solomon his son, “As for me, it was in my heart to build a house to the name of Yahweh my God.

Mas vino á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo: Tú has derramado mucha sangre, y has traído grandes guerras: no edificarás casa á mi nombre, porque has derramado mucha sangre en la tierra delante de mí:

But Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, ‘You have shed blood abundantly, and have made great wars. You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.

He aquí, un hijo te nacerá, el cual será varón de reposo, porque yo le daré quietud de todos sus enemigos en derredor; por tanto su nombre será Salomón; y yo daré paz y reposo sobre Israel en sus días:

Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of peace. I will give him rest from all his enemies all around; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.

El edificará casa á mi nombre, y él me será á mí por hijo, y yo le seré por padre; y afirmaré el trono de su reino sobre Israel para siempre.

He shall build a house for my name; and he will be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.’

Ahora pues, hijo mío, sea contigo Jehová, y seas prosperado, y edifiques casa á Jehová tu Dios, como él ha dicho de ti.

Now, my son, may Yahweh be with you and prosper you, and build the house of Yahweh your God, as he has spoken concerning you.

Y Jehová te dé entendimiento y prudencia, y él te dé mandamientos para Israel; y que tú guardes la ley de Jehová tu Dios.

May Yahweh give you discretion and understanding, and put you in charge of Israel; that so you may keep the law of Yahweh your God.

Entonces serás prosperado, si cuidares de poner por obra los estatutos y derechos que Jehová mandó á Moisés para Israel. Esfuérzate pues, y cobra ánimo; no temas, ni desmayes.

Then you will prosper, if you observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which Yahweh gave Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid, and don’t be dismayed.

He aquí, yo en mi estrechez he prevenido para la casa de Jehová cien mil talentos de oro, y un millar de millares de talentos de plata: no tiene peso el metal ni el hierro, porque es mucho. Asimismo he aprestado madera y piedra, á lo cual tú añadirás.

Now, behold, in my affliction I have prepared for Yahweh’s house one hundred thousand talents of gold, one million talents of silver, and brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance. I have also prepared timber and stone; and you may add to them.

Tú tienes contigo muchos oficiales, canteros, albañiles, y carpinteros, y todo hombre experto en toda obra.

There are also workmen with you in abundance, cutters and workers of stone and timber, and all kinds of men who are skillful in every kind of work;

Del oro, de la plata, del metal, y del hierro, no hay número. Levántate pues, y á la obra; que Jehová será contigo.

of the gold, the silver, the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise and be doing, and may Yahweh be with you.”

Asimismo mandó David á todos los principales de Israel que diesen ayuda á Salomón su hijo, diciendo:

David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,

¿No es con vosotros Jehová vuestro Dios, el cual os ha dado quietud de todas partes? porque él ha entregado en mi mano los moradores de la tierra, y la tierra ha sido sujetada delante de Jehová, y delante de su pueblo.

“Isn’t Yahweh your God with you? Hasn’t he given you rest on every side? For he has delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hand; and the land is subdued before Yahweh, and before his people.

Poned, pues, ahora vuestros corazones y vuestros ánimos en buscar á Jehová vuestro Dios; y levantaos, y edificad el santuario del Dios Jehová, para traer el arca del pacto de Jehová, y lo santos vasos de Dios, á la casa edificada al nombre de Jehová.

Now set your heart and your soul to follow Yahweh your God. Arise therefore, and build the sanctuary of Yahweh God, to bring the ark of Yahweh’s covenant and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for Yahweh’s name.”

Capítulo 23

SIENDO pues David ya viejo y harto de días, hizo á Salomón su hijo rey sobre Israel.

Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

Y juntando á todos los principales de Israel, y á los sacerdotes y Levitas,

He gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

Fueron contados los Levitas de treinta años arriba; y fué el número de ellos por sus cabezas, contados uno á uno, treinta y ocho mil.

The Levites were counted from thirty years old and upward; and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand.

De éstos, veinticuatro mil para dar prisa á la obra de la casa de Jehová; y gobernadores y jueces, seis mil;

David said, “Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of Yahweh’s house, six thousand were officers and judges,

Además cuatro mil porteros; y cuatro mil para alabar á Jehová, dijo David, con los instrumentos que he hecho para rendir alabanzas.

four thousand were doorkeepers, and four thousand praised Yahweh with the instruments which I made for giving praise.”

Y repartiólos David en órdenes conforme á los hijos de Leví, Gersón y Coath y Merari.

David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Los hijos de Gersón: Ladán, y Simi.

Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.

Los hijos de Ladán, tres: Jehiel el primero, después Zetham y Joel.

The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, Zetham, and Joel, three.

Los hijos de Simi, tres: Selomith, Haziel, y Arán. Estos fueron los príncipes de las familias de Ladán.

The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ households of Ladan.

Y los hijos de Simi: Jahath, Zinat, Jeus, y Berías. Estos cuatro fueron los hijos de Simi.

The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

Jahath era el primero, Zinat el segundo; mas Jeus y Berías no multiplicaron en hijos, por lo cual fueron contados por una familia.

Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah didn’t have many sons; therefore they became a fathers’ house in one reckoning.

Los hijos de Coath: Amram, Ishar, Hebrón, y Uzziel, ellos cuatro.

The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

Los hijos de Amram: Aarón y Moisés. Y Aarón fué apartado para ser dedicado á las más santas cosas, él y sus hijos para siempre, para que quemasen perfumes delante de Jehová, y le ministrasen, y bendijesen en su nombre, para siempre.

The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, forever, to burn incense before Yahweh, to minister to him, and to bless in his name, forever.

Y los hijos de Moisés, varón de Dios, fueron contados en la tribu de Leví.

But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.

Los hijos de Moisés fueron Gersón y Eliezer.

The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.

Hijo de Gersón fué Sebuel el primero.

The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.

E hijo de Eliezer fué Rehabía el primero. Y Eliezer no tuvo otros hijos; mas los hijos de Rehabía fueron muchos.

The sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

Hijo de Ishar fué Selomith el primero.

The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.

Los hijos de Hebrón: Jería el primero, Amarías el segundo, Jahaziel el tercero, y Jecamán el cuarto.

The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

Los hijos de Uzziel: Michâ el primero, é Isía el segundo.

The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.

Los hijos de Merari: Mahali y Musi. Los hijos de Mahali: Eleazar y Cis.

The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.

Y murió Eleazar sin hijos, mas tuvo hijas; y los hijos de Cis, sus hermanos, las tomaron por mujeres.

Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brothers the sons of Kish took them as wives.

Los hijos de Musi: Mahali, Eder y Jerimoth, ellos tres.

The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

Estos son los hijos de Leví en las familias de sus padres, cabeceras de familias en sus delineaciones, contados por sus nombres, por sus cabezas, los cuales hacían obra en el ministerio de la casa de Jehová, de veinte años arriba.

These were the sons of Levi after their fathers’ houses, even the heads of the fathers’ houses of those who were counted individually, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of Yahweh’s house, from twenty years old and upward.

Porque David dijo: Jehová Dios de Israel ha dado reposo á su pueblo Israel, y el habitar en Jerusalem para siempre.

For David said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people; and he dwells in Jerusalem forever.

Y también los Levitas no llevarán más el tabernáculo, y todos sus vasos para su ministerio.

Also the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its vessels for its service.”

Así que, conforme á las postreras palabras de David, fué la cuenta de los hijos de Leví de veinte años arriba.

For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were counted, from twenty years old and upward.

Y estaban bajo la mano de los hijos de Aarón, para ministrar en la casa de Jehová, en los atrios y en las cámaras, y en la purificación de toda cosa santificada, y en la demás obra del ministerio de la casa de Dios;

For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of Yahweh’s house, in the courts, and in the rooms, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of God’s house;

Asimismo para los panes de la proposición, y para la flor de la harina para el sacrificio, y para las hojuelas sin levadura, y para la fruta de sartén, y para lo tostado, y para toda medida y cuenta;

for the show bread also, and for the fine flour for a meal offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all measurements of quantity and size;

Y para que asistiesen cada mañana todos los días á confesar y alabar á Jehová, y asimismo á la tarde;

and to stand every morning to thank and praise Yahweh, and likewise in the evening;

Y para ofrecer todos los holocaustos á Jehová los sábados, nuevas lunas, y solemnidades, por la cuenta y forma que tenían, continuamente delante de Jehová.

and to offer all burnt offerings to Yahweh, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Yahweh;

Y para que tuviesen la guarda del tabernáculo del testimonio, y la guarda del santuario, y las órdenes de los hijos de Aarón sus hermanos, en el ministerio de la casa de Jehová.

and that they should keep the duty of the Tent of Meeting, the duty of the holy place, and the duty of the sons of Aaron their brothers, for the service of Yahweh’s house.

Capítulo 24

TAMBIÉN los hijos de Aarón tuvieron sus repartimientos. Los hijos de Aarón: Nadab, Abiú, Eleazar é Ithamar.

These were the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

Mas Nadab y Abiú murieron antes que su padre, y no tuvieron hijos: Eleazar é Ithamar tuvieron el sacerdocio.

But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest’s office.

Y David los repartió, siendo Sadoc de los hijos de Eleazar, y Ahimelech de los hijos de Ithamar, por sus turnos en su ministerio.

David with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, divided them according to their ordering in their service.

Y los hijos de Eleazar fueron hallados, cuanto á sus principales varones, muchos más que los hijos de Ithamar; y repartiéronlos así: De los hijos de Eleazar había dieciséis cabezas de familias paternas; y de los hijos de Ithamar por las familias de sus padres, ocho.

There were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar; and they were divided like this: of the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen, heads of fathers’ houses; and of the sons of Ithamar, according to their fathers’ houses, eight.

Repartiéronlos pues por suerte los unos con los otros: porque de los hijos de Eleazar y de los hijos de Ithamar hubo príncipes del santuario, y príncipes de la casa de Dios.

Thus were they divided impartially by drawing lots; for there were princes of the sanctuary, and princes of God, both of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar.

Y Semeías escriba, hijo de Nathanael, de los Levitas, escribiólos delante del rey y de los príncipes, y delante de Sadoc el sacerdote, y de Ahimelech hijo de Abiathar, y de los príncipes de las familias de los sacerdotes y Levitas: y adscribían una familia á Eleazar, y á Ithamar otra.

Shemaiah the son of Nethanel the scribe, who was of the Levites, wrote them in the presence of the king, the princes, Zadok the priest, Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and the heads of the fathers’ households of the priests and of the Levites; one fathers’ house being taken for Eleazar, and one taken for Ithamar.

Y la primera suerte salió por Joiarib, la segunda por Jedaía;

the ninth to Jeshua, the tenth to Shecaniah,

the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim,

La décimatercia por Uppa, la décimacuarta por Isebeab;

the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab,

La décimaquinta por Bilga, la décimasexta por Immer;

the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer,

La décimaséptima por Hezir, la décimaoctava por Aphses;

the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Happizzez,

La décimanona por Pethaía, la vigésima por Hezeciel;

the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel,

La vigésimaprima por Jachim, la vigésimasegunda por Hamul;

the twenty-first to Jachin, the twenty-second to Gamul,

La vigésimatercia por Delaía, la vigésimacuarta por Maazía.

the twenty-third to Delaiah, and the twenty-fourth to Maaziah.

Estos fueron contados en su ministerio, para que entrasen en la casa de Jehová, conforme á su ordenanza, bajo el mando de Aarón su padre, de la manera que le había mandado Jehová el Dios de Israel.

This was their ordering in their service, to come into Yahweh’s house according to the ordinance given to them by Aaron their father, as Yahweh, the God of Israel, had commanded him.

Y de los hijos de Leví que quedaron: Subael, de los hijos de Amram; y de los hijos de Subael, Jehedías.

Of the rest of the sons of Levi: of the sons of Amram, Shubael; of the sons of Shubael, Jehdeiah.

Y de los hijos de Rehabía, Isias el principal.

Of Rehabiah: of the sons of Rehabiah, Isshiah the chief.

De los Ishareos, Selemoth; é hijo de Selemoth, Jath.

Of the Izharites, Shelomoth; of the sons of Shelomoth, Jahath.

Y de los hijos de Hebrón: Jeria el primero, el segundo Amarías, el tercero Jahaziel, el cuarto Jecamán.

The sons of Hebron: Jeriah, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

The sons of Uzziel: Micah; of the sons of Micah, Shamir.

Hermano de Michâ, Isía; é hijo de Isía, Zachârías.

The brother of Micah: Isshiah; of the sons of Isshiah, Zechariah.

Los hijos de Merari: Mahali y Musi; hijo de Jaazia, Benno.

The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The son of Jaaziah: Beno.

Los hijos de Merari por Jaazia: Benno, y Soam, Zachûr é Ibri.

The sons of Merari: of Jaaziah, Beno, Shoham, Zaccur, and Ibri.

Y de Mahali, Eleazar, el cual no tuvo hijos.

Of Mahli: Eleazar, who had no sons.

Hijo de Cis, Jerameel.

Of Kish, the son of Kish: Jerahmeel.

Los hijos de Musi: Maheli, Eder y Jerimoth. Estos fueron los hijos de los Levitas conforme á las casas de sus familias.

The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites after their fathers’ houses.

Estos también echaron suertes, como sus hermanos los hijos de Aarón, delante del rey David, y de Sadoc y de Ahimelech, y de los príncipes de las familias de los sacerdotes y Levitas: el principal de los padres igualmente que el menor de sus hermanos.

These likewise cast lots even as their brothers the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers’ households of the priests and of the Levites; the fathers’ households of the chief even as those of his younger brother.

Capítulo 25

ASIMISMO David y los príncipes del ejército apartaron para el ministerio á los hijos de Asaph, y de Hemán, y de Jeduthún, los cuales profetizasen con arpas, salterios, y címbalos: y el número de ellos fué, de hombres idóneos para la obra de su ministerio respectivo:

Moreover, David and the captains of the army set apart for the service certain of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who were to prophesy with harps, with stringed instruments, and with cymbals. The number of those who did the work according to their service was:

De los hijos de Asaph: Zachûr, José, Methanías, y Asareela, hijos de Asaph, bajo la dirección de Asaph, el cual profetizaba á la orden del rey.

of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asharelah. The sons of Asaph were under the hand of Asaph, who prophesied at the order of the king.

De Jeduthún: los hijos de Jeduthún, Gedalías, Sesi, Jesaías, Hasabías, y Mathithías, y Simi: seis, bajo la mano de su padre Jeduthún, el cual profetizaba con arpa, para celebrar y alabar á Jehová.

Of Jeduthun; the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied in giving thanks and praising Yahweh with the harp.

De Hemán: los hijos de Hemán, Buccia, Mathanía, Uzziel, Sebuel, Jerimoth, Hananías, Hanani, Eliatha, Gidalthi, Romamti-ezer, Josbecasa, Mallothi, Othir, y Mahazioth.

Of Heman; the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.

Todos estos fueron hijos de Hemán, vidente del rey en palabras de Dios, para ensalzar el poder suyo: y dió Dios á Hemán catorce hijos y tres hijas.

All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

Y todos estos estaban bajo la dirección de su padre en la música, en la casa de Jehová, con címbalos, salterios y arpas, para el ministerio del templo de Dios, por disposición del rey acerca de Asaph, de Jeduthún, y de Hemán.

All these were under the hands of their father for song in Yahweh’s house, with cymbals, stringed instruments, and harps, for the service of God’s house; Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman being under the order of the king.

Y el número de ellos con sus hermanos instruídos en música de Jehová, todos los aptos, fué doscientos ochenta y ocho.

The number of them, with their brothers who were instructed in singing to Yahweh, even all who were skillful, was two hundred eighty-eight.

Y echaron suertes para los turnos del servicio, entrando el pequeño con el grande, lo mismo el maestro que el discípulo.

They cast lots for their offices, all alike, the small as well as the great, the teacher as well as the student.

Y la primera suerte salió por Asaph, á José: la segunda á Gedalías, quien con sus hermanos é hijos fueron doce;

Now the first lot came out for Asaph to Joseph; the second to Gedaliah, he and his brothers and sons were twelve;

La tercera á Zachûr, con sus hijos y sus hermanos, doce;

the third to Zaccur, his sons and his brothers, twelve;

La cuarta á Isri, con sus hijos y sus hermanos, doce;

the fourth to Izri, his sons and his brothers, twelve;

La quinta á Nethanías, con sus hijos y sus hermanos, doce;

the fifth to Nethaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve;

Capítulo 26

CUANTO á los repartimientos de los porteros: De los Coraitas: Meselemia hijo de Coré, de los hijos de Asaph.

For the divisions of the doorkeepers: of the Korahites, Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph.

Los hijos de Meselemia: Zachârías el primogénito, Jediael el segundo, Zebadías el tercero, Jatnael el cuarto;

Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth,

Elam el quinto, Johanam el sexto, Elioenai el séptimo.

Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, and Eliehoenai the seventh.

Los hijos de Obed-edom: Semeías el primogénito, Jozabad el segundo, Joab el tercero, el cuarto Sachâr, el quinto Nathanael;

Obed-Edom had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth,

El sexto Anmiel, el séptimo Issachâr, el octavo Peullethai: porque Dios había bendecido á Obed-edom.

Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, and Peullethai the eighth; for God blessed him.

También de Semeías su hijo nacieron hijos que fueron señores sobre la casa de sus padres; porque eran varones muy valerosos.

Sons were also born to Shemaiah his son, who ruled over the house of their father; for they were mighty men of valor.

Los hijos de Semeías: Othni, Raphael, Obed, Elzabad, y sus hermanos, hombres esforzados; asimismo Eliú, y Samachîas.

The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad, whose brothers were valiant men, Elihu, and Semachiah.

Todos estos de los hijos de Obed-edom: ellos con sus hijos y sus hermanos, hombres robustos y fuertes para el ministerio; sesenta y dos, de Obed-edom.

All these were of the sons of Obed-Edom: they and their sons and their brothers, able men in strength for the service; sixty-two of Obed-Edom.

Y los hijos de Meselemia y sus hermanos, dieciocho hombres valientes.

Meshelemiah had sons and brothers, valiant men, eighteen.

De Hosa, de los hijos de Merari: Simri el principal, (aunque no era el primogénito, mas su padre lo puso para que fuese cabeza;)

Also Hosah, of the children of Merari, had sons: Shimri the chief (for though he was not the firstborn, yet his father made him chief),

El segundo Hilcías, el tercero Tebelías, el cuarto Zachârías: todos los hijos de Hosa y sus hermanos fueron trece.

Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, and Zechariah the fourth: all the sons and brothers of Hosah were thirteen.

Entre estos se hizo la distribución de los porteros, alternando los principales de los varones en la guardia con sus hermanos, para servir en la casa de Jehová.

Of these were the divisions of the doorkeepers, even of the chief men, having offices like their brothers, to minister in Yahweh’s house.

Y echaron suertes, el pequeño con el grande, por las casas de sus padres, para cada puerta.

They cast lots, the small as well as the great, according to their fathers’ houses, for every gate.

Y cayó la suerte al oriente á Selemía. Y á Zachârías su hijo, consejero entendido, metieron en las suertes: y salió la suerte suya al norte.

The lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counselor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward.

Y por Obed-edom, al mediodía; y por sus hijos, la casa de la consulta.

To Obed-Edom southward; and to his sons the storehouse.

Por Suppim y Hosa al occidente, con la puerta de Sallechêt al camino de la subida, guardia contra guardia.

To Shuppim and Hosah westward, by the gate of Shallecheth, at the causeway that goes up, watchman opposite watchman.

Al oriente seis Levitas, al norte cuatro de día; al mediodía cuatro de día; y á la casa de la consulta, de dos en dos.

Eastward were six Levites, northward four a day, southward four a day, and for the storehouse two and two.

En la cámara de los vasos al occidente, cuatro al camino, y dos en la cámara.

For Parbar westward, four at the causeway, and two at Parbar.

Estos son los repartimientos de los porteros, hijos de los Coraitas, y de los hijos de Merari.

These were the divisions of the doorkeepers; of the sons of the Korahites, and of the sons of Merari.

Y de los Levitas, Achîas tenía cargo de los tesoros de la casa de Dios, y de los tesoros de las cosas santificadas.

Of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasures of God’s house and over the treasures of the dedicated things.

Cuanto á los hijos de Ladán, hijos de Gersón: de Ladán, los príncipes de las familias de Ladán fueron Gersón, y Jehieli.

The sons of Ladan, the sons of the Gershonites belonging to Ladan, the heads of the fathers’ households belonging to Ladan the Gershonite: Jehieli.

Los hijos de Jehieli, Zethán y Joel su hermano, tuvieron cargo de los tesoros de la casa de Jehová.

The sons of Jehieli: Zetham, and Joel his brother, over the treasures of Yahweh’s house.

Acerca de los Amramitas, de los Isharitas, de los Hebronitas, y de los Uzzielitas,

Of the Amramites, of the Izharites, of the Hebronites, of the Uzzielites:

Sebuel hijo de Gersón, hijo de Moisés, era principal sobre los tesoros.

and Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was ruler over the treasures.

En orden á su hermano Eliezer, hijo de éste era Rehabía, hijo de éste Isaías, hijo de éste Joram, hijo de éste Zichri, del que fué hijo Selomith.

His brothers: of Eliezer, Rehabiah his son, and Jeshaiah his son, and Joram his son, and Zichri his son, and Shelomoth his son.

Este Selomith y sus hermanos tenían cargo de todos los tesoros de todas las cosas santificadas, que había consagrado el rey David, y los príncipes de las familias, y los capitanes de millares y de cientos, y los jefes del ejército;

This Shelomoth and his brothers were over all the treasures of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the heads of the fathers’ households, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the army, had dedicated.

De lo que habían consagrado de las guerras y de los despojos, para reparar la casa de Jehová.

They dedicated some of the plunder won in battles to repair Yahweh’s house.

Asimismo todas las cosas que había consagrado Samuel vidente, y Saúl hijo de Cis, y Abner hijo de Ner, y Joab hijo de Sarvia: y todo lo que cualquiera consagraba, estaba bajo la mano de Selomith y de sus hermanos.

All that Samuel the seer, and Saul the son of Kish, and Abner the son of Ner, and Joab the son of Zeruiah, had dedicated, whoever had dedicated anything, it was under the hand of Shelomoth, and of his brothers.

De los Isharitas, Chenanía y sus hijos eran gobernadores y jueces sobre Israel en las obras de fuera.

Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were for the outward business over Israel, for officers and judges.

De los Hebronitas, Hasabías y sus hermanos, hombres de vigor, mil y setecientos, gobernaban á Israel de la otra parte del Jordán, al occidente, en toda la obra de Jehová, y en el servicio del rey.

Of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brothers, men of valor, one thousand seven hundred, had the oversight of Israel beyond the Jordan westward, for all the business of Yahweh, and for the service of the king.

De los Hebronitas, Jerías era el principal entre los Hebronitas repartidos en sus linajes por sus familias. En el año cuarenta del reinado de David se registraron, y halláronse entre ellos fuertes y vigorosos en Jazer de Galaad.

Of the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even of the Hebronites, according to their generations by fathers’ households. They were sought for in the fortieth year of the reign of David, and mighty men of valor were found among them at Jazer of Gilead.

Y sus hermanos, hombres valientes, eran dos mil y setecientos, cabezas de familias, los cuales el rey David constituyó sobre los Rubenitas, Gaditas, y sobre la media tribu de Manasés, para todas las cosas de Dios, y los negocios del rey.

His brothers, men of valor, were two thousand seven hundred, heads of fathers’ households, whom king David made overseers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of the Manassites, for every matter pertaining to God, and for the affairs of the king.

Capítulo 27

Y LOS hijos de Israel según su número, á saber, príncipes de familias, tribunos, centuriones y oficiales de los que servían al rey en todos los negocios de las divisiones que entraban y salían cada mes en todos los meses del año, eran en cada división veinte y cuatro mil.

Now the children of Israel after their number, the heads of fathers’ households and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king, in any matter of the divisions which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year—of every division were twenty-four thousand.

Sobre la primera división del primer mes estaba Jasobam hijo de Zabdiel; y había en su división veinte y cuatro mil.

Over the first division for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

De los hijos de Phares fué él jefe de todos los capitanes de las compañías del primer mes.

He was of the children of Perez, the chief of all the captains of the army for the first month.

Sobre la división del segundo mes estaba Dodai Ahohita: y Micloth era mayor general en su división, en la que también había veinte y cuatro mil.

Over the division of the second month was Dodai the Ahohite, and his division; and Mikloth the ruler: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

El jefe de la tercera división para el tercer mes era Benaías, hijo de Joiada sumo sacerdote; y en su división había veinte y cuatro mil.

The third captain of the army for the third month was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada the priest, chief: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

Este Benaías era valiente entre los treinta y sobre los treinta; y en su división estaba Amisabad su hijo.

This is that Benaiah who was the mighty man of the thirty, and over the thirty: and of his division was Ammizabad his son.

El cuarto jefe para el cuarto mes era Asael hermano de Joab, y después de él Zebadías su hijo; y en su división había veinte y cuatro mil.

The fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

El quinto jefe para el quinto mes era Sambuth Izrita: y en su división había veinte y cuatro mil.

The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

El sexto para el sexto mes era Hira hijo de Icces, de Tecoa; y en su división veinte y cuatro mil.

The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

El séptimo para el séptimo mes era Helles Pelonita, de los hijos de Ephraim; y en su división veinte y cuatro mil.

The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

El octavo para el octavo mes era Sibbecai Husatita, de Zarahi; y en su división veinte y cuatro mil.

The eighth captain for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite, of the Zerahites: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

El noveno para el noveno mes era Abiezer Anathothita, de los Benjamitas; y en su división veinte y cuatro mil.

The ninth captain for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamites: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

El décimo para el décimo mes era Maharai Nethophathita, de Zarahi; y en su división veinte y cuatro mil.

The tenth captain for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zerahites: and in his division were Twenty-four thousand.

El undécimo para el undécimo mes era Benaías Piratonita, de los hijos de Ephraim; y en su división veinte y cuatro mil.

The eleventh captain for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

El duodécimo para el duodécimo mes era Heldai Nethophathita, de Othniel; y en su división veinte y cuatro mil.

The twelfth captain for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

Asimismo sobre las tribus de Israel: el jefe de los Rubenitas era Eliezer hijo de Zichri; de los Simeonitas, Sephatías, hijo de Maachâ:

Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: of the Reubenites was Eliezer the son of Zichri the ruler; of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maacah;

De los Levitas, Hasabías hijo de Camuel; de los Aaronitas, Sadoc;

of Levi, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel; of Aaron, Zadok;

De Judá, Eliú, uno de los hermanos de David; de los de Issachâr, Omri hijo de Michâel;

Y de Dan, Azarael hijo de Jeroam. Estos fueron los jefes de las tribus de Israel.

of Dan, Azarel the son of Jeroham. These were the captains of the tribes of Israel.

Y no tomó David el número de los que eran de veinte años abajo, por cuanto Jehová había dicho que él había de multiplicar á Israel como las estrellas del cielo.

But David didn’t take the number of them from twenty years old and under, because Yahweh had said he would increase Israel like the stars of the sky.

Joab hijo de Sarvia había comenzado á contar, mas no acabó, pues por esto vino la ira sobre Israel: y así el número no fué puesto en el registro de las crónicas del rey David.

Joab the son of Zeruiah began to take a census, but didn’t finish; and wrath came on Israel for this. The number wasn’t put into the account in the chronicles of king David.

Y Azmaveth hijo de Adiel tenía cargo de los tesoros del rey; y de los tesoros de los campos, y de las ciudades, y de las aldeas y castillos, Jonathán hijo de Uzzías;

Over the king’s treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the treasures in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the towers, was Jonathan the son of Uzziah;

Y de los que trabajaban en la labranza de las tierras, Ezri hijo de Chêlud;

Over those who did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub;

Y de las viñas Simi Ramathita; y del fruto de las viñas para las bodegas, Zabdías Siphmita;

and over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite; and over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite;

Y de los olivares é higuerales que había en las campiñas, Baal-hanan Gederita; y de los almacenes del aceite, Joas;

and over the olive trees and the sycamore trees that were in the lowland was Baal Hanan the Gederite; and over the cellars of oil was Joash;

De las vacas que pastaban en Sarón, Sitrai Saronita; y de las vacas que estaban en los valles, Saphat hijo de Adlai;

and over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite; and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai;

Y de los camellos, Obil Ismaelita; y de las asnas, Jedías Meronothita;

and over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite; and over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite; and over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite.

Y de las ovejas, Jaziz Agareno. Todos estos eran superintendentes de la hacienda del rey David.

All these were the rulers of the property which was king David’s.

Y Jonathán, tío de David, era consejero, varón prudente y escriba; y Jehiel hijo de Hacmoni estaba con los hijos del rey.

Also Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, a man of understanding, and a scribe; and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons.

Y también Achitophel era consejero del rey; y Husai Arachîta amigo del rey.

Ahithophel was the king’s counselor: and Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.

Después de Achitophel era Joiada hijo de Benaías, y Abiathar. Y Joab era el general del ejército del rey.

After Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar. Joab was the captain of the king’s army.

Capítulo 28

Y JUNTÓ David en Jerusalem á todos los principales de Israel, los príncipes de las tribus, y los jefes de las divisiones que servían al rey, los tribunos y centuriones, con los superintendentes de toda la hacienda y posesión del rey, y sus hijos, con los eunucos, los poderosos, y todos sus hombres valientes.

David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, the captains of the companies who served the king by division, the captains of thousands, the captains of hundreds, and the rulers over all the substance and possessions of the king and of his sons, with the officers and the mighty men, even all the mighty men of valor, to Jerusalem.

Y levantándose el rey David, puesto en pie dijo: Oidme, hermanos míos, y pueblo mío. Yo tenía en propósito edificar una casa, para que en ella reposara el arca del pacto de Jehová, y para el estrado de los pies de nuestro Dios; y había ya aprestado todo para edificar.

Then David the king stood up on his feet, and said, “Hear me, my brothers, and my people! As for me, it was in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, and for the footstool of our God; and I had prepared for the building.

Mas Dios me dijo: Tú no edificarás casa á mi nombre: porque eres hombre de guerra, y has derramado mucha sangre.

But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war, and have shed blood.’

Empero Jehová el Dios de Israel me eligió de toda la casa de mi padre, para que perpetuamente fuese rey sobre Israel: porque á Judá escogió por caudillo, y de la casa de Judá la familia de mi padre; y de entre los hijos de mi padre agradóse de mí para ponerme por rey sobre todo Israel;

However Yahweh, the God of Israel, chose me out of all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever. For he has chosen Judah to be prince; and in the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel.

Y de todos mis hijos (porque Jehová me ha dado muchos hijos,) eligió á mi hijo Salomón para que se siente en el trono del reino de Jehová sobre Israel.

Of all my sons (for Yahweh has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of Yahweh’s kingdom over Israel.

Y me ha dicho: Salomón tu hijo, él edificará mi casa y mis atrios: porque á éste me he escogido por hijo, y yo le seré á él por padre.

He said to me, ‘Solomon, your son, shall build my house and my courts; for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

Asimismo yo confirmaré su reino para siempre, si él se esforzare á poner por obra mis mandamientos y mis juicios, como aqueste día.

I will establish his kingdom forever if he continues to do my commandments and my ordinances, as it is today.’

Ahora pues, delante de lo ojos de todo Israel, congregación de Jehová, y en oídos de nuestro Dios, guardad é inquirid todos los preceptos de Jehová vuestro Dios, para que poseáis la buena tierra, y la dejéis por heredad á vuestros hijos después de vosotros perpetuamente.

Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, Yahweh’s assembly, and in the audience of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of Yahweh your God; that you may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you forever.

Y tú, Salomón, hijo mío, conoce al Dios de tu padre, y sírvele con corazón perfecto, y con ánimo voluntario; porque Jehová escudriña los corazones de todos, y entiende toda imaginación de los pensamientos. Si tú le buscares, lo hallarás; mas si lo dejares, él te desechará para siempre.

You, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for Yahweh searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

Mira, pues, ahora que Jehová te ha elegido para que edifiques casa para santuario: esfuérzate, y hazla.

Take heed now; for Yahweh has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong, and do it.”

Y David dió á Salomón su hijo la traza del pórtico, y de sus casas, y de sus oficinas, y de sus salas, y de sus recámaras, y de la casa del propiciatorio.

Then David gave to Solomon his son the plans for the porch of the temple, for its houses, for its treasuries, for its upper rooms, for its inner rooms, for the place of the mercy seat;

Asimismo la traza de todas las cosas que tenía en su voluntad, para los atrios de la casa de Jehová, y para todas las cámaras en derredor, para los tesoros de la casa de Dios, y para los tesoros de las cosas santificadas:

and the plans of all that he had by the Spirit, for the courts of Yahweh’s house, for all the surrounding rooms, for the treasuries of God’s house, and for the treasuries of the dedicated things;

También para los órdenes de los sacerdotes y de los Levitas, y para toda la obra del ministerio de la casa de Jehová, y para todos los vasos del ministerio de la casa de Jehová.

also for the divisions of the priests and the Levites, for all the work of the service of Yahweh’s house, and for all the vessels of service in Yahweh’s house;

Y dió oro por peso para lo de oro, para todos los vasos de cada servicio: y plata por peso para todos los vasos, para todos los vasos de cada servicio.

of gold by weight for the gold, for all vessels of every kind of service; for all the vessels of silver by weight, for all vessels of every kind of service;

Oro por peso para los candeleros de oro, y para sus candilejas; por peso el oro para cada candelero y sus candilejas: y para los candeleros de plata, plata por peso para el candelero y sus candilejas, conforme al servicio de cada candelero.

by weight also for the lamp stands of gold, and for its lamps, of gold, by weight for every lamp stand and for its lamps; and for the lamp stands of silver, by weight for every lamp stand and for its lamps, according to the use of every lamp stand;

Asimismo dió oro por peso para las mesas de la proposición, para cada mesa: del mismo modo plata para las mesas de plata:

and the gold by weight for the tables of show bread, for every table; and silver for the tables of silver;

También oro puro para los garfios y para las palanganas, y para los incensarios, y para los tazones de oro, para cada tazón por peso; y para los tazones de plata, por peso para cada tazón:

and the forks, the basins, and the cups, of pure gold; and for the golden bowls by weight for every bowl; and for the silver bowls by weight for every bowl;

Además, oro puro por peso para el altar del perfume, y para el á manera de carro de los querubines de oro, que con las alas extendidas cubrían el arca del pacto de Jehová.

and for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the plans for the chariot, and the cherubim that spread out and cover the ark of Yahweh’s covenant.

Todas estas cosas, dijo David, se me han representado por la mano de Jehová que me hizo entender todas las obras del diseño.

“All this”, said David, “I have been made to understand in writing from Yahweh’s hand, even all the works of this pattern.”

Dijo más David á Salomón su hijo: Anímate y esfuérzate, y ponlo por obra; no temas, ni desmayes, porque el Dios Jehová, mi Dios, será contigo: él no te dejará, ni te desamparará, hasta que acabes toda la obra para el servicio de la casa de Jehová.

David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do it. Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed; for Yahweh God, even my God, is with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of Yahweh’s house is finished.

He aquí los órdenes de los sacerdotes y de los Levitas, para todo el ministerio de la casa de Dios, serán contigo en toda la obra: asimismo todos los voluntarios é inteligentes para cualquiera especie de industria; y los príncipes, y todo el pueblo para ejecutar todas tus órdenes.

Behold, there are the divisions of the priests and the Levites, for all the service of God’s house. Every willing man who has skill, for any kind of service, shall be with you in all kinds of work. Also the captains and all the people will be entirely at your command.”

Capítulo 29

DESPUÉS dijo el rey David á toda la asamblea: A solo Salomón mi hijo ha elegido Dios; él es joven y tierno, y la obra grande; porque la casa no es para hombre, sino para Jehová Dios.

David the king said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for Yahweh God.

Yo empero con todas mis fuerzas he preparado para la casa de mi Dios, oro para las cosas de oro, y plata para las cosas de plata, y metal para las de metal, y hierro para las de hierro, y madera para las de madera, y piedras oniquinas, y piedras preciosas, y piedras negras, y piedras de diversos colores, y toda suerte de piedras preciosas, y piedras de mármol en abundancia.

Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for the things of gold, the silver for the things of silver, the brass for the things of brass, iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood; also onyx stones, stones to be set, stones for inlaid work, of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.

A más de esto, por cuanto tengo mi gusto en la casa de mi Dios, yo guardo en mi tesoro particular oro y plata que, además de todas las cosas que he aprestado para la casa del santuario, he dado para la casa de mi Dios;

In addition, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, since I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, I give it to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house,

A saber, tres mil talentos de oro, de oro de Ophir, y siete mil talentos de plata afinada para cubrir las paredes de las casas:

even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, with which to overlay the walls of the houses;

Oro pues para las cosas de oro, y plata para las cosas de plata, y para toda la obra de manos de los oficiales. ¿Y quién quiere hacer hoy ofrenda á Jehová?

of gold for the things of gold, and of silver for the things of silver, and for all kinds of work to be made by the hands of artisans. Who then offers willingly to consecrate himself today to Yahweh?”

Entonces los príncipes de las familias, y los príncipes de las tribus de Israel, tribunos y centuriones, con los superintendentes de la hacienda del rey, ofrecieron de su voluntad;

Then the princes of the fathers’ households, and the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers over the king’s work, offered willingly;

Y dieron para el servicio de la casa de Dios cinco mil talentos de oro y diez mil sueldos, y diez mil talentos de plata, y dieciocho mil talentos de metal, y cinco mil talentos de hierro.

and they gave for the service of God’s house of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand darics, of silver ten thousand talents, of brass eighteen thousand talents, and of iron one hundred thousand talents.

Y todo el que se halló con piedras preciosas, diólas para el tesoro de la casa de Jehová, en mano de Jehiel Gersonita.

People with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of Yahweh’s house, under the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

Y holgóse el pueblo de haber contribuído de su voluntad; porque con entero corazón ofrecieron á Jehová voluntariamente.

Then the people rejoiced, because they offered willingly, because with a perfect heart they offered willingly to Yahweh; and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.

Asimismo holgóse mucho el rey David, y bendijo á Jehová delante de toda la congregación; y dijo David: Bendito seas tú, oh Jehová, Dios de Israel nuestro padre, de uno á otro siglo.

Therefore David blessed Yahweh before all the assembly; and David said, “You are blessed, Yahweh, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever.

Tuya es, oh Jehová, la magnificencia, y el poder, y la gloria, la victoria, y el honor; porque todas las cosas que están en los cielos y en la tierra son tuyas. Tuyo, oh Jehová, es el reino, y la altura sobre todos los que están por cabeza.

Yours, Yahweh, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty! For all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, Yahweh, and you are exalted as head above all.

Las riquezas y la gloria están delante de ti, y tú señoreas á todos: y en tu mano está la potencia y la fortaleza, y en tu mano la grandeza y fuerza de todas las cosas.

Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all! In your hand is power and might! It is in your hand to make great, and to give strength to all!

Ahora pues, Dios nuestro, nosotros te confesamos, y loamos tu glorioso nombre.

Now therefore, our God, we thank you, and praise your glorious name.

Porque ¿quién soy yo, y quién es mi pueblo, para que pudiésemos ofrecer de nuestra voluntad cosas semejantes? porque todo es tuyo, y lo recibido de tu mano te damos.

But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.

Porque nosotros, extranjeros y advenedizos somos delante de ti, como todos nuestros padres; y nuestros días cual sombra sobre la tierra, y no dan espera.

For we are strangers before you, and foreigners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no remaining.

Oh Jehová Dios nuestro, toda esta abundancia que hemos aprestado para edificar casa á tu santo nombre, de tu mano es, y todo es tuyo.

Yahweh our God, all this store that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and is all your own.

Yo sé, Dios mío, que tú escudriñas los corazones, y que la rectitud te agrada: por eso yo con rectitud de mi corazón voluntariamente te he ofrecido todo esto, y ahora he visto con alegría que tu pueblo, que aquí se ha hallado ahora, ha dado para ti espontáneamente.

I know also, my God, that you try the heart, and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things. Now I have seen with joy your people, who are present here, offer willingly to you.

Jehová, Dios de Abraham, de Isaac, y de Israel, nuestros padres, conserva perpetuamente esta voluntad del corazón de tu pueblo, y encamina su corazón á ti.

Yahweh, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this desire forever in the thoughts of the heart of your people, and prepare their heart for you;

Asimismo da á mi hijo Salomón corazón perfecto, para que guarde tus mandamientos, tus testimonios y tus estatutos, y para que haga todas las cosas, y te edifique la casa para la cual yo he hecho el apresto.

and give to Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for which I have made provision.”

Después dijo David á toda la congregación: Bendecid ahora á Jehová vuestro Dios. Entonces toda la congregación bendijo á Jehová Dios de sus padres, é inclinándose adoraron delante de Jehová, y del rey.

Then David said to all the assembly, “Now bless Yahweh your God!” All the assembly blessed Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads and prostrated themselves before Yahweh and the king.

Y sacrificaron víctimas á Jehová, y ofrecieron á Jehová holocaustos el día siguiente, mil becerros, mil carneros, mil corderos con sus libaciones, y muchos sacrificios por todo Israel.

They sacrificed sacrifices to Yahweh, and offered burnt offerings to Yahweh, on the next day after that day, even one thousand bulls, one thousand rams, and one thousand lambs, with their drink offerings and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel,

Y comieron y bebieron delante de Jehová aquel día con gran gozo; y dieron la segunda vez la investidura del reino á Salomón hijo de David, y ungiéronlo á Jehová por príncipe, y á Sadoc por sacerdote.

and ate and drank before Yahweh on that day with great gladness. They made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him before Yahweh to be prince, and Zadok to be priest.

Y sentóse Salomón por rey en el trono de Jehová en lugar de David su padre, y fué prosperado; y obedecióle todo Israel.

Then Solomon sat on the throne of Yahweh as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.

Y todos los príncipes y poderosos, y todos los hijos del rey David, prestaron homenaje al rey Salomón.

All the princes, the mighty men, and also all of the sons of king David submitted themselves to Solomon the king.

Y Jehová engrandeció en extremo á Salomón á los ojos de todo Israel, y dióle gloria del reino, cual ningún rey la tuvo antes de él en Israel.

Yahweh magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and gave to him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

Así reinó David hijo de Isaí sobre todo Israel.

Now David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.

Y el tiempo que reinó sobre Israel fué cuarenta años. Siete años reinó en Hebrón, y treinta y tres reinó en Jerusalem.

The time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

Y murió en buena vejez, lleno de días, de riquezas, y de gloria: y reinó en su lugar Salomón su hijo.

He died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor; and Solomon his son reigned in his place.

Y los hechos del rey David, primeros y postreros, están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de Samuel vidente, y en las crónicas del profeta Nathán, y en las crónicas de Gad vidente,

Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Samuel the seer, and in the history of Nathan the prophet, and in the history of Gad the seer,

Con todo lo relativo á su reinado, y su poder, y los tiempos que pasaron sobre él, y sobre Israel, y sobre todos los reinos de aquellas tierras.

with all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.
