The conquest and division of the land of Canaan

The narrative of Israel's entry into Canaan under Joshua, the conquest of Jericho and other cities, and the territorial allotment among the twelve tribes. It closes with Joshua's covenant renewal at Shechem.

Capítulo 1

Y ACONTECIÓ después de la muerte de Moisés siervo de Jehová, que Jehová habló á Josué hijo de Nun, ministro de Moisés, diciendo:

Now it came to pass after the death of Moses the servant of Jehovah, that Jehovah spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses` minister, saying,

Mi siervo Moisés es muerto: levántate pues ahora, y pasa este Jordán, tú y todo este pueblo, á la tierra que yo les doy á los hijos de Israel.

Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

Yo os he entregado, como lo había dicho á Moisés, todo lugar que pisare la planta de vuestro pie.

Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, to you have I given it, as I spake unto Moses.

Desde el desierto y este Líbano hasta el gran río Eufrates, toda la tierra de los Hetheos hasta la gran mar del poniente del sol, será vuestro término.

From the wilderness, and this Lebanon, even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your border.

Nadie te podrá hacer frente en todos los días de tu vida: como yo fuí con Moisés, seré contigo; no te dejaré, ni te desampararé.

There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life. as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee; I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Esfuérzate y sé valiente: porque tú repartirás á este pueblo por heredad la tierra, de la cual juré á sus padres que la daría á ellos.

Be strong and of good courage; for thou shalt cause this people to inherit the land which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

Solamente te esfuerces, y seas muy valiente, para cuidar de hacer conforme á toda la ley que mi siervo Moisés te mandó: no te apartes de ella ni á diestra ni á siniestra, para que seas prosperado en todas las cosas que emprendieres.

Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest have good success whithersoever thou goest.

El libro de aquesta ley nunca se apartará de tu boca: antes de día y de noche meditarás en él, para que guardes y hagas conforme á todo lo que en él está escrito: porque entonces harás prosperar tu camino, y todo te saldrá bien.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate thereon day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Mira que te mando que te esfuerces y seas valiente: no temas ni desmayes, porque Jehová tu Dios será contigo en donde quiera que fueres.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not affrighted, neither be thou dismayed: for Jehovah thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Y Josué mandó á los oficiales del pueblo, diciendo:

Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

Pasad por medio del campo, y mandad al pueblo, diciendo: Preveníos de comida; porque dentro de tres días pasaréis el Jordán, para que entréis á poseer la tierra que Jehová vuestro Dios os da para que la poseáis.

Pass through the midst of the camp, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye are to pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which Jehovah your God giveth you to possess it.

También habló Josué á los Rubenitas y Gaditas, y á la media tribu de Manasés, diciendo:

And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,

Acordaos de la palabra que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, os mandó diciendo: Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dado reposo, y os ha dado esta tierra.

Remember the word which Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, saying, Jehovah your God giveth you rest, and will give you this land.

Vuestras mujeres y vuestros niños y vuestras bestias, quedarán en la tierra que Moisés os ha dado de esta parte del Jordán; mas vosotros, todos los valientes y fuertes, pasaréis armados delante de vuestros hermanos, y les ayudaréis;

Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall abide in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan; but ye shall pass over before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valor, and shall help them;

Hasta tanto que Jehová haya dado reposo á vuestros hermanos como á vosotros, y que ellos también posean la tierra que Jehová vuestro Dios les da: y después volveréis vosotros á la tierra de vuestra herencia, la cual Moisés siervo de Jehová os ha dado, de esta parte del Jordán hacia donde nace el sol; y la poseeréis.

until Jehovah have given your brethren rest, as [he hath given] you, and they also have possessed the land which Jehovah your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrising.

Entonces respondieron á Josué, diciendo: Nosotros haremos todas las cosas que nos has mandado, é iremos adonde quiera que nos mandares.

And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou hast commanded us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us we will go.

De la manera que obedecimos á Moisés en todas las cosas, así te obedeceremos á ti: solamente Jehová tu Dios sea contigo, como fué con Moisés.

According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only Jehovah thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

Cualquiera que fuere rebelde á tu mandamiento, y no obedeciere á tus palabras en todas las cosas que le mandares, que muera; solamente que te esfuerces, y seas valiente.

Whosoever he be that shall rebel against thy commandment, and shall not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of good courage.

Capítulo 2

Y JOSUÉ, hijo de Nun, envió desde Sittim dos espías secretamente, diciéndoles: Andad, reconoced la tierra, y á Jericó. Los cuales fueron, y entráronse en casa de una mujer ramera que se llamaba Rahab, y posaron allí.

And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men as spies secretly, saying, Go, view the land, and Jericho. And they went and came into the house of a harlot whose name was Rahab, and lay there.

Y fué dado aviso al rey de Jericó, diciendo: He aquí que hombres de los hijos de Israel han venido aquí esta noche á espiar la tierra.

And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to-night of the children of Israel to search out the land.

Entonces el rey de Jericó envió á decir á Rahab: Saca fuera los hombres que han venido á ti, y han entrado en tu casa; porque han venido á espiar toda la tierra.

And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, that are entered into thy house; for they are come to search out all the land.

Mas la mujer había tomado los dos hombres, y los había escondido; y dijo: Verdad que hombres vinieron á mí, mas no supe de dónde eran:

And the woman took the two men, and hid them; and she said, Yea, the men came unto me, but I knew not whence they were:

Y al cerrarse la puerta, siendo ya oscuro, esos hombres se salieron, y no sé á dónde se han ido: seguidlos apriesa, que los alcanzaréis.

and it came to pass about the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out; whither the men went I know not: pursue after them quickly; for ye will overtake them.

Mas ella los había hecho subir al terrado, y habíalos escondido entre tascos de lino que en aquel terrado tenía puestos.

But she had brought them up to the roof, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.

Y los hombres fueron tras ellos por el camino del Jordán, hasta los vados: y la puerta fué cerrada después que salieron los que tras ellos iban.

And the men pursued after them the way to the Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they that pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

Mas antes que ellos durmiesen, ella subió á ellos al terrado, y díjoles:

And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;

Sé que Jehová os ha dado esta tierra; porque el temor de vosotros ha caído sobre nosotros, y todos los moradores del país están desmayados por causa de vosotros;

and she said unto the men, I know that Jehovah hath given you the land, and that the fear of you is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.

Porque hemos oído que Jehová hizo secar las aguas del mar Bermejo delante de vosotros, cuando salisteis de Egipto, y lo que habéis hecho á los dos reyes de los Amorrheos que estaban de la parte allá del Jordán, á Sehón y á Og, á los cuales habéis destruído.

For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, unto Sihon and to Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

Oyendo esto, ha desmayado nuestro corazón; ni ha quedado más espíritu en alguno por causa de vosotros: porque Jehová vuestro Dios es Dios arriba en los cielos y abajo en la tierra.

And as soon as we had heard it, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Jehovah your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.

Ruégoos pues ahora, me juréis por Jehová, que como he hecho misericordia con vosotros, así la haréis vosotros con la casa de mi padre, de lo cual me daréis una señal cierta;

Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by Jehovah, since I have dealt kindly with you, that ye also will deal kindly with my father`s house, and give me a true token;

Y que salvaréis la vida á mi padre y á mi madre, y á mis hermanos y hermanas, y á todo lo que es suyo; y que libraréis nuestras vidas de la muerte.

and that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death.

Y ellos le respondieron: Nuestra alma por vosotros hasta la muerte, si no denunciareis este nuestro negocio: y cuando Jehová nos hubiere dado la tierra, nosotros haremos contigo misericordia y verdad.

And the men said unto her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business; and it shall be, when Jehovah giveth us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

Entonces ella los hizo descender con una cuerda por la ventana; porque su casa estaba á la pared del muro, y ella vivía en el muro.

Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the side of the wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

Y díjoles: Marchaos al monte, porque los que fueron tras vosotros no os encuentren; y estad escondidos allí tres días, hasta que los que os siguen hayan vuelto; y después os iréis vuestro camino.

And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers light upon you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.

Y ellos le dijeron: Nosotros seremos desobligados de este juramento con que nos has conjurado.

And the men said unto her, We will be guiltless of this thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

He aquí, cuando nosotros entráremos en la tierra, tú atarás este cordón de grana á la ventana por la cual nos descolgaste: y tú juntarás en tu casa tu padre y tu madre, tus hermanos y toda la familia de tu padre.

Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt gather unto thee into the house thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father`s household.

Cualquiera que saliere fuera de las puertas de tu casa, su sangre será sobre su cabeza, y nosotros sin culpa. Mas cualquiera que se estuviere en casa contigo, su sangre será sobre nuestra cabeza, si mano le tocare.

And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we shall be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.

Y si tú denunciares este nuestro negocio, nosotros seremos desobligados de este tu juramento con que nos has juramentado.

But if thou utter this our business, then we shall be guiltless of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

Y ella respondió: Sea así como habéis dicho. Luego los despidió, y se fueron: y ella ató el cordón de grana á la ventana.

And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.

Y caminando ellos, llegaron al monte, y estuvieron allí tres días, hasta que los que los seguían se hubiesen vuelto: y los que los siguieron, buscaron por todo el camino, mas no los hallaron.

And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.

Y tornándose los dos varones, descendieron del monte, y pasaron, y vinieron á Josué hijo de Nun, y contáronle todas las cosas que les habían acontecido.

Then the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun; and they told him all that had befallen them.

Y dijeron á Josué: Jehová ha entregado toda la tierra en nuestras manos; y también todos los moradores del país están desmayados delante de nosotros.

And they said unto Joshua, Truly Jehovah hath delivered into our hands all the land; and moreover all the inhabitants of the land do melt away before us.

Capítulo 3

Y LEVANTÓSE Josué de mañana, y partieron de Sittim, y vinieron hasta el Jordán, él y todos los hijos de Israel, y reposaron allí antes que pasasen.

And Joshua rose up early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel; and they lodged there before they passed over.

Y pasados tres días, los oficiales atravesaron por medio del campo,

And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the midst of the camp;

Y mandaron al pueblo, diciendo: Cuando viereis el arca del pacto de Jehová vuestro Dios, y los sacerdotes y Levitas que la llevan, vosotros partiréis de vuestro lugar, y marcharéis en pos de ella.

and they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

Empero entre vosotros y ella haya distancia como de la medida de dos mil codos: y no os acercaréis á ella, á fin de que sepáis el camino por donde habéis de ir: por cuanto vosotros no habéis pasado antes de ahora por este camino.

Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go; for ye have not passed this way heretofore.

Y Josué dijo al pueblo: Santificaos, porque Jehová hará mañana entre vosotros maravillas.

And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves; for tomorrow Jehovah will do wonders among you.

Y habló Josué á los sacerdotes, diciendo: Tomad el arca del pacto, y pasad delante del pueblo. Y ellos tomaron el arca del pacto, y fueron delante del pueblo.

And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

Entonces Jehová dijo á Josué: Desde aqueste día comenzaré á hacerte grande delante de los ojos de todo Israel, para que entiendan que como fuí con Moisés, así seré contigo.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.

Tú, pues, mandarás á los sacerdotes que llevan el arca del pacto, diciendo: Cuando hubiereis entrado hasta el borde del agua del Jordán, pararéis en el Jordán.

And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, ye shall stand still in the Jordan.

Y Josué dijo á los hijos de Israel: Llegaos acá, y escuchad las palabras de Jehová vuestro Dios.

And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of Jehovah your God.

Y añadió Josué: En esto conoceréis que el Dios viviente está en medio de vosotros, y que él echará de delante de vosotros al Cananeo, y al Heteo, y al Heveo, y al Pherezeo, y al Gergeseo, y al Amorrheo, y al Jebuseo.

And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Hivite, and the Perizzite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Jebusite.

He aquí, el arca del pacto del Señoreador de toda la tierra pasa el Jordán delante de vosotros.

Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into the Jordan.

Tomad, pues, ahora doce hombres de las tribus de Israel, de cada tribu uno.

Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, for every tribe a man.

Y cuando las plantas de los pies de los sacerdotes que llevan el arca de Jehová Señoreador de toda la tierra, fueren asentadas sobre las aguas del Jordán, las aguas del Jordán se partirán: porque las aguas que vienen de arriba se detendrán en un montón.

And it shall come to pass, when the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of Jehovah, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, even the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand in one heap.

Y aconteció, que partiendo el pueblo de sus tiendas para pasar el Jordán, y los sacerdotes delante del pueblo llevando el arca del pacto,

And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over the Jordan, the priests that bare the ark of the covenant being before the people;

Cuando los que llevaban el arca entraron en el Jordán, así como los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca fueron mojados á la orilla del agua, (porque el Jordán suele reverter sobre todos sus bordes todo el tiempo de la siega,)

and when they that bare the ark were come unto the Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (for the Jordan overfloweth all its banks all the time of harvest,)

Las aguas que venían de arriba, se pararon como en un montón bien lejos de la ciudad de Adam, que está al lado de Sarethan; y las que descendían á la mar de los llanos, al mar Salado, se acabaron y fueron partidas; y el pueblo pasó en derecho de Jericó.

that the waters which came down from above stood, and rose up in one heap, a great way off, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those that went down toward the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, were wholly cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

Mas los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto de Jehová, estuvieron en seco, firmes en medio del Jordán, hasta que todo el pueblo hubo acabado de pasar el Jordán; y todo Israel pasó en seco.

And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan; and all Israel passed over on dry ground, until all the nation were passed clean over the Jordan.

Capítulo 4

Y CUANDO toda la gente hubo acabado de pasar el Jordán, Jehová habló á Josué, diciendo:

And it came to pass, when all the nation were clean passed over the Jordan, that Jehovah spake unto Joshua, saying,

Tomad del pueblo doce hombres, de cada tribu uno,

Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

Y mandadles, diciendo: Tomaos de aquí del medio del Jordán, del lugar donde están firmes los pies de los sacerdotes, doce piedras, las cuales pasaréis con vosotros, y las asentaréis en el alojamiento donde habéis de tener la noche.

and command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests` feet stood firm, twelve stones, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging-place, where ye shall lodge this night.

Entonces Josué llamó á los doce hombres, los cuales había él ordenado de entre los hijos de Israel, de cada tribu uno;

Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:

Y díjoles Josué: Pasad delante del arca de Jehová vuestro Dios al medio del Jordán; y cada uno de vosotros tome una piedra sobre su hombro, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel;

and Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of Jehovah your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take you up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;

Para que esto sea señal entre vosotros; y cuando vuestros hijos preguntaren á sus padres mañana, diciendo: ¿Qué os significan estas piedras?

that this may be a sign among you, that, when your children ask in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

Les responderéis: Que las aguas del Jordán fueron partidas delante del arca del pacto de Jehová; cuando ella pasó el Jordán, las aguas del Jordán se partieron: y estas piedras serán por memoria á los hijos de Israel para siempre.

then ye shall say unto them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah; when it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

Y los hijos de Israel lo hicieron así como Josué les mandó: que levantaron doce piedras del medio del Jordán, como Jehová lo había dicho á Josué, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel, y pasáronlas consigo al alojamiento, y las asentaron allí.

And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as Jehovah spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

Josué también levantó doce piedras en medio del Jordán, en el lugar donde estuvieron los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto; y han estado allí hasta hoy.

And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests that bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.

Y los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca se pararon en medio del Jordán, hasta tanto que se acabó todo lo que Jehová había mandado á Josué que hablase al pueblo, conforme á todas las cosas que Moisés había á Josué mandado: y el pueblo se dió priesa y pasó.

For the priests that bare the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan, until everything was finished that Jehovah commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.

Y cuando todo el pueblo acabó de pasar, pasó también el arca de Jehová, y los sacerdotes, en presencia del pueblo.

And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of Jehovah passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

También los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad, y la media tribu de Manasés, pasaron armados delante de los hijos de Israel, según Moisés les había dicho:

And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:

Como cuarenta mil hombres armados á punto pasaron hacia la campiña de Jericó delante de Jehová á la guerra.

about forty thousand ready armed for war passed over before Jehovah unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.

En aquel día Jehová engrandeció á Josué en ojos de todo Israel: y temiéronle, como habían temido á Moisés, todos los días de su vida.

On that day Jehovah magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

Y Jehová habló á Josué, diciendo:

And Jehovah spake unto Joshua, saying,

Manda á los sacerdotes que llevan el arca del testimonio, que suban del Jordán.

Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.

Y Josué mandó á los sacerdotes, diciendo: Subid del Jordán.

Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of the Jordan.

Y aconteció que como los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto de Jehová, subieron del medio del Jordán, y las plantas de los pies de los sacerdotes estuvieron en seco, las aguas del Jordán se volvieron á su lugar, corriendo como antes sobre todos sus bordes.

And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah were come up out of the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests` feet were lifted up unto the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned unto their place, and went over all its banks, as aforetime.

Y el pueblo subió del Jordán el diez del mes primero, y asentaron el campo en Gilgal, al lado oriental de Jericó.

And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho.

Y Josué erigió en Gilgal las doce piedras que habían traído del Jordán.

And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, did Joshua set up in Gilgal.

Y habló á los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Cuando mañana preguntaren vuestros hijos á sus padres, y dijeren: ¿Qué os significan estas piedras?

And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

Declararéis á vuestros hijos, diciendo: Israel pasó en seco por este Jordán.

Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

Porque Jehová vuestro Dios secó las aguas del Jordán delante de vosotros, hasta que habíais pasado, á la manera que Jehová vuestro Dios lo había hecho en el mar Bermejo, al cual secó delante de nosotros hasta que pasamos:

For Jehovah your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as Jehovah your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were passed over;

Para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan la mano de Jehová, que es fuerte; para que temáis á Jehová vuestro Dios todos los días.

that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of Jehovah, that it is mighty; that ye may fear Jehovah your God for ever.

Capítulo 5

Y CUANDO todos los reyes de los Amorrheos, que estaban de la otra parte del Jordán al occidente, y todos los reyes de los Cananeos, que estaban cerca de la mar, oyeron como Jehová había secado las aguas del Jordán delante de los hijos de Israel hasta que hubieron pasado, desfalleció su corazón, y no hubo más espíritu en ellos delante de los hijos de Israel.

And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, that were by the sea, heard how that Jehovah had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

En aquel tiempo Jehová dijo á Josué: Hazte cuchillos afilados, y vuelve á circuncidar la segunda vez á los hijos de Israel.

At that time Jehovah said unto Joshua, Make thee knives of flint, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

Y Josué se hizo cuchillos afilados, y circuncidó á los hijos de Israel en el monte de los prepucios.

And Joshua made him knives of lint, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

Esta es la causa por la cual Josué los circuncidó: todo el pueblo que había salido de Egipto, los varones, todos los hombres de guerra, habían muerto en el desierto por el camino, después que salieron de Egipto.

And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: all the people that came forth out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came forth out of Egypt.

Porque todos los del pueblo que habían salido, estaban circuncidados: mas todo el pueblo que había nacido en el desierto por el camino, después que salieron de Egipto, no estaban circuncidados.

For all the people that came out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, they had not circumcised.

Porque los hijos de Israel anduvieron por el desierto cuarenta años, hasta que toda la gente de los hombres de guerra que habían salido de Egipto, fué consumida, por cuanto no obedecieron á la voz de Jehová; por lo cual Jehová les juró que no les dejaría ver la tierra, de la cual Jehová había jurado á sus padres que nos la daría, tierra que fluye leche y miel.

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the nation, even the men of war that came forth out of Egypt, were consumed, because they hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah: unto whom Jehovah sware that he would not let them see the land which Jehovah sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Y los hijos de ellos, que él había hecho suceder en su lugar, Josué los circuncidó; pues eran incircuncisos, porque no habían sido circuncidados por el camino.

And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them did Joshua circumcise: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

Y cuando hubieron acabado de circuncidar toda la gente, quedáronse en el mismo lugar en el campo, hasta que sanaron.

And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the nation, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

Y Jehová dijo á Josué: Hoy he quitado de vosotros el oprobio de Egipto: por lo cual el nombre de aquel lugar fué llamado Gilgal, hasta hoy.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, unto this day.

Y los hijos de Israel asentaron el campo en Gilgal, y celebraron la pascua á los catorce días del mes, por la tarde, en los llanos de Jericó.

And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal; and they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

Y al otro día de la pascua comieron del fruto de la tierra los panes sin levadura, y en el mismo día espigas nuevas tostadas.

And they did eat of the produce of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes and parched grain, in the selfsame day.

Y el maná cesó el día siguiente, desde que comenzaron á comer del fruto de la tierra: y los hijos de Israel nunca más tuvieron maná, sino que comieron de los frutos de la tierra de Canaán aquel año.

And the manna ceased on the morrow, after they had eaten of the produce of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

Y estando Josué cerca de Jericó, alzó sus ojos, y vió un varón que estaba delante de él, el cual tenía una espada desnuda en su mano. Y Josué yéndose hacia él, le dijo: ¿Eres de los nuestros, ó de nuestros enemigos?

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

Y él respondió: No; mas Príncipe del ejército de Jehová, ahora he venido. Entonces Josué postrándose sobre su rostro en tierra le adoró; y díjole: ¿Qué dice mi Señor á su siervo?

And he said, Nay; but [as] prince of the host of Jehovah am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?

Y el Príncipe del ejército de Jehová respondió á Josué: Quita tus zapatos de tus pies; porque el lugar donde estás es santo. Y Josué lo hizo así.

And the prince of Jehovah`s host said unto Joshua, Put off thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

Capítulo 6

EMPERO Jericó estaba cerrada, bien cerrada, á causa de los hijos de Israel: nadie entraba, ni salía.

Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.

Mas Jehová dijo á Josué: Mira, yo he entregado en tu mano á Jericó y á su rey, con sus varones de guerra.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thy hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valor.

Cercaréis pues la ciudad todos los hombres de guerra, yendo alrededor de la ciudad una vez: y esto haréis seis días.

And ye shall compass the city, all the men of war, going about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

Y siete sacerdotes llevarán siete bocinas de cuernos de carneros delante del arca; y al séptimo día daréis siete vueltas á la ciudad, y los sacerdotes tocarán las bocinas.

And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams` horns before the ark: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.

Y cuando tocaren prolongadamente el cuerno de carnero, así que oyereis el sonido de la bocina, todo el pueblo gritará á gran voz, y el muro de la ciudad caerá debajo de sí: entonces el pueblo subirá cada uno en derecho de sí.

And it shall be, that, when they make a long blast with the ram`s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him.

Y llamando Josué hijo de Nun á los sacerdotes, les dijo: Llevad el arca del pacto, y siete sacerdotes lleven bocinas de cuernos de carneros delante del arca de Jehová.

And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams` horns before the ark of Jehovah.

Y dijo al pueblo: Pasad, y rodead la ciudad; y los que están armados pasarán delante del arca de Jehová.

And they said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let the armed men pass on before the ark of Jehovah.

Y así que Josué hubo hablado al pueblo, los siete sacerdotes, llevando las siete bocinas de cuernos de carneros, pasaron delante del arca de Jehová, y tocaron las bocinas: y el arca del pacto de Jehová los seguía.

And it was so, that, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams` horns before Jehovah passed on, and blew the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of Jehovah followed them.

Y los armados iban delante de los sacerdotes que tocaban las bocinas, y la gente reunida iba detrás del arca, andando y tocando bocinas.

And the armed men went before the priests that blew the trumpets, and the rearward went after the ark, [the priests] blowing the trumpets as they went.

Y Josué mandó al pueblo, diciendo: Vosotros no daréis grita, ni se oirá vuestra voz, ni saldrá palabra de vuestra boca, hasta el día que yo os diga: Gritad: entonces daréis grita.

And Joshua commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.

El arca pues de Jehová dió una vuelta alrededor de la ciudad, y viniéronse al real, en el cual tuvieron la noche.

So he caused the ark of Jehovah to compass the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.

Y Josué se levantó de mañana, y los sacerdotes tomaron el arca de Jehová.

And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of Jehovah.

Y los siete sacerdotes, llevando las siete bocinas de cuernos de carneros, fueron delante del arca de Jehová, andando siempre y tocando las bocinas; y los armados iban delante de ellos, y la gente reunida iba detrás del arca de Jehová, andando y tocando las bocinas.

And the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams` horns before the ark of Jehovah went on continually, and blew the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; and the rearward came after the ark of Jehovah, [the priests] blowing the trumpets as they went.

Así dieron otra vuelta á la ciudad el segundo día, y volviéronse al real: de esta manera hicieron por seis días.

And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.

Y al séptimo día levantáronse cuando subía el alba, y dieron vuelta á la ciudad de la misma manera siete veces: solamente este día dieron vuelta alrededor de ella siete veces.

And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early at the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on the day they compassed the city seven times.

Y como los sacerdotes hubieron tocado las bocinas la séptima vez, Josué dijo al pueblo: Dad grita, porque Jehová os ha entregado la ciudad.

And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for Jehovah hath given you the city.

Mas la ciudad será anatema á Jehová, ella con todas las cosas que están en ella: solamente Rahab la ramera vivirá, con todos los que estuvieren en casa con ella, por cuanto escondió los mensajeros que enviamos.

And the city shall be devoted, even it and all that is therein, to Jehovah: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

Empero guardaos vosotros del anatema, que ni toquéis, ni toméis alguna cosa del anatema, porque no hagáis anatema el campo de Israel, y lo turbéis.

But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest when ye have devoted it, ye take of the devoted thing; so would ye make the camp of Israel accursed, and trouble it.

Mas toda la plata, y el oro, y vasos de metal y de hierro, sea consagrado á Jehová, y venga al tesoro de Jehová.

But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are holy unto Jehovah: they shall come into the treasury of Jehovah.

Entonces el pueblo dió grita, y los sacerdotes tocaron las bocinas: y aconteció que como el pueblo hubo oído el sonido de la bocina, dió el pueblo grita con gran vocerío, y el muro cayó á plomo. El pueblo subió luego á la ciudad, cada uno en derecho de sí, y tomáronla.

So the people shouted, and [the priests] blew the trumpets; and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

Y destruyeron todo lo que en la ciudad había; hombres y mujeres, mozos y viejos, hasta los bueyes, y ovejas, y asnos, á filo de espada.

And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

Mas Josué dijo á los dos hombres que habían reconocido la tierra: Entrad en casa de la mujer ramera, y haced salir de allá á la mujer, y á todo lo que fuere suyo, como lo jurasteis.

And Joshua said unto the two men that had spied out the land, Go into the harlot`s house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.

Y los mancebos espías entraron, y sacaron á Rahab, y á su padre, y á su madre, y á sus hermanos, y todo lo que era suyo; y también sacaron á toda su parentela, y pusiéronlos fuera del campo de Israel.

And the young men the spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; all her kindred also they brought out; and they set them without the camp of Israel.

Y consumieron con fuego la ciudad, y todo lo que en ella había: solamente pusieron en el tesoro de la casa de Jehová la plata, y el oro, y los vasos de metal y de hierro.

And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein; only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of Jehovah.

Mas Josué salvó la vida á Rahab la ramera, y á la casa de su padre, y á todo lo que ella tenía: y habitó ella entre los Israelitas hasta hoy; por cuanto escondió los mensajeros que Josué envió á reconocer á Jericó.

But Rahab the harlot, and her father`s household, and all that she had, did Joshua save alive; and she dwelt in the midst of Israel unto this day, because she hid the messengers, whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

Y en aquel tiempo Josué les juramentó diciendo: Maldito delante de Jehová el hombre que se levantare y reedificare esta ciudad de Jericó. En su primogénito eche sus cimientos, y en su menor asiente sus puertas.

And Joshua charged them with an oath at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before Jehovah, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: with the loss of his first-born shall he lay the foundation thereof, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

Fué pues Jehová con Josué, y su nombre se divulgó por toda la tierra.

So Jehovah was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land.

Capítulo 7

EMPERO los hijos de Israel cometieron prevaricación en el anatema: porque Achân, hijo de Carmi, hijo de Zabdi, hijo de Zera, de la tribu de Judá, tomó del anatema; y la ira de Jehová se encendió contra los hijos de Israel.

But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted thing; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the devoted thing: and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against the children of Israel.

Y Josué envió hombres desde Jericó á Hai, que estaba junto á Beth-aven hacia el oriente de Beth-el; y hablóles diciendo: Subid, y reconoced la tierra. Y ellos subieron, y reconocieron á Hai.

And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Beth-el, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and spy out the land. And the men went up and spied out Ai.

Y volviendo á Josué, dijéronle: No suba todo el pueblo, mas suban como dos mil ó como tres mil hombres, y tomarán á Hai: no fatigues á todo el pueblo allí, porque son pocos.

And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; make not all the people to toil thither; for they are but few.

Y subieron allá del pueblo como tres mil hombres, los cuales huyeron delante de los de Hai.

So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.

Y los de Hai hirieron de ellos como treinta y seis hombres, y siguiéronlos desde la puerta hasta Sebarim, y los rompieron en la bajada: por lo que se disolvió el corazón del pueblo, y vino á ser como agua.

And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men; and they chased them [from] before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them at the descent; and the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.

Entonces Josué rompió sus vestidos, y postróse en tierra sobre su rostro delante del arca de Jehová hasta la tarde, él y los ancianos de Israel; y echaron polvo sobre sus cabezas.

And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of Jehovah until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust upon their heads.

Y Josué dijo: ¡Ah, Señor Jehová! ¿Por qué hiciste pasar á este pueblo el Jordán, para entregarnos en las manos de los Amorrheos, que nos destruyan? ¡Ojalá nos hubiéramos quedado de la otra parte del Jordán!

And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord Jehovah, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over the Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? would that we had been content and dwelt beyond the Jordan!

¡Ay Señor! ¿qué diré, ya que Israel ha vuelto las espaldas delante de sus enemigos?

Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after that Israel hath turned their backs before their enemies!

Porque los Cananeos y todos los moradores de la tierra oirán, y nos cercarán, y raerán nuestro nombre de sobre la tierra: entonces ¿qué harás tú á tu grande nombre?

For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will compass us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do for thy great name?

Y Jehová dijo á Josué: Levántate; ¿por qué te postras así sobre tu rostro?

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore art thou thus fallen upon thy face?

Israel ha pecado, y aun han quebrantado mi pacto que yo les había mandado; pues aun han tomado del anatema, y hasta han hurtado, y también han mentido, y aun lo han guardado entre sus enseres.

Israel hath sinned; yea, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: yea, they have even taken of the devoted thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also; and they have even put it among their own stuff.

Por esto los hijos de Israel no podrán estar delante de sus enemigos, sino que delante de sus enemigos volverán las espaldas; por cuanto han venido á ser anatema: ni seré más con vosotros, si no destruyereis el anatema de en medio de vosotros.

Therefore the children of Israel cannot stand before their enemies; they turn their backs before their enemies, because they are become accursed: I will not be with you any more, except ye destroy the devoted thing from among you.

Levántate, santifica al pueblo, y di: Santificaos para mañana; porque Jehová el Dios de Israel dice así: Anatema hay en medio de ti, Israel; no podrás estar delante de tus enemigos, hasta tanto que hayáis quitado el anatema de en medio de vosotros.

Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: for thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, There is a devoted thing in the midst of thee, O Israel; thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the devoted thing from among you.

Os allegaréis, pues, mañana por vuestras tribus; y la tribu que Jehová tomare, se allegará por sus familias; y la familia que Jehová tomare, se allegará por sus casas; y la casa que Jehová tomare, allegaráse por los varones;

In the morning therefore ye shall be brought near by your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which Jehovah taketh shall come near by families; and the family which Jehovah shall take shall come near by households; and the household which Jehovah shall take shall come near man by man.

Y el que fuere cogido en el anatema, será quemado á fuego, él y todo lo que tiene, por cuanto ha quebrantado el pacto de Jehová, y ha cometido maldad en Israel.

And it shall be, that he that is taken with the devoted thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath; because he hath transgressed the covenant of Jehovah, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.

Josué, pues, levantándose de mañana, hizo allegar á Israel por sus tribus; y fué tomada la tribu de Judá;

So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel near by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:

Y haciendo allegar la tribu de Judá, fué tomada la familia de los de Zera; haciendo luego allegar la familia de los de Zera por los varones, fué tomado Zabdi;

and he brought near the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zerahites: and he brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:

E hizo allegar su casa por los varones, y fué tomado Achân, hijo de Carmi, hijo de Zabdi, hijo de Zera, de la tribu de Judá.

and he brought near his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

Entonces Josué dijo á Achân: Hijo mío, da gloria ahora á Jehová el Dios de Israel, y dale alabanza, y declárame ahora lo que has hecho; no me lo encubras.

And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to Jehovah, the God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.

Y Achân respondió á Josué, diciendo: Verdaderamente yo he pecado contra Jehová el Dios de Israel, y he hecho así y así:

And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Of a truth I have sinned against Jehovah, the God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:

Que vi entre los despojos un manto babilónico muy bueno, y doscientos siclos de plata, y un changote de oro de peso de cincuenta siclos; lo cual codicié, y tomé: y he aquí que está escondido debajo de tierra en el medio de mi tienda, y el dinero debajo de ello.

when I saw among the spoil a goodly Babylonish mantle, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.

Josué entonces envió mensajeros, los cuales fueron corriendo á la tienda; y he aquí estaba escondido en su tienda, y el dinero debajo de ello:

So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.

Y tomándolo de en medio de la tienda, trajéronlo á Josué y á todos los hijos de Israel, y pusiéronlo delante de Jehová.

And they took them from the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel; and they laid them down before Jehovah.

Entonces Josué, y todo Israel con él, tomó á Achân hijo de Zera, y el dinero, y el manto, y el changote de oro, y sus hijos, y sus hijas, y sus bueyes, y sus asnos, y sus ovejas, y su tienda, y todo cuanto tenía, y lleváronlo todo al valle de Achôr;

And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the mantle, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them up unto the valley of Achor.

Y dijo Josué: ¿Por qué nos has turbado? Túrbete Jehová en este día. Y todos los Israelitas los apedrearon, y los quemaron á fuego, después de apedrearlos con piedras;

And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? Jehovah shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones; and they burned them with fire, and stoned them with stones.

Y levantaron sobre él un gran montón de piedras, hasta hoy. Y Jehová se tornó de la ira de su furor. Y por esto fué llamado aquel lugar el Valle de Achôr, hasta hoy.

And they raised over him a great heap of stones, unto this day; and Jehovah turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.

Capítulo 8

Y JEHOVÁ dijo á Josué: No temas, ni desmayes; toma contigo toda la gente de guerra, y levántate y sube á Hai. Mira, yo he entregado en tu mano al rey de Hai, y á su pueblo, á su ciudad, y á su tierra.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land;

Y harás á Hai y á su rey como hiciste á Jericó y á su rey: sólo que sus despojos y sus bestias tomaréis para vosotros. Pondrás, pues, emboscadas á la ciudad detrás de ella.

And thou shalt do to Ai and her king as thou didst unto Jericho and her king: only the spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto yourselves: set thee an ambush for the city behind it.

Y levantóse Josué, y toda la gente de guerra, para subir contra Hai: y escogió Josué treinta mil hombres fuertes, los cuales envió de noche.

So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor, and sent them forth by night.

Y mandóles, diciendo: Mirad, pondréis emboscada á la ciudad detrás de ella: no os alejaréis mucho de la ciudad, y estaréis todos apercibidos.

And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city; go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready:

Y yo, y todo el pueblo que está conmigo, nos acercaremos á la ciudad; y cuando saldrán ellos contra nosotros, como hicieron antes, huiremos delante de ellos.

and I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city. And it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them;

Y ellos saldrán tras nosotros, hasta que los arranquemos de la ciudad; porque ellos dirán: Huyen de nosotros como la primera vez. Huiremos, pues, delante de ellos.

and they will come out after us, till we have drawn them away from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first: so we will flee before them;

Entonces vosotros os levantaréis de la emboscada, y os echaréis sobre la ciudad; pues Jehová vuestro Dios la entregará en vuestras manos.

and ye shall rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city: for Jehovah your God will deliver it into your hand.

Y cuando la hubiereis tomado, le prenderéis fuego. Haréis conforme á la palabra de Jehová. Mirad que os lo he mandado.

And it shall be, when ye have seized upon the city, that ye shall set the city on fire; according to the word of Jehovah shall ye do: see, I have commanded you.

Entonces Josué los envió; y ellos se fueron á la emboscada, y pusiéronse entre Beth-el y Hai, al occidente de Hai: y Josué se quedó aquella noche en medio del pueblo.

And Joshua sent them forth; and they went to the ambushment, and abode between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of Ai: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.

Y levantándose Josué muy de mañana, revistó al pueblo, y subió él, con los ancianos de Israel, delante del pueblo contra Hai.

And Joshua arose up early in the morning, and mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.

Y toda la gente de guerra que con él estaba, subió, y acercóse, y llegaron delante de la ciudad, y asentaron el campo á la parte del norte de Hai: y el valle estaba entre él y Hai.

And all the people, [even] the [men of] war that were with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and encamped on the north side of Ai: now there was a valley between him and Ai.

Y tomó como cinco mil hombres, y púsolos en emboscada entre Beth-el y Hai, á la parte occidental de la ciudad.

And he took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of the city.

Y el pueblo, todo el campo que estaba á la parte del norte de la ciudad, colocado ya cerca, y su emboscada al occidente de la ciudad, vínose Josué aquella noche al medio del valle.

So they set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their liers-in-wait that were on the west of the city; and Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.

Lo cual como viese el rey de Hai, levantóse prestamente de mañana, y salió con la gente de la ciudad contra Israel, él y todo su pueblo, para combatir por el llano al tiempo señalado, no sabiendo que le estaba puesta emboscada á las espaldas de la ciudad.

And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, before the Arabah; but he knew not that there was an ambush against him behind the city.

Entonces Josué y todo Israel, haciéndose vencidos, huyeron delante de ellos por el camino del desierto.

And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.

Y todo el pueblo que estaba en Hai se juntó para seguirlos: y siguieron á Josué, siendo así arrancados de la ciudad.

And all the people that were in the city were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.

Y no quedó hombre en Hai y Beth-el, que no saliera tras de Israel; y por seguir á Israel dejaron la ciudad abierta.

And there was not a man left in Ai or Beth-el, that went not out after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.

Entonces Jehová dijo á Josué: Levanta la lanza que tienes en tu mano hacia Hai, porque yo la entregaré en tu mano. Y Josué levantó hacia la ciudad la lanza que en su mano tenía.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Stretch out the javelin that is in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thy hand. And Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.

Y levantándose prestamente de su lugar los que estaban en la emboscada, corrieron luego que él alzó su mano, y vinieron á la ciudad, y la tomaron, y apresuráronse á prenderle fuego.

And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and entered into the city, and took it; and they hasted and set the city on fire.

Y como los de la ciudad miraron atrás, observaron, y he aquí el humo de la ciudad que subía al cielo, y no tuvieron arbitrio para huir ni á una parte ni á otra: y el pueblo que iba huyendo hacia el desierto, se volvió contra los que le seguían.

And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.

Josué y todo Israel, viendo que los de la emboscada habían tomado la ciudad, y que el humo de la ciudad subía, tornaron, é hirieron á los de Hai.

And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.

Y los otros salieron de la ciudad á su encuentro: y así fueron encerrados en medio de Israel, los unos de la una parte, y los otros de la otra. Y los hirieron hasta que no quedó ninguno de ellos que escapase.

And the others came forth out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side: and they smote them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.

Y tomaron vivo al rey de Hai, y trajéronle á Josué.

And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.

Y cuando los Israelitas acabaron de matar á todos los moradores de Hai en el campo, en el desierto, donde ellos los habían perseguido, y que todos habían caído á filo de espada hasta ser consumidos, todos los Israelitas se tornaron á Hai, y también la pusieron á cuchillo.

And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they pursued them, and they were all fallen by the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all Israel returned unto Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.

Y el número de los que cayeron aquel día, hombres y mujeres, fué doce mil, todos los de Hai.

And all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.

Y Josué no retrajo su mano que había extendido con la lanza, hasta que hubo destruído á todos los moradores de Hai.

For Joshua drew not back his hand, wherewith he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.

Empero los Israelitas tomaron para sí las bestias y los despojos de la ciudad, conforme á la palabra de Jehová que él había mandado á Josué.

Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for prey unto themselves, according unto the word of Jehovah which he commanded Joshua.

Y Josué quemó á Hai y redújola á un montón perpetuo, asolado hasta hoy.

So Joshua burnt Ai, and made it a heap for ever, even a desolation, unto this day.

Mas al rey de Hai colgó de un madero hasta la tarde: y como el sol se puso, mandó Josué que quitasen del madero su cuerpo, y lo echasen á la puerta de la ciudad: y levantaron sobre él un gran montón de piedras, hasta hoy.

And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until the eventide: and at the going down of the sun Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree, and cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised thereon a great heap of stones, unto this day.

Entonces Josué edificó un altar á Jehová Dios de Israel en el monte de Ebal,

Then Joshua built an altar unto Jehovah, the God of Israel, in mount Ebal,

Como Moisés, siervo de Jehová, lo había mandado á los hijos de Israel, como está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, un altar de piedras enteras sobre las cuales nadie alzó hierro: y ofrecieron sobre él holocaustos á Jehová, y sacrificaron víctimas pacíficas.

as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of unhewn stones, upon which no man had lifted up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt-offerings unto Jehovah, and sacrificed peace-offerings.

También escribió allí en piedras la repetición de la ley de Moisés, la cual él había escrito delante de los hijos de Israel.

And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote, in the presence of the children of Israel.

Y todo Israel, y sus ancianos, oficiales, y jueces, estaban de la una y de la otra parte junto al arca, delante de los sacerdotes Levitas que llevan el arca del pacto de Jehová; así extranjeros como naturales, la mitad de ellos estaba hacia el monte de Gerizim, y la otra mitad hacia el monte de Ebal; de la manera que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, lo había mandado antes, para que bendijesen primeramente al pueblo de Israel.

And all Israel, and their elders and officers, and their judges, stood on this side of the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, as well the sojourner as the homeborn; half of them in front of mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of Jehovah had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Israel.

Después de esto, leyó todas las palabras de la ley, las bendiciones y las maldiciones, conforme á todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley.

And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.

No hubo palabra alguna de todas las cosas que mandó Moisés, que Josué no hiciese leer delante de toda la congregación de Israel, mujeres y niños, y extranjeros que andaban entre ellos.

There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the assembly of Israel, and the women, and the little ones, and the sojourners that were among them.

Capítulo 9

Y ACONTECIÓ que como oyeron estas cosas todos los reyes que estaban de esta parte del Jordán, así en las montañas como en los llanos, y en toda la costa de la gran mar delante del Líbano, los Hetheos, Amorrheos, Cananeos, Pherezeos, Heveos, y Jebuseos;

And it came to pass, when all the kings that were beyond the Jordan, in the hill-country, and in the lowland, and on all the shore of the great sea in front of Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard thereof;

Juntáronse á una, de un acuerdo, para pelear contra Josué é Israel.

that they gathered themselves together, to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord.

Mas los moradores de Gabaón, como oyeron lo que Josué había hecho á Jericó y á Hai,

But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho and to Ai,

Ellos usaron también de astucia; pues fueron y fingiéronse embajadores, y tomaron sacos viejos sobre sus asnos, y cueros viejos de vino, rotos y remendados,

they also did work wilily, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine-skins, old and rent and bound up,

Y zapatos viejos y recosidos en sus pies, con vestidos viejos sobre sí; y todo el pan que traían para el camino, seco y mohoso.

and old and patched shoes upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and all the bread of their provision was dry and was become mouldy.

Así vinieron á Josué al campo en Gilgal, y dijéronle á él y á los de Israel: Nosotros venimos de tierra muy lejana: haced pues ahora con nosotros alianza.

And they went to Joshua unto the camp at Gilgal, and said unto him, and to the men of Israel, We are come from a far country: now therefore make ye a covenant with us.

Y los de Israel respondieron á los Heveos: Quizás vosotros habitáis en medio de nosotros: ¿cómo pues podremos nosotros hacer alianza con vosotros?

And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a covenant with you?

Y ellos respondieron á Josué: Nosotros somos tus siervos. Y Josué les dijo: ¿Quién sois vosotros y de dónde venís?

And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who are ye? and from whence come ye?

Y ellos respondieron: Tus siervos han venido de muy lejanas tierras, por la fama de Jehová tu Dios; porque hemos oído su fama, y todas las cosas que hizo en Egipto,

And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of Jehovah thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,

Y todo lo que hizo á los dos reyes de los Amorrheos que estaban de la otra parte del Jordán; á Sehón rey de Hesbón, y á Og rey de Basán, que estaba en Astaroth.

and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.

Por lo cual nuestros ancianos y todos los moradores de nuestra tierra nos dijeron: Tomad en vuestras manos provisión para el camino, é id al encuentro de ellos, y decidles: Nosotros somos vuestros siervos, y haced ahora con nosotros alianza.

And our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spake to us, saying, Take provision in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them, and say unto them, We are your servants: and now make ye a covenant with us.

Este nuestro pan tomamos caliente de nuestras casas para el camino el día que salimos para venir á vosotros; y helo aquí ahora que está seco y mohoso:

This our bread we took hot for our provision out of our houses on the day we came forth to go unto you; but now, behold, it is dry, and is become mouldy:

Estos cueros de vino también los henchimos nuevos; helos aquí ya rotos: también estos nuestros vestidos y nuestros zapatos están ya viejos á causa de lo muy largo del camino.

and these wine-skins, which we filled, were new; and, behold, they are rent: and these our garments and our shoes are become old by reason of the very long journey.

Y los hombres de Israel tomaron de su provisión del camino, y no preguntaron á la boca de Jehová.

And the men took of their provision, and asked not counsel at the mouth of Jehovah.

Y Josué hizo paz con ellos, y concertó con ellos que les dejaría la vida: también los príncipes de la congregación les juraron.

And Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live: and the princes of the congregation sware unto them.

Pasados tres días después que hicieron con ellos el concierto, oyeron como eran sus vecinos, y que habitaban en medio de ellos.

And it came to pass at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors, and that they dwelt among them.

Y partiéronse los hijos de Israel, y al tercer día llegaron á sus ciudades: y sus ciudades eran Gabaón, Caphira, Beeroth, y Chiriath-jearim.

And the children of Israel journeyed, and came unto their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim.

Y no los hirieron los hijos de Israel, por cuanto los príncipes de la congregación les habían jurado por Jehová el Dios de Israel. Y toda la congregación murmuraba contra los príncipes.

And the children of Israel smote them not, because the princes of the congregation had sworn unto them by Jehovah, the God of Israel. And all the congregation murmured against the princes.

Mas todos los príncipes respondieron á toda la congregación: Nosotros les hemos jurado por Jehová Dios de Israel; por tanto, ahora no les podemos tocar.

But all the princes said unto all the congregation, We have sworn unto them by Jehovah, the God of Israel: now therefore we may not touch them.

Esto haremos con ellos: les dejaremos vivir, porque no venga ira sobre nosotros á causa del juramento que les hemos hecho.

This we will do to them, and let them live; lest wrath be upon us, because of the oath which we sware unto them.

Y los príncipes les dijeron: Vivan; mas sean leñadores y aguadores para toda la congregación, como los príncipes les han dicho.

And the princes said unto them, Let them live: so they became hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation, as the princes had spoken unto them.

Y llamándolos Josué, les habló diciendo: ¿Por qué nos habéis engañado, diciendo, Habitamos muy lejos de vosotros; una vez que moráis en medio de nosotros?

And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye beguiled us, saying, We are very far from you; when ye dwell among us?

Vosotros pues ahora sois malditos, y no faltará de vosotros siervo, y quien corte la leña y saque el agua para la casa de mi Dios.

Now therefore ye are cursed, and there shall never fail to be of you bondmen, both hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.

Y ellos respondieron á Josué, y dijeron: Como fué dado á entender á tus siervos, que Jehová tu Dios había mandado á Moisés su siervo que os había de dar toda la tierra, y que había de destruir todos los moradores de la tierra delante de vosotros, por esto temimos en gran manera de vosotros por nuestras vidas, é hicimos esto.

And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that Jehovah thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; therefore we were sore afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.

Ahora pues, henos aquí en tu mano: lo que te pareciere bueno y recto hacer de nosotros, hazlo.

And now, behold, we are in thy hand: as it seemeth good and right unto thee to do unto us, do.

Y él lo hizo así; que los libró de la mano de los hijos de Israel, para que no los matasen.

And so did he unto them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, that they slew them not.

Y constituyólos Josué aquel día por leñadores y aguadores para la congregación y para el altar de Jehová, en el lugar que él escogiese: lo que son hasta hoy.

And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of Jehovah, unto this day, in the place which he should choose.

Capítulo 10

Y COMO Adonisedec rey de Jerusalem oyó que Josué había tomado á Hai, y que la había asolado, (como había hecho á Jericó y á su rey, así hizo á Hai y á su rey;) y que los moradores de Gabaón habían hecho paz con los Israelitas, y que estaban entre ellos;

Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;

Tuvieron muy gran temor; porque Gabaón era una gran ciudad, como una de las ciudades reales, y mayor que Hai, y todos sus hombres fuertes.

that they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.

Envió pues á decir Adonisedec rey de Jerusalem, á Oham rey de Hebrón, y á Phiream rey de Jerimoth, y á Japhia rey de Lachîs, y á Debir rey de Eglón:

Wherefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

Subid á mí, y ayudadme, y combatamos á Gabaón: porque ha hecho paz con Josué y con los hijos de Israel.

Come up unto me, and help me, and let us smite Gibeon; for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

Y cinco reyes de los Amorrheos, el rey de Jerusalem, el rey de Hebrón, el rey de Jerimoth, el rey de Lachîs, el rey de Eglón, se juntaron y subieron, ellos con todos sus ejércitos, y asentaron campo sobre Gabaón, y pelearon contra ella.

Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped against Gibeon, and made war against it.

Y los moradores de Gabaón enviaron á decir á Josué al campo en Gilgal: No encojas tus manos de tus siervos; sube prestamente á nosotros para guardarnos y ayudarnos: porque todos los reyes de los Amorrheos que habitan en las montañas, se han juntado contra nosotros.

And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill-country are gathered together against us.

Y subió Josué de Gilgal, él y todo el pueblo de guerra con él, y todos los hombres valientes.

So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor.

Y Jehová dijo á Josué: No tengas temor de ellos: porque yo los he entregado en tu mano, y ninguno de ellos parará delante de ti.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thy hands; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

Y Josué vino á ellos de repente, toda la noche subió desde Gilgal.

Joshua therefore came upon them suddenly; [for] he went up from Gilgal all the night.

Y Jehová los turbó delante de Israel, é hiriólos con gran mortandad en Gabaón: y siguiólos por el camino que sube á Beth-oron, é hiriólos hasta Azeca y Maceda.

And Jehovah discomfited them before Israel, and he slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them by the way of the ascent of Beth-horon, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

Y como iban huyendo de los Israelitas, á la bajada de Beth-oron, Jehová echó sobre ellos del cielo grandes piedras hasta Azeca, y murieron: muchos más murieron de las piedras del granizo, que los que los hijos de Israel habían muerto á cuchillo.

And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, that Jehovah cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more who died with the hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

Entonces Josué habló á Jehová el día que Jehová entregó al Amorrheo delante de los hijos de Israel, y dijo en presencia de los Israelitas: Sol, detente en Gabaón; y tú, Luna, en el valle de Ajalón.

Then spake Joshua to Jehovah in the day when Jehovah delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; And thou, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon.

Y el sol se detuvo y la luna se paró, hasta tanto que la gente se hubo vengado de sus enemigos. ¿No está aquesto escrito en el libro de Jasher? Y el sol se paró en medio del cielo, y no se apresuró á ponerse casi un día entero.

And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, Until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

Y nunca fué tal día antes ni después de aquél, habiendo atendido Jehová á la voz de un hombre: porque Jehová peleaba por Israel.

And there was no day like that before it or after it, that Jehovah hearkened unto the voice of a man: for Jehovah fought for Israel.

Y Josué, y todo Israel con él, volvíase al campo en Gilgal.

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

Pero los cinco reyes huyeron, y se escondieron en una cueva en Maceda.

And these five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.

Y fué dicho á Josué que los cinco reyes habían sido hallados en una cueva en Maceda.

And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah.

Entonces Josué dijo: Rodad grandes piedras á la boca de la cueva, y poned hombres junto á ella que los guarden;

And Joshua said, Roll great stones unto the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to keep them:

Y vosotros no os paréis, sino seguid á vuestros enemigos, y heridles la retaguardia, sin dejarles entrar en sus ciudades; porque Jehová vuestro Dios los ha entregado en vuestra mano.

but stay not ye; pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for Jehovah your God hath delivered them into your hand.

Y aconteció que como Josué y los hijos de Israel hubieron acabado de herirlos con mortandad muy grande, hasta destruirlos, los que quedaron de ellos se metieron en las ciudades fuertes.

And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, and the remnant which remained of them had entered into the fortified cities,

Y todo el pueblo se volvió salvo al campo á Josué en Maceda; que no hubo quien moviese su lengua contra los hijos de Israel.

that all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

Entonces dijo Josué: Abrid la boca de la cueva, y sacadme de ella á estos cinco reyes.

Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring forth those five kings unto me out of the cave.

E hiciéronlo así, y sacáronle de la cueva aquellos cinco reyes: al rey de Jerusalem, al rey de Hebrón, al rey de Jerimoth, al rey de Lachîs, al rey de Eglón.

And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon.

Y cuando hubieron sacado estos reyes á Josué, llamó Josué á todos los varones de Israel, y dijo á los principales de la gente de guerra que habían venido con él: Llegad y poned vuestros pies sobre los pescuezos de aquestos reyes. Y ellos se llegaron, y pusieron sus pies sobre los pescuezos de ellos.

And it came to pass, when they brought forth those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the chiefs of the men of war that went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

Y Josué les dijo: No temáis, ni os atemoricéis; sed fuertes y valientes: porque así hará Jehová á todos vuestros enemigos contra los cuales peleáis.

And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed; be strong and of good courage: for thus shall Jehovah do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

Y después de esto Josué los hirió y los mató, é hízolos colgar en cinco maderos: y quedaron colgados en los maderos hasta la tarde.

And afterward Joshua smote them, and put them to death, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

Y cuando el sol se iba á poner, mandó Josué que los quitasen de los maderos, y los echasen en la cueva donde se habían escondido: y pusieron grandes piedras á la boca de la cueva, hasta hoy.

And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had hidden themselves, and laid great stones on the mouth of the cave, unto this very day.

En aquel mismo día tomó Josué á Maceda, y la puso á cuchillo, y mató á su rey; á ellos y á todo lo que en ella tenía vida, sin quedar nada: mas al rey de Maceda hizo como había hecho al rey de Jericó.

And Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof: he utterly destroyed them and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining; and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done unto the king of Jericho.

Y de Maceda pasó Josué, y todo Israel con él, á Libna; y peleó contra Libna:

And Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:

Y Jehová la entregó también á ella, y á su rey, en manos de Israel; y metióla á filo de espada, con todo lo que en ella había vivo, sin quedar nada: mas á su rey hizo de la manera que había hecho al rey de Jericó.

and Jehovah delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining in it; and he did unto the king thereof as he had done unto the king of Jericho.

Y Josué, y todo Israel con él, pasó de Libna á Lachîs, y puso campo contra ella, y combatióla:

And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:

Y Jehová entregó á Lachîs en mano de Israel, y tomóla al día siguiente, y metióla á cuchillo, con todo lo que en ella había vivo, como había hecho en Libna.

and Jehovah delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel; and he took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

Entonces Horam, rey de Gezer, subió en ayuda de Lachîs; mas á él y á su pueblo hirió Josué, hasta no quedar ninguno de ellos.

Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

De Lachîs pasó Josué, y todo Israel con él, á Eglón: y pusieron campo contra ella, y combatiéronla:

And Joshua passed from Lachish, and all Israel with him, unto Eglon; and they encamped against it, and fought against it;

Y la tomaron el mismo día, y metiéronla á cuchillo; y aquel día mató á todo lo que en ella había vivo, como había hecho en Lachîs.

and they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword; and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

Subió luego Josué, y todo Israel con él, de Eglón á Hebrón, y combatiéronla;

And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:

Y tomándola, la metieron á cuchillo, á su rey y á todas sus ciudades, con todo lo que en ella había vivo, sin quedar nada: como habían hecho á Eglón, así la destruyeron con todo lo que en ella había vivo.

and they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but he utterly destroyed it, and all the souls that were therein.

Y volviéndose Josué, y todo Israel con él, sobre Debir, combatióla;

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir, and fought against it:

Y tomóla, y á su rey, y á todas sus villas; y metiéronlos á cuchillo, y destruyeron todo lo que allí dentro había vivo, sin quedar nada: como había hecho á Hebrón, así hizo á Debir y á su rey; y como había hecho á Libna y á su rey.

and he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to the king thereof.

Hirió pues Josué toda la región de las montañas, y del mediodía, y de los llanos, y de las cuestas, y á todos sus reyes, sin quedar nada; todo lo que tenía vida mató, al modo que Jehová Dios de Israel lo había mandado.

So Joshua smote all the land, the hill-country, and the South, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, commanded.

E hiriólos Josué desde Cades-barnea hasta Gaza, y toda la tierra de Gosén hasta Gabaón.

And Joshua smote them from Kadesh-barnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.

Todos estos reyes y sus tierras tomó Josué de una vez; porque Jehová el Dios de Israel peleaba por Israel.

And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because Jehovah, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

Y tornóse Josué, y todo Israel con él, al campo en Gilgal.

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

Capítulo 11

OYENDO esto Jabín rey de Hasor, envió mensaje á Jobab rey de Madón, y al rey de Simrom, y al rey de Achsaph,

And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard thereof, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

Y á los reyes que estaban á la parte del norte en las montañas, y en el llano al mediodía de Cinneroth, y en los llanos, y en las regiones de Dor al occidente;

and to the kings that were on the north, in the hill-country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west,

Y al Cananeo que estaba al oriente y al occidente, y al Amorrheo, y al Hetheo, y al Pherezeo, y al Jebuseo en las montañas, y al Heveo debajo de Hermón en tierra de Mizpa.

to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill-country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

Estos salieron, y con ellos todos sus ejércitos, pueblo mucho en gran manera, como la arena que está á la orilla del mar, con gran muchedumbre de caballos y carros.

And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea-shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.

Todos estos reyes se juntaron, y viniendo reunieron los campos junto á las aguas de Merom, para pelear contra Israel.

And all these kings met together; and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.

Mas Jehová dijo á Josué: No tengas temor de ellos, que mañana á esta hora yo entregaré á todos éstos, muertos delante de Israel: á sus caballos desjarretarás, y sus carros quemarás al fuego.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them; for to-morrow at this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hock their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

Y vino Josué, y con él todo el pueblo de guerra, contra ellos, y dió de repente sobre ellos junto á las aguas de Merom.

So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell upon them.

Y entrególos Jehová en manos de Israel, los cuales los hirieron y siguieron hasta Sidón la grande, y hasta las aguas calientes, y hasta el llano de Mizpa al oriente, hiriéndolos hasta que no les dejaron ninguno.

And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they smote them, and chased them unto great Sidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

Y Josué hizo con ellos como Jehová le había mandado: desjarretó sus caballos, y sus carros quemó al fuego.

And Joshua did unto them as Jehovah bade him: he hocked their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

Y tornándose Josué, tomó en el mismo tiempo á Hasor, é hirió á cuchillo á su rey: la cual Hasor había sido antes cabeza de todos estos reinos.

And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.

E hirieron á cuchillo todo cuanto en ella había vivo, destruyendo y no dejando cosa con vida; y á Asor pusieron á fuego.

And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was none left that breathed: and he burnt Hazor with fire.

Asimismo tomó Josué todas las ciudades de aquestos reyes, y á todos los reyes de ellas, y los metió á cuchillo, y los destruyó, como Moisés siervo de Jehová lo había mandado.

And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and he smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded.

Empero todas las ciudades que estaban en sus cabezos, no las quemó Israel, sacando á sola Asor, la cual quemó Josué.

But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn.

Y los hijos de Israel tomaron para sí todos los despojos y bestias de aquestas ciudades: pero á todos los hombres metieron á cuchillo hasta destruirlos, sin dejar alguno con vida.

And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any that breathed.

De la manera que Jehová lo había mandado á Moisés su siervo, así Moisés lo mandó á Josué: y así Josué lo hizo, sin quitar palabra de todo lo que Jehová había mandado á Moisés.

As Jehovah commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua: and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that Jehovah commanded Moses.

Tomó pues Josué toda aquella tierra, las montañas, y toda la región del mediodía, y toda la tierra de Gosén, y los bajos y los llanos, y la montaña de Israel y sus valles.

So Joshua took all that land, the hill-country, and all the South, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill-country of Israel, and the lowland of the same;

Desde el monte de Halac, que sube hasta Seir, hasta Baal-gad en la llanura del Líbano, á las raíces del monte Hermón: tomó asimismo todos sus reyes, los cuales hirió y mató.

from mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and put them to death.

Por muchos días tuvo guerra Josué con estos reyes.

Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

No hubo ciudad que hiciese paz con los hijos de Israel, sacados los Heveos, que moraban en Gabaón: todo lo tomaron por guerra.

There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: they took all in battle.

Porque esto vino de Jehová, que endurecía el corazón de ellos para que resistiesen con guerra á Israel, para destruirlos, y que no les fuese hecha misericordia, antes fuesen desarraigados, como Jehová lo había mandado á Moisés.

For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

También en el mismo tiempo vino Josué y destruyó los Anaceos de los montes, de Hebrón, de Debir, y de Anab, y de todos los montes de Judá, y de todos los montes de Israel: Josué los destruyó á ellos y á sus ciudades.

And Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel: Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.

Ninguno de los Anaceos quedó en la tierra de los hijos de Israel; solamente quedaron en Gaza, en Gath, y en Asdod.

There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.

Tomó, pues, Josué toda la tierra, conforme á todo lo que Jehová había dicho á Moisés; y entrególa Josué á los Israelitas por herencia, conforme á sus repartimientos de sus tribus: y la tierra reposó de guerra.

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah spake unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land had rest from war.

Capítulo 12

ESTOS son los reyes de la tierra que los hijos de Israel hirieron, y cuya tierra poseyeron de la otra parte del Jordán al nacimiento del sol, desde el arroyo de Arnón hasta el monte Hermón, y toda la llanura oriental:

Now these are the kings of the land, whom the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land beyond the Jordan toward the sunrising, from the valley of the Arnon unto mount Hermon, and all the Arabah eastward:

Sehón rey de los Amorrheos, que habitaba en Hesbón, y señoreaba desde Aroer, que está á la ribera del arroyo de Arnón, y desde en medio del arroyo, y la mitad de Galaad, hasta el arroyo Jaboc, el término de los hijos de Ammón;

Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and [the city that is in] the middle of the valley, and half Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok, the border of the children of Ammon;

Y desde la campiña hasta la mar de Cinneroth, al oriente; y hasta la mar de la llanura, el mar Salado, al oriente, por el camino de Beth-jesimoth; y desde el mediodía debajo de las vertientes del Pisga.

and the Arabah unto the sea of Chinneroth, eastward, and unto the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, the way to Beth-jeshimoth; and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah:

Y los términos de Og rey de Basán, que había quedado de los Rapheos, el cual habitaba en Astaroth y en Edrei,

and the border of Og king of Bashan, of the remnant of the Rephaim, who dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei,

Y señoreaba en el monte de Hermón, y en Salca, y en todo Basán hasta los términos de Gessuri y de Maachâti, y la mitad de Galaad, término de Sehón rey de Hesbón.

and ruled in mount Hermon, and in Salecah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.

A estos hirieron Moisés siervo de Jehová y los hijos de Israel; y Moisés siervo de Jehová dió aquella tierra en posesión á los Rubenitas, Gaditas, y á la media tribu de Manasés.

Moses the servant of Jehovah and the children of Israel smote them: and Moses the servant of Jehovah gave it for a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

Y estos son los reyes de la tierra que hirió Josué con los hijos de Israel, de esta parte del Jordán al occidente, desde Baal-gad en el llano del Líbano hasta el monte de Halac que sube á Seir; la cual tierra dió Josué en posesión á las tribus de Israel, conforme á sus repartimientos;

And these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the children of Israel smote beyond the Jordan westward, from Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon even unto mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir; and Joshua gave it unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions;

En montes y en valles, en llanos y en vertientes, al desierto y al mediodía; el Hetheo, y el Amorrheo, y el Cananeo, y el Pherezeo, y el Heveo, y el Jebuseo.

in the hill-country, and in the lowland, and in the Arabah, and in the slopes, and in the wilderness, and in the South; the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

El rey de Jericó, uno: el rey de Hai, que está al lado de Beth-el, otro:

the king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one;

El rey de Jerusalem, otro: el rey de Hebrón, otro:

the king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one;

El rey de Jarmuth, otro: el rey de Lachîs, otro:

the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;

El rey de Eglón, otro: el rey de Gezer, otro:

the king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one;

El rey de Debir, otro: el rey de Geder, otro:

the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one;

El rey de Horma, otro: el rey de Arad, otro:

the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one;

El rey de Libna, otro: el rey de Adullam, otro:

the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one;

El rey de Maceda, otro: el rey de Beth-el, otro:

the king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one;

El rey de Tappua, otro: el rey de Hepher, otro:

the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one;

El rey de Aphec, otro: el rey de Lasarón, otro:

the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lassharon, one;

El rey de Madón, otro: el rey de Hasor, otro:

the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one;

El rey de Simrom-meron, otro: el rey de Achsaph, otro:

the king of Shimron-meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one;

El rey de Taanach, otro: el rey de Megiddo, otro:

the king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one;

El rey de Chêdes, otro: el rey de Jocneam de Carmel, otro:

the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in Carmel, one;

El rey de Dor, de la provincia de Dor, otro: el rey de Gentes en Gilgal, otro:

the king of Dor in the height of Dor, one; the king of Goiim in Gilgal, one;

El rey de Tirsa, otro: treinta y un reyes en todo.

the king of Tirzah, one: all the kings thirty and one.

Capítulo 13

Y SIENDO Josué ya viejo, entrado en días, Jehová le dijo: Tú eres ya viejo, de edad avanzada, y queda aún muy mucha tierra por poseer.

Now Joshua was old and well stricken in years; and Jehovah said unto him, Thou art old and well stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.

Esta es la tierra que queda: todos los términos de los Philisteos, y toda Gessuri;

This is the land that yet remaineth: all the regions of the Philistines, and all the Geshurites;

Desde Sihor, que está delante de Egipto, hasta el término de Accarón al norte, repútase de los Cananeos: cinco provincias de los Philisteos; los Gazeos, Asdodios, Ascalonitas, Getheos, y Accaronitas; y los Heveos;

from the Shihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the border of Ekron northward, [which] is reckoned to the Canaanites; the five lords of the Philistines; the Gazites, and the Ashdodites, the Ashkelonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avvim,

Al mediodía toda la tierra de los Cananeos, y Mehara que es de los Sidonios, hasta Aphec, hasta el término del Amorrheo;

on the south; all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongeth to the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the border of the Amorites;

Y la tierra de los Gibleos, y todo el Líbano hacia donde sale el sol, desde Baal-gad á las raíces del monte Hermón, hasta entrar en Hamath;

and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon unto the entrance of Hamath;

Todos los que habitan en las montañas desde el Líbano hasta las aguas calientes, todos los Sidonios; yo los desarraigaré delante de lo hijos de Israel: solamente repartirás tú por suerte el país á los Israelitas por heredad, como te he mandado.

all the inhabitants of the hill-country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians; them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only allot thou it unto Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

Parte, pues, tú ahora esta tierra en heredad á las nueve tribus, y á la media tribu de Manasés.

Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

Porque la otra media recibió su heredad con los Rubenitas y Gaditas, la cual les dió Moisés de la otra parte del Jordán al oriente, según que se la dió Moisés siervo de Jehová:

With him the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of Jehovah gave them:

Desde Aroer, que está á la orilla del arroyo de Arnón, y la ciudad que está en medio del arroyo, y toda la campiña de Medeba, hasta Dibón;

from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon;

Y todas las ciudades de Sehón rey de los Amorrheos, el cual reinó en Hesbón, hasta los términos de los hijos de Ammón;

and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon;

Y Galaad, y los términos de Gessuri y de Maachâti, y todo el monte de Hermón, y toda la tierra de Basán hasta Salchâ:

and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salecah;

Todo el reino de Og en Basán, el cual reinó en Astaroth y Edrei, el cual había quedado del residuo de los Rapheos; pues Moisés los hirió, y echó.

all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (the same was left of the remnant of the Rephaim); for these did Moses smite, and drove them out.

Mas á los de Gessuri y Maachâti no echaron los hijos de Israel; antes Gessur y Maachât habitaron entre los Israelitas hasta hoy.

Nevertheless the children of Israel drove not out the Geshurites, nor the Maacathites: but Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel unto this day.

Empero á la tribu de Leví no dió heredad: los sacrificios de Jehová Dios de Israel son su heredad, como él les había dicho.

Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the offerings of Jehovah, the God of Israel, made by fire are his inheritance, as he spake unto him.

Dió, pues, Moisés á la tribu de los hijos de Rubén conforme á sus familias:

And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their families.

Y fué el término de ellos desde Aroer, que está á la orilla del arroyo de Arnón, y la ciudad que está en medio del arroyo, y toda la campiña, hasta Medeba;

And their border was from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain by Medeba;

Hesbón, con todas sus villas que están en la llanura; Dibón, y Bamoth-baal, y Beth-baal-meón;

Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon,

Y Jaas, y Keddemoth, y Mephaath,

and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

Y Chîriataim, y Sibma, y Zerethshahar en el monte del valle;

and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar in the mount of the valley,

Y Beth-peor, y Asdoth-pisga, y Beth-jesimoth;

and Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth,

Y todas las ciudades de la campiña, y todo el reino de Sehón rey de los Amorrheos, que reinó en Hesbón, al cual hirió Moisés, y á los príncipes de Madián, Hevi, Recem, y Sur, y Hur, y Reba, príncipes de Sehón que habitaban en aquella tierra.

and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the chiefs of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon, that dwelt in the land.

También mataron á cuchillo los hijos de Israel á Balaam adivino, hijo de Beor, con los demás que mataron.

Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among the rest of their slain.

Y fueron los términos de los hijos de Rubén el Jordán con su término. Esta fué la herencia de los hijos de Rubén conforme á sus familias, estas ciudades con sus villas.

And the border of the children of Reuben was the Jordan, and the border [thereof]. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

Dió asimismo Moisés á la tribu de Gad, á los hijos de Gad, conforme á sus familias.

And Moses gave unto the tribe of Gad, unto the children of Gad, according to their families.

Y el término de ellos fué Jacer, y todas las ciudades de Galaad, y la mitad de la tierra de los hijos de Ammón hasta Aroer, que está delante de Rabba.

And their border was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah;

Y desde Hesbón hasta Ramathmispe, y Betonim; y desde Mahanaim hasta el término de Debir:

and from Heshbon unto Ramath-mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir;

Y la campiña de Beth-aram, y Beth-nimra, y Sucoth, y Saphón, resto del reino de Sehón, rey en Hesbón: el Jordán y su término hasta el cabo de la mar de Cinnereth de la otra parte del Jordán al oriente.

and in the valley, Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan and the border [thereof], unto the uttermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward.

Esta es la herencia de los hijos de Gad, por sus familias, estas ciudades con sus villas.

This is the inheritance of the children of Gad according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

También dió Moisés herencia á la media tribu de Manasés: y fué de la media tribu de los hijos de Manasés, conforme á sus familias.

And Moses gave [inheritance] unto the half-tribe of Manasseh: and it was for the half-tribe of the children of Manasseh according to their families.

El término de ellos fué desde Mahanaim, todo Basán, todo el reino de Og rey de Basán, y todas las aldeas de Jair que están en Basán, sesenta poblaciones.

And their border was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities:

Dióse además la mitad de Galaad, y Astaroth, y Edrei, ciudades del reino de Og en Basán, á los hijos de Machîr, hijo de Manasés, á la mitad de los hijos de Machîr conforme á sus familias.

and half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even for the half of the children of Machir according to their families.

Esto es lo que Moisés repartió en heredad en los llanos de Moab, de la otra parte del Jordán de Jericó, al oriente.

These are the inheritances which Moses distributed in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan at Jericho, eastward.

Mas á la tribu de Leví no dió Moisés heredad: Jehová Dios de Israel es la heredad de ellos como él les había dicho.

But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance: Jehovah, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he spake unto them.

Capítulo 14

ESTO pues es lo que los hijos de Israel tomaron por heredad en la tierra de Canaán, lo cual les repartieron Eleazar sacerdote, y Josué hijo de Nun, y los principales de los padres de las tribus de los hijos de Israel.

And these are the inheritances which the children of Israel took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers` [houses] of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed unto them,

Por suerte dióseles su heredad, como Jehová lo había mandado por Moisés, que diese á las nueve tribus, y á la media tribu.

by the lot of their inheritance, as Jehovah commanded by Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half-tribe.

Porque á las dos tribus, y á la media tribu, les había Moisés dado heredad de la otra parte del Jordán: mas á los Levitas no dió heredad entre ellos.

For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.

Porque los hijos de José fueron dos tribus, Manasés y Ephraim: y no dieron parte á los Levitas en la tierra, sino ciudades en que morasen, con sus ejidos para sus ganados y rebaños.

For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: and they gave no portion unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for their cattle and for their substance.

De la manera que Jehová lo había mandado á Moisés, así lo hicieron los hijos de Israel en el repartimiento de la tierra.

As Jehovah commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did; and they divided the land.

Y los hijos de Judá vinieron á Josué en Gilgal; y Caleb, hijo de Jephone Cenezeo, le dijo: Tú sabes lo que Jehová dijo á Moisés, varón de Dios, en Cades-barnea, tocante á mí y á ti.

Then the children of Judah drew nigh unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that Jehovah spake unto Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning thee in Kadesh-barnea.

Yo era de edad de cuarenta años, cuando Moisés siervo de Jehová me envió de Cades-barnea á reconocer la tierra; y yo le referí el negocio como lo tenía en mi corazón:

Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of Jehovah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.

Mas mis hermanos, los que habían subido conmigo, menguaron el corazón del pueblo; empero yo cumplí siguiendo á Jehová mi Dios.

Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed Jehovah my God.

Entonces Moisés juró, diciendo: Si la tierra que holló tu pie no fuere para ti, y para tus hijos en herencia perpetua: por cuanto cumpliste siguiendo á Jehová mi Dios.

And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy foot hath trodden shall be an inheritance to thee and to thy children for ever, because thou hast wholly followed Jehovah my God.

Ahora bien, Jehová me ha hecho vivir, como él dijo, estos cuarenta y cinco años, desde el tiempo que Jehová habló estas palabras á Moisés, cuando Israel andaba por el desierto: y ahora, he aquí, soy hoy día de ochenta y cinco años:

And now, behold, Jehovah hath kept me alive, as he spake, these forty and five years, from the time that Jehovah spake this word unto Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

Pero aun hoy estoy tan fuerte como el día que Moisés me envió: cual era entonces mi fuerza, tal es ahora, para la guerra, y para salir y para entrar.

As yet I am as strong this day as I as in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, and to go out and to come in.

Dame, pues, ahora este monte, del cual habló Jehová aquel día; porque tú oiste en aquel día que los Anaceos están allí, y grandes y fuertes ciudades. Quizá Jehová será conmigo, y los echaré como Jehová ha dicho.

Now therefore give me this hill-country, whereof Jehovah spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakim were there, and cities great and fortified: it may be that Jehovah will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as Jehovah spake.

Josué entonces le bendijo, y dió á Caleb hijo de Jephone á Hebrón por heredad.

And Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

Por tanto Hebrón fué de Caleb, hijo de Jephone Cenezeo, en heredad hasta hoy; porque cumplió siguiendo á Jehová Dios de Israel.

Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite unto this day; because that he wholly followed Jehovah, the God of Israel.

Mas Hebrón fué antes llamada Chîriath-arba; fué Arba un hombre grande entre los Anaceos. Y la tierra tuvo reposo de las guerras.

Now the name of Hebron beforetime was Kiriath-arba; [which Arba was] the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.

Capítulo 15

Y FUÉ la suerte de la tribu de los hijos de Judá, por sus familias, junto al término de Edom, del desierto de Zin al mediodía, al lado del sur.

And the lot for the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families was unto the border of Edom, even to the wilderness of Zin southward, at the uttermost part of the south.

Y su término de la parte del mediodía fué desde la costa del mar Salado, desde la lengua que mira hacia el mediodía;

And their south border was from the uttermost part of the Salt Sea, from the bay that looketh southward;

Y salía hacia el mediodía á la subida de Acrabim, pasando hasta Zin; y subiendo por el mediodía hasta Cades-barnea, pasaba á Hebrón, y subiendo por Addar daba vuelta á Carca;

and it went out southward of the ascent of Akrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and went up by the south of Kadesh-barnea, and passed along by Hezron, and went up to Addar, and turned about to Karka;

De allí pasaba á Azmón, y salía al arroyo de Egipto; y sale este término al occidente. Este pues os será el término del mediodía.

and it passed along to Azmon, and went out at the brook of Egypt; and the goings out of the border were at the sea: this shall be your south border.

El término del oriente es el mar Salado hasta el fin del Jordán. Y el término de la parte del norte, desde la lengua del mar, desde el fin del Jordán:

And the east border was the Salt Sea, even unto the end of the Jordan. And the border of the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the end of the Jordan;

Y sube este término por Beth-hogla, y pasa del norte á Beth-araba, y de aquí sube este término á la piedra de Bohán, hijo de Rubén.

and the border went up to Beth-hoglah, and passed along by the north of Beth-arabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben;

Y torna á subir este término á Debir desde el valle de Achôr: y al norte mira sobre Gilgal, que está delante de la subida de Adumin, la cual está al mediodía del arroyo: y pasa este término á las aguas de En-semes, y sale á la fuente de Rogel:

and the border went up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is over against the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the river; and the border passed along to the waters of En-shemesh, and the goings out thereof were at En-rogel;

Y sube este término por el valle del hijo de Hinnom al lado del Jebuseo al mediodía: esta es Jerusalem. Luego sube este término por la cumbre del monte que está delante del valle de Hinnom hacia el occidente, el cual está al cabo del valle de los gigantes al norte:

and the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the side of the Jebusite southward (the same is Jerusalem); and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the uttermost part of the vale of Rephaim northward;

Y rodea este término desde la cumbre del monte hasta la fuente de las aguas de Nephtoa, y sale á la ciudades del monte de Ephrón, rodeando luego el mismo término á Baala, la cual es Chîriath-jearim.

and the border extended from the top of the mountain unto the fountain of the waters of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border extended to Baalah (the same is Kiriath-jearim);

Después torna este término desde Baala hacia el occidente al monte de Seir: y pasa al lado del monte de Jearim hacia el norte, esta es Chesalón, y desciende á Beth-semes, y pasa á Timna.

and the border turned about from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim on the north (the same is Chesalon), and went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed along by Timnah;

Sale luego este término al lado de Ecrón hacia el norte; y rodea el mismo término á Sichêron, y pasa por el monte de Baala, y sale á Jabneel: y sale este término á la mar.

and the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward; and the border extended to Shikkeron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out at Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea.

El término del occidente es la mar grande. Este pues, es el término de los hijos de Judá en derredor, por sus familias.

And the west border was to the great sea, and the border [thereof]. This is the border of the children of Judah round about according to their families.

Mas á Caleb, hijo de Jephone, dió parte entre los hijos de Judá, conforme al mandamiento de Jehová á Josué: esto es, á Chîriath-arba, del padre de Anac, que es Hebrón.

And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of Jehovah to Joshua, even Kiriath-arba, [which Arba was] the father of Anak (the same is Hebron).

Y Caleb echó de allí tres hijos de Anac, á Sesai, Aiman, y Talmai, hijos de Anac.

And Caleb drove out thence the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

De aquí subió á los que moraban en Debir: y el nombre de Debir era antes Chîriath-sepher.

And he went up thence against the inhabitants of Debir: now the name of Debir beforetime was Kiriath-sepher.

Y dijo Caleb: Al que hiriere á Chîriath-sepher, y la tomare, yo le daré á mi hija Axa por mujer.

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

Y tomóla Othoniel, hijo de Cenez, hermano de Caleb; y él le dió por mujer á su hija Axa.

And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

Y aconteció que cuando la llevaba, él la persuadió que pidiese á su padre tierras para labrar. Ella entonces se apeó del asno. Y Caleb le dijo: ¿Qué tienes?

And it came to pass, when she came [unto him], that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she alighted from off her ass; and Caleb said, What wouldest thou?

Y ella respondió: Dame bendición: pues que me has dado tierra de secadal, dame también fuentes de aguas. El entonces le dió las fuentes de arriba, y las de abajo.

And she said, Give me a blessing; for that thou hast set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

Esta pues es la herencia de la tribu de los hijos de Judá por sus familias.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.

Y fueron las ciudades del término de la tribu de los hijos de Judá hacia el término de Edom al mediodía: Cabseel, y Eder, y Jagur,

And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur,

Y Cina, y Dimona, y Adada,

and Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah,

Y Cedes, y Asor, é Itnán,

and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan,

Ziph, y Telem, y Bealoth,

Ecrón con sus villas y sus aldeas:

Ekron, with its towns and its villages;

Desde Ecrón hasta la mar, todas las que están á la costa de Asdod con sus aldeas.

from Ekron even unto the sea, all that were by the side of Ashdod, with their villages.

Asdod con sus villas y sus aldeas: Gaza con sus villas y sus aldeas hasta el río de Egipto, y la gran mar con sus términos.

Ashdod, its towns and its villages; Gaza, its towns and its villages; unto the brook of Egypt, and the great sea, and the border [thereof].

Y en las montañas, Samir, y Jattir, y Succoth,

And in the hill-country, Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh,

Y Danna, y Chîriath-sanna, que es Debir,

and Dannah, and Kiriath-sannah (the same is Debir),

Y Anab, y Estemo, y Anim,

and Anab, and Eshtemoh, and Anim,

Y Gosén, y Olón, y Gilo; once ciudades con sus aldeas.

and Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages.

Arab, y Dumah, y Esán,

Chîriath-baal, que es Chîriath-jearim, y Rabba; dos ciudades con sus aldeas.

Kiriath-baal (the same is Kiriath-jearim), and Rabbah; two cities with their villages.

En el desierto, Beth-araba, Middín, y Sechâchâ,

In the wilderness, Beth-arabah, Middin, and Secacah,

Y Nibsan, y la ciudad de la sal, y Engedi; seis ciudades con sus aldeas.

and Nibshan, and the City of Salt, and En-gedi; six cities with their villages.

Mas á los Jebuseos que habitaban en Jerusalem, los hijos de Judá no los pudieron desarraigar; antes quedó el Jebuseo en Jerusalem con los hijos de Judá, hasta hoy.

And as for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.

Capítulo 16

Y LA suerte del los hijos de José salió desde el Jordán de Jericó hasta las aguas de Jericó hacia el oriente, al desierto que sube de Jericó al monte de Beth-el:

And the lot came out for the children of Joseph from the Jordan at Jericho, at the waters of Jericho on the east, even the wilderness, going up from Jericho through the hill-country to Beth-el;

Y de Beth-el sale á Luz, y pasa al término de Archi en Ataroth;

and it went out from Beth-el to Luz, and passed along unto the border of the Archites to Ataroth;

Y torna á descender hacia la mar al término de Japhlet, hasta el término de Beth-oron la de abajo, y hasta Gezer; y sale á la mar.

and it went down westward to the border of the Japhletites, unto the border of Beth-horon the nether, even unto Gezer; and the goings out thereof were at the sea.

Recibieron pues heredad los hijos de José, Manasés y Ephraim.

And the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

Y fué el término de los hijos de Ephraim por sus familias, fué el término de su herencia á la parte oriental, desde Ataroth-addar hasta Beth-oron la de arriba:

And the border of the children of Ephraim according to their families was [thus]: the border of their inheritance eastward was Ataroth-addar, unto Beth-horon the upper;

Y sale este término á la mar, y á Michmetat al norte, y da vuelta este término hacia el oriente á Tanath-silo, y de aquí pasa del oriente á Janoa:

and the border went out westward at Michmethath on the north; and the border turned about eastward unto Taanath-shiloh, and passed along it on the east of Janoah;

Y de Janoa desciende á Ataroth, y á Naaratha, y toca en Jericó, y sale al Jordán.

and it went down from Janoah to Ataroth, and to Naarah, and reached unto Jericho, and went out at the Jordan.

Y de Tappua torna este término hacia la mar al arroyo de Cana, y sale á la mar. Esta es la heredad de la tribu de los hijos de Ephraim por sus familias.

From Tappuah the border went along westward to the brook of Kanah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim according to their families;

Hubo también ciudades que se apartaron para los hijos de Ephraim en medio de la herencia de los hijos de Manasés, todas ciudades con sus aldeas.

together with the cities which were set apart for the children of Ephraim in the midst of the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages.

Y no echaron al Cananeo que habitaba en Gezer; antes quedó el Cananeo en medio de Ephraim, hasta hoy, y fué tributario.

And they drove not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell in the midst of Ephraim unto this day, and are become servants to do taskwork.

Capítulo 17

Y TUVO también suerte la tribu de Manasés, porque fué primogénito de José. Machîr, primogénito de Manasés, y padre de Galaad, el cual fué hombre de guerra, tuvo á Galaad y á Basán.

And [this] was the lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the first-born of Joseph. As for Machir the first-born of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.

Tuvieron también suerte los otros hijos de Manasés conforme á sus familias: los hijos de Abiezer, y los hijos de Helec, y los hijos de Esriel, y los hijos de Sichêm, y los hijos de Hepher, y los hijos de Semida; estos fueron los hijos varones de Manasés hijo de José, por sus familias.

So [the lot] was for the rest of the children of Manasseh according to their families: for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families.

Pero Salphaad, hijo de Hepher, hijo de Galaad, hijo de Machîr, hijo de Manasés, no tuvo hijos, sino hijas, los nombres de las cuales son estos: Maala, Noa, Hogla, Milchâ, y Tirsa.

But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

Estas vinieron delante de Eleazar sacerdote, y de Josué hijo de Nun, y de los príncipes, y dijeron: Jehová mandó á Moisés que nos diese herencia entre nuestros hermanos. Y él les dió herencia entre los hermanos del padre de ellas, conforme al dicho de Jehová.

And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, Jehovah commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren: therefore according to the commandment of Jehovah he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.

Y cayeron á Manasés diez suertes á más de la tierra de Galaad y de Basán, que está de la otra parte del Jordán:

And there fell ten parts to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan;

Porque las hijas de Manasés poseyeron herencia entre sus hijos: y la tierra de Galaad fué de los otros hijos de Manasés.

because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons. And the land of Gilead belonged unto the rest of the sons of Manasseh.

Y fué el término de Manasés desde Aser hasta Michmetat, la cual está delante de Sichêm; y va este término á la mano derecha, á los que habitan en Tappua.

And the border of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethath, which is before Shechem; and the border went along to the right hand, unto the inhabitants of En-tappuah.

Y la tierra de Tappua fué de Manasés; pero Tappua, que está junto al término de Manasés, es de los hijos de Ephraim.

The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh; but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim.

Y desciende este término al arroyo de Cana, hacia el mediodía del arroyo. Estas ciudades de Ephraim están entre las ciudades de Manasés: y el término de Manasés es desde el norte del mismo arroyo, y sus salidas son á la mar.

And the border went down unto the brook of Kanah, southward of the brook: these cities belonged to Ephraim among the cities of Manasseh: and the border of Manasseh was on the north side of the brook, and the goings out thereof were at the sea:

Ephraim al mediodía, y Manasés al norte, y la mar es su término: y encuéntranse con Aser á la parte del norte, y con Issachâr al oriente.

southward it was Ephraim`s, and northward it was Manasseh`s, and the sea was his border; and they reached to Asher on the north, and to Issachar on the east.

Tuvo también Manasés en Issachâr y en Aser á Beth-san y sus aldeas, é Ibleam y sus aldeas, y los moradores de Dor y sus aldeas, y los moradores de Endor y sus aldeas, y los moradores de Taanach y sus aldeas, y los moradores de Megiddo y sus aldeas: tres provincias.

And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Beth-shean and its towns, and Ibleam and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of En-dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, even the three heights.

Mas los hijos de Manasés no pudieron echar á los de aquellas ciudades; antes el Cananeo quiso habitar en la tierra.

Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out [the inhabitants of] those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

Empero cuando los hijos de Israel tomaron fuerzas, hicieron tributario al Cananeo, mas no lo echaron.

And it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxed strong, that they put the Canaanites to taskwork, and did not utterly drive them out.

Y los hijos de José hablaron á Josué, diciendo: ¿Por qué me has dado por heredad una sola suerte y una sola parte, siendo yo un pueblo tan grande y que Jehová me ha así bendecido hasta ahora?

And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one part for an inheritance, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as hitherto Jehovah hath blessed me?

Y Josué les respondió: Si eres pueblo tan grande, sube tú al monte, y corta para ti allí en la tierra del Pherezeo y de los gigantes, pues que el monte de Ephraim es angosto para ti.

And Joshua said unto them, If thou be a great people, get thee up to the forest, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim; since the hill-country of Ephraim is too narrow for thee.

Y los hijos de José dijeron: No nos bastará á nosotros este monte: y todos los Cananeos que habitan la tierra de la campiña, tienen carros herrados; los que están en Beth-san y en sus aldeas, y los que están en el valle de Jezreel.

And the children of Joseph said, The hill-country is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are in Beth-shean and its towns, and they who are in the valley of Jezreel.

Entonces Josué respondió á la casa de José, á Ephraim y Manasés, diciendo: Tú eres gran pueblo, y tienes gran fuerza; no tendrás una sola suerte;

And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power; thou shalt not have one lot only:

Mas aquel monte será tuyo; que bosque es, y tú lo cortarás, y serán tuyos sus términos: porque tú echarás al Cananeo, aunque tenga carros herrados, y aunque sea fuerte.

but the hill-country shall be thine; for though it is a forest, thou shalt cut it down, and the goings out thereof shall be thine; for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.

Capítulo 18

Y TODA la congregación de los hijos de Israel se juntó en Silo, y asentaron allí el tabernáculo del testimonio, después que la tierra les fué sujeta.

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled themselves together at Shiloh, and set up the tent of meeting there: and the land was subdued before them.

Mas habían quedado en los hijos de Israel siete tribus, á las cuales aun no habían repartido su posesión.

And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet divided their inheritance.

Y Josué dijo á los hijos de Israel: ¿Hasta cuándo seréis negligentes para venir á poseer la tierra que os ha dado Jehová el Dios de vuestros padres?

And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go in to possess the land, which Jehovah, the God of your fathers, hath given you?

Señalad tres varones de cada tribu, para que yo los envíe, y que ellos se levanten, y recorran la tierra, y la describan conforme á sus heredades, y se tornen á mí.

Appoint for you three men of each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall arise, and walk through the land, and describe it according to their inheritance; and they shall come unto me.

Y la dividirán en siete partes: y Judá estará en su término al mediodía, y los de la casa de José estarán en el suyo al norte.

And they shall divide it into seven portions: Judah shall abide in his border on the south, and the house of Joseph shall abide in their border on the north.

Vosotros, pues, delinearéis la tierra en siete partes, y me traeréis la descripción aquí, y yo os echaré las suertes aquí delante de Jehová nuestro Dios.

And ye shall describe the land into seven portions, and bring [the description] hither to me; and I will cast lots for you here before Jehovah our God.

Empero los Levitas ninguna parte tienen entre vosotros; porque el sacerdocio de Jehová es la heredad de ellos: Gad también y Rubén, y la media tribu de Manasés, ya han recibido su heredad de la otra parte del Jordán al oriente, la cual les dió Moisés siervo de Jehová.

For the Levites have no portion among you; for the priesthood of Jehovah is their inheritance: and Gad and Reuben and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan eastward, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave them.

Levantándose pues aquellos varones, fueron: y mandó Josué á los que iban para delinear la tierra, diciéndoles: Id, recorred la tierra, y delineadla, y tornad á mí, para que yo os eche las suertes aquí delante de Jehová en Silo.

And the men arose, and went: and Joshua charged them that went to describe the land, saying, Go and walk through the land, and describe it, and come again to me; and I will cast lots for you here before Jehovah in Shiloh.

Fueron pues aquellos varones y pasearon la tierra, delineándola por ciudades en siete partes en un libro, y tornaron á Josué al campo en Silo.

And the men went and passed through the land, and described it by cities into seven portions in a book; and they came to Joshua unto the camp at Shiloh.

Y Josué les echó las suertes delante de Jehová en Silo; y allí repartió Josué la tierra á los hijos de Israel por sus porciones.

And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before Jehovah: and there Joshua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions.

Y sacóse la suerte de la tribu de los hijos de Benjamín por sus familias: y salió el término de su suerte entre los hijos de Judá y los hijos de José.

And the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their families: and the border of their lot went out between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph.

Y fué el término de ellos al lado del norte desde el Jordán: y sube aquel término al lado de Jericó al norte; sube después al monte hacia el occidente, y viene á salir al desierto de Beth-aven:

And their border on the north quarter was from the Jordan; and the border went up to the side of Jericho on the north, and went up through the hill-country westward; and the goings out thereof were at the wilderness of Beth-aven.

Y de allí pasa aquel término á Luz, por el lado de Luz (esta es Beth-el) hacia el mediodía. Y desciende este término de Ataroth-addar al monte que está al mediodía de Beth-oron la de abajo.

And the border passed along from thence to Luz, to the side of Luz (the same is Beth-el), southward; and the border went down to Ataroth-addar, by the mountain that lieth on the south of Beth-horon the nether.

Y torna este término, y da vuelta al lado de la mar, al mediodía hasta el monte que está delante de Beth-oron al mediodía; y viene á salir á Chîriath-baal, que es Chîriath-jearim, ciudad de los hijos de Judá. Este es el lado del occidente.

And the border extended [thence], and turned about on the west quarter southward, from the mountain that lieth before Beth-horon southward; and the goings out thereof were at Kiriath-baal (the same is Kiriath-jearim), a city of the children of Judah: this was the west quarter.

Y el lado del mediodía es desde el cabo de Chîriath-jearim, y sale el término al occidente, y sale á la fuente de las aguas de Nephtoa:

And the south quarter was from the uttermost part of Kiriath-jearim; and the border went out westward, and went out to the fountain of the waters of Nephtoah;

Y desciende aqueste término al cabo del monte que está delante del valle del hijo de Hinnom, que está en la campiña de los gigantes hacia el norte: desciende luego al valle de Hinnom, al lado del Jebuseo al mediodía, y de allí desciende á la fuente de Rogel:

and the border went down to the uttermost part of the mountain that lieth before the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is in the vale of Rephaim northward; and it went down to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of the Jebusite southward, and went down to En-rogel;

Y del norte torna y sale á Ensemes, y de allí sale á Geliloth, que está delante de la subida de Adummim, y descendía á la piedra de Bohan, hijo de Rubén:

and it extended northward, and went out at En-shemesh, and went out to Geliloth, which is over against the ascent of Adummim; and it went down to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben;

Y pasa al lado que está delante de la campiña del norte, y desciende á los llanos:

and it passed along to the side over against the Arabah northward, and went down unto the Arabah;

Y torna á pasar este término por el lado de Beth-hogla hacia el norte, y viene á salir el término á la lengua del mar Salado al norte, al cabo del Jordán al mediodía. Este es el término de hacia el mediodía.

and the border passed along to the side of Beth-hoglah northward; and the goings out of the border were at the north bay of the Salt Sea, at the south end of the Jordan: this was the south border.

Y el Jordán acaba aqueste término al lado del oriente. Esta es la heredad de los hijos de Benjamín por sus términos alrededor, conforme á sus familias.

And the Jordan was the border of it on the east quarter. This was the inheritance of the children of Benjamin, by the borders thereof round about, according to their families.

Las ciudades de la tribu de los hijos de Benjamín, por sus familias, fueron Jericó, Beth-hogla, y el valle de Casis,

Now the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho, and Beth-hoglah, and Emek-keziz,

Beth-araba, Samaraim, y Beth-el;

and Beth-arabah, and Zemaraim, and Beth-el,

Y Avim, y Para, y Ophra,

and Avvim, and Parah, and Ophrah,

Y Cephar-hammonai, Ophni, y Gaba; doce ciudades con sus aldeas:

and Chephar-ammoni, and Ophni, and Geba; twelve cities with their villages:

Gabaón, Rama, Beeroth,

Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth,

Y Mizpa, Chephira, y Moza,

and Mizpeh, and Chephirah, and Mozah,

Recom, Irpeel y Tarala,

and Rekem, and Irpeel, and Taralah,

Y Sela, Eleph, Jebus, que es Jerusalem, Gibeath, y Chîriath; catorce ciudades con sus aldeas. Esta es la heredad de los hijos de Benjamín, conforme á sus familias.

and Zelah, Eleph, and the Jebusite (the same is Jerusalem), Gibeath, [and] Kiriath; fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin according to their families.

Capítulo 19

LA SEGUNDA suerte salió por Simeón, por la tribu de los hijos de Simeón conforme á sus familias; y su heredad fué entre la heredad de los hijos de Judá.

And the second lot came out for Simeon, even for the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families: and their inheritance was in the midst of the inheritance of the children of Judah.

Y tuvieron en su heredad á Beer-seba, Seba, y Molada,

And they had for their inheritance Beer-sheba, or Sheba, and Moladah,

Hasar-sual, Bala, y Esem,

and Hazar-shual, and Balah, and Ezem,

Heltolad, Betul, y Horma,

and Eltolad, and Bethul, and Hormah,

Siclag, Beth-marchâboth, y Hasar-susa,

and Ziklag, and Beth-marcaboth, and Hazar-susah,

Beth-lebaoth, y Saruhén; trece ciudades con sus aldeas:

and Beth-lebaoth, and Sharuhen; thirteen cities with their villages:

Aín, Rimmón, Eter, y Asán; cuatro ciudades con sus aldeas:

Ain, Rimmon, and Ether, and Ashan; four cities with their villages:

Y todas las aldeas que estaban alrededor de estas ciudades hasta Baalath-beer, que es Ramat del mediodía. Esta es la heredad de la tribu de los hijos de Simeón, según sus familias.

and all the villages that were round about these cities to Baalath-beer, Ramah of the South. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families.

De la suerte de los hijos de Judá fué sacada la heredad de los hijos de Simeón; por cuanto la parte de los hijos de Judá era excesiva para ellos: así que los hijos de Simeón tuvieron su heredad en medio de la de ellos.

Out of the part of the children of Judah was the inheritance of the children of Simeon; for the portion of the children of Judah was too much for them: therefore the children of Simeon had inheritance in the midst of their inheritance.

La tercera suerte salió por los hijos de Zabulón conforme á sus familias: y el término de su heredad fué hasta Sarid.

And the third lot came up for the children of Zebulun according to their families; and the border of their inheritance was unto Sarid;

Y su término sube hasta la mar y hasta Merala, y llega hasta Dabbe-seth, y de allí llega al arroyo que está delante de Jocneam;

and their border went up westward, even to Maralah, and reached to Dabbesheth; and it reached to the brook that is before Jokneam;

Y tornando de Sarid hacia oriente, donde nace el sol al término de Chisiloth-tabor, sale á Dabrath, y sube á Japhia;

and it turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrising unto the border of Chisloth-tabor; and it went out to Daberath, and went up to Japhia;

Y pasando de allí hacia el lado oriental á Gith-hepher y á Itta-kazin, sale á Rimmón rodeando á Nea;

and from thence it passed along eastward to Gath-hepher, to Eth-kazin; and it went out at Rimmon which stretcheth unto Neah;

Y de aquí torna este término al norte á Hanatón, viniendo á salir al valle de Iphtael;

and the border turned about it on the north to Hannathon; and the goings out thereof were at the valley of Iphtah-el;

Y abraza Catah, y Naalal, y Simrón, é Ideala, y Beth-lehem; doce ciudades con sus aldeas.

and Kattath, and Nahalal, and Shimron, and Idalah, and Bethlehem: twelve cities with their villages.

Esta es la heredad de los hijos de Zabulón por sus familias; estas ciudades con sus aldeas.

This is the inheritance of the children of Zebulun according to their families, these cities with their villages.

La cuarta suerte salió por Issachâr, por los hijos de Issachâr conforme á sus familias.

The fourth lot came out for Issachar, even for the children of Issachar according to their families.

Y fué su término Izreel, y Chesullot, y Sunem,

And their border was unto Jezreel, and Chesulloth, and Shunem,

Y Hapharaim, y Sión, y Anaarath,

and Hapharaim, and Shion, and Anaharath,

Y Rabbit, y Chisión, y Ebes,

and Rabbith, and Kishion, and Ebez,

Y Rameth, y En-gannim, y En-hadda y Beth-passes;

and Remeth, and Engannim, and En-haddah, and Beth-pazzez,

Y llega este término hasta Tabor, y Sahasim, y Beth-semes; y sale su término al Jordán: diez y seis ciudades con sus aldeas.

and the border reached to Tabor, and Shahazumah, and Beth-shemesh; and the goings out of their border were at the Jordan: sixteen cities with their villages.

Esta es la heredad de la tribu de los hijos de Issachâr conforme á sus familias; estas ciudades con sus aldeas.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Issachar according to their families, the cities with their villages.

Y salió la quinta suerte por la tribu de los hijos de Aser por sus familias.

And the fifth lot came out for the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families.

Y su término fué Helchât, y Halí, y Betén, y Axaph,

And their border was Helkath, and Hali, and Beten, and Achshaph,

Y Alammelec, y Amead, y Miseal; y llega hasta Carmel al occidente, y á Sihor-libnath;

and Allammelech, and Amad, and Mishal; and it reached to Carmel westward, and to Shihor-libnath;

Y tornando de donde nace el sol á Beth-dagón, llega á Zabulón, y al valle de Iphtael al norte, á Beth-emec, y á Nehiel, y sale á Cabul á la izquierda;

and it turned toward the sunrising to Beth-dagon, and reached to Zebulun, and to the valley of Iphtah-el northward to Beth-emek and Neiel; and it went out to Cabul on the left hand,

Y abraza á Hebrón, y Rehob, y Hammón, y Cana, hasta la gran Sidón;

and Ebron, and Rehob, and Hammon, and Kanah, even unto great Sidon;

Y torna de allí este término á Horma, y hasta la fuerte ciudad de Tiro, y torna este término á Hosa, y sale á la mar desde el territorio de Achzib:

and the border turned to Ramah, and to the fortified city of Tyre; and the border turned to Hosah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea by the region of Achzib;

Abraza también Umma, y Aphec, y Rehob: veinte y dos ciudades con sus aldeas.

Ummah also, and Aphek, and Rehob: twenty and two cities with their villages.

Esta es la heredad de la tribu de los hijos de Aser por sus familias; estas ciudades con sus aldeas.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families, these cities with their villages.

La sexta suerte salió por los hijos de Nephtalí, por los hijos de Nephtalí conforme á sus familias.

The sixth lot came out for the children of Naphtali, even for the children of Naphtali according to their families.

Y fué su término desde Heleph, y Allón-saananim, y Adami-neceb, y Jabneel, hasta Lacum; y sale al Jordán;

And their border was from Heleph, from the oak in Zaanannim, and Adaminekeb, and Jabneel, unto Lakkum; and the goings out thereof were at the Jordan;

Y tornando de allí este término hacia el occidente á Aznot-tabor, pasa de allí á Hucuca, y llega hasta Zabulón al mediodía, y al occidente confina con Aser, y con Judá al Jordán hacia donde nace el sol.

and the border turned westward to Aznoth-tabor, and went out from thence to Hukkok; and it reached to Zebulun on the south, and reached to Asher on the west, and to Judah at the Jordan toward the sunrising.

Y las ciudades fuertes son Siddim, Ser, y Hamath, Raccath, y Cinneroth,

And the fortified cities were Ziddim, Zer, and Hammath, Rakkath, and Chinnereth,

Y Adama, y Rama, y Asor,

and Adamah, and Ramah, and Hazor,

Y Cedes, y Edrei, y En-hasor,

and Kedesh, and Edrei, and En-hazor,

E Irón, y Migdalel, y Horem, y Beth-anath, y Beth-semes: diez y nueve ciudades con sus aldeas.

And Iron, and Migdal-el, Horem, and Beth-anath, and Beth-shemesh; nineteen cities with their villages.

Esta es la heredad de la tribu de los hijos de Nephtalí por sus familias; estas ciudades con sus aldeas.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Naphtali according to their families, the cities with their villages.

La séptima suerte salió por la tribu de los hijos de Dan por sus familias.

The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families.

Y fué el término de su heredad, Sora, y Estaol, é Ir-semes,

And the border of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Ir-shemesh,

Y Saalabín, y Ailón, y Jeth-la,

and Shaalabbin, and Aijalon, and Ithlah,

Y Elón, y Timnatha, y Ecrón,

and Elon, and Timnah, and Ekron,

Y Eltechê, Gibbethón, y Baalath,

and Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath,

Y Jehud, y Bene-berác, y Gath-rimmón,

and Jehud, and Bene-berak, and Gath-rimmon,

Y Mejarcón, y Raccón, con el término que está delante de Joppa.

and Me-jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border over against Joppa.

Y faltóles término á los hijos de Dan; y subieron los hijos de Dan y combatieron á Lesem, y tomándola metiéronla á filo de espada, y la poseyeron, y habitaron en ella; y llamaron á Lesem, Dan, del nombre de Dan su padre.

And the border of the children of Dan went out beyond them; for the children of Dan went up and fought against Leshem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

Esta es la heredad de la tribu de los hijos de Dan conforme á sus familias; estas ciudades con sus aldeas.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families, these cities with their villages.

Y después que acabaron de repartir la tierra en heredad por sus términos, dieron los hijos de Israel heredad á Josué hijo de Nun en medio de ellos:

So they made an end of distributing the land for inheritance by the borders thereof; and the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun in the midst of them:

Según la palabra de Jehová, le dieron la ciudad que él pidió, Timnath-sera, en el monte de Ephraim; y él reedificó la ciudad, y habitó en ella.

according to the commandment of Jehovah they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnath-serah in the hill-country of Ephraim; and he built the city, and dwelt therein.

Estas son las heredades que Eleazar sacerdote, y Josué hijo de Nun, y los principales de los padres, entregaron por suerte en posesión á las tribus de los hijos de Israel en Silo delante de Jehová, á la entrada del tabernáculo del testimonio; y acabaron de repartir la tierra.

These are the inheritances, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers` [houses] of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance by lot in Shiloh before Jehovah, at the door of the tent of meeting. So they made an end of dividing the land.

Capítulo 20

Y HABLÓ Jehová á Josué, diciendo:

And Jehovah spake unto Joshua, saying,

Habla á los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Señalaos las ciudades de refugio, de las cuales yo os hablé por Moisés;

Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Assign you the cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by Moses,

Para que se acoja allí el homicida que matare á alguno por yerro y no á sabiendas; que os sean por acogimiento del cercano del muerto.

that the manslayer that killeth any person unwittingly [and] unawares may flee thither: and they shall be unto you for a refuge from the avenger of blood.

Y el que se acogiere á alguna de aquellas ciudades, presentaráse á la puerta de la ciudad, y dirá sus causas, oyéndolo los ancianos de aquella ciudad: y ellos le recibirán consigo dentro de la ciudad, y le darán lugar que habite con ellos.

And he shall flee unto one of those cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city; and they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

Y cuando el cercano del muerto le siguiere, no entregarán en su mano al homicida, por cuanto hirió á su prójimo por yerro, ni tuvo con él antes enemistad.

And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver up the manslayer into his hand; because he smote his neighbor unawares, and hated him not beforetime.

Y quedará en aquella ciudad hasta que parezca en juicio delante del ayuntamiento, hasta la muerte del gran sacerdote que fuere en aquel tiempo: entonces el homicida tornará y vendrá á su ciudad y á su casa y á la ciudad de donde huyó.

And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the manslayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.

Entonces señalaron á Cedes en Galilea, en el monte de Nephtalí, y á Sichêm en el monte de Ephraim, y á Chîriath-arba, que es Hebrón, en el monte de Judá.

And they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (the same is Hebron) in the hill-country of Judah.

Y de la otra parte del Jordán de Jericó, al oriente, señalaron á Beser en el desierto, en la llanura de la tribu de Rubén, y á Ramoth en Galaad de la tribu de Gad, y á Gaulón en Basán de la tribu de Manasés.

And beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

Estas fueron las ciudades señaladas para todos los hijos de Israel, y para el extranjero que morase entre ellos, para que se acogiese á ellas cualquiera que hiriese hombre por yerro, y no muriese por mano del cercano del muerto, hasta que compareciese delante del ayuntamiento.

These were the appointed cities for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person unwittingly might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

Capítulo 21

Y LOS principales de los padres de los Levitas vinieron á Eleazar sacerdote, y á Josué hijo de Nun, y á los principales de los padres de las tribus de los hijos de Israel;

Then came near the heads of fathers` [houses] of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the heads of fathers` [houses] of the tribes of the children of Israel;

Y habláronles en Silo en la tierra de Canaán, diciendo: Jehová mandó por Moisés que nos fuesen dadas villas para habitar, con sus ejidos para nuestras bestias.

and they spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, Jehovah commanded Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle.

Entonces los hijos de Israel dieron á los Levitas de sus posesiones, conforme á la palabra de Jehová, estas villas con sus ejidos.

And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, according to the commandment of Jehovah, these cities with their suburbs.

Y salió la suerte por las familias de los Coathitas; y fueron dadas por suerte á los hijos de Aarón sacerdote, que eran de los Levitas, por la tribu de Judá, por la de Simeón y por la de Benjamín, trece villas.

And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of the Simeonites, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.

Y á los otros hijos de Coath se dieron por suerte diez villas de las familias de la tribu de Ephraim, y de la tribu de Dan, y de la media tribu de Manasés;

And the rest of the children of Kohath had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities.

Y á los hijos de Gersón, por las familias de la tribu de Issachâr, y de la tribu de Aser, y de la tribu de Nephtalí, y de la media tribu de Manasés en Basán, fueron dadas por suerte trece villas.

And the children of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.

A los hijos de Merari por sus familias se dieron doce villas por la tribu de Rubén, y por la tribu de Gad, y por la tribu de Zabulón.

The children of Merari according to their families had out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

Y así dieron por suerte los hijos de Israel á los Levitas estas villas con sus ejidos, como Jehová lo había mandado por Moisés.

And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as Jehovah commanded by Moses.

Y de la tribu de los hijos de Judá, y de la tribu de los hijos de Simeón dieron estas villas que fueron nombradas:

And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are [here] mentioned by name:

Y la primera suerte fué de los hijos de Aarón, de la familia de Coath, de los hijos de Leví;

and they were for the children of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi; for theirs was the first lot.

A los cuales dieron Chîriath-arba, del padre de Anac, la cual es Hebrón, en el monte de Judá, con sus ejidos en sus contornos.

And they gave them Kiriath-arba, [which Arba was] the father of Anak (the same is Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah, with the suburbs thereof round about it.

Mas el campo de aquesta ciudad y sus aldeas dieron á Caleb hijo de Jephone, por su posesión.

But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, gave they to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.

Y á los hijos de Aarón sacerdote dieron la ciudad de refugio para los homicidas, á Hebrón con sus ejidos; y á Libna con sus ejidos,

And unto the children of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Libnah with its suburbs,

Y á Jattir con sus ejidos, y á Estemoa con sus ejidos,

and Jattir with its suburbs, and Eshtemoa with its suburbs,

A Helón con sus ejidos, y á Debir con sus ejidos,

and Holon with its suburbs, and Debir with its suburbs,

A Ain con sus ejidos, á Jutta con sus ejidos, y á Beth-semes con sus ejidos; nueve villas de estas dos tribus:

and Ain with its suburbs, and Juttah with its suburbs, [and] Beth-shemesh with its suburbs; nine cities out of those two tribes.

Y de la tribu de Benjamín, á Gibeón con sus ejidos, á Geba con sus ejidos,

And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its suburbs, Geba with its suburbs,

A Anathoth con sus ejidos, á Almón con sus ejidos: cuatro villas.

Anathoth with its suburbs, and Almon with its suburbs; four cities.

Todas las villas de los sacerdotes, hijos de Aarón, son trece con sus ejidos.

All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their suburbs.

Mas las familias de los hijos de Coath, Levitas, los que quedaban de los hijos de Coath, recibieron por suerte villas de la tribu de Ephraim.

And the families of the children of Kohath, the Levites, even the rest of the children of Kohath, they had the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephraim.

Y diéronles á Sichêm, villa de refugio para los homicidas, con sus ejidos, en el monte de Ephraim; y á Geser con sus ejidos,

And they gave them Shechem with its suburbs in the hill-country of Ephraim, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Gezer with its suburbs,

Y á Kibsaim con sus ejidos, y á Beth-oron con sus ejidos: cuatro villas:

and Kibzaim with its suburbs, and Beth-horon with its suburbs; four cities.

Y de la tribu de Dan á Eltheco con sus ejidos, á Gibethón con sus ejidos,

And out of the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its suburbs, Gibbethon with its suburbs,

A Ayalón con sus ejidos, á Gath-rimmón con sus ejidos: cuatro villas:

Aijalon with its suburbs, Gath-rimmon with its suburbs; four cities.

Y de la media tribu de Manasés, á Taanach con sus ejidos, y á Gath-rimmón con sus ejidos: dos villas.

And out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its suburbs, and Gath-rimmon with its suburbs; two cities.

Todas las villas para el resto de las familias de los hijos de Coath fueron diez con sus ejidos.

All the cities of the families of the rest of the children of Kohath were ten with their suburbs.

A los hijos de Gersón de las familias de los Levitas, dieron la villa de refugio para los homicidas, de la media tribu de Manasés: á Gaulón en Basán con sus ejidos, y á Bosra con sus ejidos: dos villas.

And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the half-tribe of Manasseh [they gave] Golan in Bashan with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Be-eshterah with its suburbs; two cities.

Y de la tribu de Issachâr, á Cesión con sus ejidos, á Dabereth con sus ejidos,

And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its suburbs, Daberath with its suburbs,

A Jarmuth con sus ejidos, y á En-gannim con sus ejidos: cuatro villas:

Jarmuth with its suburbs, En-gannim with its suburbs; four cities.

Y de la tribu de Aser, á Miseal con sus ejidos, á Abdón con sus ejidos,

And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its suburbs, Abdon with its suburbs,

A Helchâth con sus ejidos, y á Rehob con sus ejidos: cuatro villas:

Helkath with its suburbs, and Rehob with its suburbs; four cities.

Y de la tribu de Nephtalí, la villa de refugio para los homicidas, á Cedes en Galilea con sus ejidos, á Hammoth-dor con sus ejidos, y á Cartán con sus ejidos: tres villas:

And out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Hammoth-dor with its suburbs, and Kartan with its suburbs; three cities.

Todas las villas de los Gersonitas por sus familias fueron trece villas con sus ejidos.

All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their suburbs.

Y á las familias de los hijos de Merari, Levitas que quedaban, dióseles de la tribu de Zabulón, á Jocneam con sus ejidos, Cartha con sus ejidos,

And unto the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its suburbs, and Kartah with its suburbs,

Dimna con sus ejidos, Naalal con sus ejidos: cuatro villas:

Dimnah with its suburbs, Nahalal with its suburbs; four cities.

Y de la tribu de Rubén, á Beser con sus ejidos, á Jasa con sus ejidos,

And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its suburbs, and Jahaz with its suburbs,

A Cedemoth con sus ejidos, y Mephaat con sus ejidos: cuatro villas:

Kedemoth with its suburbs, and Mephaath with its suburbs; four cities.

De la tribu de Gad, la villa de refugio para los homicidas, Ramoth en Galaad con sus ejidos, y Mahanaim con sus ejidos,

And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Mahanaim with its suburbs,

Hesbón con sus ejidos, y Jacer con sus ejidos: cuatro villas.

Heshbon with its suburbs, Jazer with its suburbs; four cities in all.

Todas las villas de los hijos de Merari por sus familias, que restaban de las familias de los Levitas, fueron por sus suertes doce villas.

All [these were] the cities of the children of Merari according to their families, even the rest of the families of the Levites; and their lot was twelve cities.

Y todas la villas de los Levitas en medio de la posesión de los hijos de Israel, fueron cuarenta y ocho villas con sus ejidos.

All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.

Y estas ciudades estaban apartadas la una de la otra cada cual con sus ejidos alrededor de ellas: lo cual fué en todas estas ciudades.

These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus it was with all these cities.

Así dió Jehová á Israel toda la tierra que había jurado dar á sus padres; y poseyéronla, y habitaron en ella.

So Jehovah gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.

Y Jehová les dió reposo alrededor, conforme á todo lo que había jurado á sus padres: y ninguno de todos los enemigos les paró delante, sino que Jehová entregó en sus manos á todos sus enemigos.

And Jehovah gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; Jehovah delivered all their enemies into their hand.

No faltó palabra de todas la buenas que habló Jehová á la casa de Israel; todo se cumplió.

There failed not aught of any good thing which Jehovah had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

Capítulo 22

ENTONCES Josué llamó á los Rubenitas y á los Gaditas, y á la media tribu de Manasés,

Then Joshua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh,

Y díjoles: Vosotros habéis guardado todo lo que Moisés siervo de Jehová os mandó, y habéis obedecido á mi voz en todo lo que os he mandado.

and said unto them, Ye have kept all that Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, and have hearkened unto my voice in all that I commanded you:

No habéis dejado á vuestros hermanos en estos muchos días hasta hoy, antes habéis guardado la observancia de los mandamientos de Jehová vuestro Dios.

ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of Jehovah your God.

Ahora pues que Jehová vuestro Dios ha dado reposo á vuestros hermanos, como se lo había prometido, volved, y tornad á vuestras tiendas, á la tierra de vuestras posesiones, que Moisés siervo de Jehová os dió de la otra parte del Jordán.

And now Jehovah your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as he spake unto them: therefore now turn ye, and get you unto your tents, unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you beyond the Jordan.

Solamente que con diligencia cuidéis de poner por obra el mandamiento y la ley, que Moisés siervo de Jehová os intimó: que améis á Jehová vuestro Dios, y andéis en todos sus caminos; que guardéis sus mandamientos, y os alleguéis á él, y le sirváis de todo vuestro corazón y de toda vuestra alma.

Only take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, to love Jehovah your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Y bendiciéndolos Josué, los envió: y fuéronse á sus tiendas.

So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away; and they went unto their tents.

También á la media tribu de Manasés había dado Moisés posesión en Basán; mas á la otra media dió Josué heredad entre sus hermanos de estotra parte del Jordán al occidente: y también á éstos envió Josué á sus tiendas, después de haberlos bendecido.

Now to the one half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given [inheritance] in Bashan; but unto the other half gave Joshua among their brethren beyond the Jordan westward; moreover when Joshua sent them away unto their tents, he blessed them,

Y hablóles, diciendo: Volveos á vuestras tiendas con grandes riquezas, y con grande copia de ganado, con plata, y con oro, y metal, y muchos vestidos: partid con vuestros hermanos el despojo de vuestros enemigos.

and spake unto them, saying, Return with much wealth unto your tents, and with very much cattle, with silver, and with gold, and with brass, and with iron, and with very much raiment: divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.

Y los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad, y la media tribu de Manasés, se tornaron, y partiéronse de los hijos de Israel, de Silo, que está en la tierra de Canaán, para ir á la tierra de Galaad, á la tierra de sus posesiones, de la cual eran poseedores, según la palabra de Jehová por mano de Moisés.

And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the land of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the commandment of Jehovah by Moses.

Y llegando á los términos del Jordán, que está en la tierra de Canaán, los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad, y la media tribu de Manasés, edificaron allí un altar junto al Jordán, un altar de grande apariencia.

And when they came unto the region about the Jordan, that is in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, a great altar to look upon.

Y los hijos de Israel oyeron decir como los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad, y la media tribu de Manasés, habían edificado un altar delante de la tierra de Canaán, en los términos del Jordán, al paso de los hijos de Israel:

And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar in the forefront of the land of Canaan, in the region about the Jordan, on the side that pertaineth to the children of Israel.

Lo cual como los hijos de Israel oyeron, juntóse toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel en Silo, para subir á pelear contra ellos.

And when the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up against them to war.

Y enviaron los hijos de Israel á los hijos de Rubén y á los hijos de Gad y á la media tribu de Manasés en la tierra de Galaad, á Phinees hijo de Eleazar sacerdote,

And the children of Israel sent unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,

Y á diez príncipes con él; un príncipe de cada casa paterna de todas las tribus de Israel, cada uno de los cuales era cabeza de familia de sus padres en la multitud de Israel.

and with him ten princes, one prince of a fathers` house for each of the tribes of Israel; and they were every one of them head of their fathers` houses among the thousands of Israel.

Los cuales vinieron á los hijos de Rubén y á los hijos de Gad, y á la media tribu de Manasés, en la tierra de Galaad; y habláronles, diciendo:

And they came unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, unto the land of Gilead, and they spake with them, saying,

Toda la congregación de Jehová dice así: ¿Qué transgresión es ésta con que prevaricáis contra el Dios de Israel, volviéndoos hoy de seguir á Jehová, edificándoos altar para ser hoy rebeldes contra Jehová?

Thus saith the whole congregation of Jehovah, What trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following Jehovah, in that ye have builded you an altar, to rebel this day against Jehovah?

¿Nos ha sido poco la maldad de Peor, de la que no estamos aún limpios hasta este día, por la cual fué la mortandad en la congregación de Jehová?

Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves unto this day, although there came a plague upon the congregation of Jehovah,

Y vosotros os volvéis hoy de seguir á Jehová; mas será que vosotros os rebelaréis hoy contra Jehová, y mañana se airará él contra toda la congregación de Israel.

that ye must turn away this day from following Jehovah? and it will be, seeing ye rebel to-day against Jehovah, that to-morrow he will be wroth with the whole congregation of Israel.

Que si os parece que la tierra de vuestra posesión es inmunda, pasaos á la tierra de la posesión de Jehová, en la cual está el tabernáculo de Jehová, y tomad posesión entre nosotros; pero no os rebeléis contra Jehová, ni os rebeléis contra nosotros, edificándoos altar á más del altar de Jehová nuestro Dios.

Howbeit, if the land of your possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of Jehovah, wherein Jehovah`s tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among us: but rebel not against Jehovah, nor rebel against us, in building you an altar besides the altar of Jehovah our God.

¿No cometió Achân, hijo de Zera, prevaricación en el anatema, y vino ira sobre toda la congregación de Israel? y aquel hombre no pereció solo en su iniquidad.

Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.

Entonces los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad, y la media tribu de Manasés, respondieron y dijeron á los principales de la multitud de Israel:

Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh answered, and spake unto the heads of the thousands of Israel,

El Dios de los dioses, Jehová, el Dios de los dioses, Jehová, él sabe, y sabrá Israel: si por rebelión ó por prevaricación contra Jehová (no nos salves hoy,)

The Mighty One, God, Jehovah, the Mighty One, God, Jehovah, he knoweth; and Israel he shall know: if it be in rebellion, or if in trespass against Jehovah (save thou us not this day,)

Nos hemos edificado altar para tornarnos de en pos de Jehová, ó para sacrificar holocausto ó presente, ó para hacer sobre él sacrificios pacíficos, el mismo Jehová nos lo demande.

that we have built us an altar to turn away from following Jehovah; or if to offer thereon burnt-offering or meal-offering, or if to offer sacrifices of peace-offerings thereon, let Jehovah himself require it;

Asimismo, si no lo hicimos por temor de esto, diciendo: Mañana vuestros hijos dirán á nuestros hijos: ¿Qué tenéis vosotros con Jehová el Dios de Israel?;

and if we have not [rather] out of carefulness done this, [and] of purpose, saying, In time to come your children might speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with Jehovah, the God of Israel?

Jehová ha puesto por término el Jordán entre nosotros y vosotros, oh hijos de Rubén é hijos de Gad; no tenéis vosotros parte en Jehová: y así vuestros hijos harán que nuestros hijos no teman á Jehová.

for Jehovah hath made the Jordan a border between us and you, ye children of Reuben and children of Gad; ye have no portion in Jehovah: so might your children make our children cease from fearing Jehovah.

Por esto dijimos: Hagamos ahora por edificarnos un altar, no para holocausto ni para sacrificio,

Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrifice:

Sino para que sea un testimonio entre nosotros y vosotros, y entre los que vendrán después de nosotros, de que podemos hacer el servicio de Jehová delante de él con nuestros holocaustos, con nuestros sacrificios, y con nuestros pacíficos; y no digan mañana vuestros hijos á los nuestros: Vosotros no tenéis parte en Jehová.

but it shall be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we may do the service of Jehovah before him with our burnt-offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace-offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no portion in Jehovah.

Nosotros, pues, dijimos: Si aconteciere que tal digan á nosotros, ó á nuestras generaciones en lo por venir, entonces responderemos: Mirad el símil del altar de Jehová, el cual hicieron nuestros padres, no para holocaustos ó sacrificios, sino para que fuese testimonio entre nosotros y vosotros.

Therefore said we, It shall be, when they so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we shall say, Behold the pattern of the altar of Jehovah, which our fathers made, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrifice; but it is a witness between us and you.

Nunca tal acontezca que nos rebelemos contra Jehová, ó que nos apartemos hoy de seguir á Jehová, edificando altar para holocaustos, para presente, ó para sacrificio, á más del altar de Jehová nuestro Dios que está delante de su tabernáculo.

Far be it from us that we should rebel against Jehovah, and turn away this day from following Jehovah, to build an altar for burnt-offering, for meal-offering, or for sacrifice, besides the altar of Jehovah our God that is before his tabernacle.

Y oyendo Phinees el sacerdote y los príncipes de la congregación, y las cabezas de la multitud de Israel que con él estaban, las palabras que hablaron los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Manasés, fueron contentos de ello.

And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation, even the heads of the thousands of Israel that were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spake, it pleased them well.

Y dijo Phinees hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, á los hijos de Rubén, á los hijos de Gad, y á los hijos de Manasés: Hoy hemos entendido que Jehová está entre nosotros, pues que no habéis intentado esta traición contra Jehová. Ahora habéis librado á los hijos de Israel de la mano de Jehová.

And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, This day we know that Jehovah is in the midst of us, because ye have not committed this trespass against Jehovah: now have ye delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of Jehovah.

Y Phinees hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, y los príncipes, volviéronse de con los hijos de Rubén, y de con los hijos de Gad, de la tierra de Galaad á la tierra de Canaán, á los hijos de Israel: á los cuales dieron la respuesta.

And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again.

Y el negocio plugo á los hijos de Israel, y bendijeron á Dios los hijos de Israel; y no hablaron más de subir contra ellos en guerra, para destruir la tierra en que habitaban los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad.

And the thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and spake no more of going up against them to war, to destroy the land wherein the children of Reuben and the children of Gad dwelt.

Y los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad pusieron por nombre al altar Ed; porque es testimonio entre nosotros que Jehová es Dios.

And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar [Ed]: For, [said they], it is a witness between us that Jehovah is God.

Capítulo 23

Y ACONTECIÓ, pasados muchos días después que Jehová dió reposo á Israel de todos sus enemigos al contorno, que Josué, siendo viejo, y entrado en días,

And it came to pass after many days, when Jehovah had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua was old and well stricken in years;

Llamó á todo Israel, á sus ancianos, á sus príncipes, á sus jueces y á sus oficiales, y díjoles: Yo soy ya viejo y entrado en días:

that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old and well stricken in years:

Y vosotros habéis visto todo lo que Jehová vuestro Dios ha hecho con todas estas gentes en vuestra presencia; porque Jehová vuestro Dios ha peleado por vosotros.

and ye have seen all that Jehovah your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for Jehovah your God, he it is that hath fought for you.

He aquí os he repartido por suerte, en herencia para vuestras tribus, estas gentes, así las destruídas como las que quedan, desde el Jordán hasta la gran mar hacia donde el sol se pone.

Behold, I have allotted unto you these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun.

Y Jehová vuestro Dios las echará de delante de vosotros, y las lanzará de vuestra presencia: y vosotros poseeréis sus tierras, como Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dicho.

And Jehovah your God, he will thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as Jehovah your God spake unto you.

Esforzaos pues mucho á guardar y hacer todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, sin apartaros de ello ni á la diestra ni á la siniestra;

Therefore be ye very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left;

Que cuando entrareis á estas gentes que han quedado con vosotros, no hagáis mención ni juréis por el nombre de sus dioses, ni los sirváis, ni os inclinéis á ellos:

that ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear [by them], neither serve them, nor bow down yourselves unto them;

Mas á Jehová vuestro Dios os allegaréis, como habéis hecho hasta hoy;

but cleave unto Jehovah your God, as ye have done unto this day.

Pues ha echado Jehová delante de vosotros grandes y fuertes naciones, y hasta hoy nadie ha podido parar delante de vuestro rostro.

For Jehovah hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath stood before you unto this day.

Un varón de vosotros perseguirá á mil: porque Jehová vuestro Dios pelea por vosotros, como él os dijo.

One man of you shall chase a thousand; for Jehovah your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he spake unto you.

Por tanto, cuidad mucho por vuestras almas, que améis á Jehová vuestro Dios.

Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love Jehovah your God.

Porque si os apartareis, y os allegareis á lo que resta de aquestas gentes que han quedado con vosotros, y si concertareis con ellas matrimonios, y entrareis á ellas, y ellas á vosotros;

Else if ye do at all go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you;

Sabed que Jehová vuestro Dios no echará más estas gentes delante de vosotros; antes os serán por lazo, y por tropiezo, y por azote para vuestros costados, y por espinas para vuestros ojos, hasta tanto que perezcáis de aquesta buena tierra que Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dado.

know for a certainty that Jehovah your God will no more drive these nations from out of your sight; but they shall be a snare and a trap unto you, and a scourge in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which Jehovah your God hath given you.

Y he aquí que yo estoy para entrar hoy por el camino de toda la tierra: reconoced, pues, con todo vuestro corazón y con toda vuestra alma, que no se ha perdido una palabra de todas la buenas palabras que Jehová vuestro Dios había dicho de vosotros: todas os han venido, no se ha perdido de ellas ni una.

And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which Jehovah your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, not one thing hath failed thereof.

Mas será, que como ha venido sobre vosotros toda palabra buena que Jehová vuestro Dios os había dicho, así también traerá Jehová sobre vosotros toda palabra mala, hasta destruiros de sobre la buena tierra que Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dado;

And it shall come to pass, that as all the good things are come upon you of which Jehovah your God spake unto you, so will Jehovah bring upon you all the evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which Jehovah your God hath given you.

Cuando traspasareis el pacto de Jehová vuestro Dios que él os ha mandado, yendo y honrando dioses ajenos, é inclinándoos á ellos. Y el furor de Jehová se inflamará contra vosotros, y luego pereceréis de aquesta buena tierra que él os ha dado.

When ye transgress the covenant of Jehovah your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them; then will the anger of Jehovah be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.

Capítulo 24

Y JUNTANDO Josué todas las tribus de Israel en Sichêm, llamó á los ancianos de Israel, y á sus príncipes, á sus jueces, y á sus oficiales; y presentáronse delante de Dios.

And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

Y dijo Josué á todo el pueblo: Así dice Jehová, Dios de Israel: Vuestros padres habitaron antiguamente de esotra parte del río, es á saber, Tharé, padre de Abraham y de Nachôr; y servían á dioses extraños.

And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt of old time beyond the River, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nahor: and they served other gods.

Y yo tomé á vuestro padre Abraham de la otra parte del río, y trájelo por toda la tierra de Canaán, y aumenté su generación, y díle á Isaac.

And I took your father Abraham from beyond the River, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.

Y á Isaac dí á Jacob y á Esaú: y á Esaú dí el monte de Seir, que lo poseyese: mas Jacob y sus hijos descendieron á Egipto.

And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it: and Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

Y yo envié á Moisés y á Aarón, y herí á Egipto, al modo que lo hice en medio de él, y después os saqué.

And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did in the midst thereof: and afterward I brought you out.

Y saqué á vuestros padres de Egipto: y como llegaron á la mar, los Egipcios siguieron á vuestros padres hasta el mar Bermejo con carros y caballería.

And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and with horsemen unto the Red Sea.

Y como ellos clamasen á Jehová, él puso oscuridad entre vosotros y los Egipcios, é hizo venir sobre ellos la mar, la cual los cubrió: y vuestros ojos vieron lo que hice en Egipto. Después estuvisteis muchos días en el desierto.

And when they cried out unto Jehovah, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes saw what I did in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness many days.

Y os introduje en la tierra de los Amorrheos, que habitaban de la otra parte del Jordán, los cuales pelearon contra vosotros; mas yo los entregué en vuestras manos, y poseísteis su tierra, y los destruí de delante de vosotros.

And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, that dwelt beyond the Jordan: and they fought with you; and I gave them into your hand, and ye possessed their land; and I destroyed them from before you.

Y levantóse después Balac hijo de Sephor, rey de los Moabitas, y peleó contra Israel; y envió á llamar á Balaam hijo de Beor, para que os maldijese.

Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and fought against Israel: and he sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you;

Mas yo no quise escuchar á Balaam, antes os bendijo repetidamente, y os libré de sus manos.

but I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.

Y pasado el Jordán, vinisteis á Jericó; y los moradores de Jericó pelearon contra vosotros: los Amorrheos, Pherezeos, Cananeos, Hetheos, Gergeseos, Heveos, y Jebuseos: y yo los entregué en vuestras manos.

And ye went over the Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I delivered them into your hand.

Y envié tábanos delante de vosotros, los cuales los echaron de delante de vosotros, á saber, á los dos reyes de los Amorrheos; no con tu espada, ni con tu arco.

And I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.

Y os dí la tierra por la cual nada trabajasteis, y las ciudades que no edificasteis, en las cuales moráis; y de las viñas y olivares que no plantasteis, coméis.

And I gave you a land whereon thou hadst not labored, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell therein; of vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

Ahora pues, temed á Jehová, y servidle con integridad y en verdad; y quitad de en medio los dioses á los cuales sirvieron vuestros padres de esotra parte del río, y en Egipto; y servid á Jehová.

Now therefore fear Jehovah, and serve him in sincerity and in truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt; and serve ye Jehovah.

Y si mal os parece servir á Jehová, escogeos hoy á quién sirváis; si á los dioses á quienes sirvieron vuestros padres, cuando estuvieron de esotra parte del río, ó á los dioses de los Amorrheos en cuya tierra habitáis: que yo y mi casa serviremos á Jehová.

And if it seem evil unto you to serve Jehovah, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.

Entonces el pueblo respondió, y dijo: Nunca tal acontezca, que dejemos á Jehová por servir á otros dioses:

And the people answered and said, Far be it from us that we should forsake Jehovah, to serve other gods;

Porque Jehová nuestro Dios es el que nos sacó á nosotros y á nuestros padres de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre; el cual delante de nuestros ojos ha hecho estas grandes señales, y nos ha guardado por todo el camino por donde hemos andado, y en todos los pueblos por entre los cuales pasamos.

for Jehovah our God, he it is that brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and that did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the peoples through the midst of whom we passed;

Y Jehová echó de delante de nosotros á todos los pueblos, y al Amorrheo que habitaba en la tierra: nosotros, pues, también serviremos á Jehová, porque él es nuestro Dios.

and Jehovah drove out from before us all the peoples, even the Amorites that dwelt in the land: therefore we also will serve Jehovah; for he is our God.

Entonces Josué dijo al pueblo: No podréis servir á Jehová, porque él es Dios santo, y Dios celoso; no sufrirá vuestras rebeliones y vuestros pecados.

And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve Jehovah; for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgression nor your sins.

Si dejareis á Jehová y sirviereis á dioses ajenos, se volverá, y os maltratará, y os consumirá, después que os ha hecho bien.

If ye forsake Jehovah, and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you evil, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.

El pueblo entonces dijo á Josué: No, antes á Jehová serviremos.

And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve Jehovah.

Y Josué respondió al pueblo: Vosotros sois testigos contra vosotros mismos, de que os habéis elegido á Jehová para servirle. Y ellos respondieron: Testigos somos.

And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you Jehovah, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.

Quitad, pues, ahora los dioses ajenos que están entre vosotros, é inclinad vuestro corazón á Jehová Dios de Israel.

Now therefore put away, [said he], the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto Jehovah, the God of Israel.

Y el pueblo respondió á Josué: A Jehová nuestro Dios serviremos, y á su voz obedeceremos.

And the people said unto Joshua, Jehovah our God will we serve, and unto his voice will we hearken.

Entonces Josué hizo alianza con el pueblo el mismo día, y púsole ordenanzas y leyes en Sichêm.

So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.

Y escribió Josué estas palabras en el libro de la ley de Dios; y tomando una grande piedra, levantóla allí debajo de un alcornoque que estaba junto al santuario de Jehová.

And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God; and he took a great stone, and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Jehovah.

Y dijo Josué á todo el pueblo: He aquí esta piedra será entre nosotros por testigo, la cual ha oído todas las palabras de Jehová que él ha hablado con nosotros: será, pues, testigo contra vosotros, porque no mintáis contra vuestro Dios.

And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness against us; for it hath heard all the words of Jehovah which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness against you, lest ye deny your God.

Y envió Josué al pueblo, cada uno á su heredad.

So Joshua sent the people away, every man unto his inheritance.

Y después de estas cosas murió Josué, hijo de Nun, siervo de Jehová, siendo de ciento y diez años.

And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Jehovah, died, being a hundred and ten years old.

Y enterráronlo en el término de su posesión en Timnath-sera, que está en el monte de Ephraim, al norte del monte de Gaas.

And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.

Y sirvió Israel á Jehová todo el tiempo de Josué, y todo el tiempo de los ancianos que vivieron después de Josué, y que sabían todas las obras de Jehová, que había hecho por Israel.

And Israel served Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, and had known all the work of Jehovah, that he had wrought for Israel.

Y enterraron en Sichêm los huesos de José que los hijos de Israel habían traído de Egipto, en la parte del campo que Jacob compró de los hijos de Hemor padre de Sichêm, por cien corderas; y fué en posesión á los hijos de José.

And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in the parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for a hundred pieces of money: and they became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.

También murió Eleazar, hijo de Aarón; al cual enterraron en el collado de Phinees su hijo, que le fué dado en el monte de Ephraim.

And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given him in the hill-country of Ephraim.
