The conquest and division of the land of Canaan

The narrative of Israel's entry into Canaan under Joshua, the conquest of Jericho and other cities, and the territorial allotment among the twelve tribes. It closes with Joshua's covenant renewal at Shechem.

Kapitel 1

Und es geschah nach dem Tode Moses, des Knechtes Jehovas, da sprach Jehova zu Josua, dem Sohne Nuns, dem Diener Moses, und sagte:

Now it came to pass after the death of Moses the servant of Jehovah, that Jehovah spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses` minister, saying,

Mein Knecht Mose ist gestorben; und nun, mache dich auf, gehe über diesen Jordan, du und dieses ganze Volk, in das Land, das ich ihnen, den Kindern Israel, gebe.

Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

Jeden Ort, auf den eure Fußsohle treten wird, euch habe ich ihn gegeben, so wie ich zu Mose geredet habe.

Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, to you have I given it, as I spake unto Moses.

Von der Wüste und diesem Libanon bis zum großen Strome, dem Strome Phrat, das ganze Land der Hethiter, und bis zum großen Meere gegen Sonnenuntergang, soll eure Grenze sein.

From the wilderness, and this Lebanon, even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your border.

Es soll niemand vor dir bestehen alle Tage deines Lebens: so wie ich mit Mose gewesen bin, werde ich mit dir sein; ich werde dich nicht versäumen und dich nicht verlassen.

There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life. as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee; I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Sei stark und mutig! denn du, du sollst diesem Volke das Land als Erbe austeilen, das ich ihren Vätern geschworen habe, ihnen zu geben.

Be strong and of good courage; for thou shalt cause this people to inherit the land which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

Nur sei sehr stark und mutig, daß du darauf achtest, zu tun nach dem ganzen Gesetz, welches mein Knecht Mose dir geboten hat. Weiche nicht davon ab zur Rechten noch zur Linken, auf daß es dir gelinge überall, wohin du gehst.

Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest have good success whithersoever thou goest.

Dieses Buch des Gesetzes soll nicht von deinem Munde weichen, und du sollst darüber sinnen Tag und Nacht, auf daß du darauf achtest, zu tun nach allem, was darin geschrieben ist; denn alsdann wirst du auf deinem Wege Erfolg haben, und alsdann wird es dir gelingen.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate thereon day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Habe ich dir nicht geboten: Sei stark und mutig? Erschrick nicht und fürchte dich nicht! denn Jehova, dein Gott, ist mit dir überall, wohin du gehst.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not affrighted, neither be thou dismayed: for Jehovah thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Und Josua gebot den Vorstehern des Volkes und sprach: Gehet mitten durch das Lager und gebietet dem Volke und sprechet:

Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

Bereitet euch Zehrung; denn in noch drei Tagen werdet ihr über diesen Jordan ziehen, um hinzukommen, das Land in Besitz zu nehmen, welches Jehova, euer Gott, euch gibt, es zu besitzen.

Pass through the midst of the camp, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye are to pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which Jehovah your God giveth you to possess it.

Und zu den Rubenitern und zu den Gaditern und zu dem halben Stamme Manasse sprach Josua und sagte:

And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,

Gedenket des Wortes, das Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, euch geboten hat, indem er sprach: Jehova, euer Gott, schafft euch Ruhe und gibt euch dieses Land.

Remember the word which Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, saying, Jehovah your God giveth you rest, and will give you this land.

Eure Weiber, eure Kinder und euer Vieh sollen in dem Lande bleiben, das Mose euch diesseit des Jordan gegeben hat; ihr aber, alle streitbaren Männer, sollt gerüstet vor euren Brüdern hinüberziehen und ihnen helfen,

Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall abide in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan; but ye shall pass over before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valor, and shall help them;

bis Jehova euren Brüdern Ruhe schafft wie euch, und auch sie das Land besitzen, welches Jehova, euer Gott, ihnen gibt. Dann sollt ihr in das Land eures Besitztums zurückkehren und es besitzen, welches Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, euch gegeben hat, diesseit des Jordan, gegen Sonnenaufgang.

until Jehovah have given your brethren rest, as [he hath given] you, and they also have possessed the land which Jehovah your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrising.

Und sie antworteten Josua und sprachen: Alles, was du uns geboten hast, wollen wir tun, und wohin irgend du uns senden wirst, wollen wir gehen.

And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou hast commanded us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us we will go.

Nach allem wie wir Mose gehorcht haben, also wollen wir dir gehorchen. Nur möge Jehova, dein Gott, mit dir sein, wie er mit Mose gewesen ist!

According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only Jehovah thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

Jedermann, der deinem Befehle widerspenstig ist und nicht auf deine Worte hört in allem, was du uns gebietest, soll getötet werden. Nur sei stark und mutig!

Whosoever he be that shall rebel against thy commandment, and shall not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of good courage.

Kapitel 2

Und Josua, der Sohn Nuns, sandte von Sittim heimlich zwei Männer als Kundschafter aus und sprach: Gehet, besehet das Land und Jericho. Und sie gingen hin und kamen in das Haus einer Hure, namens Rahab; und sie legten sich daselbst nieder.

And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men as spies secretly, saying, Go, view the land, and Jericho. And they went and came into the house of a harlot whose name was Rahab, and lay there.

Und es wurde dem König von Jericho berichtet und gesagt: Siehe, es sind in dieser Nacht Männer von den Kindern Israel hierhergekommen, um das Land zu erforschen.

And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to-night of the children of Israel to search out the land.

Da sandte der König von Jericho zu Rahab und ließ ihr sagen: Führe die Männer heraus, die zu dir gekommen, die in dein Haus eingekehrt sind; denn sie sind gekommen, um das ganze Land zu erforschen.

And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, that are entered into thy house; for they are come to search out all the land.

Das Weib aber nahm die zwei Männer und verbarg sie. Und sie sprach: Allerdings sind die Männer zu mir gekommen, aber ich wußte nicht, woher sie waren;

And the woman took the two men, and hid them; and she said, Yea, the men came unto me, but I knew not whence they were:

und als das Tor beim Dunkelwerden geschlossen werden sollte, da gingen die Männer hinaus; ich weiß nicht, wohin die Männer gegangen sind. Jaget ihnen eilends nach, denn ihr werdet sie erreichen.

and it came to pass about the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out; whither the men went I know not: pursue after them quickly; for ye will overtake them.

Sie hatte sie aber auf das Dach hinaufgeführt und unter Flachsstengel versteckt, die sie sich auf dem Dache aufgeschichtet hatte.

But she had brought them up to the roof, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.

Und die Männer jagten ihnen nach, des Weges zum Jordan, nach den Furten hin; und man schloß das Tor, sobald die, welche ihnen nachjagten, hinaus waren.

And the men pursued after them the way to the Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they that pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

Und ehe sie sich niederlegten, stieg sie zu ihnen auf das Dach hinauf

And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;

und sprach zu den Männern: Ich weiß, daß Jehova euch das Land gegeben hat, und daß euer Schrecken auf uns gefallen ist, und daß alle Bewohner des Landes vor euch verzagt sind.

and she said unto the men, I know that Jehovah hath given you the land, and that the fear of you is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.

Denn wir haben gehört, daß Jehova die Wasser des Schilfmeeres vor euch ausgetrocknet hat, als ihr aus Ägypten zoget, und was ihr den beiden Königen der Amoriter getan, die jenseit des Jordan waren, dem Sihon und dem Og, die ihr verbannt habt.

For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, unto Sihon and to Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

Und wir hörten es, und unser Herz zerschmolz, und es blieb kein Mut mehr vor euch in irgend einem Menschen; denn Jehova, euer Gott, ist Gott im Himmel oben und auf der Erde unten.

And as soon as we had heard it, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Jehovah your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.

Und nun schwöret mir doch bei Jehova, weil ich Güte an euch erwiesen habe, daß auch ihr an meines Vaters Hause Güte erweisen werdet; und gebet mir ein zuverlässiges Zeichen,

Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by Jehovah, since I have dealt kindly with you, that ye also will deal kindly with my father`s house, and give me a true token;

und lasset meinen Vater und meine Mutter und meine Brüder und meine Schwestern und alle ihre Angehörigen am Leben und errettet unsere Seelen vom Tode!

and that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death.

Und die Männer sprachen zu ihr: Unsere Seele soll an eurer Statt sterben, wenn ihr diese unsere Sache nicht verratet; und es soll geschehen, wenn Jehova uns das Land gibt, so werden wir Güte und Treue an dir erweisen.

And the men said unto her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business; and it shall be, when Jehovah giveth us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

Da ließ sie sie an einem Seile durch das Fenster hinunter; denn ihr Haus war in der Stadtmauer, und sie wohnte in der Stadtmauer.

Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the side of the wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

Und sie sprach zu ihnen: Gehet in das Gebirge, damit die Nachjagenden euch nicht treffen; und verberget euch daselbst drei Tage, bis die Nachjagenden zurückgekehrt sind, und danach gehet eures Weges.

And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers light upon you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.

Und die Männer sprachen zu ihr: Wir werden dieses deines Eides ledig sein, den du uns hast schwören lassen:

And the men said unto her, We will be guiltless of this thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

Siehe, wenn wir in das Land kommen, so sollst du diese Schnur von Karmesinfaden in das Fenster binden, durch welches du uns heruntergelassen hast, und sollst deinen Vater und deine Mutter und deine Brüder und das ganze Haus deines Vaters zu dir ins Haus versammeln;

Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt gather unto thee into the house thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father`s household.

und es soll geschehen, wer irgend aus der Tür deines Hauses auf die Straße gehen wird, dessen Blut sei auf seinem Haupte, und wir werden unseres Eides ledig sein. Jeder aber, der bei dir im Hause sein wird, dessen Blut sei auf unserem Haupte, wenn Hand an ihn gelegt wird.

And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we shall be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.

Und wenn du diese unsere Sache verrätst, so werden wir deines Eides ledig sein, den du uns hast schwören lassen.

But if thou utter this our business, then we shall be guiltless of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

Und sie sprach: Nach euren Worten, also sei es! Und sie entließ sie, und sie gingen weg. Und sie band die Karmesinschnur ins Fenster.

And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.

Und sie gingen weg und kamen in das Gebirge und blieben daselbst drei Tage, bis die Nachjagenden zurückgekehrt waren. Und die Nachjagenden suchten sie auf dem ganzen Wege und fanden sie nicht.

And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.

Und die beiden Männer kehrten zurück und stiegen von dem Gebirge herab, und sie gingen hinüber und kamen zu Josua, dem Sohne Nuns; und sie erzählten ihm alles, was ihnen begegnet war.

Then the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun; and they told him all that had befallen them.

Und sie sprachen zu Josua: Jehova hat das ganze Land in unsere Hand gegeben, und auch sind alle Bewohner des Landes vor uns verzagt.

And they said unto Joshua, Truly Jehovah hath delivered into our hands all the land; and moreover all the inhabitants of the land do melt away before us.

Kapitel 3

Da machte sich Josua des Morgens früh auf, und sie brachen auf von Sittim und kamen an den Jordan, er und alle Kinder Israel; und sie rasteten daselbst, ehe sie hinüberzogen.

And Joshua rose up early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel; and they lodged there before they passed over.

Und es geschah am Ende von drei Tagen, da gingen die Vorsteher mitten durch das Lager,

And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the midst of the camp;

und sie geboten dem Volke und sprachen: Sobald ihr die Lade des Bundes Jehovas, eures Gottes, sehet, und die Priester, die Leviten, sie tragen, dann sollt ihr von eurem Orte aufbrechen und ihr nachfolgen.

and they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.

Doch soll zwischen euch und ihr eine Entfernung sein bei zweitausend Ellen an Maß. Ihr sollt ihr nicht nahen, auf daß ihr den Weg wisset, auf dem ihr gehen sollt; denn ihr seid des Weges früher nicht gezogen.

Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go; for ye have not passed this way heretofore.

Und Josua sprach zu dem Volke: Heiliget euch; denn morgen wird Jehova in eurer Mitte Wunder tun.

And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves; for tomorrow Jehovah will do wonders among you.

Und Josua sprach zu den Priestern und sagte: Nehmet die Lade des Bundes auf und ziehet vor dem Volke hinüber. Und sie nahmen die Lade des Bundes auf und zogen vor dem Volke her.

And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

Und Jehova sprach zu Josua: An diesem Tage will ich beginnen, dich in den Augen von ganz Israel groß zu machen, damit sie wissen, daß, so wie ich mit Mose gewesen bin, ich mit dir sein werde.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.

Und du sollst den Priestern, welche die Lade des Bundes tragen, gebieten und sprechen: Wenn ihr an den Rand des Wassers des Jordan kommet, so bleibet im Jordan stehen.

And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, ye shall stand still in the Jordan.

Und Josua sprach zu den Kindern Israel: Tretet herzu und höret die Worte Jehovas, eures Gottes!

And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of Jehovah your God.

Und Josua sprach: Hieran sollt ihr wissen, daß der lebendige Gott in eurer Mitte ist, und daß er die Kanaaniter und die Hethiter und die Hewiter und die Perisiter und die Girgasiter und die Amoriter und die Jebusiter gewißlich vor euch austreiben wird.

And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Hivite, and the Perizzite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Jebusite.

Siehe, die Lade des Bundes des Herrn der ganzen Erde zieht vor euch her in den Jordan.

Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into the Jordan.

Und nun nehmet euch zwölf Männer aus den Stämmen Israels, je einen Mann für den Stamm.

Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, for every tribe a man.

Und es wird geschehen, wenn die Fußsohlen der Priester, welche die Lade Jehovas, des Herrn der ganzen Erde, tragen, in den Wassern des Jordan ruhen, so werden die Wasser des Jordan, die von oben herabfließenden Wasser, abgeschnitten werden, und sie werden stehen bleiben wie ein Damm.

And it shall come to pass, when the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of Jehovah, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, even the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand in one heap.

Und es geschah, als das Volk aus seinen Zelten aufbrach, um über den Jordan zu ziehen, indem die Priester die Lade des Bundes vor dem Volke hertrugen,

And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over the Jordan, the priests that bare the ark of the covenant being before the people;

und sobald die Träger der Lade an den Jordan kamen, und die Füße der Priester, welche die Lade trugen, in den Rand des Wassers tauchten, - der Jordan aber ist voll über alle seine Ufer die ganze Zeit der Ernte hindurch, -

and when they that bare the ark were come unto the Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (for the Jordan overfloweth all its banks all the time of harvest,)

da blieben die von oben herabfließenden Wasser stehen; sie richteten sich auf wie ein Damm, sehr fern, bei Adam, der Stadt, die seitwärts von Zarethan liegt; und die nach dem Meere der Ebene, dem Salzmeere, hinabfließenden wurden völlig abgeschnitten. Und das Volk zog hindurch, Jericho gegenüber.

that the waters which came down from above stood, and rose up in one heap, a great way off, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those that went down toward the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, were wholly cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

Und die Priester, welche die Lade des Bundes Jehovas trugen, standen festen Fußes auf dem Trockenen in der Mitte des Jordan; und ganz Israel zog auf dem Trockenen hinüber, bis die ganze Nation vollends über den Jordan gegangen war.

And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan; and all Israel passed over on dry ground, until all the nation were passed clean over the Jordan.

Kapitel 4

Und es geschah, als die ganze Nation vollends über den Jordan gezogen war, da sprach Jehova zu Josua und sagte:

And it came to pass, when all the nation were clean passed over the Jordan, that Jehovah spake unto Joshua, saying,

Nehmet euch aus dem Volke zwölf Männer, je einen Mann aus einem Stamme,

Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

und gebietet ihnen und sprechet: Hebet euch auf von hier, aus der Mitte des Jordan, von dem Standorte, wo die Füße der Priester festgestanden haben, zwölf Steine; und bringet sie mit euch hinüber und leget sie nieder in dem Nachtlager, wo ihr diese Nacht übernachten werdet.

and command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests` feet stood firm, twelve stones, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging-place, where ye shall lodge this night.

Und Josua rief die zwölf Männer, die er aus den Kindern Israel bestellt hatte, je einen Mann aus einem Stamme.

Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:

Und Josua sprach zu ihnen: Gehet hinüber, vor die Lade Jehovas, eures Gottes, in die Mitte des Jordan, und hebet euch ein jeder einen Stein auf seine Schulter, nach der Zahl der Stämme der Kinder Israel,

and Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of Jehovah your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take you up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;

damit dies ein Zeichen unter euch sei. Wenn eure Kinder künftig fragen und sprechen: Was bedeuten euch diese Steine?

that this may be a sign among you, that, when your children ask in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?

so sollt ihr zu ihnen sagen: daß die Wasser des Jordan vor der Lade des Bundes Jehovas abgeschnitten wurden; als sie durch den Jordan ging, wurden die Wasser des Jordan abgeschnitten. Und diese Steine sollen für die Kinder Israel zum Gedächtnis sein ewiglich.

then ye shall say unto them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah; when it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

Und die Kinder Israel taten also, wie Josua geboten hatte, und hoben zwölf Steine auf aus der Mitte des Jordan, so wie Jehova zu Josua geredet hatte, nach der Zahl der Stämme der Kinder Israel; und sie brachten sie mit sich in das Nachtlager hinüber und legten sie daselbst nieder.

And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as Jehovah spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

Und zwölf Steine richtete Josua auf in der Mitte des Jordan, an der Stelle, wo die Füße der Priester gestanden hatten, welche die Lade des Bundes trugen; und sie sind daselbst bis auf diesen Tag.

And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests that bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.

Und die Priester, welche die Lade trugen, blieben in der Mitte des Jordan stehen, bis alles vollendet war, was Jehova dem Josua geboten hatte, zu dem Volke zu reden, nach allem, was Mose dem Josua geboten hatte. Und das Volk eilte und zog hinüber.

For the priests that bare the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan, until everything was finished that Jehovah commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.

Und es geschah, als das ganze Volk vollends hinübergezogen war, da zogen die Lade Jehovas und die Priester angesichts des Volkes hinüber.

And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of Jehovah passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

Und die Kinder Ruben und die Kinder Gad und der halbe Stamm Manasse zogen gerüstet vor den Kindern Israel her, wie Mose zu ihnen geredet hatte.

And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:

Bei 40000 zum Heere Gerüstete zogen sie vor Jehova her zum Streit in die Ebenen von Jericho.

about forty thousand ready armed for war passed over before Jehovah unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.

An selbigem Tage machte Jehova den Josua groß in den Augen von ganz Israel; und sie fürchteten ihn, wie sie Mose gefürchtet hatten, alle Tage seines Lebens.

On that day Jehovah magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

Und Jehova sprach zu Josua und sagte:

And Jehovah spake unto Joshua, saying,

Gebiete den Priestern, welche die Lade des Zeugnisses tragen, daß sie aus dem Jordan heraufsteigen.

Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.

Und Josua gebot den Priestern und sprach: Steiget aus dem Jordan herauf!

Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of the Jordan.

Und es geschah, als die Priester, welche die Lade des Bundes Jehovas trugen, aus der Mitte des Jordan heraufstiegen, als die Fußsohlen der Priester sich abgerissen hatten auf das Trockene, da kehrten die Wasser des Jordan an ihren Ort zurück, und sie flossen wie früher über alle seine Ufer.

And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah were come up out of the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests` feet were lifted up unto the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned unto their place, and went over all its banks, as aforetime.

Und das Volk stieg aus dem Jordan herauf am Zehnten des ersten Monats; und sie lagerten sich in Gilgal an der Ostgrenze von Jericho.

And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho.

Und jene zwölf Steine, die sie aus dem Jordan genommen hatten, richtete Josua zu Gilgal auf.

And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, did Joshua set up in Gilgal.

Und er sprach zu den Kindern Israel und sagte: Wenn eure Kinder künftig ihre Väter fragen und sprechen: Was bedeuten diese Steine? -

And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?

so sollt ihr es euren Kindern kundtun und sprechen: Auf trockenem Boden ist Israel durch diesen Jordan gezogen.

Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

Denn Jehova, euer Gott, hat die Wasser des Jordan vor euch ausgetrocknet, bis ihr hinübergezogen waret, so wie Jehova, euer Gott, mit dem Schilfmeere tat, das er vor uns austrocknete, bis wir hinübergezogen waren:

For Jehovah your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as Jehovah your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were passed over;

damit alle Völker der Erde die Hand Jehovas erkennten, daß sie stark ist; damit ihr Jehova, euren Gott, fürchtet alle Tage.

that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of Jehovah, that it is mighty; that ye may fear Jehovah your God for ever.

Kapitel 5

Und es geschah, als alle Könige der Amoriter, die diesseit des Jordan westwärts, und alle Könige der Kanaaniter, die am Meere waren, hörten, daß Jehova die Wasser des Jordan vor den Kindern Israel ausgetrocknet hatte, bis wir hinübergezogen waren, da zerschmolz ihr Herz, und es war kein Mut mehr in ihnen vor den Kindern Israel.

And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, that were by the sea, heard how that Jehovah had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

In selbiger Zeit sprach Jehova zu Josua: Mache dir Steinmesser und beschneide wiederum die Kinder Israel zum zweiten Male.

At that time Jehovah said unto Joshua, Make thee knives of flint, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

Und Josua machte sich Steinmesser und beschnitt die Kinder Israel am Hügel Araloth.

And Joshua made him knives of lint, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

Und dies ist die Sache, warum Josua sie beschnitt: Das ganze Volk, das aus Ägypten gezogen war, die Männlichen, alle Kriegsleute, waren in der Wüste gestorben, auf dem Wege, als sie aus Ägypten zogen.

And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: all the people that came forth out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came forth out of Egypt.

Denn das ganze Volk, welches auszog, war beschnitten; aber das ganze Volk, das in der Wüste geboren war, auf dem Wege, als sie aus Ägypten zogen, hatte man nicht beschnitten.

For all the people that came out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, they had not circumcised.

Denn die Kinder Israel wanderten vierzig Jahre in der Wüste, bis die ganze Nation der Kriegsleute, die aus Ägypten gezogen, aufgerieben war, welche nicht gehört hatten auf die Stimme Jehovas, denen Jehova geschworen hatte, sie das Land nicht sehen zu lassen, welches Jehova ihren Vätern geschworen hatte, uns zu geben, ein Land, das von Milch und Honig fließt.

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the nation, even the men of war that came forth out of Egypt, were consumed, because they hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah: unto whom Jehovah sware that he would not let them see the land which Jehovah sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Und ihre Söhne, die er an ihrer Statt aufkommen ließ, diese beschnitt Josua; denn sie hatten Vorhaut, weil man sie auf dem Wege nicht beschnitten hatte.

And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them did Joshua circumcise: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

Und es geschah, als die ganze Nation vollends beschnitten war, da blieben sie an ihrem Orte im Lager, bis sie heil waren.

And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the nation, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

Und Jehova sprach zu Josua: Heute habe ich die Schande Ägyptens von euch abgewälzt. Und man gab selbigem Orte den Namen Gilgal bis auf diesen Tag.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, unto this day.

Und die Kinder Israel lagerten in Gilgal; und sie feierten das Passah am vierzehnten Tage des Monats, am Abend, in den Ebenen von Jericho.

And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal; and they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

Und sie aßen am anderen Tage nach dem Passah von dem Erzeugnis des Landes, ungesäuertes Brot und geröstete Körner, an diesem selbigen Tage.

And they did eat of the produce of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes and parched grain, in the selfsame day.

Und das Man hörte auf am anderen Tage, als sie von dem Erzeugnis des Landes aßen, und es gab für die Kinder Israel kein Man mehr; und sie aßen von dem Ertrage des Landes Kanaan in jenem Jahre.

And the manna ceased on the morrow, after they had eaten of the produce of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

Und es geschah, als Josua bei Jericho war, da erhob er seine Augen auf und sah: und siehe, ein Mann stand vor ihm, und sein Schwert gezückt in seiner Hand. Und Josua ging auf ihn zu und sprach zu ihm: Bist du für uns oder für unsere Feinde?

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

Und er sprach: Nein, sondern als der Oberste des Heeres Jehovas bin ich jetzt gekommen. Da fiel Josua auf sein Angesicht zur Erde und huldigte ihm und sprach zu ihm: Was redet mein Herr zu seinem Knechte?

And he said, Nay; but [as] prince of the host of Jehovah am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?

Und der Oberste des Heeres Jehovas sprach zu Josua: Ziehe deinen Schuh aus von deinem Fuße; denn der Ort, auf dem du stehst, ist heilig! Und Josua tat also.

And the prince of Jehovah`s host said unto Joshua, Put off thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

Kapitel 6

Und Jericho hatte seine Tore geschlossen und war verriegelt vor den Kindern Israel; niemand ging aus, und niemand ging ein.

Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.

Und Jehova sprach zu Josua: Siehe, ich habe Jericho und seinen König und die streitbaren Männer in deine Hand gegeben.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thy hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valor.

Und ihr sollt die Stadt umziehen, alle Kriegsleute, einmal rings um die Stadt her; also sollst du sechs Tage tun.

And ye shall compass the city, all the men of war, going about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

Und sieben Priester sollen sieben Hallposaunen vor der Lade hertragen. Und am siebten Tage sollt ihr die Stadt siebenmal umziehen, und die Priester sollen in die Posaunen stoßen.

And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams` horns before the ark: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.

Und es soll geschehen, wenn man das Lärmhorn anhaltend bläst, wenn ihr den Schall der Posaune höret, so soll das ganze Volk ein großes Geschrei erheben; und die Mauer der Stadt wird an ihrer Stelle einstürzen, und das Volk soll hinaufsteigen, ein jeder gerade vor sich hin.

And it shall be, that, when they make a long blast with the ram`s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him.

Und Josua, der Sohn Nuns, rief die Priester und sprach zu ihnen: Nehmet die Lade des Bundes auf, und sieben Priester sollen sieben Hallposaunen vor der Lade Jehovas hertragen.

And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams` horns before the ark of Jehovah.

Und er sprach zu dem Volke: Gehet hin und umziehet die Stadt; und die Gerüsteten sollen vor der Lade Jehovas hergehen.

And they said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let the armed men pass on before the ark of Jehovah.

Und es geschah, als Josua zu dem Volke geredet hatte, da zogen die sieben Priester hin, welche die sieben Hallposaunen vor Jehova hertrugen, und stießen in die Posaunen; und die Lade des Bundes Jehovas folgte hinter ihnen.

And it was so, that, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams` horns before Jehovah passed on, and blew the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of Jehovah followed them.

Und die Gerüsteten zogen vor den Priestern her, welche in die Posaunen stießen, und der Nachzug ging hinter der Lade her, indem sie fort und fort in die Posaunen stießen.

And the armed men went before the priests that blew the trumpets, and the rearward went after the ark, [the priests] blowing the trumpets as they went.

Und Josua hatte dem Volke geboten und gesagt: Ihr sollt kein Geschrei erheben und eure Stimme nicht hören lassen, und kein Wort soll aus eurem Munde gehen; bis zu dem Tage, da ich zu euch sage: Erhebet ein Geschrei! dann sollt ihr ein Geschrei erheben.

And Joshua commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.

Und die Lade Jehovas umzog die Stadt, einmal rings um sie her; und sie kamen in das Lager und übernachteten im Lager.

So he caused the ark of Jehovah to compass the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.

Und Josua machte sich des Morgens früh auf, und die Priester trugen die Lade Jehovas.

And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of Jehovah.

Und die sieben Priester, welche die sieben Hallposaunen vor der Lade Jehovas hertrugen, gingen fort und fort und stießen in die Posaunen; und die Gerüsteten zogen vor ihnen her, und der Nachzug ging hinter der Lade Jehovas her, indem sie fort und fort in die Posaunen stießen.

And the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams` horns before the ark of Jehovah went on continually, and blew the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; and the rearward came after the ark of Jehovah, [the priests] blowing the trumpets as they went.

Und sie umzogen die Stadt am zweiten Tage einmal und kehrten in das Lager zurück. Also taten sie sechs Tage.

And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.

Und es geschah am siebten Tage, da machten sie sich früh auf, beim Aufgang der Morgenröte, und umzogen die Stadt nach dieser Weise siebenmal; nur an selbigem Tage umzogen sie die Stadt siebenmal.

And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early at the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on the day they compassed the city seven times.

Und es geschah beim siebten Male, als die Priester in die Posaunen stießen, da sprach Josua zu dem Volke: Erhebet ein Geschrei! denn Jehova hat euch die Stadt gegeben.

And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for Jehovah hath given you the city.

Und sie Stadt, sie und alles, was darin ist, soll dem Jehova ein Bann sein; nur Rahab, die Hure, soll am Leben bleiben, sie und alle, die bei ihr im Hause sind, weil sie die Boten versteckt hat, die wir ausgesandt haben.

And the city shall be devoted, even it and all that is therein, to Jehovah: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

Ihr aber, hütet euch nur vor dem Verbannten, damit ihr nicht verbannet und doch von dem Verbannten nehmet und das Lager Israels zum Banne machet und es in Trübsal bringet.

But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest when ye have devoted it, ye take of the devoted thing; so would ye make the camp of Israel accursed, and trouble it.

Und alles Silber und Gold, samt den ehernen und eisernen Geräten, soll Jehova heilig sein: in den Schatz Jehovas soll es kommen.

But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are holy unto Jehovah: they shall come into the treasury of Jehovah.

Und das Volk erhob ein Geschrei, und sie stießen in die Posaunen. Und es geschah, als das Volk den Schall der Posaunen hörte, und als das Volk ein großes Geschrei erhob, da stürzte die Mauer an ihrer Stelle ein, und das Volk stieg in die Stadt hinein, ein jeder gerade vor sich hin, und sie nahmen die Stadt ein.

So the people shouted, and [the priests] blew the trumpets; and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

Und sie verbannten alles, was in der Stadt war, vom Manne bis zum Weibe, vom Knaben bis zum Greise, und bis zu den Rindern und Schafen und Eseln, mit der Schärfe des Schwertes. -

And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

Und Josua sprach zu den beiden Männern, die das Land ausgekundschaftet hatten: Gehet in das Haus der Hure, und führet das Weib und alle ihre Angehörigen von dannen heraus, wie ihr es ihr geschworen habt.

And Joshua said unto the two men that had spied out the land, Go into the harlot`s house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.

Da gingen die Jünglinge, die Kundschafter, hinein und führten Rahab und ihren Vater und ihre Mutter und ihre Brüder und alle ihre Angehörigen hinaus: alle ihre Geschlechter führten sie hinaus; und sie ließen sie außerhalb des Lagers Israels. -

And the young men the spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; all her kindred also they brought out; and they set them without the camp of Israel.

Und die Stadt und alles, was darin war, verbrannten sie mit Feuer; nur das Silber und das Gold und die ehernen und die eisernen Geräte legten sie in den Schatz des Hauses Jehovas. -

And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein; only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of Jehovah.

So ließ Josua Rahab, die Hure, und das Haus ihres Vaters und alle ihre Angehörigen am Leben; und sie hat in der Mitte Israels gewohnt bis auf diesen Tag, weil sie die Boten versteckte, welche Josua abgesandt hatte, um Jericho auszukundschaften.

But Rahab the harlot, and her father`s household, and all that she had, did Joshua save alive; and she dwelt in the midst of Israel unto this day, because she hid the messengers, whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

Und Josua schwur in selbiger Zeit und sprach: Verflucht vor Jehova sei der Mann, der sich aufmachen und diese Stadt Jericho bauen wird! Mit seinem Erstgeborenen wird er ihren Grund legen und mit seinem Jüngsten ihre Tore aufstellen. -

And Joshua charged them with an oath at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before Jehovah, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: with the loss of his first-born shall he lay the foundation thereof, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

Und Jehova war mit Josua, und sein Ruf verbreitete sich durch das ganze Land.

So Jehovah was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land.

Kapitel 7

Und die Kinder Israel begingen Untreue an dem Verbannten; und Achan, der Sohn Karmis, des Sohnes Sabdis, des Sohnes Serachs, vom Stamme Juda, nahm von dem Verbannten; und der Zorn Jehovas entbrannte wider die Kinder Israel. -

But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted thing; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the devoted thing: and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against the children of Israel.

Und Josua sandte Männer von Jericho nach Ai, das bei Beth-Awen, östlich von Bethel, liegt, und sprach zu ihnen und sagte: Gehet hinauf und kundschaftet das Land aus. Und die Männer gingen hinauf und kundschafteten Ai aus.

And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Beth-el, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and spy out the land. And the men went up and spied out Ai.

Und sie kehrten zu Josua zurück und sprachen zu ihm: Es ziehe nicht das ganze Volk hinauf; bei zweitausend Mann oder bei dreitausend Mann mögen hinaufziehen und Ai schlagen; bemühe nicht das ganze Volk dahin, denn ihrer sind wenige.

And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; make not all the people to toil thither; for they are but few.

Da zogen von dem Volke bei dreitausend Mann dort hinauf; aber sie flohen vor den Männern von Ai;

So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.

und die Männer von Ai erschlugen von ihnen bei 36 Mann, und sie jagten ihnen nach vor dem Tore bis Schebarim und schlugen sie am Abhange. Da zerschmolz das Herz des Volkes und wurde wie Wasser.

And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men; and they chased them [from] before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them at the descent; and the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.

Und Josua zerriß seine Kleider und fiel vor der Lade Jehovas auf sein Angesicht zur Erde bis an den Abend, er und die Ältesten von Israel, und sie warfen Staub auf ihre Häupter.

And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of Jehovah until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust upon their heads.

Und Josua sprach: Ach, Herr, Jehova! warum hast du denn dieses Volk über den Jordan ziehen lassen, um uns in die Hand der Amoriter zu geben, uns zu Grunde zu richten? O hätten wir es uns doch gefallen lassen und wären jenseit des Jordan geblieben!

And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord Jehovah, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over the Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? would that we had been content and dwelt beyond the Jordan!

Bitte, Herr, was soll ich sagen, nachdem Israel vor seinen Feinden den Rücken gekehrt hat?

Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after that Israel hath turned their backs before their enemies!

Und hören es die Kanaaniter und alle Bewohner des Landes, so werden sie uns umzingeln und unseren Namen von der Erde ausrotten; und was wirst du für deinen großen Namen tun?

For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will compass us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do for thy great name?

Da sprach Jehova zu Josua: Stehe auf! warum liegst du denn auf deinem Angesicht?

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore art thou thus fallen upon thy face?

Israel hat gesündigt, und auch haben sie meinen Bund übertreten, den ich ihnen geboten habe; und auch haben sie von dem Verbannten genommen und auch gestohlen und es auch verheimlicht und es auch unter ihre Geräte gelegt!

Israel hath sinned; yea, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: yea, they have even taken of the devoted thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also; and they have even put it among their own stuff.

Und die Kinder Israel werden vor ihren Feinden nicht zu bestehen vermögen; sie werden vor ihren Feinden den Rücken kehren, denn sie sind zum Banne geworden. Ich werde nicht mehr mit euch sein, wenn ihr nicht den Bann aus eurer Mitte vertilget.

Therefore the children of Israel cannot stand before their enemies; they turn their backs before their enemies, because they are become accursed: I will not be with you any more, except ye destroy the devoted thing from among you.

Stehe auf, heilige das Volk und sprich: Heiliget euch auf morgen; denn so spricht Jehova, der Gott Israels: Ein Bann ist in deiner Mitte, Israel; du wirst vor deinen Feinden nicht zu bestehen vermögen, bis ihr den Bann aus eurer Mitte hinwegtut.

Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: for thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, There is a devoted thing in the midst of thee, O Israel; thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the devoted thing from among you.

Und ihr sollt am Morgen herzutreten nach euren Stämmen; und es soll geschehen: der Stamm, welchen Jehova treffen wird, soll herzutreten nach den Geschlechtern; und das Geschlecht, welches Jehova treffen wird, soll herzutreten nach den Häusern; und das Haus, welches Jehova treffen wird, soll herzutreten nach den Männern.

In the morning therefore ye shall be brought near by your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which Jehovah taketh shall come near by families; and the family which Jehovah shall take shall come near by households; and the household which Jehovah shall take shall come near man by man.

Und es soll geschehen: wer mit dem Banne getroffen wird, der soll mit Feuer verbrannt werden, er und alles, was er hat; denn er hat den Bund Jehovas übertreten und eine Schandtat in Israel begangen.

And it shall be, that he that is taken with the devoted thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath; because he hath transgressed the covenant of Jehovah, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.

Und Josua machte sich des Morgens früh auf und ließ Israel herzutreten nach seinen Stämmen; und es ward getroffen der Stamm Juda.

So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel near by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:

Und er ließ die Geschlechter Judas herzutreten; und er traf das Geschlecht der Sarchiter. Und er ließ das Geschlecht der Sarchiter herzutreten nach den Männern; und es ward getroffen Sabdi.

and he brought near the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zerahites: and he brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:

Und er ließ sein Haus herzutreten nach den Männern; und es ward getroffen Achan, der Sohn Karmis, des Sohnes Sabdis, des Sohnes Serachs, vom Stamme Juda.

and he brought near his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

Und Josua sprach zu Achan: Mein Sohn, gib doch Jehova, dem Gott Israels, Ehre und lege ihm ein Bekenntnis ab; und tue mir doch kund, was du getan hast; verhehle es mir nicht!

And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to Jehovah, the God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.

Und Achan antwortete Josua und sprach: Fürwahr, ich habe gegen Jehova, den Gott Israels, gesündigt, und so, und so habe ich getan:

And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Of a truth I have sinned against Jehovah, the God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:

Ich sah unter der Beute einen schönen Mantel aus Sinear und zweihundert Sekel Silber und eine goldene Stange, fünfzig Sekel ihr Gewicht, und mich gelüstete danach, und ich nahm sie; und siehe, sie sind im Innern meines Zeltes in der Erde vergraben und das Silber darunter.

when I saw among the spoil a goodly Babylonish mantle, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.

Und Josua sandte Boten hin, und sie liefen zum Zelte; und siehe, er war in seinem Zelte vergraben und das Silber darunter.

So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.

Und sie nahmen es aus dem Innern des Zeltes und brachten es zu Josua und zu allen Kindern Israel, und sie legten es vor Jehova hin.

And they took them from the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel; and they laid them down before Jehovah.

Da nahm Josua, und ganz Israel mit ihm, Achan, den Sohn Serachs, und das Silber und den Mantel und die goldene Stange, und seine Söhne und seine Töchter, und seine Rinder und seine Esel und sein Kleinvieh, und sein Zelt und alles, was er hatte, und sie brachten sie hinauf in das Tal Achor.

And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the mantle, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them up unto the valley of Achor.

Und Josua sprach: Wie hast du uns in Trübsal gebracht! Jehova wird dich in Trübsal bringen an diesem Tage! Und ganz Israel steinigte ihn, und sie verbrannten sie mit Feuer und bewarfen sie mit Steinen;

And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? Jehovah shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones; and they burned them with fire, and stoned them with stones.

und sie errichteten einen großen Steinhaufen über ihm, der bis auf diesen Tag da ist. Und Jehova wandte sich von der Glut seines Zornes. Darum gab man jenem Orte den Namen Tal Achor bis auf diesen Tag.

And they raised over him a great heap of stones, unto this day; and Jehovah turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.

Kapitel 8

Und Jehova sprach zu Josua: Fürchte dich nicht und erschrick nicht! Nimm alles Kriegsvolk mit dir und mache dich auf, ziehe hinauf nach Ai. Siehe, ich habe den König von Ai und sein Volk und seine Stadt und sein Land in deine Hand gegeben.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land;

Und du sollst an Ai und an seinem König tun, so wie du an Jericho und an seinem König getan hast; jedoch seine Beute und sein Vieh dürft ihr für euch plündern. Lege dir einen Hinterhalt gegen die Stadt, in ihren Rücken.

And thou shalt do to Ai and her king as thou didst unto Jericho and her king: only the spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto yourselves: set thee an ambush for the city behind it.

Da machte sich Josua mit allem Kriegsvolk auf, um nach Ai hinaufzuziehen. Und Josua wählte 30000 Mann aus, streitbare Männer, und sandte sie ab bei der Nacht.

So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor, and sent them forth by night.

Und er gebot ihnen und sprach: Sehet, ihr sollt den Hinterhalt bilden gegen die Stadt, im Rücken der Stadt; entfernet euch nicht allzuweit von der Stadt, sondern seid alle bereit.

And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city; go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready:

Und ich und alles Volk, das bei mir ist, wir wollen uns der Stadt nähern; und es soll geschehen, wenn sie herauskommen, uns entgegen, wie das erste Mal, so wollen wir vor ihnen fliehen.

and I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city. And it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them;

Und sie werden herausziehen hinter uns her, bis wir sie von der Stadt abgerissen haben; denn sie werden sagen: Sie fliehen vor uns wie das erste Mal! und wir wollen vor ihnen fliehen.

and they will come out after us, till we have drawn them away from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first: so we will flee before them;

Dann sollt ihr euch aus dem Hinterhalt aufmachen und die Stadt in Besitz nehmen; und Jehova, euer Gott, wird sie in eure Hand geben.

and ye shall rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city: for Jehovah your God will deliver it into your hand.

Und es soll geschehen, wenn ihr die Stadt eingenommen habt, so sollt ihr die Stadt mit Feuer anzünden; nach dem Worte Jehovas sollt ihr tun. Sehet, ich habe es euch geboten. -

And it shall be, when ye have seized upon the city, that ye shall set the city on fire; according to the word of Jehovah shall ye do: see, I have commanded you.

Und Josua sandte sie ab, und sie zogen in den Hinterhalt und hielten zwischen Bethel und Ai, westlich von Ai. Und Josua brachte jene Nacht in der Mitte des Volkes zu.

And Joshua sent them forth; and they went to the ambushment, and abode between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of Ai: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.

Und Josua machte sich des Morgens früh auf und musterte das Volk; und er zog hinauf, er und die Ältesten von Israel, vor dem Volke her nach Ai.

And Joshua arose up early in the morning, and mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.

Und alles Kriegsvolk, das bei ihm war, zog hinauf und rückte heran, und sie kamen der Stadt gegenüber; und sie lagerten sich nördlich von Ai, und das Tal war zwischen ihm und Ai.

And all the people, [even] the [men of] war that were with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and encamped on the north side of Ai: now there was a valley between him and Ai.

Er hatte aber bei fünftausend Mann genommen und sie als Hinterhalt zwischen Bethel und Ai gelegt, westlich von der Stadt.

And he took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of the city.

Und so stellten sie das Volk auf, das ganze Lager, das nördlich von der Stadt war, und dessen Hinterhalt westlich von der Stadt; und Josua zog in selbiger Nacht mitten in das Tal.

So they set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their liers-in-wait that were on the west of the city; and Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.

Und es geschah, als der König von Ai es sah, da eilten die Männer der Stadt und machten sich früh auf und zogen hinaus, Israel entgegen zum Streit, er und all sein Volk, an den bestimmten Ort, vor der Ebene. Er wußte aber nicht, daß ihm im Rücken der Stadt ein Hinterhalt gelegt war.

And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, before the Arabah; but he knew not that there was an ambush against him behind the city.

Und Josua und ganz Israel ließen sich vor ihnen schlagen und flohen des Weges zur Wüste.

And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.

Da wurde das ganze Volk, das in der Stadt war, zusammengerufen, um ihnen nachzujagen; und sie jagten Josua nach und wurden von der Stadt abgerissen.

And all the people that were in the city were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.

Und es blieb kein Mann in Ai und Bethel übrig, der nicht hinter Israel her ausgezogen wäre; und sie ließen die Stadt offen und jagten Israel nach.

And there was not a man left in Ai or Beth-el, that went not out after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.

Da sprach Jehova zu Josua: Strecke den Spieß, der in deiner Hand ist, gegen Ai aus; denn ich will es in deine Hand geben. Und Josua streckte den Spieß, der in seiner Hand war, gegen die Stadt aus.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Stretch out the javelin that is in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thy hand. And Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.

Und der Hinterhalt machte sich eilends von seinem Orte auf und lief, als er seine Hand ausstreckte, und sie kamen in die Stadt und nahmen sie ein; und sie eilten und zündeten die Stadt mit Feuer an.

And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and entered into the city, and took it; and they hasted and set the city on fire.

Und die Männer von Ai wandten sich um und sahen, und siehe, der Rauch der Stadt stieg gen Himmel empor; und sie hatten keine Kraft, dahin noch dorthin zu fliehen. Denn das Volk, das nach der Wüste hin geflohen war, wandte sich um gegen die Nachjagenden.

And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.

Denn als Josua und ganz Israel sahen, daß der Hinterhalt die Stadt eingenommen hatte, und daß der Rauch der Stadt emporstieg, da kehrten sie um und schlugen die Männer von Ai.

And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.

Jene aber zogen aus der Stadt ihnen entgegen, so daß sie mitten zwischen Israel waren, die einen von hierher und die anderen von dorther. Und sie schlugen sie, bis ihnen kein Entronnener oder Entkommener übrigblieb.

And the others came forth out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side: and they smote them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.

Und den König von Ai griffen sie lebendig und brachten ihn zu Josua.

And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.

Und es geschah, als Israel das Würgen aller Bewohner von Ai auf dem Felde, in der Wüste, wo sie ihnen nachgejagt waren, beendigt hatte, und sie alle durch die Schärfe des Schwertes gefallen, bis sie aufgerieben waren, da kehrte ganz Israel um nach Ai, und sie schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes.

And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they pursued them, and they were all fallen by the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all Israel returned unto Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.

Und alle an selbigem Tage Gefallenen, sowohl Männer als Weiber, waren zwölftausend, alle Leute von Ai.

And all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.

Und Josua zog seine Hand, die er mit dem Spieße ausgestreckt hatte, nicht zurück, bis man alle Bewohner von Ai vertilgt hatte.

For Joshua drew not back his hand, wherewith he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.

Nur das Vieh und die Beute jener Stadt plünderte Israel für sich, nach dem Worte Jehovas, das er dem Josua geboten hatte.

Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for prey unto themselves, according unto the word of Jehovah which he commanded Joshua.

Und Josua verbrannte Ai und machte es zu einem ewigen Trümmerhaufen, bis auf diesen Tag.

So Joshua burnt Ai, and made it a heap for ever, even a desolation, unto this day.

Und den König von Ai ließ er an einen Baum hängen bis zur Abendzeit; und beim Untergang der Sonne gebot Josua, und sie nahmen seinen Leichnam von dem Baume herab und warfen ihn an den Eingang des Stadttores und errichteten einen großen Steinhaufen über ihm, der bis auf diesen Tag da ist.

And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until the eventide: and at the going down of the sun Joshua commanded, and they took his body down from the tree, and cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and raised thereon a great heap of stones, unto this day.

Damals baute Josua dem Jehova, dem Gott Israels, einen Altar auf dem Berge Ebal,

Then Joshua built an altar unto Jehovah, the God of Israel, in mount Ebal,

so wie Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, den Kindern Israel geboten hatte, wie im Buche des Gesetzes Moses geschrieben ist, einen Altar von ganzen Steinen, über die man kein Eisen geschwungen hatte. Und sie opferten darauf dem Jehova Brandopfer und schlachteten Friedensopfer.

as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of unhewn stones, upon which no man had lifted up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt-offerings unto Jehovah, and sacrificed peace-offerings.

Und er schrieb daselbst auf die Steine eine Abschrift des Gesetzes Moses, welches er vor den Kindern Israel geschrieben hatte.

And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote, in the presence of the children of Israel.

Und ganz Israel und seine Ältesten und Vorsteher und seine Richter standen an dieser und an jener Seite der Lade, den Priestern, den Leviten, gegenüber, welche die Lade des Bundes Jehovas trugen, der Fremdling wie der Eingeborene, die eine Hälfte gegen den Berg Gerisim hin und die andere Hälfte gegen den Berg Ebal hin, wie Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, im Anfang geboten hatte, das Volk Israel zu segnen.

And all Israel, and their elders and officers, and their judges, stood on this side of the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, as well the sojourner as the homeborn; half of them in front of mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of Jehovah had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Israel.

Und danach las er alle Worte des Gesetzes, den Segen und den Fluch, nach allem, was im Buche des Gesetzes geschrieben ist.

And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law.

Es war kein Wort von allem, was Mose geboten hatte, das Josua nicht der ganzen Versammlung Israels vorlas, samt den Weibern und den Kindern und dem Fremdling, der in ihrer Mitte wandelte.

There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the assembly of Israel, and the women, and the little ones, and the sojourners that were among them.

Kapitel 9

Und es geschah, als alle die Könige es hörten, die diesseit des Jordan waren, auf dem Gebirge und in der Niederung und an der ganzen Küste des großen Meeres gegen den Libanon hin, die Hethiter und die Amoriter, die Kanaaniter, die Perisiter, die Hewiter und die Jebusiter:

And it came to pass, when all the kings that were beyond the Jordan, in the hill-country, and in the lowland, and on all the shore of the great sea in front of Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard thereof;

da versammelten sie sich allzumal, um einmütig wider Josua und wider Israel zu streiten.

that they gathered themselves together, to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord.

Als aber die Bewohner von Gibeon hörten, was Josua an Jericho und an Ai getan hatte,

But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho and to Ai,

handelten sie auch ihrerseits mit List und gingen und stellten sich als Boten: sie nahmen abgenutzte Säcke für ihre Esel, und abgenutzte und geborstene und zusammengebundene Weinschläuche,

they also did work wilily, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine-skins, old and rent and bound up,

und abgenutzte und geflickte Schuhe an ihre Füße, und abgenutzte Kleider auf sich; und alles Brot ihrer Zehrung war vertrocknet und war schimmlig.

and old and patched shoes upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and all the bread of their provision was dry and was become mouldy.

Und sie gingen zu Josua in das Lager nach Gilgal und sprachen zu ihm und zu den Männern von Israel: Aus fernem Lande sind wir gekommen, und nun machet einen Bund mit uns.

And they went to Joshua unto the camp at Gilgal, and said unto him, and to the men of Israel, We are come from a far country: now therefore make ye a covenant with us.

Aber die Männer von Israel sprachen zu dem Hewiter: Vielleicht wohnst du in meiner Mitte, und wie sollte ich einen Bund mit dir machen?

And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a covenant with you?

Und sie sprachen zu Josua: Wir sind deine Knechte. Und Josua sprach zu ihnen: Wer seid ihr, und woher kommet ihr?

And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who are ye? and from whence come ye?

Und sie sprachen zu ihm: Aus sehr fernem Lande sind deine Knechte gekommen, um des Namens Jehovas, deines Gottes, willen; denn wir haben seinen Ruf gehört und alles, was er in Ägypten getan,

And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of Jehovah thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,

und alles, was er den beiden Königen der Amoriter getan hat, die jenseit des Jordan waren, Sihon, dem König von Hesbon, und Og, dem König von Basan, der zu Astaroth wohnte.

and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.

Da sprachen unsere Ältesten und alle Bewohner unseres Landes zu uns und sagten: Nehmet Zehrung mit euch auf den Weg und gehet ihnen entgegen, und sprechet zu ihnen: Wir sind eure Knechte; und nun machet einen Bund mit uns!

And our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spake to us, saying, Take provision in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them, and say unto them, We are your servants: and now make ye a covenant with us.

Dieses unser Brot, warm haben wir es aus unseren Häusern als Zehrung mitgenommen an dem Tage, da wir auszogen, um zu euch zu gehen; und nun siehe, es ist vertrocknet und schimmlig geworden.

This our bread we took hot for our provision out of our houses on the day we came forth to go unto you; but now, behold, it is dry, and is become mouldy:

Und diese Weinschläuche, die wir neu gefüllt hatten, siehe da, sie sind geborsten; und diese unsere Kleider und unsere Schuhe sind abgenutzt infolge des sehr langen Weges. -

and these wine-skins, which we filled, were new; and, behold, they are rent: and these our garments and our shoes are become old by reason of the very long journey.

Und die Männer nahmen von ihrer Zehrung; aber den Mund Jehovas befragten sie nicht.

And the men took of their provision, and asked not counsel at the mouth of Jehovah.

Und Josua machte Frieden mit ihnen und machte mit ihnen einen Bund, sie am Leben zu lassen; und die Fürsten der Gemeinde schwuren ihnen.

And Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live: and the princes of the congregation sware unto them.

Und es geschah am Ende von drei Tagen, nachdem sie einen Bund mit ihnen gemacht hatten, da hörten sie, daß sie nahe bei ihnen waren und mitten unter ihnen wohnten.

And it came to pass at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors, and that they dwelt among them.

Da brachen die Kinder Israel auf und kamen zu ihren Städten am dritten Tage; und ihre Städte waren Gibeon und Kephira und Beeroth und Kirjath-Jearim.

And the children of Israel journeyed, and came unto their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kiriath-jearim.

Und die Kinder Israel schlugen sie nicht, weil die Fürsten der Gemeinde ihnen bei Jehova, dem Gott Israels, geschworen hatten. Da murrte die ganze Gemeinde wider die Fürsten.

And the children of Israel smote them not, because the princes of the congregation had sworn unto them by Jehovah, the God of Israel. And all the congregation murmured against the princes.

Und alle Fürsten sprachen zu der ganzen Gemeinde: Wir haben ihnen bei Jehova, dem Gott Israels, geschworen, und nun können wir sie nicht antasten.

But all the princes said unto all the congregation, We have sworn unto them by Jehovah, the God of Israel: now therefore we may not touch them.

Das wollen wir ihnen tun und sie am Leben lassen, damit nicht ein Zorn über uns komme wegen des Eides, den wir ihnen geschworen haben.

This we will do to them, and let them live; lest wrath be upon us, because of the oath which we sware unto them.

Und die Fürsten sprachen zu ihnen: Sie sollen am Leben bleiben. Und sie wurden Holzhauer und Wasserschöpfer für die ganze Gemeinde, so wie die Fürsten betreffs ihrer geredet hatten.

And the princes said unto them, Let them live: so they became hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation, as the princes had spoken unto them.

Und Josua rief sie und redete zu ihnen und sprach: Warum habt ihr uns betrogen und gesagt: Wir sind sehr weit von euch, da ihr doch mitten unter uns wohnet?

And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye beguiled us, saying, We are very far from you; when ye dwell among us?

Und nun, verflucht seid ihr; und nicht sollt ihr aufhören, Knechte zu sein, sowohl Holzhauer als Wasserschöpfer für das Haus meines Gottes!

Now therefore ye are cursed, and there shall never fail to be of you bondmen, both hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.

Und sie antworteten Josua und sprachen: Weil deinen Knechten für gewiß berichtet wurde, daß Jehova, dein Gott, Mose, seinem Knechte, geboten hat, euch das ganze Land zu geben und alle Bewohner des Landes vor euch zu vertilgen, so fürchteten wir sehr für unser Leben euretwegen und taten diese Sache.

And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that Jehovah thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; therefore we were sore afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.

Und nun siehe, wir sind in deiner Hand; tue, wie es gut und wie es recht ist in deinen Augen, uns zu tun.

And now, behold, we are in thy hand: as it seemeth good and right unto thee to do unto us, do.

Und er tat ihnen also und errettete sie von der Hand der Kinder Israel; und sie töteten sie nicht.

And so did he unto them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, that they slew them not.

Und Josua machte sie an jenem Tage zu Holzhauern und Wasserschöpfern für die Gemeinde und für den Altar Jehovas, bis auf diesen Tag, an dem Orte, den er erwählen würde.

And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of Jehovah, unto this day, in the place which he should choose.

Kapitel 10

Und es geschah, als Adoni-Zedek, der König von Jerusalem, hörte, daß Josua Ai eingenommen und vertilgt habe, daß er Ai und seinem König ebenso getan, wie er Jericho und seinem König getan hatte, und daß die Bewohner von Gibeon Frieden mit Israel gemacht hätten und in ihrer Mitte wären:

Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;

da fürchteten sie sich sehr; denn Gibeon war eine große Stadt, wie eine der Königsstädte, und es war größer als Ai, und alle seine Männer waren Helden.

that they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.

Und Adoni-Zedek, der König von Jerusalem, sandte zu Hoham, dem König von Hebron, und zu Piream, dem König von Jarmuth, und zu Japhija, dem König von Lachis, und zu Debir, dem König von Eglon, und ließ ihnen sagen:

Wherefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

Kommt zu mir herauf und helft mir, daß wir Gibeon schlagen; denn es hat mit Josua und mit den Kindern Israel Frieden gemacht!

Come up unto me, and help me, and let us smite Gibeon; for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.

Da versammelten sich und zogen herauf die fünf Könige der Amoriter, der König von Jerusalem, der König von Hebron, der König von Jarmuth, der König von Lachis, der König von Eglon, sie und alle ihre Heerlager; und sie lagerten sich wider Gibeon und stritten wider dasselbe.

Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped against Gibeon, and made war against it.

Und die Männer von Gibeon sandten zu Josua in das Lager nach Gilgal und ließen ihm sagen: Ziehe deine Hände nicht ab von deinen Knechten; komm eilends zu uns herauf und rette uns und hilf uns; denn alle Könige der Amoriter, die das Gebirge bewohnen, haben sich wider uns versammelt.

And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill-country are gathered together against us.

Und Josua zog von Gilgal hinauf, er und alles Kriegsvolk mit ihm und alle streitbaren Männer.

So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor.

Und Jehova sprach zu Josua: Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen, denn ich habe sie in deine Hand gegeben; kein Mann von ihnen wird vor dir standhalten.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thy hands; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

Und Josua kam plötzlich über sie; die ganze Nacht zog er von Gilgal hinauf.

Joshua therefore came upon them suddenly; [for] he went up from Gilgal all the night.

Und Jehova verwirrte sie vor Israel; und er richtete eine große Niederlage unter ihnen an zu Gibeon und jagte ihnen nach auf dem Wege der Anhöhe von Beth-Horon und schlug sie bis Aseka und bis Makkeda.

And Jehovah discomfited them before Israel, and he slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them by the way of the ascent of Beth-horon, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

Und es geschah, als sie vor Israel flohen, - sie stiegen hinunter von Beth-Horon - da warf Jehova große Steine vom Himmel auf sie herab, bis Aseka, daß sie starben. Es waren derer, welche durch die Hagelsteine starben, mehr als derer, welche die Kinder Israel mit dem Schwerte töteten.

And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, that Jehovah cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more who died with the hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

Damals redete Josua zu Jehova, an dem Tage, da Jehova die Amoriter vor den Kindern Israel dahingab, und sprach vor den Augen Israels: Sonne, stehe still zu Gibeon; und du, Mond, im Tale Ajjalon!

Then spake Joshua to Jehovah in the day when Jehovah delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; And thou, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon.

Und die Sonne stand still, und der Mond blieb stehen, bis die Nation sich an ihren Feinden gerächt hatte. (Ist das nicht geschrieben im Buche Jaschar?) Und die Sonne blieb mitten am Himmel stehen und eilte nicht zum Untergang, ungefähr einen ganzen Tag.

And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, Until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

Und es war kein Tag wie dieser, vor ihm und nach ihm, daß Jehova auf die Stimme eines Menschen gehört hätte; denn Jehova stritt für Israel.

And there was no day like that before it or after it, that Jehovah hearkened unto the voice of a man: for Jehovah fought for Israel.

Und Josua, und ganz Israel mit ihm, kehrte in das Lager nach Gilgal zurück.

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

Jene fünf Könige aber flohen und versteckten sich in der Höhle zu Makkeda.

And these five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.

Und es wurde Josua berichtet und gesagt: Die fünf Könige sind gefunden worden, versteckt in der Höhle zu Makkeda.

And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah.

Und Josua sprach: Wälzet große Steine an die Mündung der Höhle, und bestellet Männer über dieselbe, um sie zu bewachen.

And Joshua said, Roll great stones unto the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to keep them:

Ihr aber, stehet nicht still, jaget euren Feinden nach und schlaget ihren Nachtrab; laßt sie nicht in ihre Städte kommen, denn Jehova, euer Gott, hat sie in eure Hand gegeben!

but stay not ye; pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for Jehovah your God hath delivered them into your hand.

Und es geschah, als Josua und die Kinder Israel geendigt hatten, eine sehr große Niederlage unter ihnen anzurichten, bis sie aufgerieben waren, (die Entronnenen von ihnen entrannen aber und kamen in die festen Städte)

And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were consumed, and the remnant which remained of them had entered into the fortified cities,

da kehrte das ganze Volk in Frieden zu Josua zurück, in das Lager nach Makkeda; niemand spitzte seine Zunge gegen die Kinder Israel.

that all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

Und Josua sprach: Öffnet die Mündung der Höhle und bringet diese fünf Könige aus der Höhle zu mir heraus!

Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring forth those five kings unto me out of the cave.

Und sie taten also und brachten diese fünf Könige aus der Höhle zu ihm heraus: den König von Jerusalem, den König von Hebron, den König von Jarmuth, den König von Lachis, den König von Eglon.

And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon.

Und es geschah, als sie diese Könige zu Josua herausgebracht hatten, da rief Josua alle Männer von Israel und sprach zu den Anführern der Kriegsleute, die mit ihm gezogen waren: Tretet herzu, setzet eure Füße auf die Hälse dieser Könige! Und sie traten herzu und setzten ihre Füße auf ihre Hälse.

And it came to pass, when they brought forth those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the chiefs of the men of war that went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

Und Josua sprach zu ihnen: Fürchtet euch nicht und erschrecket nicht, seid stark und mutig! denn so wird Jehova allen euren Feinden tun, wider die ihr streitet.

And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed; be strong and of good courage: for thus shall Jehovah do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

Und danach erschlug Josua sie und tötete sie und hängte sie an fünf Bäume; und sie hingen an den Bäumen bis zum Abend.

And afterward Joshua smote them, and put them to death, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

Und es geschah zur Zeit des Sonnenuntergangs, da gebot Josua, und man nahm sie von den Bäumen herab und warf sie in die Höhle, wo sie sich versteckt hatten; und man legte große Steine an die Mündung der Höhle, die bis auf diesen selbigen Tag da sind.

And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had hidden themselves, and laid great stones on the mouth of the cave, unto this very day.

Und Josua nahm an jenem Tage Makkeda ein und schlug es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes; und seinen König, die Stadt und alle Seelen, die darin waren, verbannte er: er ließ keinen Entronnenen übrig; und er tat dem König von Makkeda, so wie er dem König von Jericho getan hatte. -

And Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof: he utterly destroyed them and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining; and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done unto the king of Jericho.

Und Josua, und ganz Israel mit ihm, zog von Makkeda nach Libna und stritt wider Libna.

And Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah:

Und Jehova gab es auch in die Hand Israels, samt seinem König; und er schlug es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes und alle Seelen, die darin waren: er ließ keinen Entronnenen darin übrig; und er tat seinem König, so wie er dem König von Jericho getan hatte. -

and Jehovah delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining in it; and he did unto the king thereof as he had done unto the king of Jericho.

Und Josua, und ganz Israel mit ihm, zog von Libna nach Lachis; und er belagerte es und stritt wider dasselbe.

And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it:

Und Jehova gab Lachis in die Hand Israels; und er nahm es am zweiten Tage ein und schlug es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes und alle Seelen, die darin waren, nach allem, was er Libna getan hatte.

and Jehovah delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel; and he took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

Damals zog Horam, der König von Geser, herauf, um Lachis zu helfen; aber Josua schlug ihn und sein Volk, bis ihm kein Entronnener übrigblieb. -

Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

Und Josua, und ganz Israel mit ihm, zog von Lachis nach Eglon; und sie belagerten es und stritten wider dasselbe.

And Joshua passed from Lachish, and all Israel with him, unto Eglon; and they encamped against it, and fought against it;

Und sie nahmen es an selbigem Tage ein und schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes; und alle Seelen, die darin waren, verbannte er an selbigem Tage, nach allem, was er Lachis getan hatte. -

and they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword; and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

Und Josua, und ganz Israel mit ihm, zog von Eglon nach Hebron hinauf, und sie stritten wider dasselbe.

And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it:

Und sie nahmen es ein und schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, samt seinem König und allen seinen Städten und allen Seelen, die darin waren: er ließ keinen Entronnenen übrig, nach allem, was er Eglon getan hatte; und er verbannte es und alle Seelen, die darin waren. -

and they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but he utterly destroyed it, and all the souls that were therein.

Und Josua, und ganz Israel mit ihm, wandte sich nach Debir und stritt wider dasselbe.

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir, and fought against it:

Und er nahm es ein samt seinem König und allen seinen Städten, und sie schlugen sie mit der Schärfe des Schwertes und verbannten alle Seelen, die darin waren: er ließ keinen Entronnenen übrig; wie er Hebron getan, und wie er Libna und seinem König getan hatte, also tat er Debir und seinem König.

and he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to the king thereof; as he had done also to Libnah, and to the king thereof.

Und Josua schlug das ganze Land, das Gebirge und den Süden und die Niederung und die Abhänge und alle ihre Könige: er ließ keinen Entronnenen übrig; und alles, was Odem hatte, verbannte er, so wie Jehova, der Gott Israels, geboten hatte.

So Joshua smote all the land, the hill-country, and the South, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, commanded.

Und Josua schlug sie von Kades-Barnea bis Gasa, und das ganze Land Gosen bis Gibeon.

And Joshua smote them from Kadesh-barnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.

Und alle diese Könige und ihr Land nahm Josua auf einmal; denn Jehova, der Gott Israels, stritt für Israel.

And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because Jehovah, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

Und Josua, und ganz Israel mit ihm, kehrte in das Lager nach Gilgal zurück.

And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

Kapitel 11

Und es geschah, als Jabin, der König von Hazor, es hörte, sandte er zu Jobab, dem König von Madon, und zu dem König von Schimron und zu dem König von Akschaph

And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard thereof, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

und zu den Königen, die gegen Norden waren im Gebirge und in der Ebene südlich von Kinneroth und in der Niederung und im Hügelgebiet von Dor gegen Westen,

and to the kings that were on the north, in the hill-country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west,

zu den Kanaanitern gegen Osten und gegen Westen, und zu den Amoritern und den Hethitern und den Perisitern und den Jebusitern im Gebirge, und zu den Hewitern am Fuße des Hermon im Lande Mizpa.

to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill-country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

Und sie zogen aus, sie und alle ihre Heerlager mit ihnen, ein großes Volk, wie der Sand, der am Ufer des Meeres ist, an Menge, und sehr viele Rosse und Wagen.

And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea-shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.

Und alle diese Könige trafen zusammen und kamen und lagerten sich miteinander am Wasser Merom, um mit Israel zu streiten.

And all these kings met together; and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.

Da sprach Jehova zu Josua: Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen; denn morgen um diese Zeit will ich sie allesamt erschlagen vor Israel dahingeben: ihre Rosse sollst du lähmen und ihre Wagen mit Feuer verbrennen.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them; for to-morrow at this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hock their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

Und Josua und alles Kriegsvolk mit ihm kam plötzlich über sie am Wasser Merom, und sie überfielen sie.

So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell upon them.

Und Jehova gab sie in die Hand Israels, und sie schlugen sie und jagten ihnen nach bis Zidon, der großen Stadt, und bis Misrephot-Majim und bis in die Talebene von Mizpe gegen Osten; und sie schlugen sie, bis ihnen kein Entronnener übrigblieb.

And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they smote them, and chased them unto great Sidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

Und Josua tat ihnen, so wie Jehova ihm gesagt hatte: ihre Rosse lähmte er, und ihre Wagen verbrannte er mit Feuer.

And Joshua did unto them as Jehovah bade him: he hocked their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

Und Josua kehrte in selbiger Zeit zurück und nahm Hazor ein, und seinen König erschlug er mit dem Schwerte; denn Hazor war vordem die Hauptstadt aller dieser Königreiche.

And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.

Und sie schlugen alle Seelen, die darin waren, mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, indem sie sie verbannten: nichts blieb übrig, was Odem hatte; und Hazor verbrannte er mit Feuer.

And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was none left that breathed: and he burnt Hazor with fire.

Und alle Städte dieser Könige, samt allen ihren Königen, nahm Josua ein und schlug sie mit der Schärfe des Schwertes und verbannte sie, so wie Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, geboten hatte.

And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and he smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded.

Nur alle die Städte, die auf ihren Hügeln standen, verbrannte Israel nicht; ausgenommen Hazor allein, das verbrannte Josua.

But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn.

Und alle Beute dieser Städte und das Vieh plünderten die Kinder Israel für sich; doch alle Menschen schlugen sie mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, bis sie sie vertilgt hatten: sie ließen nichts übrig, was Odem hatte.

And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any that breathed.

Wie Jehova Mose, seinem Knechte, geboten hatte, also gebot Mose Josua, und also tat Josua; er ließ nichts fehlen von allem, was Jehova dem Mose geboten hatte.

As Jehovah commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua: and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that Jehovah commanded Moses.

Und Josua nahm dieses ganze Land, das Gebirge und den ganzen Süden und das ganze Land Gosen und die Niederung und die Ebene, und das Gebirge Israel und seine Niederung,

So Joshua took all that land, the hill-country, and all the South, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill-country of Israel, and the lowland of the same;

von dem kahlen Gebirge, das gegen Seir aufsteigt, bis Baal-Gad in der Talebene des Libanon, am Fuße des Berges Hermon; und alle ihre Könige ergriff er und erschlug sie und tötete sie.

from mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and put them to death.

Lange Zeit führte Josua Krieg mit allen diesen Königen.

Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

Es war keine Stadt, die sich den Kindern Israel friedlich ergab, außer den Hewitern, die zu Gibeon wohnten; alles nahmen sie mit Krieg ein.

There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: they took all in battle.

Denn von Jehova war es, daß sie ihr Herz verhärteten zum Kriege mit Israel, damit sie vertilgt würden, ohne daß ihnen Gnade widerführe, sondern damit sie vertilgt würden, so wie Jehova dem Mose geboten hatte.

For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

Und Josua kam in selbiger Zeit und rottete die Enakim aus von dem Gebirge, von Hebron, von Debir, von Anab und von dem ganzen Gebirge Juda und von dem ganzen Gebirge Israel: mit ihren Städten verbannte sie Josua.

And Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel: Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.

Es blieben keine Enakim in dem Lande der Kinder Israel übrig; nur zu Gasa, zu Gath und zu Asdod blieben sie übrig.

There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.

Und so nahm Josua das ganze Land, nach allem, was Jehova zu Mose geredet hatte; und Josua gab es Israel zum Erbteil, nach ihren Abteilungen, nach ihren Stämmen. Und das Land hatte Ruhe vom Kriege.

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah spake unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land had rest from war.

Kapitel 12

Und dies sind die Könige des Landes, welche die Kinder Israel schlugen, und deren Land sie in Besitz nahmen jenseit des Jordan, gegen Sonnenaufgang, vom Flusse Arnon bis zum Berge Hermon, und die ganze Ebene gegen Osten:

Now these are the kings of the land, whom the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land beyond the Jordan toward the sunrising, from the valley of the Arnon unto mount Hermon, and all the Arabah eastward:

Sihon, der König der Amoriter, der zu Hesbon wohnte; er herrschte von Aroer an, das am Ufer des Flusses Arnon liegt, und zwar von der Mitte des Flußtales an, und über das halbe Gilead bis an den Fluß Jabbok, die Grenze der Kinder Ammon,

Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and [the city that is in] the middle of the valley, and half Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok, the border of the children of Ammon;

und über die Ebene bis an den See Kinneroth, gegen Osten, und bis an das Meer der Ebene, das Salzmeer, gegen Osten, nach Beth-Jesimoth hin, und gegen Süden unter den Abhängen des Pisga;

and the Arabah unto the sea of Chinneroth, eastward, and unto the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, the way to Beth-jeshimoth; and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah:

und das Gebiet Ogs, des Königs von Basan, von dem Überrest der Rephaim, der zu Astaroth und zu Edrei wohnte;

and the border of Og king of Bashan, of the remnant of the Rephaim, who dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei,

und er herrschte über den Berg Hermon und über Salka und über das ganze Basan, bis an die Grenze der Gesuriter und der Maakathiter, und über das halbe Gilead, die Grenze Sihons, des Königs von Hesbon.

and ruled in mount Hermon, and in Salecah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.

Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, und die Kinder Israel schlugen sie; und Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, gab es als Besitztum den Rubenitern und den Gaditern und dem halben Stamme Manasse.

Moses the servant of Jehovah and the children of Israel smote them: and Moses the servant of Jehovah gave it for a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

Und dies sind die Könige des Landes, welche Josua und die Kinder Israel schlugen diesseit des Jordan, nach Westen hin, von Baal-Gad in der Talebene des Libanon, bis an das kahle Gebirge, das gegen Seir aufsteigt. Und Josua gab es den Stämmen Israels als Besitztum, nach ihren Abteilungen,

And these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the children of Israel smote beyond the Jordan westward, from Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon even unto mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir; and Joshua gave it unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions;

im Gebirge und in der Niederung und in der Ebene und an den Abhängen und in der Wüste und im Süden: die Hethiter und die Amoriter und die Kanaaniter, die Perisiter, die Hewiter und die Jebusiter:

in the hill-country, and in the lowland, and in the Arabah, and in the slopes, and in the wilderness, and in the South; the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

der König von Jericho: einer; der König von Ai, das zur Seite von Bethel liegt, einer;

the king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one;

der König von Jerusalem: einer; der König von Hebron: einer;

the king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one;

der König von Jarmuth: einer; der König von Lachis: einer;

the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;

der König von Eglon: einer; der König von Geser: einer;

the king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one;

der König von Debir: einer; der König von Geder: einer;

the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one;

der König von Horma: einer; der König von Arad: einer;

the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one;

der König von Libna: einer; der König von Adullam: einer;

the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one;

Kapitel 13

Und Josua war alt, wohlbetagt, und Jehova sprach zu ihm: Du bist alt, wohlbetagt, und vom Lande ist sehr viel übrig in Besitz zu nehmen.

Now Joshua was old and well stricken in years; and Jehovah said unto him, Thou art old and well stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.

Dies ist das Land, das noch übrig ist: alle Bezirke der Philister und das ganze Gesuri;

This is the land that yet remaineth: all the regions of the Philistines, and all the Geshurites;

von dem Sihor, der vor Ägypten fließt, bis an die Grenze von Ekron gegen Norden, wird es zu den Kanaanitern gerechnet; die fünf Fürsten der Philister: der Gasiter, der Asdoditer, der Askaloniter, der Gathiter und der Ekroniter, und die Awim.

from the Shihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the border of Ekron northward, [which] is reckoned to the Canaanites; the five lords of the Philistines; the Gazites, and the Ashdodites, the Ashkelonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avvim,

Im Süden das ganze Land der Kanaaniter und Meara, das den Zidoniern gehört, bis Aphek, bis an die Grenze der Amoriter;

on the south; all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongeth to the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the border of the Amorites;

und das Land der Gibliter und der ganze Libanon gegen Sonnenaufgang, von Baal-Gad, am Fuße des Berges Hermon, bis man nach Hamath kommt;

and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon unto the entrance of Hamath;

alle Bewohner des Gebirges, vom Libanon bis Misrephot-Majim, alle Zidonier. Ich selbst werde sie vor den Kindern Israel austreiben; nur verlose es Israel als Erbteil, so wie ich dir geboten habe.

all the inhabitants of the hill-country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians; them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only allot thou it unto Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

Und nun verteile dieses Land als Erbteil den neun Stämmen und dem halben Stamme Manasse. -

Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

Mit ihm haben die Rubeniter und die Gaditer ihr Erbteil empfangen, welches Mose ihnen gegeben hat jenseit des Jordan gegen Osten, so wie Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, es ihnen gegeben hat:

With him the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of Jehovah gave them:

von Aroer an, das am Ufer des Flusses Arnon ist, und zwar von der Stadt, die mitten im Flußtale liegt, und die ganze Ebene Medeba bis Dibon,

from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon;

und alle Städte Sihons, des Königs der Amoriter, der zu Hesbon regierte, bis zur Grenze der Kinder Ammon;

and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon;

und Gilead und das Gebiet der Gesuriter und der Maakathiter und den ganzen Berg Hermon und das ganze Basan bis Salka,

and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salecah;

das ganze Reich Ogs in Basan, der zu Astaroth und zu Edrei regierte; (er war von dem Überrest der Rephaim übriggeblieben;) und Mose schlug sie und trieb sie aus.

all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (the same was left of the remnant of the Rephaim); for these did Moses smite, and drove them out.

Aber die Kinder Israel trieben die Gesuriter und die Maakathiter nicht aus; und Gesur und Maakath haben in der Mitte Israels gewohnt bis auf diesen Tag.

Nevertheless the children of Israel drove not out the Geshurites, nor the Maacathites: but Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel unto this day.

Nur dem Stamme Levi gab er kein Erbteil; die Feueropfer Jehovas, des Gottes Israels, sind sein Erbteil, so wie er zu ihm geredet hat.

Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the offerings of Jehovah, the God of Israel, made by fire are his inheritance, as he spake unto him.

Und Mose gab dem Stamme der Kinder Ruben nach ihren Geschlechtern.

And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their families.

Und es wurde ihnen als Gebiet zuteil: von Aroer an, das am Ufer des Flusses Arnon ist, und zwar von der Stadt, die mitten im Flußtale liegt, und die ganze Ebene bei Medeba;

And their border was from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain by Medeba;

Hesbon und alle seine Städte, die in der Ebene sind: Dibon und Bamoth-Baal und Beth-Baal-Meon,

Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon,

und Jahza und Kedemoth und Mephaath,

and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

und Kirjathaim und Sibma und Zereth-Schachar auf dem Berge der Talebene,

and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar in the mount of the valley,

und Beth-Peor und die Abhänge des Pisga und Beth-Jesimoth,

and Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth,

und alle Städte der Ebene, und das ganze Reich Sihons, des Königs der Amoriter, der zu Hesbon regierte, welchen Mose schlug, ihn und die Fürsten von Midian: Ewi und Rekem und Zur und Hur und Reba, die Herrscher Sihons, Bewohner des Landes.

and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the chiefs of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon, that dwelt in the land.

Und Bileam, den Sohn Beors, den Wahrsager, töteten die Kinder Israel mit dem Schwerte, nebst ihren Erschlagenen.

Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among the rest of their slain.

Und die Grenze der Kinder Ruben war der Jordan und das Angrenzende. Das war das Erbteil der Kinder Ruben, nach ihren Geschlechtern, die Städte und ihre Dörfer.

And the border of the children of Reuben was the Jordan, and the border [thereof]. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

Und Mose gab dem Stamme Gad, den Kindern Gad, nach ihren Geschlechtern.

And Moses gave unto the tribe of Gad, unto the children of Gad, according to their families.

Und es wurde ihnen als Gebiet zuteil: Jaser und alle Städte Gileads, und die Hälfte des Landes der Kinder Ammon bis Aroer, das vor Rabba liegt;

And their border was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah;

und von Hesbon bis Ramath-Mizpe und Betonim, und von Machanaim bis an die Grenze von Lidebir;

and from Heshbon unto Ramath-mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir;

und in der Talebene: Beth-Haram und Beth-Nimra und Sukkoth und Zaphon, der Rest von dem Reiche Sihons, des Königs von Hesbon, der Jordan und das Angrenzende bis an das Ende des Sees Kinnereth, jenseit des Jordan gegen Osten.

and in the valley, Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan and the border [thereof], unto the uttermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward.

Das war das Erbteil der Kinder Gad nach ihren Geschlechtern, die Städte und ihre Dörfer.

This is the inheritance of the children of Gad according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

Und Mose gab dem halben Stamme Manasse. Und dem halben Stamme der Kinder Manasse wurde nach ihren Geschlechtern zuteil.

And Moses gave [inheritance] unto the half-tribe of Manasseh: and it was for the half-tribe of the children of Manasseh according to their families.

Und ihr Gebiet war von Machanaim an, das ganze Basan, das ganze Reich Ogs, des Königs von Basan, und alle Dörfer Jairs, die in Basan sind, sechzig Städte.

And their border was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities:

Und das halbe Gilead, und Astaroth und Edrei, die Städte des Reiches Ogs, in Basan, wurden den Söhnen Makirs, des Sohnes Manasses, zuteil, der Hälfte der Söhne Makirs, nach ihren Geschlechtern.

and half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even for the half of the children of Machir according to their families.

Das ist es, was Mose in den Ebenen Moabs als Erbe ausgeteilt hat, jenseit des Jordan von Jericho, gegen Osten.

These are the inheritances which Moses distributed in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan at Jericho, eastward.

Aber dem Stamme Levi gab Mose kein Erbteil; Jehova, der Gott Israels, ist ihr Erbteil, so wie er zu ihnen geredet hat.

But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance: Jehovah, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he spake unto them.

Kapitel 14

Und dies ist es, was die Kinder Israel als Erbe im Lande Kanaan erhielten, was Eleasar, der Priester, und Josua, der Sohn Nuns, und die Häupter der Väter der Stämme der Kinder Israel ihnen als Erbe austeilten,

And these are the inheritances which the children of Israel took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers` [houses] of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed unto them,

durch das Los ihres Erbteils; so wie Jehova durch Mose geboten hatte betreffs der neun Stämme und des halben Stammes.

by the lot of their inheritance, as Jehovah commanded by Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half-tribe.

Denn das Erbteil der zwei Stämme und des halben Stammes hatte Mose jenseit des Jordan gegeben; den Leviten aber hatte er kein Erbteil in ihrer Mitte gegeben.

For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.

Denn die Söhne Josephs bildeten zwei Stämme, Manasse und Ephraim; und man gab den Leviten kein Teil im Lande, außer Städten zum Wohnen und deren Bezirken für ihr Vieh und für ihre Habe.

For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: and they gave no portion unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for their cattle and for their substance.

So wie Jehova dem Mose geboten hatte, also taten die Kinder Israel, und sie teilten das Land.

As Jehovah commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did; and they divided the land.

Und die Kinder Juda traten in Gilgal zu Josua; und Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes, der Kenisiter, sprach zu ihm: Du kennst das Wort, welches Jehova zu Mose, dem Manne Gottes, meinet- und deinetwegen in Kades-Barnea geredet hat.

Then the children of Judah drew nigh unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that Jehovah spake unto Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning thee in Kadesh-barnea.

Vierzig Jahre war ich alt, als Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, mich von Kades-Barnea aussandte, um das Land auszukundschaften; und ich brachte ihm Antwort, wie es mir ums Herz war.

Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of Jehovah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.

Und meine Brüder, die mit mir hinaufgezogen waren, machten das Herz des Volkes verzagt; ich aber bin Jehova, meinem Gott, völlig nachgefolgt.

Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed Jehovah my God.

Da schwur Mose an selbigem Tage und sprach: Wenn nicht das Land, auf welches dein Fuß getreten ist, dir und deinen Söhnen zum Erbteil wird ewiglich! denn du bist Jehova, meinem Gott, völlig nachgefolgt.

And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy foot hath trodden shall be an inheritance to thee and to thy children for ever, because thou hast wholly followed Jehovah my God.

Und nun siehe, Jehova hat mich am Leben erhalten, so wie er geredet hat, diese 45 Jahre, seitdem Jehova dieses Wort zu Mose geredet hat, als Israel in der Wüste umherwanderte; und nun siehe, ich bin heute 85 Jahre alt.

And now, behold, Jehovah hath kept me alive, as he spake, these forty and five years, from the time that Jehovah spake this word unto Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

Ich bin heute noch so stark wie an dem Tage, da Mose mich aussandte; wie meine Kraft damals, so ist meine Kraft jetzt zum Streite und um aus- und einzuziehen.

As yet I am as strong this day as I as in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, and to go out and to come in.

Und nun gib mir dieses Gebirge, von welchem Jehova an jenem Tage geredet hat; denn du hast an jenem Tage gehört, daß die Enakim daselbst sind und große, feste Städte. Vielleicht ist Jehova mit mir, daß ich sie austreibe, so wie Jehova geredet hat.

Now therefore give me this hill-country, whereof Jehovah spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakim were there, and cities great and fortified: it may be that Jehovah will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as Jehovah spake.

Und Josua segnete ihn und gab dem Kaleb, dem Sohne Jephunnes, Hebron zum Erbteil.

And Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

Daher ward Hebron dem Kaleb, dem Sohne Jephunnes, dem Kenisiter, zum Erbteil bis auf diesen Tag, weil er Jehova, dem Gott Israels, völlig nachgefolgt war.

Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite unto this day; because that he wholly followed Jehovah, the God of Israel.

Der Name Hebrons war aber vordem: Stadt Arbas; er war der größte Mann unter den Enakim. - Und das Land hatte Ruhe vom Kriege.

Now the name of Hebron beforetime was Kiriath-arba; [which Arba was] the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.

Kapitel 15

Und das Los fiel für den Stamm der Kinder Juda, nach ihren Geschlechtern, nach der Grenze Edoms hin, der Wüste Zin, gegen Mittag, im äußersten Süden.

And the lot for the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families was unto the border of Edom, even to the wilderness of Zin southward, at the uttermost part of the south.

Und ihre Südgrenze war vom Ende des Salzmeeres, von der Zunge, die sich gegen Süden wendet;

And their south border was from the uttermost part of the Salt Sea, from the bay that looketh southward;

und sie lief aus südwärts von der Anhöhe Akrabbim und ging hinüber nach Zin, und sie stieg hinauf südlich von Kades-Barnea und ging hinüber nach Hezron, und sie stieg hinauf nach Addar und wandte sich nach Karka,

and it went out southward of the ascent of Akrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and went up by the south of Kadesh-barnea, and passed along by Hezron, and went up to Addar, and turned about to Karka;

und sie ging hinüber nach Azmon und lief aus an dem Bache Ägyptens; und der Ausgang der Grenze war nach dem Meere hin. Das soll eure Südgrenze sein. -

and it passed along to Azmon, and went out at the brook of Egypt; and the goings out of the border were at the sea: this shall be your south border.

Und die Grenze gegen Osten war das Salzmeer bis an das Ende des Jordan. - Und die Grenze an der Nordseite war von der Meereszunge an, vom Ende des Jordan;

And the east border was the Salt Sea, even unto the end of the Jordan. And the border of the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the end of the Jordan;

und die Grenze stieg hinauf nach Beth-Hogla und ging hinüber nördlich von Beth-Araba; und die Grenze stieg hinauf zum Steine Bohans, des Sohnes Rubens;

and the border went up to Beth-hoglah, and passed along by the north of Beth-arabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben;

und die Grenze stieg von dem Tale Achor hinauf nach Debir, und sie wandte sich nördlich nach Gilgal, welches der Anhöhe Adummim gegenüber liegt, die südlich von dem Bache ist; und die Grenze ging hinüber zum Wasser En-Semes, und ihr Ausgang war nach En-Rogel hin;

and the border went up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is over against the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the river; and the border passed along to the waters of En-shemesh, and the goings out thereof were at En-rogel;

und die Grenze stieg das Tal des Sohnes Hinnoms hinauf, nach der Südseite der Jebusiter, das ist Jerusalem; und die Grenze stieg zu dem Gipfel des Berges hinauf, welcher vor dem Tale Hinnom, gegen Westen, am Ende der Talebene der Rephaim, gegen Norden liegt;

and the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the side of the Jebusite southward (the same is Jerusalem); and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the uttermost part of the vale of Rephaim northward;

und die Grenze zog sich herum von dem Gipfel des Berges nach der Quelle des Wassers Nephtoach, und lief nach den Städten des Gebirges Ephron hin; und die Grenze zog sich herum nach Baala, das ist Kirjath-Jearim;

and the border extended from the top of the mountain unto the fountain of the waters of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border extended to Baalah (the same is Kiriath-jearim);

und von Baala wandte sich die Grenze gegen Westen nach dem Gebirge Seir und ging hinüber nach der Nordseite des Berges Jearim, das ist Kesalon, und sie stieg hinab nach Beth-Semes und ging hinüber nach Timna;

and the border turned about from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim on the north (the same is Chesalon), and went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed along by Timnah;

und die Grenze lief nach der Nordseite von Ekron hin; und die Grenze zog sich herum nach Schikkeron und ging hinüber nach dem Berge von Baala, und sie lief aus bei Jabneel; und der Ausgang der Grenze war nach dem Meere hin. -

and the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward; and the border extended to Shikkeron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out at Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea.

Und die Westgrenze war das große Meer und das Angrenzende. Das war die Grenze der Kinder Juda ringsum nach ihren Geschlechtern.

And the west border was to the great sea, and the border [thereof]. This is the border of the children of Judah round about according to their families.

Und Kaleb, dem Sohne Jephunnes, gab er ein Teil inmitten der Kinder Juda, nach dem Befehle Jehovas an Josua: Die Stadt Arbas, des Vaters Enaks, das ist Hebron.

And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of Jehovah to Joshua, even Kiriath-arba, [which Arba was] the father of Anak (the same is Hebron).

Und Kaleb trieb von dannen aus die drei Söhne Enaks, Scheschai und Achiman und Talmai, Kinder Enaks.

And Caleb drove out thence the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

Und von dannen zog er hinauf gegen die Bewohner von Debir; der Name von Debir war aber vordem Kirjath-Sepher.

And he went up thence against the inhabitants of Debir: now the name of Debir beforetime was Kiriath-sepher.

Und Kaleb sprach: Wer Kirjath-Sepher schlägt und es einnimmt, dem gebe ich meine Tochter Aksa zum Weibe.

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

Da nahm es Othniel ein, der Sohn Kenas', ein Bruder Kalebs; und er gab ihm seine Tochter Aksa zum Weibe.

And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

Und es geschah, als sie einzog, da trieb sie ihn an, ein Feld von ihrem Vater zu fordern. Und sie sprang von dem Esel herab. Und Kaleb sprach zu ihr: Was ist dir?

And it came to pass, when she came [unto him], that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she alighted from off her ass; and Caleb said, What wouldest thou?

Und sie sprach: Gib mir einen Segen; denn ein Mittagsland hast du mir gegeben, so gib mir auch Wasserquellen! Da gab er ihr die oberen Quellen und die unteren Quellen.

And she said, Give me a blessing; for that thou hast set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

Das war das Erbteil des Stammes der Kinder Juda, nach ihren Geschlechtern.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.

Und die Städte am Ende des Stammes der Kinder Juda, gegen die Grenze Edoms hin im Süden, waren: Kabzeel und Eder und Jagur,

And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur,

und Kina und Dimona und Adada,

and Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah,

und Kedesch und Hazor und Jithnan;

and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan,

Siph und Telem und Bealoth,

Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth,

und Neu-Hazor und Kerijoth-Hezron, das ist Hazor;

and Hazor-hadattah, and Kerioth-hezron (the same is Hazor),

Amam und Schema und Molada,

Amam, and Shema, and Moladah,

und Hazor-Gadda und Heschmon und Beth-Pelet,

and Hazar-gaddah, and Heshmon, and Beth-pelet,

und Hazar-Schual und Beerseba und Bisjothja;

and Hazar-shual, and Beer-sheba, and Biziothiah,

Baala und Ijim und Ezem,

Baalah, and Iim, and Ezem,

und El-Tolad und Kesil und Horma,

and Eltolad, and Chesil, and Hormah,

und Ziklag und Madmanna und Sansanna,

and Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah,

und Lebaoth und Schilchim und Ajin und Rimmon: aller Städte waren 29 und ihre Dörfer. -

and Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities are twenty and nine, with their villages.

und Schaaraim und Adithaim und Gedera und Gederothaim: vierzehn Städte und ihre Dörfer.

and Shaaraim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages.

Zenan und Hadascha und Migdal-Gad,

from Ekron even unto the sea, all that were by the side of Ashdod, with their villages.

Aber die Jebusiter, die Bewohner von Jerusalem, - die Kinder Juda vermochten sie nicht auszutreiben; und die Jebusiter haben mit den Kindern Juda in Jerusalem gewohnt bis auf diesen Tag.

And as for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.

Kapitel 16

Und das Los kam heraus für die Söhne Josephs vom Jordan von Jericho an, bei dem Wasser von Jericho gegen Osten: die Wüste, die von Jericho auf das Gebirge von Bethel hinaufsteigt;

And the lot came out for the children of Joseph from the Jordan at Jericho, at the waters of Jericho on the east, even the wilderness, going up from Jericho through the hill-country to Beth-el;

und die Grenze lief von Bethel nach Lus und ging hinüber nach der Grenze der Arkiter, nach Ataroth;

and it went out from Beth-el to Luz, and passed along unto the border of the Archites to Ataroth;

und sie stieg westwärts hinab nach der Grenze der Japhletiter, bis an die Grenze von Unter-Beth-Horon und bis Geser; und ihr Ausgang war nach dem Meere hin.

and it went down westward to the border of the Japhletites, unto the border of Beth-horon the nether, even unto Gezer; and the goings out thereof were at the sea.

So erhielten die Söhne Josephs, Manasse und Ephraim, ihr Erbteil.

And the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

Und es war die Grenze der Kinder Ephraim, nach ihren Geschlechtern: die Grenze ihres Erbteils gegen Osten war Ateroth-Addar bis Ober-Beth-Horon,

And the border of the children of Ephraim according to their families was [thus]: the border of their inheritance eastward was Ataroth-addar, unto Beth-horon the upper;

und die Grenze lief gegen Westen nach Mikmethath hin, nördlich; und die Grenze wandte sich gegen Osten nach Taanath-Silo und ging daran vorbei gegen Osten nach Janocha;

and the border went out westward at Michmethath on the north; and the border turned about eastward unto Taanath-shiloh, and passed along it on the east of Janoah;

und sie stieg von Janocha hinab nach Ataroth und Naarath, und stieß an Jericho und lief aus am Jordan;

and it went down from Janoah to Ataroth, and to Naarah, and reached unto Jericho, and went out at the Jordan.

von Tappuach ging die Grenze gegen Westen nach dem Bache Kana, und ihr Ausgang war nach dem Meere hin. Das war das Erbteil des Stammes der Kinder Ephraim nach ihren Geschlechtern,

From Tappuah the border went along westward to the brook of Kanah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim according to their families;

nebst den Städten, welche für die Kinder Ephraim abgesondert wurden inmitten des Erbteils der Kinder Manasse: alle Städte und ihre Dörfer. -

together with the cities which were set apart for the children of Ephraim in the midst of the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages.

Aber sie trieben die Kanaaniter nicht aus, die zu Geser wohnten; und die Kanaaniter haben inmitten von Ephraim gewohnt bis auf diesen Tag, und sie wurden fronpflichtig.

And they drove not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell in the midst of Ephraim unto this day, and are become servants to do taskwork.

Kapitel 17

Und das Los kam heraus für den Stamm Manasse, denn er war der Erstgeborene Josephs - für Makir, den Erstgeborenen Manasses, den Vater Gileads; da er ein Kriegsmann war, so wurden ihm Gilead und Basan zuteil.

And [this] was the lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the first-born of Joseph. As for Machir the first-born of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.

Und es kam heraus für die übrigen Söhne Manasses, nach ihren Geschlechtern: für die Söhne Abiesers und für die Söhne Heleks und für die Söhne Asriels und für die Söhne Sichems und für die Söhne Hephers und für die Söhne Schemidas; das waren die Kinder Manasses, des Sohnes Josephs, die Männlichen, nach ihren Geschlechtern.

So [the lot] was for the rest of the children of Manasseh according to their families: for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families.

Und Zelophchad, der Sohn Hephers, des Sohnes Gileads, des Sohnes Makirs, des Sohnes Manasses, hatte keine Söhne, sondern nur Töchter; und dies sind die Namen seiner Töchter: Machla und Noa, Chogla, Milka und Tirza.

But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

Und sie traten herzu vor Eleasar, den Priester, und vor Josua, den Sohn Nuns, und vor die Fürsten, und sprachen: Jehova hat Mose geboten, uns ein Erbteil unter unseren Brüdern zu geben. Und er gab ihnen, nach dem Befehle Jehovas, ein Erbteil unter den Brüdern ihres Vaters.

And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, Jehovah commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren: therefore according to the commandment of Jehovah he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.

Und so fielen dem Manasse zehn Anteile zu, außer dem Lande Gilead und Basan, das jenseit des Jordan liegt;

And there fell ten parts to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan;

denn die Töchter Manasses erhielten ein Erbteil unter seinen Söhnen. Das Land Gilead aber wurde den übrigen Söhnen Manasses zuteil.

because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons. And the land of Gilead belonged unto the rest of the sons of Manasseh.

Und die Grenze Manasses war von Aser nach Mikmethath, das vor Sichem liegt; und die Grenze ging nach rechts zu den Bewohnern von En-Tappuach hin.

And the border of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethath, which is before Shechem; and the border went along to the right hand, unto the inhabitants of En-tappuah.

Dem Manasse gehörte das Land Tappuach; aber Tappuach, an der Grenze Manasses, gehörte den Kindern Ephraim.

The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh; but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim.

Und die Grenze stieg hinab nach dem Bache Kana, südlich vom Bache. Diese Städte gehörten Ephraim inmitten der Städte Manasses. Und das Gebiet Manasses war nördlich vom Bache, und sein Ausgang war nach dem Meere hin.

And the border went down unto the brook of Kanah, southward of the brook: these cities belonged to Ephraim among the cities of Manasseh: and the border of Manasseh was on the north side of the brook, and the goings out thereof were at the sea:

Gegen Süden gehörte es dem Ephraim, und gegen Norden dem Manasse; und das Meer war seine Grenze. Und gegen Norden stießen sie an Aser, und gegen Osten an Issaschar.

southward it was Ephraim`s, and northward it was Manasseh`s, and the sea was his border; and they reached to Asher on the north, and to Issachar on the east.

Und Manasse erhielt in Issaschar und in Aser: Beth-Schean und seine Tochterstädte, und Jibleam und seine Tochterstädte, und die Bewohner von Dor und seine Tochterstädte, und die Bewohner von Dor und seine Tochterstädte, und die Bewohner von Taanak und seine Tochterstädte, und die Bewohner von Megiddo und seine Tochterstädte: das Dreihügelgebiet. -

And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Beth-shean and its towns, and Ibleam and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of En-dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, even the three heights.

Aber die Kinder Manasse vermochten diese Städte nicht in Besitz zu nehmen, und die Kanaaniter wollten in diesem Lande bleiben.

Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out [the inhabitants of] those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

Und es geschah, als die Kinder Israel erstarkten, da machten sie die Kanaaniter fronpflichtig; aber sie trieben sie keineswegs aus.

And it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxed strong, that they put the Canaanites to taskwork, and did not utterly drive them out.

Und die Kinder Joseph redeten zu Josua und sprachen: Warum hast du mir nur ein Los und eine Meßschnur als Erbteil gegeben, da ich doch ein zahlreiches Volk bin, soweit Jehova mich bis jetzt gesegnet hat?

And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one part for an inheritance, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as hitherto Jehovah hath blessed me?

Und Josua sprach zu ihnen: Wenn du ein zahlreiches Volk bist, so ziehe in den Wald hinauf und haue dir daselbst aus in dem Lande der Perisiter und der Rephaim, wenn dir das Gebirge Ephraim zu enge ist.

And Joshua said unto them, If thou be a great people, get thee up to the forest, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim; since the hill-country of Ephraim is too narrow for thee.

Und die Kinder Joseph sprachen: Das Gebirge reicht für uns nicht aus, und bei allen Kanaanitern, die im Tallande wohnen, sind eiserne Wagen: bei denen, die in Beth-Schean und seinen Tochterstädten, und bei denen, die im Tale Jisreel wohnen.

And the children of Joseph said, The hill-country is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are in Beth-shean and its towns, and they who are in the valley of Jezreel.

Da sprach Josua zum Hause Joseph, zu Ephraim und zu Manasse, und sagte: Du bist ein zahlreiches Volk und hast eine große Kraft; nicht ein Los sollst du haben,

And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power; thou shalt not have one lot only:

sondern das Gebirge soll dir zuteil werden. Da es ein Wald ist, so haue ihn aus, und seine Ausläufer sollen dir gehören; denn du wirst die Kanaaniter austreiben, wenn sie auch eiserne Wagen haben, und wenn sie auch stark sind.

but the hill-country shall be thine; for though it is a forest, thou shalt cut it down, and the goings out thereof shall be thine; for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.

Kapitel 18

Und die ganze Gemeinde der Kinder Israel versammelte sich nach Silo, und sie schlugen daselbst das Zelt der Zusammenkunft auf; und das Land war vor ihnen unterjocht.

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled themselves together at Shiloh, and set up the tent of meeting there: and the land was subdued before them.

Und es blieben unter den Kindern Israel sieben Stämme übrig, deren Erbteil man noch nicht ausgeteilt hatte.

And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet divided their inheritance.

Da sprach Josua zu den Kindern Israel: Wie lange werdet ihr euch lässig zeigen hinzugehen, um das Land in Besitz zu nehmen, welches Jehova, der Gott eurer Väter, euch gegeben hat?

And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go in to possess the land, which Jehovah, the God of your fathers, hath given you?

Nehmet euch drei Männer für den Stamm, und ich will sie aussenden; und sie sollen sich aufmachen und das Land durchwandern und es aufschreiben nach Verhältnis ihres Erbteils, und dann zu mir kommen.

Appoint for you three men of each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall arise, and walk through the land, and describe it according to their inheritance; and they shall come unto me.

Und sie sollen es unter sich in sieben Teile verteilen. Juda soll auf seinem Gebiet bleiben gegen Süden, und das Haus Joseph soll auf seinem Gebiet bleiben gegen Norden.

And they shall divide it into seven portions: Judah shall abide in his border on the south, and the house of Joseph shall abide in their border on the north.

Ihr aber sollt das Land aufschreiben zu sieben Teilen und mir das Verzeichnis hierherbringen; und ich werde euch das Los werfen, hier vor Jehova, unserem Gott.

And ye shall describe the land into seven portions, and bring [the description] hither to me; and I will cast lots for you here before Jehovah our God.

Denn die Leviten haben kein Teil in eurer Mitte, denn das Priestertum Jehovas ist ihr Erbteil. Und Gad und Ruben und der halbe Stamm Manasse haben jenseit des Jordan, gegen Osten, ihr Erbteil empfangen, welches Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, ihnen gegeben hat.

For the Levites have no portion among you; for the priesthood of Jehovah is their inheritance: and Gad and Reuben and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan eastward, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave them.

Und die Männer machten sich auf und gingen hin. Und Josua gebot denen, die hingingen, um das Land aufzuschreiben, und sprach: Gehet hin und durchwandert das Land und schreibet es auf und kommet wieder zu mir; und hier werde ich euch das Los werfen vor Jehova, zu Silo.

And the men arose, and went: and Joshua charged them that went to describe the land, saying, Go and walk through the land, and describe it, and come again to me; and I will cast lots for you here before Jehovah in Shiloh.

Und die Männer gingen hin und durchzogen das Land und schrieben es, nach den Städten, zu sieben Teilen auf in ein Buch; und sie kamen zu Josua in das Lager nach Silo zurück.

And the men went and passed through the land, and described it by cities into seven portions in a book; and they came to Joshua unto the camp at Shiloh.

Da warf ihnen Josua das Los zu Silo vor Jehova. Und Josua teilte daselbst das Land den Kindern Israel aus nach ihren Abteilungen.

And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before Jehovah: and there Joshua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions.

Und es kam herauf das Los des Stammes der Kinder Benjamin nach ihren Geschlechtern. Und das Gebiet ihres Loses kam heraus zwischen den Kindern Juda und den Kindern Joseph.

And the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their families: and the border of their lot went out between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph.

Und ihre Grenze auf der Nordseite fing am Jordan an; und die Grenze stieg hinauf nach der Nordseite von Jericho und stieg auf das Gebirge gegen Westen, und ihr Ausgang war nach der Wüste von Beth-Awen hin;

And their border on the north quarter was from the Jordan; and the border went up to the side of Jericho on the north, and went up through the hill-country westward; and the goings out thereof were at the wilderness of Beth-aven.

und von dort ging die Grenze hinüber nach Lus, nach der Südseite von Lus, das ist Bethel; und die Grenze stieg hinab nach Ateroth-Addar, bei dem Berge, der südlich von Unter-Beth-Horon ist. -

And the border passed along from thence to Luz, to the side of Luz (the same is Beth-el), southward; and the border went down to Ataroth-addar, by the mountain that lieth on the south of Beth-horon the nether.

Und die Grenze zog sich herum und wandte sich nach der Westseite, südwärts von dem Berge, der vor Beth-Horon nach Süden liegt, und ihr Ausgang war nach Kirjath-Baal hin, das ist Kirjath-Jearim, einer Stadt der Kinder Juda; das war die Westseite. -

And the border extended [thence], and turned about on the west quarter southward, from the mountain that lieth before Beth-horon southward; and the goings out thereof were at Kiriath-baal (the same is Kiriath-jearim), a city of the children of Judah: this was the west quarter.

Und die Südseite fing an am Ende von Kirjath-Jearim; und die Grenze lief aus nach Westen hin, und sie lief nach der Quelle des Wassers Nephtoach hin;

And the south quarter was from the uttermost part of Kiriath-jearim; and the border went out westward, and went out to the fountain of the waters of Nephtoah;

und die Grenze stieg hinab zu dem Ende des Berges, welcher vor dem Tale des Sohnes Hinnoms in der Talebene der Rephaim gegen Norden liegt; und sie stieg das Tal Hinnom hinab nach der Südseite der Jebusiter, und sie stieg hinab nach En-Rogel;

and the border went down to the uttermost part of the mountain that lieth before the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is in the vale of Rephaim northward; and it went down to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of the Jebusite southward, and went down to En-rogel;

und sie zog sich nordwärts herum und lief nach En-Semes, und sie lief nach Geliloth hin, das der Anhöhe Adummim gegenüber liegt; und sie stieg hinab zum Steine Bohans, des Sohnes Rubens,

and it extended northward, and went out at En-shemesh, and went out to Geliloth, which is over against the ascent of Adummim; and it went down to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben;

und ging hinüber nach der Seite, die der Araba nordwärts gegenüber liegt, und stieg hinab nach der Araba;

and it passed along to the side over against the Arabah northward, and went down unto the Arabah;

und die Grenze ging hinüber nach der Nordseite von Beth-Hogla, und der Ausgang der Grenze war nach der nördlichen Zunge des Salzmeeres, nach dem südlichen Ende des Jordan hin. Das war die Südgrenze. -

and the border passed along to the side of Beth-hoglah northward; and the goings out of the border were at the north bay of the Salt Sea, at the south end of the Jordan: this was the south border.

Und der Jordan begrenzte es an der Ostseite. Das war das Erbteil der Kinder Benjamin, nach seinen Grenzen ringsum, nach ihren Geschlechtern.

And the Jordan was the border of it on the east quarter. This was the inheritance of the children of Benjamin, by the borders thereof round about, according to their families.

Und die Städte des Stammes der Kinder Benjamin, nach ihren Geschlechtern, waren: Jericho und Beth-Hogla und Emek-Keziz,

Now the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho, and Beth-hoglah, and Emek-keziz,

und Beth-Araba und Zemaraim und Bethel,

and Beth-arabah, and Zemaraim, and Beth-el,

und Awim und Para und Ophra,

and Avvim, and Parah, and Ophrah,

und Kephar-Ammoni und Ophni und Geba: Zwölf Städte und ihre Dörfer;

and Chephar-ammoni, and Ophni, and Geba; twelve cities with their villages:

Gibeon und Rama und Beeroth,

Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth,

und Mizpe und Kephira und Moza,

and Mizpeh, and Chephirah, and Mozah,

und Rekem und Jirpeel und Tarala,

Kapitel 19

Und das zweite Los kam herauf für Simeon, für den Stamm der Kinder Simeon, nach ihren Geschlechtern; und ihr Erbteil war mitten in dem Erbteil der Kinder Juda.

And the second lot came out for Simeon, even for the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families: and their inheritance was in the midst of the inheritance of the children of Judah.

Und es ward ihnen zum Erbteil: Beerseba und Scheba und Molada,

And they had for their inheritance Beer-sheba, or Sheba, and Moladah,

und Hazar-Schual und Bala und Ezem,

and Hazar-shual, and Balah, and Ezem,

und Eltolad und Bethul und Horma,

and Eltolad, and Bethul, and Hormah,

und Ziklag und Beth-Markaboth und Hazar-Susa,

and Ziklag, and Beth-marcaboth, and Hazar-susah,

und Beth-Lebaoth und Scharuchen: dreizehn Städte und ihre Dörfer;

and Beth-lebaoth, and Sharuhen; thirteen cities with their villages:

Ain, Rimmon und Ether und Aschan: vier Städte und ihre Dörfer;

Ain, Rimmon, and Ether, and Ashan; four cities with their villages:

und alle Dörfer, die rings um diese Städte liegen, bis Baalath-Beer, das ist Süd-Ramath. Das war das Erbteil des Stammes der Kinder Simeon, nach ihren Geschlechtern.

and all the villages that were round about these cities to Baalath-beer, Ramah of the South. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families.

Von der Meßschnur der Kinder Juda war das Erbteil der Kinder Simeon; denn das Teil der Kinder Juda war zu groß für sie, und so erhielten die Kinder Simeon ihr Erbteil mitten in ihrem Erbteil.

Out of the part of the children of Judah was the inheritance of the children of Simeon; for the portion of the children of Judah was too much for them: therefore the children of Simeon had inheritance in the midst of their inheritance.

Und das dritte Los kam herauf für die Kinder Sebulon, nach ihren Geschlechtern. Und die Grenze ihres Erbteils war bis Sarid;

And the third lot came up for the children of Zebulun according to their families; and the border of their inheritance was unto Sarid;

und ihre Grenze stieg hinauf westwärts, und zwar nach Marhala, und stieß an Dabbescheth und stieß an den Bach, der vor Jokneam fließt;

and their border went up westward, even to Maralah, and reached to Dabbesheth; and it reached to the brook that is before Jokneam;

and it turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrising unto the border of Chisloth-tabor; and it went out to Daberath, and went up to Japhia;

und von dort ging sie hinüber ostwärts gegen Sonnenaufgang, nach Gath-Hepher, nach Eth-Kazin, und lief aus bei Rimmon, das sich nach Nea hin erstreckt.

and from thence it passed along eastward to Gath-hepher, to Eth-kazin; and it went out at Rimmon which stretcheth unto Neah;

Und die Grenze wandte sich um dasselbe nördlich nach Hannathon, und ihr Ausgang war das Tal Jiphtach-El; ...

and the border turned about it on the north to Hannathon; and the goings out thereof were at the valley of Iphtah-el;

und Kattath und Nahalal und Schimron und Jidala und Bethlehem: zwölf Städte und ihre Dörfer.

and Kattath, and Nahalal, and Shimron, and Idalah, and Bethlehem: twelve cities with their villages.

Das war das Erbteil der Kinder Sebulon, nach ihren Geschlechtern, diese Städte und ihre Dörfer.

This is the inheritance of the children of Zebulun according to their families, these cities with their villages.

Für Issaschar kam das vierte Los heraus, für die Kinder Issaschar, nach ihren Geschlechtern.

The fourth lot came out for Issachar, even for the children of Issachar according to their families.

Und ihr Gebiet war nach Jisreel hin, und Kesulloth und Schunem,

And their border was unto Jezreel, and Chesulloth, and Shunem,

und Hapharaim und Schion und Anacharath,

and Hapharaim, and Shion, and Anaharath,

und Rabbith und Kischjon und Ebez,

and Rabbith, and Kishion, and Ebez,

und Remeth und En-Gannim und En-Hadda und Beth-Pazez;

and Remeth, and Engannim, and En-haddah, and Beth-pazzez,

und die Grenze stieß an Tabor und Schachazuma und Beth-Semes, und der Ausgang ihrer Grenze war am Jordan: sechzehn Städte und ihre Dörfer.

and the border reached to Tabor, and Shahazumah, and Beth-shemesh; and the goings out of their border were at the Jordan: sixteen cities with their villages.

Das war das Erbteil des Stammes der Kinder Issaschar, nach ihren Geschlechtern, die Städte und ihre Dörfer.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Issachar according to their families, the cities with their villages.

Und das fünfte Los kam heraus für den Stamm der Kinder Aser, nach ihren Geschlechtern.

And the fifth lot came out for the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families.

Und ihre Grenze war: Helkath und Hali und Beten und Akschaph,

And their border was Helkath, and Hali, and Beten, and Achshaph,

und Allammelek und Amhad und Mischeal; und sie stieß an den Karmel, gegen Westen, und an den Sihor-Libnath;

and Allammelech, and Amad, and Mishal; and it reached to Carmel westward, and to Shihor-libnath;

und sie kehrte um gegen Sonnenaufgang nach Beth-Dagon und stieß an Sebulon und an das Tal Jiphtach-El, nördlich von Beth-Emek und Nehiel, und sie lief nach Kabul hin zur Linken,

and it turned toward the sunrising to Beth-dagon, and reached to Zebulun, and to the valley of Iphtah-el northward to Beth-emek and Neiel; and it went out to Cabul on the left hand,

und Ebron und Rechob und Hammon und Kana, bis Zidon, der großen Stadt;

and Ebron, and Rehob, and Hammon, and Kanah, even unto great Sidon;

und die Grenze kehrte um nach Rama und bis zur festen Stadt Tyrus; und die Grenze kehrte um nach Hosa, und ihr Ausgang war nach dem Meere hin von dem Striche Aksib an; ...

and the border turned to Ramah, and to the fortified city of Tyre; and the border turned to Hosah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea by the region of Achzib;

und Umma und Aphek und Rechob: 22 Städte und ihre Dörfer.

Ummah also, and Aphek, and Rehob: twenty and two cities with their villages.

Das war das Erbteil des Stammes der Kinder Aser, nach ihren Geschlechtern, diese Städte und ihre Dörfer.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families, these cities with their villages.

Für die Kinder Naphtali kam das sechste Los heraus, für die Kinder Naphtali, nach ihren Geschlechtern.

The sixth lot came out for the children of Naphtali, even for the children of Naphtali according to their families.

Und ihre Grenze war von Heleph, von der Terebinthe zu Zaanannim, und Adami-Nekeb und Jabneel bis Lakum, und ihr Ausgang war am Jordan;

And their border was from Heleph, from the oak in Zaanannim, and Adaminekeb, and Jabneel, unto Lakkum; and the goings out thereof were at the Jordan;

und die Grenze kehrte um westwärts nach Asnoth-Tabor und lief von dort nach Hukkok hin. Und so stieß sie an Sebulon gegen Süden, und an Aser stieß sie gegen Westen, und an Juda am Jordan gegen Sonnenaufgang.

and the border turned westward to Aznoth-tabor, and went out from thence to Hukkok; and it reached to Zebulun on the south, and reached to Asher on the west, and to Judah at the Jordan toward the sunrising.

Und die festen Städte waren: Ziddim, Zer und Hammath, Rakkath und Kinnereth,

And the fortified cities were Ziddim, Zer, and Hammath, Rakkath, and Chinnereth,

und Adama und Rama und Hazor,

and Adamah, and Ramah, and Hazor,

und Kedes und Edrei und En-Hazor,

and Kedesh, and Edrei, and En-hazor,

und Jiron und Migdal-El, Horem und Beth-Anath und Beth-Semes: neunzehn Städte und ihre Dörfer.

And Iron, and Migdal-el, Horem, and Beth-anath, and Beth-shemesh; nineteen cities with their villages.

Das war das Erbteil des Stammes der Kinder Naphtali, nach ihren Geschlechtern, die Städte und ihre Dörfer.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Naphtali according to their families, the cities with their villages.

Für den Stamm der Kinder Dan, nach ihren Geschlechtern, kam das siebte Los heraus.

The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families.

Und das Gebiet ihres Erbteils war: Zorha und Eschtaol und Ir-Semes,

And the border of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Ir-shemesh,

und Schaalabbin und Ajjalon und Jithla,

and Shaalabbin, and Aijalon, and Ithlah,

und Elon und Timnatha und Ekron,

and Elon, and Timnah, and Ekron,

und Elteke und Gibbethon und Baalath,

and Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath,

und Jehud und Bne-Berak und Gath-Rimmon,

and Jehud, and Bene-berak, and Gath-rimmon,

und Me-Jarkon und Rakkon, mit dem Gebiete gegenüber Japho.

and Me-jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border over against Joppa.

Und die Grenze der Kinder Dan ging später weiter als diese; denn die Kinder Dan zogen hinauf und stritten wider Leschem, und nahmen es ein und schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, und sie nahmen es in Besitz und wohnten darin; und sie nannten Leschem Dan, nach dem Namen ihres Vaters Dan.

And the border of the children of Dan went out beyond them; for the children of Dan went up and fought against Leshem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

Das war das Erbteil des Stammes der Kinder Dan nach ihren Geschlechtern, diese Städte und ihre Dörfer.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families, these cities with their villages.

Und als sie die Verteilung des Landes nach seinen Grenzen vollendet hatten, gaben die Kinder Israel Josua, dem Sohne Nuns, ein Erbteil in ihrer Mitte.

So they made an end of distributing the land for inheritance by the borders thereof; and the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun in the midst of them:

Nach dem Befehle Jehovas gaben sie ihm die Stadt, die er verlangte, Timnath-Serach im Gebirge Ephraim; und er baute die Stadt und wohnte darin.

according to the commandment of Jehovah they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnath-serah in the hill-country of Ephraim; and he built the city, and dwelt therein.

Das sind die Erbteile, welche Eleasar, der Priester, und Josua, der Sohn Nuns, und die Häupter der Väter der Stämme der Kinder Israel durch das Los austeilten zu Silo, vor Jehova, an dem Eingang des Zeltes der Zusammenkunft. Und so vollendeten sie die Verteilung des Landes.

These are the inheritances, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers` [houses] of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance by lot in Shiloh before Jehovah, at the door of the tent of meeting. So they made an end of dividing the land.

Kapitel 20

Und Jehova redete zu Josua und sprach:

And Jehovah spake unto Joshua, saying,

Rede zu den Kindern Israel und sprich: Bestimmet euch die Zufluchtstädte, von welchen ich durch Mose zu euch geredet habe,

Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Assign you the cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by Moses,

daß dahin fliehe ein Totschläger, der jemand aus Versehen, unabsichtlich, erschlagen hat; und sie seien euch zur Zuflucht vor dem Bluträcher.

that the manslayer that killeth any person unwittingly [and] unawares may flee thither: and they shall be unto you for a refuge from the avenger of blood.

Und er soll in eine von diesen Städten fliehen, und an dem Eingang des Stadttores stehen und vor den Ohren der Ältesten jener Stadt seine Sache vorbringen; und sie sollen ihn zu sich in die Stadt aufnehmen und ihm einen Ort geben, daß er bei ihnen wohne.

And he shall flee unto one of those cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city; and they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

Und wenn der Bluträcher ihm nachjagt, so sollen sie den Totschläger nicht in seine Hand ausliefern; denn er hat seinen Nächsten unabsichtlich erschlagen, und er haßte ihn vordem nicht.

And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver up the manslayer into his hand; because he smote his neighbor unawares, and hated him not beforetime.

Und er soll in jener Stadt wohnen, bis er vor der Gemeinde zu Gericht gestanden hat, bis zum Tode des Hohenpriesters, der in jenen Tagen sein wird; alsdann mag der Totschläger zurückkehren und in seine Stadt und in sein Haus kommen, in die Stadt, aus welcher er geflohen ist. -

And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the manslayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.

Und sie heiligten Kedes in Galiläa, im Gebirge Naphtali, und Sichem im Gebirge Ephraim, und Kirjath-Arba, das ist Hebron, im Gebirge Juda.

And they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (the same is Hebron) in the hill-country of Judah.

Und jenseit des Jordan von Jericho, gegen Osten, bestimmten sie Bezer in der Wüste, in der Ebene, vom Stamme Ruben; und Ramoth in Gilead, vom Stamme Gad; und Golan in Basan, vom Stamme Manasse.

And beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

Das waren die bestimmten Städte für alle Kinder Israel und für den Fremdling, der in ihrer Mitte weilte, auf daß dahin fliehe ein jeder, der jemand aus Versehen erschlagen würde, damit er nicht durch die Hand des Bluträchers sterbe, bis er vor der Gemeinde gestanden habe.

These were the appointed cities for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person unwittingly might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

Kapitel 21

Und die Häupter der Väter der Leviten traten zu Eleasar, dem Priester, und zu Josua, dem Sohne Nuns, und zu den Häuptern der Väter der Stämme der Kinder Israel,

Then came near the heads of fathers` [houses] of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the heads of fathers` [houses] of the tribes of the children of Israel;

und redeten zu ihnen zu Silo, im Lande Kanaan, und sprachen: Jehova hat durch Mose geboten, uns Städte zum Wohnen zu geben, und deren Bezirke für unser Vieh.

and they spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, Jehovah commanded Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle.

Und die Kinder Israel gaben den Leviten von ihrem Erbteil diese Städte und ihre Bezirke, nach dem Befehle Jehovas:

And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, according to the commandment of Jehovah, these cities with their suburbs.

Und das Los kam heraus für die Familien der Kehathiter. Und die Söhne Aarons, des Priesters, aus den Leviten, erhielten vom Stamme Juda und vom Stamme der Simeoniter und vom Stamme Benjamin, durchs Los, dreizehn Städte;

And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of the Simeonites, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.

und die übrigen Söhne Kehaths, von den Geschlechtern des Stammes Ephraim und vom Stamme Dan und vom halben Stamme Manasse, durchs Los, zehn Städte.

And the rest of the children of Kohath had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities.

Und die Söhne Gersons erhielten von den Geschlechtern des Stammes Issaschar und vom Stamme Aser und vom Stamme Naphtali und vom halben Stamme Manasse in Basan, durchs Los, dreizehn Städte;

And the children of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.

die Söhne Meraris, nach ihren Familien, vom Stamme Ruben und vom Stamme Gad und vom Stamme Sebulon zwölf Städte.

The children of Merari according to their families had out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

Und so gaben die Kinder Israel den Leviten diese Städte und ihre Bezirke durchs Los, so wie Jehova durch Mose geboten hatte.

And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as Jehovah commanded by Moses.

Und sie gaben vom Stamme der Kinder Juda und vom Stamme der Kinder Simeon folgende Städte, die man mit Namen nannte;

And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are [here] mentioned by name:

und sie wurden den Söhnen Aarons, von den Familien der Kehathiter, aus den Kindern Levi, zuteil (denn für sie war das erste Los).

and they were for the children of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi; for theirs was the first lot.

Und sie gaben ihnen die Stadt Arbas, des Vaters Enaks, das ist Hebron, im Gebirge Juda, und ihre Bezirke rings um sie her.

And they gave them Kiriath-arba, [which Arba was] the father of Anak (the same is Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah, with the suburbs thereof round about it.

Aber das Feld der Stadt und ihre Dörfer gaben sie Kaleb, dem Sohne Jephunnes, als sein Eigentum.

But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, gave they to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.

Und sie gaben den Söhnen Aarons, des Priesters, die Zufluchtstadt für den Totschläger, Hebron und seine Bezirke; und Libna und seine Bezirke,

And unto the children of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Libnah with its suburbs,

und Jattir und seine Bezirke, und Eschtemoa und seine Bezirke,

and Jattir with its suburbs, and Eshtemoa with its suburbs,

und Holon und seine Bezirke, und Debir und seine Bezirke,

and Holon with its suburbs, and Debir with its suburbs,

und Ain und seine Bezirke, und Jutta und seine Bezirke, und Beth-Semes und seine Bezirke: neun Städte von diesen beiden Stämmen.

and Ain with its suburbs, and Juttah with its suburbs, [and] Beth-shemesh with its suburbs; nine cities out of those two tribes.

Und vom Stamme Benjamin: Gibeon und seine Bezirke, Geba und seine Bezirke,

And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its suburbs, Geba with its suburbs,

Anathoth und seine Bezirke, und Almon und seine Bezirke: vier Städte.

Anathoth with its suburbs, and Almon with its suburbs; four cities.

Alle Städte der Söhne Aarons, der Priester: dreizehn Städte und ihre Bezirke.

All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their suburbs.

Und was die Familien der Söhne Kehaths, der Leviten, die übrigen von den Söhnen Kehaths, betrifft, so waren die Städte ihres Loses vom Stamme Ephraim.

And the families of the children of Kohath, the Levites, even the rest of the children of Kohath, they had the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephraim.

Und sie gaben ihnen die Zufluchtstadt für den Totschläger, Sichem und seine Bezirke im Gebirge Ephraim; und Geser und seine Bezirke,

And they gave them Shechem with its suburbs in the hill-country of Ephraim, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Gezer with its suburbs,

und Kibzaim und seine Bezirke, und Beth-Horon und seine Bezirke: vier Städte.

and Kibzaim with its suburbs, and Beth-horon with its suburbs; four cities.

Und vom Stamme Dan: Elteke und seine Bezirke, Gibbethon und seine Bezirke,

And out of the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its suburbs, Gibbethon with its suburbs,

Ajjalon und seine Bezirke, Gath-Rimmon und seine Bezirke: vier Städte.

Aijalon with its suburbs, Gath-rimmon with its suburbs; four cities.

Und von der Hälfte des Stammes Manasse: Taanak und seine Bezirke, und Gath-Rimmon und seine Bezirke: zwei Städte.

And out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its suburbs, and Gath-rimmon with its suburbs; two cities.

Aller Städte waren zehn und ihre Bezirke, für die Familien der übrigen Söhne Kehaths.

All the cities of the families of the rest of the children of Kohath were ten with their suburbs.

Und den Söhnen Gersons, aus den Geschlechtern der Leviten, gaben sie vom halben Stamme Manasse: Die Zufluchtstadt für den Totschläger, Golan in Basan und seine Bezirke; und Beeschtera und seine Bezirke: zwei Städte.

And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the half-tribe of Manasseh [they gave] Golan in Bashan with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Be-eshterah with its suburbs; two cities.

Und vom Stamme Issaschar: Kischjon und seine Bezirke, Daberath und seine Bezirke,

And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its suburbs, Daberath with its suburbs,

Jarmuth und seine Bezirke, En-Gannim und seine Bezirke: vier Städte.

Und vom Stamme Aser: Mischeal und seine Bezirke, Abdon und seine Bezirke,

And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its suburbs, Abdon with its suburbs,

Helkath with its suburbs, and Rehob with its suburbs; four cities.

Und vom Stamme Naphtali: Die Zufluchtstadt für den Totschläger, Kedes in Galiläa und seine Bezirke; und Hammoth-Dor und seine Bezirke, und Kartan und seine Bezirke: drei Städte.

And out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Hammoth-dor with its suburbs, and Kartan with its suburbs; three cities.

Alle Städte der Gersoniter, nach ihren Familien: dreizehn Städte und ihre Bezirke.

All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their suburbs.

Und den Familien der Söhne Meraris, den übrigen Leviten, gaben sie vom Stamme Sebulon: Jokneam und seine Bezirke, Karta und seine Bezirke,

And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its suburbs, and Jahaz with its suburbs,

Kedemoth und seine Bezirke, und Mephaath und seine Bezirke: vier Städte.

Kedemoth with its suburbs, and Mephaath with its suburbs; four cities.

Und vom Stamme Gad: die Zufluchtstadt für den Totschläger, Ramoth in Gilead und seine Bezirke; und Machanaim und seine Bezirke,

And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its suburbs, the city of refuge for the manslayer, and Mahanaim with its suburbs,

Hesbon und seine Bezirke, Jaser und seine Bezirke; aller Städte waren vier.

Heshbon with its suburbs, Jazer with its suburbs; four cities in all.

Alle Städte der Söhne Meraris, nach ihren Familien, der übrigen von den Geschlechtern der Leviten: ihr Los war zwölf Städte.

All [these were] the cities of the children of Merari according to their families, even the rest of the families of the Levites; and their lot was twelve cities.

Alle Städte der Leviten inmitten des Eigentums der Kinder Israel: 48 Städte und ihre Bezirke.

All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.

Diese Städte hatten, Stadt für Stadt, ihre Bezirke rings um sich her: also war es bei allen diesen Städten.

These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus it was with all these cities.

Und so gab Jehova Israel das ganze Land, welches er ihren Vätern zu geben geschworen hatte; und sie nahmen es in Besitz und wohnten darin.

So Jehovah gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.

Und Jehova schaffte ihnen Ruhe ringsumher nach allem, was er ihren Vätern geschworen hatte; und keiner von allen ihren Feinden hielt vor ihnen stand: alle ihre Feinde gab Jehova in ihre Hand.

And Jehovah gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; Jehovah delivered all their enemies into their hand.

Es fiel kein Wort dahin von all den guten Worten, welche Jehova zu dem Hause Israel geredet hatte; alles traf ein.

There failed not aught of any good thing which Jehovah had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

Kapitel 22

Damals berief Josua die Rubeniter und die Gaditer und den halben Stamm Manasse,

Then Joshua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh,

und er sprach zu ihnen: Ihr habt alles beobachtet, was Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, euch geboten hat, und habt meiner Stimme gehorcht in allem, was ich euch geboten habe.

and said unto them, Ye have kept all that Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, and have hearkened unto my voice in all that I commanded you:

Ihr habt eure Brüder nicht verlassen diese lange Zeit bis auf diesen Tag, und habt das Gebot Jehovas, eures Gottes, beobachtet.

ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of Jehovah your God.

Und nun hat Jehova, euer Gott, euren Brüdern Ruhe geschafft, wie er zu ihnen geredet hat; und nun wendet euch und ziehet nach euren Zelten, in das Land eures Eigentums, welches Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, euch jenseit des Jordan gegeben hat.

And now Jehovah your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as he spake unto them: therefore now turn ye, and get you unto your tents, unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you beyond the Jordan.

Nur achtet wohl darauf, das Gebot und das Gesetz zu tun, welches Mose, der Knecht Jehovas, euch geboten hat: Jehova, euren Gott, zu lieben und auf allen seinen Wegen zu wandeln und seine Gebote zu beobachten, und ihm anzuhangen und ihm zu dienen mit eurem ganzen Herzen und mit eurer ganzen Seele.

Only take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, to love Jehovah your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Und Josua segnete sie und entließ sie; und sie zogen nach ihren Zelten.

So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away; and they went unto their tents.

Und der einen Hälfte des Stammes Manasse hatte Mose in Basan ein Erbteil gegeben; aber seiner anderen Hälfte hatte Josua mit ihren Brüdern diesseit des Jordan, gegen Westen, ihr Erbteil gegeben. Und als Josua sie nach ihren Zelten entließ, da segnete er auch sie,

Now to the one half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given [inheritance] in Bashan; but unto the other half gave Joshua among their brethren beyond the Jordan westward; moreover when Joshua sent them away unto their tents, he blessed them,

und er sprach zu ihnen und sagte: Kehret nach euren Zelten zurück mit vielen Reichtümern und mit sehr vielem Vieh, mit Silber und mit Gold und mit Erz und mit Eisen und mit Kleidern in großer Menge; teilet die Beute eurer Feinde mit euren Brüdern.

and spake unto them, saying, Return with much wealth unto your tents, and with very much cattle, with silver, and with gold, and with brass, and with iron, and with very much raiment: divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.

So kehrten die Kinder Ruben und die Kinder Gad und der halbe Stamm Manasse zurück und zogen weg von den Kindern Israel, von Silo, das im Lande Kanaan ist, um in das Land Gilead zu ziehen, in das Land ihres Eigentums, in welchem sie sich ansässig gemacht hatten nach dem Befehle Jehovas durch Mose.

And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the land of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the commandment of Jehovah by Moses.

Und als sie in die Bezirke des Jordan kamen, die im Lande Kanaan sind, da bauten die Kinder Ruben und die Kinder Gad und der halbe Stamm Manasse daselbst einen Altar am Jordan, einen Altar, groß von Ansehen.

And when they came unto the region about the Jordan, that is in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, a great altar to look upon.

Und die Kinder Israel hörten sagen: Siehe, die Kinder Ruben und die Kinder Gad und der halbe Stamm Manasse haben einen Altar gebaut, angesichts des Landes Kanaan, in den Bezirken des Jordan, den Kindern Israel gegenüber.

And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar in the forefront of the land of Canaan, in the region about the Jordan, on the side that pertaineth to the children of Israel.

Und als die Kinder Israel es hörten, da versammelte sich die ganze Gemeinde der Kinder Israel nach Silo, um wider sie hinaufzuziehen zum Kriege.

And when the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up against them to war.

Und die Kinder Israel sandten zu den Kindern Ruben und zu den Kindern Gad und zu dem halben Stamme Manasse, in das Land Gilead, Pinehas, den Sohn Eleasars, des Priesters,

And the children of Israel sent unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,

und zehn Fürsten mit ihm, je einen Fürsten für ein Vaterhaus, von allen Stämmen Israels; und sie waren ein jeder das Haupt ihres Vaterhauses unter den Tausenden Israels.

and with him ten princes, one prince of a fathers` house for each of the tribes of Israel; and they were every one of them head of their fathers` houses among the thousands of Israel.

Und sie kamen zu den Kindern Ruben und zu den Kindern Gad und zu dem halben Stamme Manasse, in das Land Gilead, und redeten mit ihnen und sprachen:

And they came unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, unto the land of Gilead, and they spake with them, saying,

So spricht die ganze Gemeinde Jehovas: Was ist das für eine Treulosigkeit, die ihr gegen den Gott Israels begangen habt, daß ihr euch heute abwendet von der Nachfolge Jehovas, indem ihr euch einen Altar bauet, um euch heute wider Jehova zu empören?

Thus saith the whole congregation of Jehovah, What trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following Jehovah, in that ye have builded you an altar, to rebel this day against Jehovah?

Ist es uns zu wenig an der Ungerechtigkeit Peors, von welcher wir uns noch nicht gereinigt haben bis auf diesen Tag, und doch kam die Plage über die Gemeinde Jehovas?

Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves unto this day, although there came a plague upon the congregation of Jehovah,

Und ihr, ihr wendet euch heute ab von der Nachfolge Jehovas! Und es wird geschehen, empöret ihr euch heute wider Jehova, so wird er morgen über die ganze Gemeinde Israels erzürnen.

that ye must turn away this day from following Jehovah? and it will be, seeing ye rebel to-day against Jehovah, that to-morrow he will be wroth with the whole congregation of Israel.

Jedoch wenn das Land eures Eigentums unrein ist, so kommet herüber in das Land des Eigentums Jehovas, wo die Wohnung Jehovas weilt, und machet euch ansässig in unserer Mitte, aber empöret euch nicht wider Jehova, und empöret euch nicht wider uns, indem ihr euch einen Altar bauet außer dem Altar Jehovas, unseres Gottes.

Howbeit, if the land of your possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of Jehovah, wherein Jehovah`s tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among us: but rebel not against Jehovah, nor rebel against us, in building you an altar besides the altar of Jehovah our God.

Hat nicht Achan, der Sohn Serachs, Untreue an dem Verbannten begangen? und ein Zorn kam über die ganze Gemeinde Israels; und er kam nicht als ein Einzelner um in seiner Ungerechtigkeit.

Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.

Und die Kinder Ruben und die Kinder Gad und der halbe Stamm Manasse antworteten und sprachen zu den Häuptern der Tausende Israels:

Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh answered, and spake unto the heads of the thousands of Israel,

Der Gott der Götter, Jehova, der Gott der Götter, Jehova, er weiß es, und Israel soll es wissen: wenn es aus Empörung, und wenn es aus Treulosigkeit gegen Jehova geschehen ist, - so mögest du uns nicht retten an diesem Tage! -

The Mighty One, God, Jehovah, the Mighty One, God, Jehovah, he knoweth; and Israel he shall know: if it be in rebellion, or if in trespass against Jehovah (save thou us not this day,)

daß wir uns einen Altar gebaut haben, um uns von der Nachfolge Jehovas abzuwenden, und wenn es geschehen ist, um Brandopfer und Speisopfer darauf zu opfern, und wenn, um Friedensopfer darauf zu opfern, so möge Jehova es fordern!

that we have built us an altar to turn away from following Jehovah; or if to offer thereon burnt-offering or meal-offering, or if to offer sacrifices of peace-offerings thereon, let Jehovah himself require it;

Und wenn wir nicht aus Besorgnis vor einer Sache dies getan haben, indem wir sprachen: Künftig werden eure Kinder zu unseren Kindern sprechen und sagen: Was habt ihr mit Jehova, dem Gott Israels, gemein?

and if we have not [rather] out of carefulness done this, [and] of purpose, saying, In time to come your children might speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with Jehovah, the God of Israel?

Jehova hat ja eine Grenze, den Jordan, zwischen uns und euch gesetzt, ihr Kinder Ruben und ihr Kinder Gad; ihr habt kein Teil an Jehova! Und so würden eure Kinder machen, daß unsere Kinder aufhörten, Jehova zu fürchten.

for Jehovah hath made the Jordan a border between us and you, ye children of Reuben and children of Gad; ye have no portion in Jehovah: so might your children make our children cease from fearing Jehovah.

Und so sprachen wir: Wir wollen uns doch daran machen, den Altar zu bauen, nicht für Brandopfer und nicht für Schlachtopfer;

Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrifice:

sondern ein Zeuge soll er sein zwischen uns und euch und zwischen unseren Geschlechtern nach uns, damit wir den Dienst Jehovas vor ihm verrichten mit unseren Brandopfern und mit unseren Schlachtopfern und mit unseren Friedensopfern, und damit nicht eure Kinder künftig zu unseren Kindern sagen: Ihr habt kein Teil an Jehova!

but it shall be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we may do the service of Jehovah before him with our burnt-offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace-offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no portion in Jehovah.

Und wir sprachen: Geschieht es, daß sie künftig zu uns oder zu unseren Geschlechtern also sprechen, so werden wir sagen: Sehet das Abbild des Altars Jehovas, welches unsere Väter gemacht haben, nicht für Brandopfer und nicht für Schlachtopfer; sondern ein Zeuge sollte er sein zwischen uns und euch!

Therefore said we, It shall be, when they so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we shall say, Behold the pattern of the altar of Jehovah, which our fathers made, not for burnt-offering, nor for sacrifice; but it is a witness between us and you.

Fern sei es von uns, daß wir uns wider Jehova empören und uns heute von der Nachfolge Jehovas abwenden, indem wir einen Altar bauen für Brandopfer, für Speisopfer und für Schlachtopfer, außer dem Altar Jehovas, unseres Gottes, der vor seiner Wohnung ist!

Far be it from us that we should rebel against Jehovah, and turn away this day from following Jehovah, to build an altar for burnt-offering, for meal-offering, or for sacrifice, besides the altar of Jehovah our God that is before his tabernacle.

Und als Pinehas, der Priester, und die Fürsten der Gemeinde und die Häupter der Tausende Israels, die mit ihm waren, die Worte hörten, welche die Kinder Ruben und die Kinder Gad und die Kinder Manasse redeten, war es gut in ihren Augen.

And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation, even the heads of the thousands of Israel that were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spake, it pleased them well.

Und Pinehas, der Sohn Eleasars, des Priesters, sprach zu den Kindern Ruben und zu den Kindern Gad und zu den Kindern Manasse: Heute erkennen wir, daß Jehova in unserer Mitte ist, weil ihr diese Treulosigkeit nicht gegen Jehova begangen habt. Nunmehr habt ihr die Kinder Israel von der Hand Jehovas errettet.

And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, This day we know that Jehovah is in the midst of us, because ye have not committed this trespass against Jehovah: now have ye delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of Jehovah.

Und Pinehas, der Sohn Eleasars, des Priesters, und die Fürsten kehrten zurück von den Kindern Ruben und von den Kindern Gad, aus dem Lande Gilead in das Land Kanaan, zu den Kindern Israel und brachten ihnen Antwort.

And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again.

Und die Sache war gut in den Augen der Kinder Israel; und die Kinder Israel priesen Gott und sprachen nicht mehr davon, wider sie hinaufzuziehen zum Kriege, um das Land zu verderben, in welchem die Kinder Ruben und die Kinder Gad wohnten.

And the thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and spake no more of going up against them to war, to destroy the land wherein the children of Reuben and the children of Gad dwelt.

Und die Kinder Ruben und die Kinder Gad nannten den Altar Zeuge: denn er ist ein Zeuge zwischen uns, daß Jehova Gott ist.

And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar [Ed]: For, [said they], it is a witness between us that Jehovah is God.

Kapitel 23

Und es geschah nach vielen Tagen, nachdem Jehova Israel Ruhe geschafft hatte vor allen seinen Feinden ringsum, als Josua alt geworden war, wohlbetagt,

And it came to pass after many days, when Jehovah had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua was old and well stricken in years;

da berief Josua ganz Israel: seine Ältesten und seine Häupter und seine Richter und seine Vorsteher, und sprach zu ihnen: Ich bin alt geworden, wohlbetagt;

that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old and well stricken in years:

und ihr, ihr habt alles gesehen, was Jehova, euer Gott, allen diesen Nationen euretwegen getan hat. Denn Jehova, euer Gott, er ist es, der für euch gestritten hat.

and ye have seen all that Jehovah your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for Jehovah your God, he it is that hath fought for you.

Sehet, ich habe euch diese übrigen Nationen durchs Los als Erbteil zufallen lassen, nach euren Stämmen, vom Jordan an (sowie alle Nationen, die ich ausgerottet habe) bis an das große Meer gegen Sonnenuntergang.

Behold, I have allotted unto you these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun.

Und Jehova, euer Gott, er selbst wird sie vor euch ausstoßen und sie vor euch austreiben; und ihr werdet ihr Land in Besitz nehmen, so wie Jehova, euer Gott, zu euch geredet hat.

And Jehovah your God, he will thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as Jehovah your God spake unto you.

So haltet denn sehr fest daran, alles zu beobachten und zu tun, was in dem Buche des Gesetzes Moses geschrieben ist, daß ihr nicht davon abweichet zur Rechten noch zur Linken,

Therefore be ye very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left;

daß ihr nicht unter diese Nationen kommet, diese, die bei euch übriggeblieben sind, und den Namen ihrer Götter nicht erwähnet und nicht jemand bei ihm beschwöret, und ihnen nicht dienet und euch nicht vor ihnen niederwerfet!

that ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear [by them], neither serve them, nor bow down yourselves unto them;

sondern Jehova, eurem Gott, sollt ihr anhangen, so wie ihr getan habt bis auf diesen Tag.

but cleave unto Jehovah your God, as ye have done unto this day.

Und Jehova hat große und starke Nationen vor euch ausgetrieben; und ihr - niemand hat vor euch standgehalten bis auf diesen Tag:

For Jehovah hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath stood before you unto this day.

Ein Mann von euch jagt tausend; denn Jehova, euer Gott, er ist es, der für euch streitet, so wie er zu euch geredet hat.

One man of you shall chase a thousand; for Jehovah your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he spake unto you.

So habet wohl acht auf eure Seelen, daß ihr Jehova, euren Gott, liebet!

Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love Jehovah your God.

Denn wenn ihr euch irgend abwendet und euch an den Rest dieser Nationen hänget, dieser, die bei euch übriggeblieben sind, und ihr euch mit ihnen verschwägert und unter sie kommet, und sie unter euch:

Else if ye do at all go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you;

so wisset bestimmt, daß Jehova, euer Gott, nicht fortfahren wird, diese Nationen vor euch auszutreiben; und sie werden euch zur Schlinge werden und zum Fallstrick, und zur Geißel in euren Seiten und zu Dornen in euren Augen, bis ihr umkommet aus diesem guten Lande, das Jehova, euer Gott, euch gegeben hat.

know for a certainty that Jehovah your God will no more drive these nations from out of your sight; but they shall be a snare and a trap unto you, and a scourge in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which Jehovah your God hath given you.

Und siehe, ich gehe heute den Weg der ganzen Erde; und ihr wisset mit eurem ganzen Herzen und mit eurer ganzen Seele, daß nicht ein Wort dahingefallen ist von all den guten Worten, die Jehova, euer Gott, über euch geredet hat: sie sind euch alle eingetroffen, nicht ein Wort davon ist dahingefallen.

And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which Jehovah your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, not one thing hath failed thereof.

Aber es wird geschehen, so wie jedes gute Wort über euch gekommen ist, das Jehova, euer Gott, zu euch geredet hat, also wird Jehova jedes böse Wort über euch kommen lassen, bis er euch aus diesem guten Lande vertilgt hat, das Jehova, euer Gott, euch gegeben hat.

And it shall come to pass, that as all the good things are come upon you of which Jehovah your God spake unto you, so will Jehovah bring upon you all the evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which Jehovah your God hath given you.

Wenn ihr den Bund Jehovas, eures Gottes, den er euch geboten hat, übertretet, und hingehet und anderen Göttern dienet und euch vor ihnen niederwerfet, so wird der Zorn Jehovas gegen euch entbrennen, und ihr werdet schnell umkommen aus dem guten Lande, das er euch gegeben hat.

When ye transgress the covenant of Jehovah your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them; then will the anger of Jehovah be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.

Kapitel 24

Und Josua versammelte alle Stämme Israels nach Sichem, und er berief die Ältesten von Israel und seine Häupter und seine Richter und seine Vorsteher; und sie stellten sich vor Gott.

And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

Und Josua sprach zu dem ganzen Volke: So spricht Jehova, der Gott Israels: Eure Väter wohnten vor alters jenseit des Stromes, Tarah, der Vater Abrahams und der Vater Nahors, und sie dienten anderen Göttern.

And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt of old time beyond the River, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nahor: and they served other gods.

Und ich nahm Abraham, euren Vater, von jenseit des Stromes und ließ ihn durch das ganze Land Kanaan wandern, und ich mehrte seinen Samen und gab ihm Isaak.

And I took your father Abraham from beyond the River, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.

Und dem Isaak gab ich Jakob und Esau; und dem Esau gab ich das Gebirge Seir, es zu besitzen; und Jakob und seine Söhne zogen nach Ägypten hinab.

And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it: and Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

Und ich sandte Mose und Aaron und schlug Ägypten, so wie ich in seiner Mitte getan habe; und danach führte ich euch heraus.

And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did in the midst thereof: and afterward I brought you out.

Und ich führte eure Väter aus Ägypten hinweg, und ihr kamet an das Meer; und die Ägypter jagten euren Vätern nach mit Wagen und mit Reitern bis an das Schilfmeer.

And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and with horsemen unto the Red Sea.

Da schrieen sie zu Jehova, und er setzte Finsternis zwischen euch und die Ägypter und führte das Meer über sie und bedeckte sie; und eure Augen haben gesehen, was ich an den Ägyptern getan habe. Und ihr wohntet in der Wüste eine lange Zeit.

And when they cried out unto Jehovah, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes saw what I did in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness many days.

Und ich brachte euch in das Land der Amoriter, die jenseit des Jordan wohnten, und sie stritten wider euch; und ich gab sie in eure Hand, und ihr nahmet ihr Land in Besitz, und ich vertilgte sie vor euch.

And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, that dwelt beyond the Jordan: and they fought with you; and I gave them into your hand, and ye possessed their land; and I destroyed them from before you.

Da stand Balak auf, der Sohn Zippors, der König von Moab, und stritt wider Israel; und er sandte hin und ließ Bileam, den Sohn Beors, rufen, um euch zu verfluchen.

Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and fought against Israel: and he sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you;

Aber ich wollte nicht auf Bileam hören, und er segnete euch vielmehr; und ich errettete euch aus seiner Hand.

but I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.

Und ihr zoget über den Jordan und kamet nach Jericho; und die Bürger von Jericho und die Amoriter und die Perisiter und die Kanaaniter und die Hethiter und die Girgasiter und die Hewiter und die Jebusiter stritten wider euch, und ich gab sie in eure Hand.

And ye went over the Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I delivered them into your hand.

Und ich sandte die Hornissen vor euch her, und sie vertrieben sie vor euch, die beiden Könige der Amoriter; nicht mit deinem Schwert und nicht mit deinem Bogen.

And I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.

Und ich habe euch ein Land gegeben, um das du dich nicht gemüht, und Städte, die ihr nicht gebaut habt, und ihr wohnet darin; von Weinbergen und Olivenbäumen, die ihr nicht gepflanzt habt, esset ihr. -

And I gave you a land whereon thou hadst not labored, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell therein; of vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

Und nun fürchet Jehova und dienet ihm in Vollkommenheit und in Wahrheit; und tut die Götter hinweg, welchen eure Väter jenseit des Stromes und in Ägypten gedient haben, und dienet Jehova.

Now therefore fear Jehovah, and serve him in sincerity and in truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt; and serve ye Jehovah.

Und wenn es übel ist in euren Augen, Jehova zu dienen, so erwählet euch heute, wem ihr dienen wollt, ob den Göttern, welchen eure Väter gedient haben, die jenseit des Stromes wohnten, oder den Göttern der Amoriter, in deren Land ihr wohnet. Ich aber und mein Haus, wir wollen Jehova dienen!

And if it seem evil unto you to serve Jehovah, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.

Und das Volk antwortete und sprach: Fern sei es von uns, Jehova zu verlassen, um anderen Göttern zu dienen!

And the people answered and said, Far be it from us that we should forsake Jehovah, to serve other gods;

Denn Jehova, unser Gott, ist es, der uns und unsere Väter aus dem Lande Ägypten, aus dem Hause der Knechtschaft, heraufgeführt hat, und der vor unseren Augen diese großen Zeichen getan und uns behütet hat auf dem ganzen Wege, auf dem wir gegangen, und unter all den Völkern, durch deren Mitte wir gezogen sind.

for Jehovah our God, he it is that brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and that did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the peoples through the midst of whom we passed;

Und Jehova hat alle Völker und die Amoriter, die Bewohner des Landes, vor uns vertrieben. Auch wir wollen Jehova dienen, denn er ist unser Gott!

and Jehovah drove out from before us all the peoples, even the Amorites that dwelt in the land: therefore we also will serve Jehovah; for he is our God.

Und Josua sprach zu dem Volke: Ihr könnet Jehova nicht dienen; denn er ist ein heiliger Gott, er ist ein eifernder Gott; er wird eure Übertretung und eure Sünden nicht vergeben.

And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve Jehovah; for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgression nor your sins.

Wenn ihr Jehova verlasset und fremden Göttern dienet, so wird er sich wenden und euch Übles tun und euch vernichten, nachdem er euch Gutes getan hat.

If ye forsake Jehovah, and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you evil, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.

Und das Volk sprach zu Josua: Nein, sondern Jehova wollen wir dienen!

And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve Jehovah.

Da sprach Josua zu dem Volke: Ihr seid Zeugen gegen euch, daß ihr selbst euch Jehova erwählt habt, um ihm zu dienen. Und sie sprachen: Wir sind Zeugen!

And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you Jehovah, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.

So tut nun die fremden Götter hinweg, die in eurer Mitte sind, und neiget euer Herz zu Jehova, dem Gott Israels.

Now therefore put away, [said he], the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto Jehovah, the God of Israel.

Und das Volk sprach zu Josua: Jehova, unserem Gott, wollen wir dienen und auf seine Stimme hören!

And the people said unto Joshua, Jehovah our God will we serve, and unto his voice will we hearken.

Und Josua machte einen Bund mit dem Volke an selbigem Tage und stellte ihm Satzung und Recht zu Sichem.

So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.

Und Josua schrieb diese Worte in das Buch des Gesetzes Gottes; und er nahm einen großen Stein und richtete ihn daselbst auf unter der Terebinthe, die bei dem Heiligtum Jehovas steht.

And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God; and he took a great stone, and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Jehovah.

Und Josua sprach zu dem ganzen Volke: Siehe, dieser Stein soll Zeuge gegen uns sein; denn er hat alle Worte Jehovas gehört, die er mit uns geredet hat; und er soll Zeuge gegen euch sein, damit ihr euren Gott nicht verleugnet.

And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness against us; for it hath heard all the words of Jehovah which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness against you, lest ye deny your God.

Und Josua entließ das Volk, einen jeden in sein Erbteil.

So Joshua sent the people away, every man unto his inheritance.

Und es geschah nach diesen Dingen, da starb Josua, der Sohn Nuns, der Knecht Jehovas, hundertzehn Jahre alt;

And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Jehovah, died, being a hundred and ten years old.

und man begrub ihn im Gebiete seines Erbteils zu Timnath-Serach auf dem Gebirge Ephraim, nördlich vom Berge Gaasch.

And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.

Und Israel diente Jehova alle Tage Josuas und alle Tage der Ältesten, welche ihre Tage nach Josua verlängerten, und die das ganze Werk Jehovas kannten, das er für Israel getan hatte.

And Israel served Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, and had known all the work of Jehovah, that he had wrought for Israel.

Und die Gebeine Josephs, welche die Kinder Israel aus Ägypten heraufgebracht hatten, begruben sie zu Sichem auf dem Stück Feld, welches Jakob von den Söhnen Hemors, des Vaters Sichems, gekauft hatte um hundert Kesita; und sie wurden den Kindern Joseph zum Erbteil.

And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in the parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for a hundred pieces of money: and they became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.

Und Eleasar, der Sohn Aarons, starb; und sie begruben ihn auf dem Hügel seines Sohnes Pinehas, der ihm gegeben worden war auf dem Gebirge Ephraim.

And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given him in the hill-country of Ephraim.
