Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nigh unto Jerusalem, a Sabbath day`s journey off.

And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, and said (and there was a multitude of persons [gathered] together, about a hundred and twenty),

The Pentecost opening at vv.1-4 integrates the Sinai-theophany imagery (Ex 19:16-19 thunder + cloud + shofar + fire) with the Num 11:24-30 Mosaic-spirit-distribution pattern. Pentecost (Greek pentēkostē) is the Greek name for the Jewish festival of Shavuot, the 50th day from Passover-Sabbath. In late-Second-Temple Judaism, Shavuot was associated both with the wheat-harvest first-fruits and with the Sinai-theophany / Torah-giving (rabbinic zĕman mattan tôrāṯēnū identification at Mekhilta Yitro 9; Jub 6:17-22). The Lukan choice of Pentecost as the spirit-outpouring timing is theologically-loaded: the event is framed as a Sinai-typological renewal. See central-glossary entry
